The KJ, Rick is the best, the bartenders are friendly & the crowd is a wonderfully eclectic mix of enjoyable people. The stage area/dance floor/karaoke area is big & takes up about 1/2 the building, while the actual bar area (complete w/ pool table & retro video game table) takes up the other half. There's a great outdoor patio if you want to sit & smoke or chat w/out having to shout over the singers. Apparently they also do barbecues out there from late Spring through Summer. As I write this, they currently do karaoke 2 nights a week: Sunday & Wednesday, starting at 9pm. The song book has a wide variety of genres & is ever expanding, as Rick can find just about any song for you if the karaoke version exists. Regulars often bring food to share & many people are willing to carpool if you get to know people & ask around. Earlier in the week we tried to get bottle service which sounded like a great deal but they had sold out and instead we were put on the waitlist. I just felt bad for the girls because I know that if you don't have bottle service they won't have a place to sit when their feet hurt. We thought maybe this is a good thing since it means it will be popping. We were on the guest list but you had to be there before 1030. Of course we did not get there before 1030. We drove into downtown around 1115 and it was dead. No cars, no people just dead. Pulling up to Chukchansi Park we see life. There was a line of people and the parking lot was packed! We get in line only to be told the guest list was closed. Booo! So we sent my cousins who came up from The OC to work their magic ala Vegas Style. Before you knew it we (the guys) were getting patted to go inside. $10 cover charge. An attendant in the elevator whisks you up to the club which kind of reminded me of the trip up to Rain or Ghostbar in the Palms Casino. Ok not that extravagant but that's what I remember laughing about. Stepping out you see the ballpark lit and downtown Fresno's Skyline in the background. To the right you enter the club which right off the bat was small but packed. It's a long rectangular setup with the dj in the middle left of the dancefloor and the bar all along the right. Two seperate doorways on the left lead you outside to the balcony and stadium seating. All the way to the back is the VIP area and the restrooms. Ordering drinks was pretty quick considering how busy it was but the bartenders were stingy with the alcohol. Bartenders should be smoking hot and these to put it nicely, weren't. We finally got around to seeing the VIP area and I was glad we didn't get the bottle service. There was nothing special about it and people came and went through as that was how you get access to the restroom. Once it got stuffy we were able to go outside and enjoy the view. Lots of seating areas which was great to catch your breathe and socialize. There was a great mix of people and everyone seemed to be having a great time. No fights and no rude people. Even the bouncers were cool. I will say the music was hit and miss. It was a mix of top 40, hip-hop, electro house and mashups. A lot of the hip hop was just stuff we had never heard. Here we had people from Silicon Valley, The OC and Fresno and we were all like wtf is this garbage. They have TVs throughout but instead of playing MTV's I'm 16 and Pregnant they should be playing music videos that go along with the music. When it was time to go I was shocked at how cheap my tab was. Yay for that! Walking out you go back to the reality of how dead downtown is. Of course there was a Fresno PD van parked right outside in the middle of the street. Kind of reminded me of San Jose PD barricades on Santa Clara Street but since there is so much more going on its not as noticeable. But we had no problems with Fresno PD. All in all we had a good time. One of the girls had such a great time, an emergency stop on 180 was necessary to vomit. I can see where there is room for improvement but it's a step in the right direction. I am glad that a promoter is putting faith in Fresno and especially downtown Fresno. C'mon Fresno get down here. Overall, the sound quality is good. I am a club sound engineer and have no complaints. There are no speakers pointing to near the bar, so you can expect it to be quieter although that also results in muffled lyrics. For full experience, dance in front of the lighting truss. There is a lot of VIP seating, including one area above the dance floor. I didn't go into VIP areas, but I didn't see dedicated speakers for them and so the music is likely quieter there. Lights are moving 3x3 LED matrix heads. They have enough of them. For the right music, they can become strobes. I love strobes! They have enough bartenders to keep your waiting time to a minimum. Demographics trended toward younger women of whom there was no shortage. :) Special thanks to security. They mopped drink spills very quickly. That is always appreciated. Overall, I plan to bring my dance partner here another time even though I live 200+ miles away. P.S. At the end of that particular night, they switched into full-on rave mode. It made it special. :)
