Quiet and good. Don't expect frills but you'll be satisfied. Parking is great. Service decent.

Asahi is a pretty solid spot, was always my go to local sushi. However, as of late I feel as if they are slipping a little. I think their nigiri is always pretty darn good. Recommend the Blue fin nigiri, hamachi nigiri, and ocean drive roll

Ira Shai Ma-Sei! Asahi is a great Japanese restaurant located in the Palatine area. We ordered: Chicken katsu -- Breaded chicken breast, deep fried and served with tonkatsu sauce. Really good portions Rainbow roll -- California, 5 pieces of fresh fish, which looked to be salmon, tuna, white tuna, shrimp, and yellow tail Spider roll -- Whole soft shell crab, cucumber, avocado, sweet sauce. These always come out thicker, and it was delicious! They also have bento boxes to check out, which was a hard choice to not get. Service was great! Dining area is somewhat tiny... a few booths, a couple of tables, and few seats at the sushi bar, by the chefs. Overall, great food and experience!

Sashimi -chef's choice.

Great local spot where the chef and his wife are there making sure you have a nice experience. The menu is comprehensive with lots of fresh sushi. It's clean and open.

As an unplanned stop for sushi, this place was great! The service was quick, the staff accommodating and the Courtney roll was delicious. We had veggie tempura and edamame as apps before sushi and everything came out quickly and fresh. Service was spot on! Truly a hidden gem!

Amazing food. This restaurant has the HIGHEST quality salmon (sake) in the Chicagoland area. The portions are generous, and the freshness is unmatched. Service is quick! Ambiance is what you'd expect for a small sushi restaurant. 11/10, I'd highly recommend the Sake Don!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]What an amazing date night spot![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Though a little deceiving at first, this hole in the wall will surprise you with its amazing food and inviting ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The chef took our orders, answered our questions, and the food was great. Definitely recommend for a fun or quick sushi date.

The sushi and sashimi here are phenomenal! The fishes are fresh, the cut is large and the marbling is beautiful. Compared to the other restaurants I've been to, they have the best raw fish by far. My favorites are the salmon and yellow tail. The pricing is also competitive, especially for the quality of fish you are getting. The sushi rolls are pretty good, too. Some of my favorites include: -Mongolian roll -Red dragon roll -C.S.T.-Spicy tuna roll, topped with tempura crumbs and spicy mayo. -Spider Roll-Soft shell crab As for the appetizer, the Golden Shrimp is rich and creamy. The service is great! The wait staff is very attentive and the sushi chef is friendly. ....| \ _ , , , - - , , _ , .../ , ` . - ' ` ' . _ \ - ; ; ; , _ ..| , a - ) ) _ . ; . We've only tried Chicago Ramen, Palatine location this one time. It was a bit of a weird…read moreexperience. The restaurant was empty when we arrived, a few tables arrived after we were there. I believe we ate lunch on a weekday. The service was ok, a few of the items we wanted to order were not available. Their sushi chef was not there that day, so no sushi was available to order, along with one or two other entrees we wanted to order. The food was average, nothing that stood out as great or exceptionally bad. The one thing I remembered thinking positively was the curry chicken rice plate. The curry sauce was good. The chicken wasn't the traditional breaded chicken cutlet, rather pieces of chicken karage, which was good. I don't know if it would be fair to say we'd never go back to try again, but we do have places we really like near by, so it isn't likely we're going back anytime soon.

Service was atrocious. There's one small woman running the entire FoH and she's claiming she just started today can't run the PoS system. They don't have free refills on tea. Ordering experience was horrible at best. Lady. It's like an iPhone just type what I asked for in it. I shouldn't have to point at it in the menu. If you can't understand English that well then you don't need to be working in a hospitality field, go find another job as an ESL learner. The restaurant floor isn't a place for unskilled people. She had to multiple times to back to the kitchen to ask some man about things. Everything here is stupidly expensive. Drinks are overpriced. A bowl of soup that I can get for $8.99 at the local Asian marts food court costs near $20 This is just another hack chain restaurant trying to bilk money. Don't open your damned restaurant if you don't have tofu. Thats basic Asian. Don't bother opening if you don't have your flagship soup or sushi and just have crap available. I finally got fed up after ordering sushi getting told that out of stock and then ordering fried tofu which is in the damn supermarket across the street. That too out of stock. Incompetent management. Incompetent employees. How the hell does this dump have over 15 locations. Must be a dark money laundering network for p3d0ph1l3s Also. Major red flag when you display a MASSIVE case of alcohol in the front unsecured foyer. I could have easily smashed and grabbed hundreds of dollars in liquors and easily dashed in a getaway car. This isn't an eating restaurant. It's a place for hacks to get drunk. It's open late for the exact reason of it being a dive bar playing off as a restaurant. It's not a restaurant. RESTAURANTS HAVE FKN FOOD IN STOCK. BARS DONT HAVE FOOD IN STOCK

There's a kind of "night out" vibe here, even if you're just grabbing dinner on a random weeknight. The menu is creative, with specialty rolls and fusion-style dishes that feel a little more elevated than your standard lineup. When it's on, it's really on. Service is iffy to be honest. Staff is attentive and knowledgeable, and the whole experience feels polished. Drinks are well-crafted, and the patio (when open) adds a whole extra layer to the experience. That said, this is where the missing fifth star lives. Shakou can be a little inconsistent. Some visits feel like a five-star experience, others land closer to "really good, but not unforgettable." A few dishes might lean a bit too sweet or not quite balance the flavors, and during busier times, things can feel a little rushed or loud. But even with that, it's still an easy recommendation. This is a great spot when you want sushi that feels a little more upscale without going full fine dining. It's stylish, flavorful, and usually delivers a really solid experience. Four stars, comfortably... with just enough flashes of brilliance to make you keep coming back!

We had to stand in the lobby for 5 minutes without much information, while other groups who came in without a reservation after us were seated before us. Furthermore, the reservation was for the "Patio" and while technically we were seated on the "Patio", I would say it was the bottom rung of the patio. Sat at the first table outside the restaurant, underneath the awning with a bird's nest overhead chirping the entire time. Essentially in my opinion, when you make a reservation somewhere, you don't really expect to be seated in probably the worst location they have to offer. Food was pretty decent. We had two bowls basically. Both were okay, like any Sushi style restaurant, prices were a bit high, especially considering their location in the heart of the AH downtown. I would come again, but for a first try it wasn't anything special for sure.

The food is consistently delicious, the service wonderful, and it always makes me feel special when Terry greets me at the restaurant! We're a bibimbap family--chicken and pork, respectfully. Sometimes in a hot stone bowl, sometimes not. The buns, japchae, and assorted bonchon are all delicious, too. I prefer the aioli sauce over the traditional sauce on my bibimbap. I still remember how during COVID Terry had the ability to donate meals to thank the frontline workers. Also, one time, something was missing from my delivery order and Terry himself drove it to my house to apologize! Those are the offerings and moments that make a giant difference. Overall, I am always happy with the food, service, and love supporting a small, local business!
