I've been wanting a new tattoo for a while and my bf and I wanted a matching concept without the tattoos being completely identical. We reached out to Fuzz and he was happy to work on the designs! He was very pleasant and easy to work with throughout the planning process. When it was tattoo day, we arrived at the shop. It's a super clean space and I love how each artist has their personal flairs added to their areas. Fuzz greeted us and showed us the designs which we loved. He was friendly and professional throughout the whole process and great about checking in to make sure we were feeling well and giving a break when needed. He set up his iPad to have movies on which was a nice distraction while under the tattoo gun. We chatted with a few other artists that came up to check out our works in progress. So, apparently tattoo etiquette is to contact a tattoo artist, agree on a piece/price, and then prepare for that appointment. Luckily, there was someone available when I showed up who was willing to do some work. I had a simple design, wouldn't take more than 30 minutes, so I got someone to get their ink gun ready and boom! Done! So, I showed up, found someone available, agreed on how big, how much, got it ready, did it, and it all took about 2 hours. Price was fine, I also tipped. The place is really cool, the vibe is pretty good too. It is for sure a clean environment. I recommend following the longer process for getting a tattoo though, not just a walk in. read more

I've gotten several large black & grey realism pieces done by Ammany (@ammanyexchange on Instagram), and her ability to come up with a design and bring it to life on your skin is absolutely amazing. Her attention to detail and artistic ability is unlike anyone else I've come across! I've also gotten work done by Fuzz (@fuzzimusgrime on Instagram) and he just as GREAT; however, a much different style than Ammany. His work showcases large, bright characters with bright colors, and I LOVE it as well. Hoffa is my guy! I have used Ascension Tattoo for all of my major art pieces. These guys know what it takes to provide quality customer service, develop purely custom pieces, and set expectations from the first meeting. I am a huge fan of this shop because the entire experience feels professional. I have been in some shops that feel unorganized and less than clean. You DO NOT have to worry about anything with Ascension! I have been working with Hoffa for several years. The process is always consistent. I call in and ask for Hoffa to schedule a consultation. He tells me what time works best for him. I drive over to Orlando and meet with him for about an hour explaining what I am looking to accomplish. We do some measurements of where I want to place the new piece. He asks me to email him some pictures representing what concepts are flowing through my mind. I arrive for my appointment on time and we go over what has been drawn up and ultimately get to work! The shop is open floor plan so you are able to see other patients while being tattooed which is both refreshing and help pass time while working on long pieces. A variety of music is played over the speakers at a decent level to help drown out the sound of several tattoo guns. The entire team at Ascension are friendly and are awesome at making time pass. They will talk if you are in the mood to converse, or will quietly work if you want to listen to music or watch Netflix on your phone. Please know that this is a custom shop that creates customer artwork. They are regularly busy, so please be courteous when booking appointments or walking in for a quick tattoo. read more

Between emails and phone call Jime had something ready when I got there. He even reworked it just to add a tag. I got my first tattoo from Robert (Bobby) Hawley at Ascension last week and I could not have asked for a better experience! At my consult I showed Bobby the design I was looking at and where I wanted it and he helped me finalize the design and colors. He also told me how long it would take and the price and was able to squeeze me in the next day- this was only because he had some cancellations, other then that it would have been a week out so be prepared for that! Like anything good, it is worth the wait. The day of, he walked me through the process, making me feel completely comfortable. After putting the stencil on my arm, he made sure I was completely happy with the placement before starting the permanent ink. He frequently checked in to make sure I was doing alright and honestly we just had a fun conversation for an hour while he worked. When he was done I was absolutely blown away by the final product! He gave me explicit care instructions, wrapped my arm up carefully and offered to give me some free ointment but I had come prepared. He also let me know that I could reach out with any questions and if for any reason it needs to be touched up after healing, the first one is on him. Pro-tips: -there are several different artists at ascension so make sure and do your research a head of time to know whose style you like! Ascension's website has a gallery for each one and you can follow them on instagram. I chose Bobby for his awesome work with watercolor and he is also well know for his roses. -Their website also has a great FAQ section about tattoos in general -Give the shop a call to set up your consult with the artist and be prepared when you go, ie at least have an idea of the design you want to get. - Remember to tip!! For all the people who get tats here and don't give a shout out to their artists on Yelp...lame! After doing quite a bit of researching, talking to people in Orlando, and looking at online portfolios I decided to see if Nik could fit me in at some point. It was my first tattoo and I was looking at a fairly large memorial piece. I went to the shop and he just so happened to be there and we set something up. I also wanted to meet him in person first because I am stuck in someone's chair for an hour plus, whether it be my hair dealer, my nail dealer, or my ink dealer the person better be cool to and someone I can feel like I trust to the degree that I will leave happy (and not in pain....or with an Afro....or with a finger chopped off.....etc) That being said he worked with my design idea, steered me clear of what wouldn't look good, put up with me when I nearly blacked out from getting my nerves in a bunch, and put up with me for four hours while he did his art and listened to me yammer on about assorted b.s. When he was done I really couldn't believe how awesome it came out.....like so beautiful I wanted to cry right there. I've only had the tat a short time and I get stopped on the street by people wanting to know who did the work. I also have not had any kind of complications afterward either. So yeah, when I get another tat, which of course is only a matter of time, I know who I will go see, no question. Word to the wise. don't just walk in and expect someone to jump right to it for you. All of the dudes in here do awesome work and that means that they are booked well in advance. I want to begin by stating that I do not consider myself a tattoo "connoisseur" by any means. However, Ascension stands out above any other tattoo shop in the Orlando area. This might be a little obvious, but if you are thinking about getting a tattoo, definitely spend the time to do some "research." The term "research" might be loosely thrown around, but do this favor for yourself - do not look only at the art, but take a look at the shop and artists as well (this is probably why you're on Yelp). With that being said, Ascension has a well-designed and very professional website. This should be one of the many indicators that a shop takes this type of work seriously. The shop itself is by far one of the most eclectic tattoo shops I've seen. Firstly, there aren't panels and hanging frames of flash - again, another indicator that the artists working there are passionate about tattoos being an art rather than a business. Very well put together shop. The couple of times that I was at the shop, I had the opportunity to see some of the ongoing work being done by the various artists there. Really skilled group of guys. I have a decent-sized chest piece done by Ant. His work is amazing, but again, do the research and take a look at each artist's digital portfolio that is available on the website. In addition, every artists that I've interacted with was super friendly. Extremely happy so far with the work; I'm due to go back to the shop to get the chest piece finished, but I will definitely continue to get my tattoos from Ascension for as long as I am here in Orlando. read more

I really wanted to like this place but sadly I had a not so great experience. I was shopping around for tattoo artist in the area because I am new here and found this place off of good reviews. I looked up on their website and it states to email their artists to get a fast response, consult appointment scheduling and availability. I sent an email to three diffident artists with a style I wanted and received no response for about 3 days. One of the artists briefly responded on day 3 but there was no follow-up. I showed him pictures of the sleeve I wanted but I got no feedback. I called the shop to book a consultation for my sleeve and future tattoos and all of the artists I was interested were out of town or not in the shop and was told to call a different day. Called again about 3 more times on three different days and all of these artists I was interested in were not available to talk to for another week. I understand advanced bookings but there was no one to talk to for even booking a consult a month in advance. I felt like there was no regard for my business as a customer. I am usually pretty patient and understanding with businesses if they are busy and full of appointments but I felt like the artists were ignoring my requests for consults. I understand that some artist have their own style of tattooing but at least let your customers know that. I am a bit disappointed with this service because I tip well for awesome customer service and come in for repeat work if I like the shop. I hope this review helps out to understand your customer base and to be honest with what you are able to provide. read more

Jime Litwalk is amazing!!! Easy to work with, fun to chill with, extremely creative, and always does outstanding work. My husband and I had tattoos done by him yesterday. He went out of his way for both of us, stayed late to complete the work, and added extras. Both of us love our tattoos! We will definitely be back for more. As someone who likes to plan and do their research before doing something like getting a tattoo, I was pretty nervous and unsure if I wanted to go through with getting one when I was brought to ascension by my boyfriend as a birthday surprise. BEWARE! I wish I could give zero Stars. I contact us into and tattoo in regards to having a memorial tattoo done for my husband who had passed away. I selected their Studio because their website stated that they would prepare a rough draft and provide it and then make revisions as necessary. It was important to me to have a custom piece done, I'd have time to really tweak it and make it perfect before putting it on my body. I was asked to come in for a consultation, so I drove across town for that at my scheduled appointment time. When I arrived at Discover the person I had an appointment with was in the middle of tattooing someone else, and the consultation I had scheduled involved only request for a deposit for the drawing. I paid the deposit. I never received anything. No drawing, no rough draft, no communication whatsoever. After following up multiple times prior to the appointment date, I was finally informed that only the owner draws in advance and I wouldn't be receiving the drawing I paid a deposit for. If you care about custom work and having time to make sure the pieces perfect before it goes on your body forever, about good communication, and about honest business practices stay away from the studio! read more

Not overly impressed with this place, which was disappointing after so many reviews of it being so great. I'm in the military and have gotten ALOT of ink at many shops, by many artists, so I have somewhat of a base to go off of. Called a few times to make an appt with someone for a significant American Traditional full back piece and had a hard time getting someone to commit to a time to come in for a consult, when I decided to finally walk-in to get a small piece (to test the place to see if I wanted to come back) and just talk to an artist, nobody seemed too interested to consult (again, on a FULL back piece! Blank canvas! Who wouldn't want to do that?!?), which was disappointing. I did end up walking out with some nice ink on my forearm but it was done by a guest artist (who frickin rocks!) that had a free 45 min. I generally get some small random thing just to see if the shop is a place I'd like to go back to and I won't go back. You gotta get a good vibe so those vibes go into some awesome ink on your bod! Yeah, I didn't get that vibe from this place.. On a different note.. The shop was uber clean and I did notice the stations each had their own artists style which I think is key since the artist personality goes into your skin. About 8 months ago, I went to Ascension Tattoo for a medium sized piece on my back (about 8 inches in diameter) between my shoulder blades. I went in for a consult with Zac, knowing the basic concepts I wanted incorporated, but not really knowing how to put it together. Based on my loose description, he managed to come up with a unique tattoo design that incorporated all my main ideas - colorful artwork, intricate lines, depth and shading. We had 4 sessions ranging from 1-3 hours each. It was amazing! In all my sessions there I got to watch the other artists and everything I saw was impressive. They are friendly, respectful, and very talented. It was fun to hang out at the shop and my tattoo gets tons of positive feedback. The line work is detailed and precise, the colors are vivid, and it was a very relaxed but professional setting. I felt like I could take a break when needed to stretch out or drink water.
