Red Miso Ramen, White Miso Ramen, Egg, Karaage Chicken.
    Klaudia B.

My husband and I are huge ramen fans, and after hearing great things about Chicago Ramen, we were excited to finally give it a try. Unfortunately, it was a major letdown. We ordered the Red Miso Ramen and White Miso Ramen, both with egg, along with the karaage. Right away, we noticed our bowls were seriously low on broth--not the rich, comforting experience we were expecting. The noodles were oddly tough, and the whole dish felt like it had been scraped together from the bottom of the pot at the end of the night. Instead of the balanced, flavorful bowls we had hoped for, we got something that felt like leftovers. The karaage was fine, but nothing special. For the price and the reputation, we expected way better. Maybe we caught them on an off night, but given our experience, we're in no rush to come back.

    Eek, messy packing

We ordered to go, and the packing was a little hastily done this time--there was quite a bit of spilled sauce all over the bag. My husband picked up, so I can't say what the ambiance or aesthetic is like inside. But it's super quick! Food was still hot. Love that the ramen comes in a bowl-like container so you don't necessarily have to transfer it to a bowl to eat (convenient if you're not at home or eating outside). Broth comes separately so the noodles don't get soggy. The ramen egg has the perfect jammy yolk! What we got: - I got the chicken ramen, and it's somehow so rich. I really appreciate the toppings. The spinach and saffron was a fun change up from the usual bean sprouts. And it comes with the cute little swirly naruto (fish cake)! The bamboo seemed like fresh bamboo--it was really nice. - My husband got the tsukemen. This is where you dip the noodles in the broth instead of pouring the soup over the noodles and drinking everything. This was unique to me because of the peanutty flavor--it wasn't my favorite but it was definitely unique and stood out to me. Definitely would order from here again--the chicken ramen is seriously like a comfort dish and perfect for when you're feeling a little under the weather.

I don't like giving places low reviews, because it really only means my expectations were let down and it likely cost me more money than I would have paid for the low reviewed dining experience. But this was so bad that I feel I have to let people know there is way better for you out there for people in the same town. Calling this place anywhere close to authentic would be the equivalent as saying McDonalds is where you need to go to have a great cheeseburger. Or Panda Express is the spot for really good Chinese food. It's just not good. The noodles themselves weren't even ramen noodles. They were close to being undon noodles more than anything. And for the price, it's a total rip off. If you want a "better" ramen experience in the area, drive to the other side of town to Ramen House. I'm not saying they have amazing ramen, but it's much closer to a traditional, good quality, ramen experience. Now, I do enjoy an occasional bite at Panda or McDonalds once a year (or so). But not for steak house prices. This wasn't even good enough for me to even want to pay fast food prices. Do yourself a favor and save your money for a better ramen place. Service was "ok" and ambiance was "great". But that couldn't save this place from getting a low review.

This is extremely disappointing because I love Chicago Ramen, but I've been noticing the quality has gone down hill with new locations opening up. I ordered karaage and it came out soggy and soft like it came out of a microwave. Seriously tasted like Tyson chicken nuggets out of a microwave. Both the white and red miso noodles were over cooked and super soft, no chew to them. Flavor was lacking in both ramens, chashu was dry and it made me sad because I know how great this ramen can be. I hope they try to improve and care about what they're serving like they did in the beginning.

This latest location of the local chain of ramen restaurants mostly lives up to the standard set by the others. Based on the Chicken Ramen and Beef Curry Ramen that we had, the execution is as good as the locations in Wheeling and Mundelein. There are some improvements still needed in the service, however. Apparently they do not have the large napkins nor the "splash bibs" that the other locations have. With the beef curry Ramen you're taking a gamble that your clothing will remain untouched without them. The service was otherwise competent if perfunct.

Slurping with satisfaction. The Chicken Ramen at Chicago Ramen is a tastebud explosion!

This was AMAZING! I lived in Japan for a few years, and this was the best ramen I've had back in the states. We will be back anytime we are in town. I got the red miso spicy ramen 10/10

We walked into a casual, cozy space with a smaller dining area that can feel busy during peak hours, but the atmosphere stays simple and focused on the food rather than a polished dining experience. The setup works well for a place centered around a warm bowl of noodles, where the attention stays on what is in the bowl rather than what is on the walls. The ramen is the main reason to visit, especially the signature Kitakata-style noodles. The noodles have a thicker, springy texture that gives each bowl a satisfying bite, and the broths are where the restaurant stands out. We tried the Spicy Miso Ramen, which brought a deeper, richer flavor with a noticeable kick, and the Green Chili Shio Ramen, which offered a lighter but still flavorful option with a cleaner broth profile. The balance between the noodles, broth, and toppings made the bowls feel thoughtfully put together rather than just another standard ramen option. The toppings were generous and the eggs were cooked well, adding a creamy richness that tied the bowl together. Beyond ramen, the sides are worth adding to the meal. We ordered the pan-fried gyoza, which came out with a crisp exterior and a juicy filling, making it one of the stronger starters to share. The karaage also added variety if you want something beyond noodles, with a crispy coating that held up without being greasy. The menu has enough options for different preferences, including vegetarian ramen choices that do not feel like an afterthought. Because of its popularity, waits can happen, especially during dinner hours and weekends. Joining the waitlist ahead of time is a good idea if you are planning around a specific schedule. The restaurant moves with a steady pace once seated, and the service generally matches the casual style of the space. The staff handle the flow efficiently, and even when the dining room is full, the pace of the meal stays comfortable without feeling rushed. Kitakata Ramen Ban Nai is a strong ramen destination for anyone looking for flavorful broths, well-textured noodles, and comforting Japanese dishes. The spicy ramen options and pan-fried gyoza are highlights, making it a place worth visiting when you want a satisfying bowl rather than just a quick noodle stop. The quality of the broth and the texture of the noodles make it a step above the average ramen spot, delivering a meal that feels complete and well considered.

Well- let's just say he wasn't too warm or welcoming and could barely grunt a greeting. Hmm. We were quickly seated in a very japanese-looking restaurant (a good sign). We ordered two apps - the chicken karaage and the agedashi tofu. I ordered the spicy tonkatsu pork ramen (not on their web menu, but still...). First demerit- my ramen arrived before the apps did. Seriously. Seriously? Me with a main dish and my hubby/friends bereft of food? Oh wow. I didn't touch it until the apps arrived a couple minutes later - finally their mains arrived. Yay. The apps? Well, the chicken karaage was really fried chicken breast meat (no bones; not a prob for me, but hubby - a japanese man by birth- was not impressed). The agedashi tofu was yummy and quite good. Nice! Ok- my ramen was - yes- spicy and oily, as any good ramen should be. The bad part? I could tell the bean sprouts weren't fresh as my sensitive digestive tract let me know - fast- that the sprouts were "not" fresh. Yikes. Not a good thing - hence the demerit. Ok- first- we may come again. But gosh. the workers really need to be a bit happier to be there- or - if they can't be pleasant - keep them out of the public's eye. That would be a big help- after all, this was our first visit- and it wasn't too welcoming - it would have offset the bad sprouts, you know?
