This 99 Ranch location is newer and cleaner than the one in Kent, WA. Staff were friendlier most likely because it was midday and during the week. I'm sure if it was after work or the weekend the store would have been crowded just like the HMart off Lakeline Blvd. Merch was reasonably priced. Sales tax in TX is less than WA. They also had a separate store around the corner for alcohol. With the high cost of living on the West Coast I'm sure people will continue to move to Texas. They'll find communities or create communities similar to what they've experienced prior to moving to the Lone Star State.

Even though it's a small shop, it's packed with fun and unique Japanese snacks, drinks, and specialty items that are hard to find elsewhere. I picked up a Mochi white peach sparkling yuzu soda along with an adorable peach flavored ice cream that was molded into the shape of an actual peach. Both were delicious! The soda had a light, refreshing peach flavor that wasn't overly sweet, and the sorbet was creamy, fruity, and just as cute as it was tasty. Checkout was quick and efficient. If you enjoy browsing for unique Japanese treats or want to try something different, this is definitely worth a visit. It's a fun little stop when you're exploring downtown Austin, and I'll be back to see what other seasonal goodies I can discover.

The guy with the awesome silver hair mentioned he was also from Houston, and we somehow ended up talking about how Austin's Asian scene just can't compare to how insanely diverse Houston's is.
