We've been here maybe 4-5 times before . Always like their lunch but have to say that dinner was one of the worst meals I've had. The fish tasted old and slimy. All of them. Apps were decent. It was one of those ugly Sunday evenings when you're lazy and dreading Monday. It took a while to decide whether we were going to a place that was closer and for takeout or if we wanted to drive a little further and sit down. The latter sounded like a better option but for pure lazy purposes, takeout was a viable option. As I drove towards staying closer, we ended up with rezzies at this spot. Service was friendly and helpful. My tea was constantly getting refilled. We ordered garlic edamame (so good, I wanted to drink the leftover sauce) and age dashi tofu (always one of my top faves at any Japanese restaurant that serves it). For rolls, Hamachi Lover and Sexy Lady (unagi and shrimp tempura) were on order. The rolls were nicely plated and huge. Sexy Lady was very similar to a Dragonroll, yummy but I was expecting a different flavor. The Hamachi Lover was exactly that except I felt the hamachi wasn't as buttery. Still good and I don't want to take away from that. If I'm gonna be picky, I felt there was too much rice on the rolls, which accounts for their size, but takes away from the flavor of the fish. I'm happy to have found a sushi spot that has a variety of rolls to choose from. Fan! read more

I was excited for a new sushi restaurant and I love this cute neighborhood. Came here on a Sunday night for date night and was seated right away. Ordered a variety of items. Some hits and misses. I think their menu is overall too long and they could remove some items and focus on the things they do really well. We loved the honeymoon shots. They were out of oysters so they discounted the dish by $4. They were served in cute heart dishes and were fun to eat. The hamachi collar and sashimi roll were also great. The collar was huge and tender and the sashimi roll had a large portion of sashimi on top of the roll. The misses were the garlic albacore. It was very bland and the fried onion was soft/stale. I didn't taste any garlic either. The monkey brains was also surprisingly bland and there was too much mayo. Got another roll but I can't even remember what it was - just a standard one. Staff is super friendly and I love the bright ambiance. One of our appetizers didn't arrive until nearly the end of the meal - not sure what happened with that. They also have a solid sake menu. Overall it was okay - would likely not return but I think it's a solid addition to the neighborhood. read more

We love this neighborhood and kid friendly restaurant! Our food always comes out super fast and we appreciate that since our daughter has a limited window span before she wants to do the next thing. It also helps when the staff helps turn on kid friendly shows on the TV to help buy us time to eat our meal while it's hot. Portion sizes are perfect and it's not stuffy dining. The mussels were hot and delicious- the real crab in the Berkeley roll was AMAZING. I also ordered the spider roll later in my meal because I was enjoying it so much! I also had a small sake. 5ish on a Friday night was slow so my party of one had plenty of options to sit. While the rolls were a little on the spendy side, they were worth the price! I've ordered twice for pick-up and the food has been great. Everything was prepared correctly and promptly and the service is very friendly. Excellent sashimi/nigiri and the sushi rice in particular is very well flavored. The tonkatsu was a little salty for my taste, but tender and packed separately in a vented box to stay crisp. There are a lot of overcomplicated americanized speciality rolls on the menu, but since Temari closed, this is now probably my favorite place for a basic sushi restaurant. read more

Great neighborhood spot! I live two blocks away, so I can order and walk right over for take out. When I got there everything was packed and ready to go. My new go-to place for sushi! Their fish is fresh and they give thick cuts so you definitely get your money's worth. Even my mom (whose dad was a sushi chef from Japan) loved their Nigiri. Great experience overall. The service is great and the wait for food is generally very short. The tea is delicious; very fragrant, but it isn't sickly strong. Maybe I'm not used to being charged for tea, but $1.50 is alright I guess. The lunch box is also pretty decent. The chunks of salmon and tuna sashimi are tender and fresh. The salmon teriyaki is a little overcooked, but pairs well with the nicely cooked rice. The seafood udon is an exceptional item. The soup is great because it isn't very salty nor is it too sweet. The portion of seafood is also worth the money too. The shrimp is abnormally skinny and long looking, but it's quite snappy in texture and still tastes great. The udon noodles are cooked nicely too. Not too soft and it still retains it's expected bounciness. The rainbow roll is pretty good, but I would prefer it to have slightly thicker slices of fish to pair with the mimic crab. Overall it was a great experience and I do look forward to coming back again when I have the time. I recommend this establishment. read more

I really like the sushi here. It's a small place. We started coming during their soft opening and we would always dine in since it's a tiny place and wasn't too crowded. It's not more crowded so we order to go. Ordering yo go has been interesting as a person of color. For some reason, they never place our food in a bag. We always have to ask. We've only ordered to go online one time, but it wasn't ready when I went to pick it up, so I had to wait a few more minutes. There are rarely other African-Americans or other people of dark skin, but they all are given their food in a bag without having to ask for a bag. It is a very frustrating observation that makes me sad. As for the food, I would give it 4 stars. read more
