Tonight, we decided to try a new sushi restaurant. 5th Ave had a bunch of specials that made their prices cheap. Buy 1 get 1 free volcano rolls! We also got spicy tuna, spicy scallop, and shrimp California rolls. Unfortunately, the rolls just didn't carry any flavor. They were bland and definitely not spicy (my wife can't handle spicy food and she thought they were bland). The prices are good, but it took a hour to get our food. The food was bland. This is an update for my previous review on 5th Ave Sushi and as stated before: I never been to a sushi restaurant that microwaves their food until now. I'm disappointed and disgusted. Came in once and was greeted by a salty individual who looked more upset that I was eating in rather than taking out. I was literally the only one eating there on a Friday night which says a lot. I ordered a couple appetizers and three dumplings in, I bit straight down on a frozen one. This means my food was frozen prior to the cook (and owner) actually cooking it, even though he failed to do so. This disgusted me even more and I told the man and he angrily grabbed my dishes, went to the kitchen, and all I could hear is him opening a microwave, slamming the door closed, and then the beeps of him putting in the time before starting it and returning. I did't eat after that and even walked without paying. I unfortunately got food poisoning over the tiny amount of food I did eat. What throws me off is that the restaurant seemed clean. Then again I had no way of seeing how the kitchen looked. I'll never eat here again and I highly recommend you taking this one off your list. UPDATE: I had ment to update this prior to now but honestly after my experience, I wanted nothing to do with this place let alone thinking of it. However, I thought I should return and mention that I actually wound up chipping two teeth that day on the frozen dumplings. I was told this at the dentist the same week and I had to have them grind down and smooth the areas affected which was costly. You only get one original set of adult teeth. If I could give it 0 stars I would!! I was at work and I ordered Uber Eats from here. The lady that delivered was wonderful, my food got to me within 10 minutes of ordering. The first bite I took of the sushi it tasted rotten. I tried the second roll I ordered and the same thing! I called the restaurant to just let them know and the man that answered the phone was just rude. Yelling at me saying it's not his problem he just made it and I have to take it up with Uber Eats. I told him Uber Eats is not the problem. The food that I ordered and paid for is the problem. He just kept arguing with me being very rude and I was getting nowhere with the conversation. Went here based on a recommendation for the AYCE menu. I'm not sure the sushi is even real. There was a lot of rice in the rolls and the presentation was average. There was one other table in the restaurant with 2 people dining and the service was pretty bad. I would not recommend this place to anyone who enjoys "sushi". If you order online, they offer 50% off. I am pretty sure there's a reason for that. There are other sushi places in the area that are much better quality and service. I would order again. But the delivery guy didn't read the instructions I added. I asked for lots of napkins, 2 chopsticks and plates. I gave the driver a decent tip but next time I order I'm not going to give such a big tip. Although the food was delivered early. The driver didn't read the instructions so I was not happy. BAD Experience! My daughter had the Spicy Tuna Roll from the Des Plaines location and the staff person was rude, and could not care less what happened when my daughter threw up due to eating the Spicy Tuna Roll from this store. The staff person informed me abruptly that we had to go to the doctor first to get any compensation for this. DO Not Eat The Spicy Tina Roll from this store! I used to be a big fan of this place with its AYCE dinner selection which I thought were very decent rolls that taste good and had a great price point (around $20/pp) -- this was a few years ago. But I recently came back for a lunch date AYCE ($16/pp) yesterday and all the feels were gone. Not sure if it was because this was because it was lunch vs dinner all the other times but everything lacked luster. The sushi was dry with no sauce and essentially no taste. The maki rolls were stuffed with more rice than I can remember before. The place was also empty around lunch time which makes me think it needed to cut corners on the quality which I get but it is really a catch 22 scenario. We ordered enough sushi for the first round but I was so unimpressed and tired of the taste, I didn't even want to order a second round and we are sushi lovers! I would say the best part of it (if there was one) would be the appetizers for me. The pot stickers and xiu mai, miso soup and Japanese salad were Okay. The beef skewers appetizer was hard and chewy. The seaweed salad was so tiny you could eat it in one bite and it was on top of radishes which was not seaweed. Frankly I am a bit disappointed because I had raved about this place to friends before but unfortunately I don't feel the same anymore. I'm not one of those health freaks but ew. It's so greasy and not even good tasting grease. The soy sauce helped a lil but was that cheap soy sauce. I visited 5th Avenue Sushi on a Sunday evening. I was very happy they were open. Many of the other sushi restaurants in the area are closed on Sunday. It was pretty empty inside the restaurant, but we were greeted as soon as we walked in. We told them we wanted to order take out. We were given two paper menus and were offered a bench while we made our selections. The staff was very kind and attentive. Our order was nicely packed and we headed out. We ordered two shrimp tempura rolls and one Godzilla roll. The rolls were ok. Not bad at all but not amazing. They satisfied my craving. I agreed to the 1 hour. I went to the restaurant and the food was just completed now at 1:45 pm. ZERO STARS, you better off with gas station sushi. Let's start with service. Our table was the only patroons of the restaurant, and it was a weekend. Older gentleman with gray hair brought water with no ice and no straws. He was very rude when we asked for straws. We waited 15-20 minutes after we made our selection for him to return to only be rude again about the appetizer we ordered. The water was warm and clearly not filtered. Another waiter took over after this, he was very nice and tried his best. The food was terrible, the sushi was prepared with old rice that reminded me of rice you would get straight out of refrigerator. And when i tell you the sushi was about 90% rice I'm not exaggerating. One of the rolls I ordered was shrimp tempura, only half of the roll actually had shrimp rest was just a roll with fried breading. The fish did not seem fresh. Four people from our group vomited within an hour of leaving and definitely not from over eating as most of us got charged extra for leaving uneaten sushi. The restaurant used to be okay a few years ago, now is a dump with horrible food, attitude, and terrible managerial practices. I felt skeptical about this place as soon as I walked in. The whole atmosphere smelled like old aged frying oil. We still decided to give it a shot. We ordered the all you can eat option. It took exactly 27 minutes for them to make 4 rolls for a party of 3 people. The rolls were a scam.. they stuffed it with too much rice and there were barely any fish inside. I never like to eat at AYCE sushi places because I feel like the fish to rice ratio is usually very low and of low quality. I was unfortunately right in this case. The service at the 5th avenue wasn't too great either, as our waiter was not very friendly. I ordered the naruto roll and rainbow roll with brown rice. The brown rice made the texture of the roll taste kind of weird, and there wasn't much fish on the roll either. I also got the seaweed salad, which was a good portion. 5th Avenue Sushi is a restaurant that has sushi similar to Sushi Para, decor similar to Sun Shui, and plating similiar to Sushi Ai. Its ingredient quality is similar to those of better sushi restaurants in the area (although the vegetables could be a little more crisp and fresher - but I'm probably spoiled by going to Sushi Para) but the flavor combinations are better designed and uses less sauce than most other similar restaurants in the area. The area in which this restaurant really shines is presentation. Both the plating and the design of the rolls is beautiful. The dining room is also spacious and comfortable with a city-like feel to it. The thoughtful design even extends into the washroom with modern materials used throughout to give it a chic feel. The service was also prompt and friendly. The food comes in generous portions at good prices. When my group came here for lunch we got appetizers such as shrimp chips and edamame and then either salad with miso dressing or miso soup and seaweed salad to accompany the meal. It was very nice to get so many extras for a lunch that was inexpensive for Japanese. The frying here is very good so make sure you try dishes that contain items such as shrimp tempura, fried soft shell crab, fried squid, etc. Overall, this is another great sushi addition to the area and a great place to take friends where I know they'll enjoy the atmosphere and food as well. read more

Was pleasantly surprised to find out there is a daily special where certain rolls are half off! I took advantage and purchased the Flaming Dragon Roll, the Spider Roll and the Godzilla Roll (big shrimp tempura fan, if you're keeping count)! All were great, especially cooked vs chilled rolls. The texture of the rice was good. Sometimes a little left to be desired with the seaweed wrap, but we'll blame it on a takeout experience rather than freshly rolled. The only thing I did not care for was the crab Rangoon as an appetizer. My guess is the specialty is really sushi here. If you're looking for takeout Chinese faire, search elsewhere. read more

All I want to do is share my experience. My family, and I use to go there. No longer. I am the type of person who looks over there bill. Before the bill here is my experience.So we ordered , and when the sushi arrived both sushi, and rolls 99% rice 1 percent fish. I'm like ok deal with it. Then the bill came ,and 2 of the 3 items were higher priced on the bill then the menu. When the server came back he said the prices were changed, and I had to pay the higher price. I didn't get up set , and I said this is your price right here , again he talked to the I guess the owner , and the server came back ,and said NO I am to pay the higher price. At this point what can I do. I paid , and even left the server a 15 percent tip. Well that is my experience. I hope you have a better experience then I did. A former customer. Just my opinion. Do your self a favor.... Go ANYWHERE, but this place. Bad food almost all rice, avoid the servers warm water, finger nail slices of fish, mostly rice. With few , and at my time 3 , 1.5 plus hours to get food. I went there for years. They have seen me, and my family for years. They do not honor there own advertising, and will fight out load with you when you show them the advertising pricing vs what they charge you. The all you can eat sushi meal is a good deal. Reasonably priced, with plenty of options. I've certainly seen much better, but also much worse. Going off the food alone, I'd give it a 2.5. The problem is the service. I was seated, visited to order appetizer, brought apps, visited to order meal, brought meal, brought check. My water sat empty from appetizers on. If they're slammed, I get it. There was one other couple. The waitress/owner? checked on her daughter over in the corner more than me. Its been empty each time. My first visit one couple eventually came in, the second time, a take out order and a couple came in. I can't imagine this place will be open much longer, which might be for the best. read more

Meh....ordering the AYCE is the way to go here. When I went with co-workers a few months back we did the AYCE and it was decent. This time around I went solo for lunch and decided on one of their signature rolls instead and was not pleased. Now I know why this place wasn't crowded at all even during lunch hour both times I've visited. Even with the small crowd service was slow. The male server I got acted like he wanted to be anywhere but at 5th. He was mostly efficient but almost robot like. I got two basic rolls and one specialty. My order came with cold edamame and some kind of puff chips. When the rolls arrived he asked if I wanted wasabi. The question threw me a bit since I thought wasabi was standard when having sushi. I said yes and he came back with wasabi and ginger (another standard). The basic rolls I ordered look to be 90% rice and just a tiny bit of salmon and avocado. I could've let that slide if the signature roll I ordered didn't also lack the salmon and tuna. In fact there was only a tiny bit of each. I should've stuck with Sun Shui. I won't be back. read more

Have had a lot of sushi in this area and this does not fill up on rice and gives huge portions. Currently has a special for the all you can eat menu that comes with apps and ice cream! I hard and saw the reviews for this place, but I'm a person who only believes thing that I experienced my self. So my friends and I went there for lunch to see if what people said were true or not. Someone commented that the Butterfly roll had almost no smoked salmon flavor. Well I want to say that the reason that there's no smoked salmon flavor was because there wasn't any smoked salmon in that roll I'm the first place. I give this place 4/5 because of the price. The sushi is above average and it is pretty cheap! When I lived around here I always ordered takeout from here. The funny thing is that the place is called 5th Avenue Sushi, but the inside has a huge picture of Time Square.
