THE MOST FILTHY AND UNORGANIZED HOSPITAL IVE EVER BEEN IN MY LIFE. We've been here for 3 hours for my grandmother to be seen for a torn epithelium. This is the only hospital within 100 miles that has a ophthalmologist on call and they will not call him. The ER nurses and doctors are too busy talking about their latest snap chat stories and gossiping about other people's children on Facebook to be bothered by patients. ALL OF THEM HAVE THEIR PHONES OUT. IN THE ER!!!!!! They refuse to call doctors that are on call, and I even had a nurse stand up and straight up walk away from me when I asked for an update. This place screwed up my breast screening and it that wasn't bad enough, they kept sending letters to my home advertising their breast center on the outside of the envelope so everyone in the neighborhood knows that you have gone there and tries to guess if you have breast cancer. No one should know why I went to Providence Hospital. This is a violation of HIPPA. I had to hide my mail until I could shred it. This is nothing more than a money maker for them. Nasty dirty place. Do a walk through before you agree with your doctor to be admitted to this dump. If you have issues check out a REAL cancer center. read more

This hospital is the most disgusting dirty hospital I have ever seen. It doesn't matter what time of day the bathrooms are just gross. The windows, walls floors are dirty. Don't even get me started on the cafeteria . It's a shame that they take no pride in this place. Also the disorganized way they run things is atrocious. My husband and I were here at the hospital on March 25th. He had lab work so we went to the lab. When we got their we took a number and had a seat. When they called his number I asked the lady could I go back with my husband and she told me no to have a seat. Honestly I didn't understand why I couldn't be with my husband. There were to ladies one older women and one younger lady. The older lady was the one who told me no. Her name tag was turned around so I couldn't see her name. I like Providence because it's close. My wife will not go to Providence because they mis-diagnosed her for flu when she had C-diff and she almost died from it. She went to another hosp. in town to be treated. I have been using Prov. for about 18 years now. I have always received good care and good staff. My only complaint is the dirty gowns that they give you to put on during exams and surgery. I've been to X-ray, C-scans, two surgeries, colonoscopys, endoscopys, and every time, I was given a gown to put on that smelled like it has never been washed. Body odor smell was almost unbearable each time. I have requested a different gown before and the replacement gown smelled just as bad. If they are washing the gowns, they are not using soap or bleach. How is wearing a gown that others wore for a colonoscopy or any surgery, considered sanitary or safe? read more

I spent 5 hours in the waiting room, only to be taken back where I could listen to the nurses talk about their careers, where to find good, high paying gravy jobs, and how much they didn't like working for Providence. Then they basically told me I wasn't dying and to see a Dr tomorrow, after 2 and half more hours. This used to be the best hospital in the area. I will never, ever go back here. Providence Hospice Covenant Care 11th Floor, Mobile Alabama. Is the "BEST" medical staff you can possibly have. I know first hand. I was there off and on with my Father and Mother and they gave them the very best treatment. Loving, caring, gentle, whatever they wanted and needed they got taken care of. The nurses are the "BEST". They prepared us for the end and our parents as well. They helped us through everyday. It was amazing to have my parents in such great hands at the end of their journey. Very, very, very very grateful they were both able to be in the care of these awesome nurses, social worker and medical staff, Dr. Dill (Fantastic Doctor, knows his stuff 5 Stars), Patrice, Kim, Michelle, Doug, I know the faces and cant think of the names, to many to list on 11th floor. Back of Head trama at cottagehill park tennis courts. Paramedics brought me to Providence ER and rolled me in. Layed there..Finally a NP asked me a few questions..layed there. No exam at all. Didnt even look at the back of my head..later the Paramedic was told to put me in wheelchair and rolled me to waiting room. My wife was getting angry..Sat there with head in hands slumped over. Waited. Wife was getting ready to drive me to USA ER Truma Ct when they got me and asked me some questions..I tried to ask a question but the person was rude and short with me..Waited. Finally rolled me back to get a CT of head and neck..Still no Dr exam..Rolled me back, got wife to bring me outside.Waited. NP came out, wondered why I wasnt in a room. 8 asked her why I havent seen a Dr and asked her is this how they treat all head injuries? Explained they were busy..Yea. Told me CT was good, talked a few minutes with concussion protocal, my wife put me in my car and took me home. Friday morning my wife called my personal Dr. he said come in immediately. Full exam. Read CT. On back of head injury good. Note: found a small are on 3rd vertabre, no cancer in patients pass, ck on it in 6 months!. Dr couldnt believe they didnt tell us. Another follow ip with my Dr June 5, anothet CT scan in 3 months. I will never go to Providence ET again.. read more

I took a horrible fall at home on Monday April 5. I am 63 years old and the pain in right shoulder was excruciating. Fortunately my 11 year old granddaughter was there and able to call an ambulance. I was transported to Providence ER where I lay on a stretcher for 15 minutes in front of the nurses station. Not one nurse spoke to me. I was in horrible pain. After about 20 minutes a male nurse that had been on the phone and/or complaining loudly this whole time from behind the nurses station came around me and grabbed my right arm to put a wrist band on. I told him to please don't touch my right arm because I was in so much pain. He just snapped something back at me and told the medics to put me out in the waiting room. I was left in the waiting room for about 35 to 40 minutes before I got an X-ray. Turns out I had a fracture of my greater turborosity of my humerus (broken right shoulder). If this is how Providence treats their senior citizens, I would hate to see how they treat others. During the time I was in the waiting room, the nurse at the front desks seems to take perverse happiness being rude and condescending to everyone who entered the ER. The whole experience was traumatic and I will be filing more complaints. read more

I am grading the ER/Emergency and don't know about other parts of the hospital.. but this ER is truly awful and needs to be closed or at least investigated by some regulatory groups. I have been here a few times with my boyfriend and also his mother, and have never had a pleasant experience. The first issue greets you on arrival where people are allowed to harass incoming patients and any family that bring them. There doesn't seem to be any security presence and if they are there, they certainly don't care.. Next there is the triage nurse. Tonight 3/26 was actually the second time in recent times that my boyfriend has gone to the ER. The first time he went (for a gashed leg), he made a point of noting that the triage nurse was so mean, and horrible, but at least the physicians that time were pleasant and kinder once he was treated. This time, he once again got triaged by the same nurse. He actually had a broken fibula and was in a lot of pain. The Nurse once again was mean, and this time literally kicked his broken leg (accidentally walking past), making him cry out in a huge amount of pain. Did the nurse apologize or care.. no.. When he eventually got through to treatment. He didn't get to see an actual physician. An X-ray technician informed him his leg was broken (not a physician) and he was treated by a student physician's assistant. He was given a bit of Norco, and some crutches, but due to other conditions and the pain, was not able to actually use them, and nobody cared that he literally had no way of taking care of himself.. Despite Medicare/insurance, the hospital dumped himself outside in a wheelchair (which again he could not leave without a lot of pain) and washed their hands of him. So.. of course, I manage to drive him home, but his leg is still badly broken, and not really treated, and not seen by an actual doctor.. He cannot take care of himself, and I/his family cannot help him either. It is quickly evident that we have to get an ambulance again to take him to an ER that will actually take care of him, and an ambulance came and took him to USA.. there actually treated him. I hope it really is just the ER and maybe very few individuals like this triage nurse that are the problem. As above, there is actually some kindness and compassion, once you get back in the treatment area, if you are lucky.. but as tonight, there may be staffing issues and a definite lack of security. From multiple experiences, I would never go there again willingly. Taking a trip across Mobile to USA is definitely worth it, and I can only guess that Infirmary is similarly much better than Providence. read more

My last visit to Providence Hospital, West Mobile, AL was a nightmare. I went in at 3:30 on March 21, 2019. I had a kidney stone and was in terrible pain. The triage nurse saw me right away and the CT scan was done in a timely manner. But the method by which they called people back to see the doctor for treatment was chaos. It did not matter when you got there, they were calling people back who had not waited as long as I had to (7 hours to be exact!). Your facility is lucky I did not have kidney damage due this wait. A review of their procedures needs to be done immediately before you have serious problems. read more

Dr. Emilie Hallford has been an absolute blessing in my life. I've only been seeing her for a short time, but her impact has been immeasurable. She has enabled me to take a 180 degree turn with my physical and mental health and I'm eternally grateful. Also, Dr. Anna Seay(on call)was kind enough to call in medication on a Saturday as I was unable to see a physician at the time. I've never been happier with a group of physicians in my life! My Dad was on the 11th floor. Very kind & giving people. Exceptional volunteers that sit & read to patients. My Dad was not alone, which was a blessing while I was away. My mother recently passed away at 74 from end-stage COPD. What was devastatingly horrible is that she UNNECESSARILY passed away in a holding area of the ED by herself, because the hospital would not allow her family in to be with her in her final hours. My mother did not have Covid-19 or any symptoms of Covid-19 other than shortness of breath, which was related to her history of long standing COPD. My mother refused a COVID test because she did not have Covid, so the hospital refused her any visitors. Is this a compassionate community based hospital or a new age prison ??? Why did this hospital get to decide who can be with a person in their final hours because she refused a test (which she has the right to do)??? Compassion is now a thing of the past and Providence hospital is on the cutting edge of the new face of healthcare. You see not only did my mother pass away alone, but she was mistreated as she lay there dying. My mother had called my sister in another state as she was in her final hours, but my sister was not near her phone and the call went to voicemail. My mother thought she left my sister a message and hung up, but she did not hang up and set the phone on her bed and it recorded the next 5 minutes of her life. You see, a nurse came in during that 5 minutes and was cruel to my mother and we have it RECORDED, no lie. This nurse asked her, in a harsh, rushed tone, what she wanted and she said she was hot and wanted an ice pack and some water. The nurse actually told her he was busy and would TRY to get to "it" soon. Then the nurse noticed the phone on the bed and the screen said my sister name and then the phone hung up. I am so devastated that my mother had to die alone with only a hard, cold nurse to deny her comfort and water !!! I guess he felt comfortable knowing that "no one would know" how he was acting to a helpless, dying old lady. There is a word for that it is called EVIL. I will NEVER have another procedure done in this hospital again, in Mobile, AL. I was scheduled at noon to have a kidney stone lasered. I was in so much pain my whole body shook and my BP shot up. I was there at 10:00 as instructed. They took me to the pre-op room at 11:00 and the nurses call button didn't work. I laid there for 3 hours in mortal pain, crying and begging for someone to help me. I know the nurses could hear me because their station was right outside my room. NO ONE came to help me. I had to watch the hallway and wave someone in as they passed by. No one bothered to explain why it was taking so long, nor did they tell my brother who was in the waiting room. I had to ask them to go tell him why it was taking so long and to go get something to eat because he is a diabetic. I could hear the staff down the hall laughing and having a good time, while I was laying there racked with pain and begging for help. I could go on but I'll stop here by just saying, stay away from this hospital!!! read more

I arrived at providence hospital via ambulance in november 2020, suffering with covid. My blood pressure kept dropping, i had shortness of breath, and was in a lot of pain. I was put on an IV by gravity, and ended up clamping it off myself because no one came when I called to say it was done. The nurses were so rude that I cried. Before I left, the last nurse ripped my IV by the tegaderm in one yank, causing a lot of bleeding and bruising at the site. It was the worst experience. On top of being filthy, the nurses had filthy attitudes. To be in such a scary situation, some compassion or kindness would have helped a lot. The doctor was the only comforting staff member I saw. 10/10 do not recommend this hospital!! read more

My father has been hospitalized at Providence since 9/29/2020 and its probably been the absolute worst experience ever! The nursing staff on the 10th floor has been nothing but amazing but the staff physicians are not very forthcoming with information and the administrative staff is absolutely awful! They will not speak with you directly or return phone calls. Not to mention he caught staph and I wasn't aware for 3 days that he had it. He is hallucinating and very confused. They only want 1 family member to visit but have zero compassion for someone who is their caregiver has to work, Someone from their "patient experience" team went so far as to come to my father's room with a security guard to remove my sister just 3 hours after she was allowed in. Once I finally get my father out of there, I will never choose this hospitals services for anything! read more

A laminectomy was conducted on me at Providence Hospital on the afternoon of January 9, 2020. I was discharged the afternoon of the 10th. At 1:30 am on 11th I was in so much pain, I contemplated hurting myself to get the pain to stop. My girlfriend called an ambulance and had me transported to Providence ER, where with out examining me, I was accused of being a drug addict, just trying to obtain more drugs. The doctor told me I would not be admitted. Thank god for girl friends, she informed the doctor that the lead story on every channel today would be, how they threw a injured vet out of their hospital. Then and only then did they contact the surgical team that performed the procedure. When the surgeon arrived, he ordered a MRI, I believe just to cover his ass. The MRI tech came in and apparently he was upset that he was called in on a Saturday. I believe he took his cue from the ER staff, because I have never been treated as roughly as I was during this procedure. The pain was so intense I believe I lost consciousness. At one point the tech told me if I didn't stop screaming, he would not complete the MRI. When I regained my faculties I found myself being prepped for a second surgery. They had discovered that the first surgery had cause my spinal cavity to fill with fluid and it was applying pressure on my entire spinal cord. I spent the next three days in recovery with a drain tube in my incision. If I found myself going into cardiac arrest in the lobby of Providence Hospital, I would call for an ambulance to get me to another hospital. read more

My husband was brought to Providence Hospital due to an accident and was sent to the floor with an elevated blood pressure during the night his blood pressure continued to rise until he was at stroke level he was never transferred to another floor for closer monitoring and I sat There on pins and needles waiting for a quicker response we where then discharged prematurely and ended back in less than 24 the hospitalist who took over his care on readmission from the start of the readmission talked about how poorly the care was here... what an awful thing to here from a doctor I tried to get him transferred but to no avail because guess what the doctor who could do the transfer is the one telling me to sign out ama and run to. a different hospital because the ortho group was Not performing the job they should when I went to the nurse manager the doctor was removed from our case but I am now left with a scared feeling about care. please If you love your family member do not bring them here very unprofessional staff who do not believe or trust in the care being provided here. what in the world was the care like during the pandemic when no one was allowed in to check on our families care if this is what's being noticed now... doctors who scare people who are already going through enough. is this truly where healthcare has gone for this facility that I once loved and trusted. Do Not Come Here. And by the way the doctor who said get your husband out of this place also had the power to send him to another hospital but you would instruct me to sign him out ama leaving us responsible for the bill to get better care that you said your facility was not providing but wanted to throw the rock and hide your hand By us signing out to get the care he deserved... pathetic. read more

Worst place to go for the ER; took a pregnant girl there who had stomach pains, waited there from 7 pm - 2 am. She could have lost the baby if the problem was very serious. Took my grandmother there to get a check on her x-ray; the "questionable" doctor walked in (looked as though he was under the influence of something) after 4 - 5 hours of waiting and told her "it was just a gas bubble"; it was CANCER ..... so no thank you Providence, I will NEVER give you my business ..... read more

My recent experience in the ER was completely unacceptable. I was taken there by ambulance because it was the closest facility, but it turned out the level of care given was atrocious and inappropriate for my condition. Next time I'll know to go somewhere else. About three years ago I was taken by ambulance from planet fitness after I passed out, had a heart rate of 187, and a blood pressure of 100/0. I thought I was going to die. My EKG in the ambulance came out fine, but I was still so weak I could not move. When I arrived at providence's ER they left me in waiting room for 45 minutes... I was sitting there in and out of consciousness for 45 minutes. I had a minor heat stroke along with hyperventilation and that can be serious. This was caused by a pre-workout supplement I took before I worked out, and they failed to take that into consideration. read more

I wouldn't take my dog here for help. I am a survivor of the deadly flesh eating bacteria called necrotizing faciitis. It affected my knee to my thigh. I can walk now, but not far, and I can stand for about 5 minutes on my own. I am capable of my own care. However when I got up this morning and put weight on that leg, it felt like muscles were tearing apart in my thigh. This continue even after my morning and afternoon dose of 10mg percocet and 10mg dose of flexeril. I couldn't walk because of the acute pain. So, I decided it was time to go to the hospital for help. I was sent to the fast track and a doppler was done to rule out a blood clot, which it did. So, I was given a 5mg percocet and 10mg flexeril. Did I feel better than when I arrived? Absolutely NOT. The nurse practitioner I saw said a MD would probably say and do the same thing. REALLY???? Call me stupid, but in my 53 years of life, I have always felt better and at least had blood drawn to rule out infection. Especially surviving the bacteria I had! Something happened to me to cause me not to be able to walk. All possible illnesses were not checked for. It was like a drive thru hospital. My pain level wasn't lowered, and I was told I probably sprained my leg! Doing what, playing volleyball? I can't play sports, run, swim or do anything to sprain my thigh! I have never been to a hospital where there was such incompetence and lack of concern. read more

Providence Hospital literally killed my significant other, and many other I've since heard about. They do not care about your health. I got to sit helplessly for 11 days and watch the circus this place is while they neglected him. I have photo evidence that the last four days of his life they did not even bother to bathe nor adjust his position even though he had been on life support for 9 of the 11 days he was there. When he went into cardiac arrest because of his low blood count, Which had not been checked since he got there even though he had a documented history of a bleeding ulcer and having low blood as a result,he did not even have an IV line present for them to administer medication during or after the CPR that was administered. Throughout the duration of his stay I was only provided a hard folding chair to sit in even though every other patient on the floor had a recliner in their room for their spouse/family to sit or sleep comfortably. I am appalled at the treatment he and I both received. Do not go here if you or your loved one would like to live. You may never leave depending on whether the staff would like to do their job that day or not. The owners of this facility should be ashamed of themselves for allowing the neglect that is present here. read more

I had an accident got cut above the eye.I just moved to Mobile wow what a great Emergency Room. It was fast and very nice staff. They really care about there patients. I was there a total of 1 hour and they put 4 stitches in and out I went. I have never seen a better run hospital. Than to the great staff. read more

One of the WORST hospitals I've ever had the misfortune to go to for an emergency. I suffer from several disabling conditions that cause my blood pressure to be "uncontrolled". With a pressure reading of 189/100 and pain shooting down my left arm (possible stroke warning for women), they left me to sit for 3 hours. Not one nurse took the time to read my admitting chart. Only when I decided to leave the facility did they say anything. Note: there was no one else in the ER, at the time of my admittance. read more

Worst ER experience of my life. My girlfriend has had severe stomach cramps for days now. We finally went to the ER at Providence and after pocking and prodding at her they decided that there wasn't any real problems and prescribed her meds. Of course she told them before hand that she takes prescription xanex for her anxiety however the meds they gave her don't work with the meds she taking already. The next day with her stomach pains worsening she went to the Urgent Care Center. They asked if they ran a CT scan on her and after she told them that Providence didn't they told her that they should have and sent her back there to have one done. We've been here for near 8 hours and they've called her back once to run the test they did just the day before and are basically refusing to do the CT scan. There are several other people here that have been here for hours and the staff has been very unpleasant and have lied to everyone that's asked when they were next. One old man in a wheel chair asked, they said he was next and an hour later they still hadn't called him. And an hour before him they told her she was next. It's been utterly miserable up in here and I will never come back nor will I ever bring a family member here. read more

I have been blessed to travel to over sixty countries and have observed and been a patient or had a family member treated in these facilities. My family and I have received treatment at Providence many times for various ailments, most recently in January 2017 for gall bladder surgery and this past week for gastroenteritis. 84 y/o mother in hospital for six days trying to find out from where she's bleeding. Not happy w/one of her docs and asked to make a change. Hospitalist said we couldn't change. Well yes we could and did. Why say this if not true?! They did egd and discovered ulcers. Doc ordered colonoscopy, ordered clear liquids and gave first bottle of prep. Mom had a reaction to prep and nurse wanted to argue that her face, neck and chest were red and hot because she was wearing rouge! At day six in the hospital?! It took a while to convince the nurse who had spent a total of ten minutes one day that this wasn't how Mom looked before the prep. Nurse called doc who prescribed benedryl. They withheld food but forgot to give her second dose of prep. Now instead of having results of the test today we may not even get the test today. Instead of possibly going home this weekend, we're here for god knows how long. And now w/an 84 year old who's thirsty and hungry and doesn't know when she can eat again! This place sucks! It is the closest hospital but unless you are dying I suggest you drive to Mobile Infirmary. read more

I was a patient for knee surgery. Four days after returning home, my knee was badly infedted. No surprise there. it's the filthiest hospital I've ever been a patient in. I was left in my own feces.which was diarrhea induced by massive doses of antibiotics. Barthrooms in patients rooms were unsanitary with non functioning plumbing for up to nine hours at a time.Meanwhile, soiled paper was left in free thorow or in trash can. for 2-3 days. Nurses suggested I get on incontincy meds. My last night there I gave up. and fell asleep around midnight. I was nude, using whatver cloth I could find that was the least bit dry. My hair a d whole body were drenched with god knows what. read more

Do not go to this emergency room if you are expecting emergent care. You are treated as a burden by the staff. Sat for HOURS with severe abdominal pain and vomiting. Was promised nausea medication during triage, never delivered. Requested at least 3 times. Totally ignored. Had to go outside to throw up and lay down on a bench. Finally had to leave because I was so sick. No compassion or concern from any of the staff. They look right through you. read more
