Perfectly cooked and seasoned rice, fish that's been carefully chosen and prepared, and a menu that reflects tradition but also elevates it beyond the mundane. They've put the same level of attention and care into their selection of sakes. Service was warm and friendly, but never pushy or bothersome. They sent me a free dessert when they overheard my wife mention it was my birthday, it was a complete surprise. They also very thoughtfully asked if I'd like them to sing (I did not). That kind of thoughtful service reflects the comfortable, laid back atmosphere they've maintained, a welcome change over many high end sushi establishments that can be too stuffy. A few chewy seaweed pieces but I won't let that knock the freshness of the sushi. Service is where I have to drop a star. Not friendly, just pointed to the bar and told us to have a seat. When she came to take our order she didn't greet us or ask about anything besides "what would you like". We ordered 4 rolls which came out fairly quick...one at a time and the last two together. We then asked for 2 more rolled after flagging her down. She kept coughing which was a bit off putting. Assuming she was sick and maybe wasn't feeling well. Eeeeek. Cozy and intimate place and new favorite place for sushi. I came here with a girlfriend for dinner and we were very impressed with the quality and freshness of the sushi. My favorite was the scallops and moke fish liver pate. This was definitely a unique take on liver pate that Kaido presented beautifully. Kaido Sushi came as a top sushi recommendation to me from another Yelp Elite and it did not disappoint. It's located in a strip mall and the inside isn't overly large. One can sit at a table or the main sushi counter. The night I visited, it was rather slow which allowed staff to thoroughly wait on us. I asked a couple of questions about the menu. Our server explained that the most popular rolls were the Garlic Salmon, Mafia, and Hamachi Truffle. Most premium maki come as 8 rolls with the exception of Pink Flower and Tequila which are served as 6. All rolls are made to order with fresh ingredients. I also loved that they offered three options for veggie rolls as it's still my preference! To start, we ordered both the Lychee-tini and Old Fashioned cocktails. They couldn't have been more different in flavor profiles. The Old Fashioned was spirit forward yet smooth. It had a really nice finishing note that directly came from the Japanese Whiskey used. The Lychee-tini was sweeter and had good flavor. I also loved that there was actually a lychee at the bottom of the glass. For mains, my husband got the Mafia and Hamachi Truffle rolls per the staff's recommendation. He explained that the Mafia rolls were more of a mild heat. He preferred the Hamachi Truffle roll as it had a more unique and depth of flavor. I got the Black Garden roll without the jalapeño. I loved the freshness of the rolls and thoroughly enjoyed the veggies mixed with the sauce it had. We both agreed that all rolls tasted like they were made with premium, high quality ingredients. Once we finished, the chef came out to ask how we liked everything. Kaido's service level was amazing with staff clearing plates, refilling water, checking in on how we were doing, and just making sure we had the best dining experience. Came here, finally on a Sunday night and made reservations just in case. However, they were never really full. It is located in a strip mall so there was lots of shared parking as well. Service the entire night was very quick and attentive. Food came out very quickly as well. This was definitely high-quality fish and really well-made, rolls, hand rolls, and all their dishes overall. I will say that this was a little bit pricier than other sushi restaurants in the area. However, the combination of flavors here is really rather unique. This is definitely elevated sushi not run-of-the-mill sushi and maki rolls. I could definitely see this place as an everyday dinner spot, but also cute with the ambience to make it even for a nice dinner or special event dinner out. Nonetheless we got seated in less than 5 minutes nonetheless. I ordered the "King" Omakase and for well under $100, I would call the package an incredible deal. We always get the Jack and Kind omakase, and the quality for the price is amazing. Do not judge Kaido by its strip mall location. It's a somewhat small place and at 5PM on a Saturday it was already packed. The lighting is dim and pleasant, the decor classy but not overly fancy. It's a place you could come for a more casual dinner or a special occasion, depending on what you order. They do take reservations. I ordered two of the 3 veggie maki-- the Orchard and Chili Mango. Both were really fresh and delicious. I always appreciate a sushi spot that does more than just a cucumber or avocado roll for their vegan customers. FOOD: We did the Queen Omakase where it came with soup, 3 chef's signatures, and 7 pieces of nigiri. I got a miso soup and it was good but nothing super special. However, the chef's signatures were outstanding. There wasn't one that I enjoyed more than the others, they were all so good. The 7 pieces of nigiri were also great. The rice is crispy on the bottom which surprised me but I didn't mind and the nigiri were fresh and delicious. Overall, the Omakase was nice experience but did not fill us up. We ended up order 2 premium maki rolls and 2 hand rolls. We order the Hotate Sake and Golden Dragon maki rolls and Sassy Crab and Miso Salmon hand rolls. I'm so happy that we order the rolls because they were very good. Again, their fish was so fresh and the rolls are creative. Nothing I've had at other sushi places. If that was not enough food we orders a pistachio truffle, limoncello truffle, and the cappuccino truffle was on the house for my friend's birthday. I was expecting a small piece of truffle but they were actually big. All of them were great but my favorite was the cappuccino truffle. It was heavenly! Kaido Sushi was a wonder surprise. Kaido leaves other establishments in the dust. I mean that, seriously. Let's put it this way. In all the years I have been eating sushi / sashimi, my choices have been limited, somewhat safe. Salmon, Tuna, Scallop, Unagi, Ama Ebi etc... Maybe I get a unique roll or something like that. But that's it. Every time I set foot in Kaido, I try something new, and it's downright beyond awesome! I have come to love other fish. I credit Kaido for that... I cannot believe I did not find this place before! Everything was exquisite! I ordered a variety of appetizers and every single one was an explosion of different flavors. It is a sign of a good sushi restaurant when you practically do not use soya sauce because the taste of each ingredient is amazing. I highly recommend all appetizers that I tried: Scallop with Ikura, Salmon mania, Skypiea, Uni Gamtae and Negi Toro. My husband opted for King Omakase. He was very impressed by all his dishes. Kaido Sushi is a wonderful quaint restaurant that serves mostly sushi. How did my experience with their sushi offerings go? Let's find out: Ambiance The restaurant is not a really big. There is a sushi bar you can sit at and table along the wall. Most table seem to consist of a booth ide and chairs on the opposite side. The set up seem to maximize seating but does keep your neighbor kind of close. The lighting in the restaurant was bright. Service The staff was super friendly. They were pretty busy but still kept out drinks filled. The smaller space tends to make it seem like a member of the serving staff is always there but I never really felt like they were hovering over me. They were polite and explained the dishes that were brought to the table and made sure the water was filled up. Food King Omakaze This came option came with miso soup, 3 chef creations and 11 pieces of nagiri sushi pick by the sushi chef. Miso soup The miso soup had mushrooms in it. The soup had a subtle taste to it which was a little different but still pleasant. Scallop with ikura The scallop was placed on a soup spoon. It had some roe on top with a slice of jalapeño. It had a pleasant citrusy sauce. Hamachi Carpaccio The hamachi sat upon some shredded apple, mango, and red onion. It was accompanied by some basil ponzu sauce. The apples, mangos, and red onion gave it a nice acidity along with a nice crunchy texture along with the meaty fish. Salmon mania There were salmon sashimi arranged in a rose pattern. There was a garlic Ponzi sauce and some mayo that came with the dish. The salmon tasted fresh and had little bits of fried garlic. The roe also gives a nice salty aspect to the dish. The 11 pieces of Nigiri sushi were delicious. I was recommended by the staff to eat the dish from left to right which increases the intensity of the taste. The scallop had a nice subtle taste. While on the other end, there was a shrimp. The shrimp had a nice crunch to it with a subtle char with it. All the fish tasted really fresh and was cut perfectly. Tequila maki roll This roll had a piece of tuna and had a fresh/green taste from the cilantro. Overall Kaido sushi is a wonderful sushi place. Who knew we'd find such an incredible omakase experience outside of the city. Kaido is located in a strip with plenty of parking. Once you enter the restaurant you are stepping foot into beautiful Japanese decor allowing you to feel like you're swept away to Asia. We had a reservation and were quickly seated. We started our evening with tea. It came out in these cute individual tea brewers. I got the chamomile tea and it was great, and was able to warm us up after coming in from the chilly outdoors. We ended up trying the King Omakase. This journey started with their miso soup, which was filled with tofu and mushrooms. The miso soup as simple as it is had tons of flavors. After that we were brought out a few different appetizers including the Hirami Crudo, Salmon Mania, Hamachi Carpaccio, and the Red Line. Each of these dishes had a unique flavor and a beautiful presentation. Some of them had a brief kick that I wasn't fully expecting but the presentation was incredible! My favorites were the salmon mania and the red line. Once we were all done with apps, out came our nigiri tasting. Each nigiri was fresh and the flavors were swimming in your mouth. The pieces were already made with soy so we didn't have to dip them, unless we wanted to, and we felt there was no need for them as each one came out full of flavor on their own. The sauce tasted kind of like pesto-y to me, but I believe that was the truffle. We liked the dressing on the green arrow salad that we shared as well. I had this place bookmarked for months and finally came here Saturday night. We waited for about 10-15mins at like 7:30 for a table since I didn't make a reservation which was fine. There were shops around to keep us busy while waiting for a table. I got the Jack Omakase because I love sashimi and it was amazing!
