A solid Japanese place in Palatine. We ordered the seaweed salad and agedashi tofu to start - both were amazing and the seaweed salad portion size was perfect for sharing. Their sashimi could've been cut better, but still tasted awesome. Loved our maki as well! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall great experience, a tiny cute spot great for walk-ins and a solid meal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Quiet and good. Don't expect frills but you'll be satisfied. Parking is great. Service decent.

Asahi is a pretty solid spot, was always my go to local sushi. However, as of late I feel as if they are slipping a little. I think their nigiri is always pretty darn good. Recommend the Blue fin nigiri, hamachi nigiri, and ocean drive roll

Ira Shai Ma-Sei! Asahi is a great Japanese restaurant located in the Palatine area. We ordered: Chicken katsu -- Breaded chicken breast, deep fried and served with tonkatsu sauce. Really good portions Rainbow roll -- California, 5 pieces of fresh fish, which looked to be salmon, tuna, white tuna, shrimp, and yellow tail Spider roll -- Whole soft shell crab, cucumber, avocado, sweet sauce. These always come out thicker, and it was delicious! They also have bento boxes to check out, which was a hard choice to not get. Service was great! Dining area is somewhat tiny... a few booths, a couple of tables, and few seats at the sushi bar, by the chefs. Overall, great food and experience!

    Sashimi -chef's choice.

Great local spot where the chef and his wife are there making sure you have a nice experience. The menu is comprehensive with lots of fresh sushi. It's clean and open.

As an unplanned stop for sushi, this place was great! The service was quick, the staff accommodating and the Courtney roll was delicious. We had veggie tempura and edamame as apps before sushi and everything came out quickly and fresh. Service was spot on! Truly a hidden gem!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]What an amazing date night spot![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Though a little deceiving at first, this hole in the wall will surprise you with its amazing food and inviting ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The chef took our orders, answered our questions, and the food was great. Definitely recommend for a fun or quick sushi date.

The sushi and sashimi here are phenomenal! The fishes are fresh, the cut is large and the marbling is beautiful. Compared to the other restaurants I've been to, they have the best raw fish by far. My favorites are the salmon and yellow tail. The pricing is also competitive, especially for the quality of fish you are getting. The sushi rolls are pretty good, too. Some of my favorites include: -Mongolian roll -Red dragon roll -C.S.T.-Spicy tuna roll, topped with tempura crumbs and spicy mayo. -Spider Roll-Soft shell crab As for the appetizer, the Golden Shrimp is rich and creamy. The service is great! The wait staff is very attentive and the sushi chef is friendly. ....| \ _ , , , - - , , _ , .../ , ` . - ' ` ' . _ \ - ; ; ; , _ ..| , a - ) ) _ . ; . They wouldn't allow it, which was surprising because other sushi restaurants I've visited have been much more accommodating--especially when the substitute item is equal or lower in cost. It definitely started the meal off on a frustrating note. I ended up ordering the Salmon Bento Box, and overall it was below average. The salmon didn't taste very fresh to me, and the grill marks looked more like they were added for appearance than from an actual grill. The whole dish just felt a bit off and not what I was hoping for. Between the lack of flexibility and the underwhelming food, this visit just didn't hit the mark. With so many other sushi places nearby that are more accommodating and offer better quality, I'm not sure I'd return.

It's been since December that $75 of debt that shouldn't be on my charge card has been on my charge card for food that caused poisoning. They claimed finally today after many months to refund half the bill because my mate didn't puke. So apparently puking is the refund threshold. Not having dry barely edible rice. This restaurant needs to be investigated. They can't even seem to find my transaction. Check the f'ing point of sale machine. Dispensary has records for sales going back to 2020 for me. If you can't keep proper records for your products sold you shouldn't keep your money. Losers. Got a half refund. That's a half assed apology. The food was average, nothing that stood out as great or exceptionally bad. The one thing I remembered thinking positively was the curry chicken rice plate. The curry sauce was good. The chicken wasn't the traditional breaded chicken cutlet, rather pieces of chicken karage, which was good. Unfortunately, service was on the slower side. Our server checked in only occasionally, and the entrées took quite a while to come out. I ordered the teriyaki salmon, which ended up being overcooked and a bit charred on the side, so it wasn't very enjoyable. The couscous and veggies that came with it, however, were really good.
