The staff in this location are all awful and rude. One of the workers was harassing my friend being disgustingly rude toward her for HER bumping into my friend. I think this place is fantastic! The ladies are super sweet, good prices, very organized and a good selection! I have been able to buy things with tags still on them. The reason for a 4 and not a 5? I went shopping a few times and was going through the white tops, looked down and my hands were covered in black dust and then noticed that it was also on some of the tops once looked closer. Realized that it was the bar the hangers were on. Ruh roh raggy !! It had a black/gray dusty film on it and every time you moved a hanger it got on your hands.( not a good look ) I told them during check out but went back another day and had the same thing happen so other than the cleanliness of the racks, it is a great little place so I cant complain. So this place is big, well organized, and has a lot of variety. Great for both men and women. I wasn't really in the mood to shop, but I found a purple cashmere Vincent Alfaro sweater in great condition for $18, normally $55-$60 retail. I thought it was a good deal for cashmere. It's not the same as shopping at Goodwill re: prices, yet I think thrifters will enjoy this place. It's also across the street from an Out of the Closet, so you can do two stops on one block! I came here just the other day with a couple of my gal pals and we had a blast rummaging through the back room where all the 2nd hand stuff were. We found cool cocktail dresses for $8, purses for $5, and cute tops for $5. Of course finding and buying are two different things, but it sure was exciting looking through all the racks. Everything was neatly organized and the prices are clearly labeled on the tag. They also stamp each item with the date in which they received them. Oh yah, for some reason a lot of people sell their barely used Converse Chucks here so if you don't want to pay $40 for a brand new pair, stop by American Vintage for some gently worn Chucks for $13!!! They have a variety of colors and sizes for you to choose from. Awesome!!!!! The staff was friendly and asked us a couple of times if we needed help. I liked that they took notice of us, but didn't harass or stalk us throughout the huge store. I didn't find any street parking so I just left my car in the big Walgreens lot and hoped no one would tow my car. No one did. Score! read more

One of my favorite Thrift Stores in Echo Park. For one main reason, they have the hugest selection in old school high wasted shorts. I love the selection and sizes they have. They also have a massive amount of Levis shirts, I personally don't like but if your a jean skirt jean this is your place, promise. Also, men's shoes. I've seen a few nice Nike's here. Of course NONE fit the the boyfriend, but they were in good condition and around $10-15 dollars! Super score. This place is pretty big and has a extended room. I have to agree with Stephanie T. about the price for what is pretty much either torn or stained. I found a couple of cute vintage poly dresses that had either stains or were torn and they seriously were asking over $24 to $26 for this crap. I mean that's just lame... BUT.... I will say that I did find some cool pieces here. $59 and some change latter I came home with two AMAZING DRESSES and a ring. The selection here is decent. Tons of boots which I almost only always wear and they also had tons of boots for the men too. Very mod.. Beatles style boots as well as amazing vintage cowboy boots too. Any-hoot.. I loved the vintage jackets and the sweaters selection. Prices are ridiculous. Seriously, I find better stuff for less at Jet Rag and I don't mean the dollar pile sale that Jet Rag has every Sunday. Inside Jet Rag I always find good stuff for less than $20... Aside of that the place was clean... Pretty well organized.. The front of the store has the vintage and the rear.. way in the back in almost another room offers more of a selection that is more Goodwill like.... So, yeah... I dig this store. I just think that they should not be so overpriced. Especially on the items that are damaged. This isn't a place for fashion shopping - you come here for costume parties or if you're patient, that gem buried at the bottom of a pile. ...Or for fly fitted vintage ski jackets. If you're into thrift/vintage stores, this one is a good one to check out. Everything is surprisingly well organized, which makes it easier to find what you want. the only thing that sets it apart from any other thrift store, is that it has a better selection of awesome, funky cowboy boots than any thrift store I've seen in Texas. BUT the prices are way way too high for a thrift store. There were a few things I almost grabbed before realizing that I wouldn't even buy it new at the price it was marked. read more

I would give it less than 1 star if I could. The site does not note the hours, but does have a picture of the hours of operation (supposedly) from their front door. "10am to 8pm" all 7 days of the week. We fought traffic to get there before 8pm. We arrived at 7pm only to find the doors locked and the sign missing from the door. After leaving Out of the Closet across the street emptied handed and being treated rudely by the guy who was working on the window display, I was shocked to see American Vintage across the street. I was on a scavenger hunt to find pieces for my Hulk Hogan costume I am going to wear for 80s Themed Race. Right off the bat, I see wigs, which is one of the piece to my costume, and I thought to myself "this place is it!" Well I celebrated a little too early because I didn't find the wig I wanted which is a blonde straight haired mullet. Yeah it's very specific. I did a run through of the place and I was surprised how large the place is. After a several minutes I could tell I wasn't going to find anything till I found this little niche in the corner off to the side of the cashier that had some more wigs but no mullets and it was looking like a losing effort till BOOM! I spot a red boa just like what Hogan used to wear. Would I be back? Yes , There was so much stuff here that I actually was interested in but not there to get at the time. If I were to go here with out any intentions I probably could have spent a significant amount of time here. read more

The one thing that set this place apart from any other vintage store in Los Angeles, was the selection of vintage roller skates in the front. Other than that, it's your average vintage store in LA: neat, but over-priced items and everything smells pretty musty. I came here with the intention of purchasing a vintage sequin blouse/top. Yknow, the kind ol' ladies wear when gambling in Las Vegas. Well, I had no such luck here. SADZ. However, they did have a fairly good selection of sequin tops. But, unfortunatley, fate did not have me buy one. This store is freakin HUGE! There's a large selection of vintage shoes, heels, wedges and sneakers. Good selection of dresses. The prices seemed a little higher than the Fullerton location though. More than half of the store, I felt, was stocked more with men's clothing. The back part of the store is where the owners have "newer" stuff. I didnt find shit here. Today we checked out the one on Sunset/Echo Park and I was surprised by the huge range. I like vintage stores that organize their clothing by colors, and this store is very well-organized. Kinda pricey but large selection of shoes, clothes, accessories for men and for women. The pricing seems to be all over the place, depending on the item. I couldn't find a lot of smaller dress sizes, but I do like how they organized everything by color and somewhat by size. They do have a really pretty collection of cardigans with fur collars that I totally covet. This might be the kind of place you really need to set aside an hour or two and comb through each rack carefully to find that hidden gem. read more

Love this place for my costume / theme party needs. I like shopping around here for Halloween. There's tons of stuff and the front of the store is organized to help you locate certain pieces (belts on one rack, ties on another, Hawaiian shirts on one, school girl skirts on another). There's even racks for unusual items like kimonos, marching band pieces (including hats!), mechanic and flight suits and more. They even try to group the cowboy boots by size on top of different racks. I went here yesterday to find suspenders for my Cheech outfit and scored on a nice set of red ones for around $6. If you have a good reason, you can talk down the price for some items (e.g. During a previous Halloween shopping trip, I found a full adult size yellow puffy jacket for $7 and also a child's size yellow puffy vest for the same price. I was able to get the vest for $5 instead). So not the best place if you want to find clothes that you'll wear on a daily basis, but great if you like the thrill looking through mountains of stuff to find that needle in the haystack clothing piece. read more

Large store. So large it's a bit overwhelming. Walk-in and you think you've found a treasure trove Only to quickly be disappointed by sifting your fingers through mounds and mounds of trash with potential that you might have found at Goodwill for a third of the price. Still, it is easy to spend a good one to two hours exploring the racks. Wide selection of Male items. Small dressing rooms. Many "in-fashion" items are overpriced, for example a cheap 1970s polka dot black and white dress (torn and ripped, old and flimsy) was $22; that's how much you would pay for a new dress at Forever 21 no? But then a pair of Levi cut off short, high waisted and fitted were only $8! So like at any thrift store, you just have to be thrifty about your shopping and you should be able to get some good treasures at American Vintage! The customer service was good, though just one employee for such a large store was not enough, which explains why the dressing rooms were unattended the whole time! She was very friendly though and helpful with my purchases. There is a room in the back filled with more items. I checked it out thinking that maybe it was going to be super cheap clothes, or specialty items but no, nothing special, same stuff as the rest of the store, and same prices. I'd even say the stuff in the back-room is more practical than cool/hip. So if you need a pair of work pants vs. a pair of "vintage" pants, you might have better luck in the back room. Location is great. Plenty of meter parking around the neighborhood and free parking on the side streets (though watch signs for street cleaning days)! read more

As any shop-a-holic vintage lover would do, I used to come here on weekends when I was bored. I could literally spend hours in here sifting through their racks of clothing. They have everything from costumey dresses to cowboy boots and puffy 80's down filled vests. They even have a pretty good selection of bathroom stuff (like rugs & towels) I can't say I've come out with tons of stuff, but I did buy a cute top and new bathroom rug. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area, but don't expect amazing treasures. read more

When I first went to this shop, I was enthused! Everything so micro-organized and easy to find by type/color/etc! Soon after, I realized that there was very little to lust after there. For a few folks there are perhaps some scores (decent amount of military clothes, cowboy boots, and such), but the finely-organized racks are largely full of cruddy stuff of poor quality, and the prices aren't really shrunk to fit. The folks that work there are nice, though, and I'm sure they have their good weeks. read more

I am VERY disappointed in my experience at American Vintage in Echo Park tonight. I called them at 6:14 tonight on my way home from work to find out what time they close and was told 7:00. I told the woman I was looking for something that I had seen in her store a couple of weeks prior and that I was on my way and would be there before 7:00. I arrived in front of the store at 6:47 to find the doors locked and two women counting money at the register. I banged on the glass, indicated that I had called ahead and still had time before 7:00. One of the women came to the door and told me they were closed. "I called ahead! You told me you close at 7:00!" I said. "Oh, well we leave at 7:00 but we close before that," I was told. After several minutes of conversation I asked for the name and number of their supervisor which I was flat out refused. "I'm not leaving until I get the name of your supervisor," I said. Finally, at 5 minutes to 7, she allowed me in to look at what I had come for-- while I looked , she and the other woman glared at me. I left the store, frustrated and angry at the whole situation. If your store hours indicate that you close at 7:00, you need to stay open until then. ESPECIALLY if you know someone is booking it from one end of town to the other to make it in time. This is not the first time I have tried to make it to the store before 7:00 only to have it locked and everyone gone or counting money. I have shopped at this store for almost 8 years now and have bought countless outfits here. I brought people into the store from out of town and I have recommended the store to people who are looking for something specific. That will all stop now. read more

Huge store with all the clothing you can think of. There wasnt many dressy or formal options but they had some and in a variety of sizes. Seriously this place has pretty much any piece you can think of. Most of it is modern or contemporary. The prices are super reasonable, usually between $10-20 unless you get a jacket, shoes, or coat. read more

This store is huge. Everything is really organized for vintage thrifty kinda shop. I wandered in here for a jacket. Drifted in here while hopped up on ice cream from across the street. I love boots and was therefore enthralled with their selection of boots. I thought that overall the prices were "a-okay"... I got a pair of chucks for $12 which is pretty good. I'd definitely go back...
