We've only tried Chicago Ramen, Palatine location this one time. It was a bit of a weird experience. The restaurant was empty when we arrived, a few tables arrived after we were there. I believe we ate lunch on a weekday. The service was ok, a few of the items we wanted to order were not available. Their sushi chef was not there that day, so no sushi was available to order, along with one or two other entrees we wanted to order. The food was average, nothing that stood out as great or exceptionally bad. The one thing I remembered thinking positively was the curry chicken rice plate. The curry sauce was good. The chicken wasn't the traditional breaded chicken cutlet, rather pieces of chicken karage, which was good. I don't know if it would be fair to say we'd never go back to try again, but we do have places we really like near by, so it isn't likely we're going back anytime soon. read more

The question we have every Saturday, what are we going to eat? We were out running errands and it was cold so the easy answer was ramen! Decided to give Chicago Ramen a try in Palatine. As we walked in the restaurant had a rectangle setting with tables left and right sides. The kitchen area is straigt back and is open. Between the kitchen and eating area is a sit down bar. There was a couple waiting for their food and someone waiting for a take out order when we walked in. We were told we can just pick a place to sit. The staff consisted of a chef and a server. While we were waiting, it felt like the chef and the server had some tension between each other. It took a little while for the server to come over and take our orders. She was very quiet and could barley hear her. We tried to order Fried Tofu and Crispy Rice w/ Tuna for appetizers but they were out. We ended up getting Shrimp Tempura and Chicken Buns. As for our orders, we ordered Spicy Veggie Ramen w/ Egg, Veggie Ramen, Spicy Shrimp Wonton Ramen, and Spicy Chicken Ramen w/ Egg. As the server walked away, we asked if we can have water. As the food was being cooked, the chef informed the server that some food was up (a Chicken dish) and placed it on the bar - I believe it was couple next to us. It sat on the bar for a good 20 minutes or more. We received our food and the chicken was till there. The couple was done eating and asked for the check, they asked to remove the chicken as it was never received. As for the food, the Shrimp Tempura was good - came in 3 pieces. It was crunch and cooked nicely but they were small. The Chicken Buns only came in 1 piece so I guess it was a Chicken Bun! It was small but was told it was good. The Ramen dishes were really good! Nice heat for the spicy ones, good on this cold day. The noodles were great! and had a perfect texture The egg had a nice silk to it. We all said the Ramen was a repeat! Not so much for the appetizers as they were not worth the price cause if the portions. All in all, Ramen was tasty and we would consider this place. My husband and I are huge ramen fans, and after hearing great things about Chicago Ramen, we were excited to finally give it a try. Unfortunately, it was a major letdown. We ordered the Red Miso Ramen and White Miso Ramen, both with egg, along with the karaage. Right away, we noticed our bowls were seriously low on broth--not the rich, comforting experience we were expecting. The noodles were oddly tough, and the whole dish felt like it had been scraped together from the bottom of the pot at the end of the night. Instead of the balanced, flavorful bowls we had hoped for, we got something that felt like leftovers. The karaage was fine, but nothing special. My husband picked up, so I can't say what the ambiance or aesthetic is like inside. But it's super quick! Food was still hot. Love that the ramen comes in a bowl-like container so you don't necessarily have to transfer it to a bowl to eat (convenient if you're not at home or eating outside). Broth comes separately so the noodles don't get soggy. The ramen egg has the perfect jammy yolk! What we got: - I got the chicken ramen, and it's somehow so rich. I really appreciate the toppings. The spinach and saffron was a fun change up from the usual bean sprouts. And it comes with the cute little swirly naruto (fish cake)! The bamboo seemed like fresh bamboo--it was really nice. - My husband got the tsukemen. This is where you dip the noodles in the broth instead of pouring the soup over the noodles and drinking everything. This was unique to me because of the peanutty flavor--it wasn't my favorite but it was definitely unique and stood out to me. First impression is disappointment. Don't waste your time trying it. We were 1 of 2 parties in the restaurant. When we walked in, the server asked us to sit anywhere. There wasn't a host. The atmosphere is decent. The server/host turned on the music then it just stopped and never played again. We asked for one of the boba drinks and the server said they don't have it at all. Then I ordered spicy crispy rice tuna and a sushi roll. The server said, "the lady who makes sushi isn't here so we don't have any sushi." What is the point of this place exactly and how do they expect to succeed??? The spicy tuna crispy rice was bland, the rice wasn't seasoned and the tuna was subpar and not spicy at all. But this was so bad that I feel I have to let people know there is way better for you out there for people in the same town. This is extremely disappointing because I love Chicago Ramen, but I've been noticing the quality has gone down hill with new locations opening up. I ordered karaage and it came out soggy and soft like it came out of a microwave. Seriously tasted like Tyson chicken nuggets out of a microwave. Both the white and red miso noodles were over cooked and super soft, no chew to them. Flavor was lacking in both ramens, chashu was dry and it made me sad because I know how great this ramen can be. This latest location of the local chain of ramen restaurants mostly lives up to the standard set by the others. Based on the Chicken Ramen and Beef Curry Ramen that we had, the execution is as good as the locations in Wheeling and Mundelein. There are some improvements still needed in the service, however. Apparently they do not have the large napkins nor the "splash bibs" that the other locations have. With the beef curry Ramen you're taking a gamble that your clothing will remain untouched without them. The service was otherwise competent if perfunct. read more

I have a hard time finding flavorful veggie ramen options in the suburbs and I love the veggie and spicy veggie ramen here. The garlic edamame are also a favorite too. Visited this location on recommendation of a friend. On a Weds evening, arrived during prime dinner time and only two people were dining in the restaurant. All employees were in the kitchen and - after a short but awkward wait - spotted us and called out that we could sit at any table. Room looked nice and striking in red with large chandelier. We are big ramen fans, so we were looking forward to trying this spot. Menu included some different options for ramen, with detailed descriptions, and also listed popular appetizers. We decided on Japanese calamari, red miso ramen and white miso ramen. Wait was long for an empty restaurant (other table left soon after our arrival). The calamari was off putting. Not crispy, very salty, drenched in a sweet sauce, very large and lacked tenderness. It was somewhat difficult to chew. The ramens were both tasteless, including the chashu pork slices. My noodles tasted overly doughy. Odd. My teenage son usually devours ramen and left his bowl mostly full. This was a one and done for us. read more

First off, the staff was super friendly, and took lots of effort to make sure you had the best experience. The interior of the restaurant was also beautiful! Now for the food. There were lots of add-ons and spices at your table for you to add on your ramen. They also filled your bowl to the top with fresh ingredients. The broth and noodles were so flavorful and creamy. This place is crazy. We placed an order at 1:20 PM today for a company lunch. Everyone was really excited to get the spicy miso Ramen! A short time later, we received a notice from toast that Chicago Ramen had not confirmed the order and that we should call them. We did call them on the number provided, same as on their website Etc and no one ever answered the phone. After an hour or so, when everyone being very hungry, we gave up and placed an order with another restaurant who delivered it in a reasonable amount of time. This is where it gets crazy... At 6:30 PM this evening I got a notice that "hey our food had been delivered!" we placed a lunch order and they refused to confirm it or answer their phone and then delivered it without explanation. Five hours later long after the business had closed and everyone had gone home. My main question is, how do you operate a restaurant and just not answer your telephone? We literally called them over and over again for hours. Mind-boggling. I sure hope they don't give us trouble getting a refund because this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. read more

First time at a Chicago ramen and overall I thought it was pretty good. I had the red spicy miso ramen which was very tasty. The ramen broth is different than the ramen spots I typically go to as it is somewhat creamy and not a clearer broth. Also the ramen noodles were wider than I am accustomed to but were good. The price was in line with other ramen places I go to also. Overall I thought it was pretty good although not as good as my favorite place. CHECK YOUR BILL. The food was ok, about a four out of 10. However, when we got the bill, we were shocked to find out that we had been charged over $50 for a bowl of Ramen and an appetizer. The waitress did not give an itemized receipt and just handed me the tablet with the tip screen. When I refuse to sign until I received an itemized receipt, she tried tapping the screen in the confirm area. To me, it seemed like she was trying to charge my card the full amount without my consent or signature. After I told her I was refusing to sign until I got that receipt, she walked away for several minutes into the back of the kitchen. At that time, another staff member approached us and asked if everything was ok. We explained the situation and she said there was no reason we should be getting charged that much when our waitress finally came back. She kept saying something about giving us the bill for the wrong table. However, for over 20 minutes we had been the only table. Our bill ended up being $25. I hope this was a mistake but there are too many coincidences that it seems intentional. read more
