An amazing local tattoo shop with super talented artists. Came here today to get something little done on my leg. Most of the time they require you to have a set appointment with your specific artist but on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday they offer walk ins from 12-8pm. That being said if you are there for a walk-in spot make sure you get there early so that you are more likely to get seen. We were there 5 mins before opening and we were already 5th in line to give u guys a good idea. We had Shane work on our tattoos and he was super professional and patient with us. He made sure that the tattoo was exactly what we wanted and the tattoo turned out even better then what we originally had in mind. I definitely recommend this shop for whoever is looking to get there next piece done! **Artist: Aaron Murray The talent and artistry is there. I found it hard to get into contact with the artist. Finally, I established a date and was given a quote of $60 to $80 (face to face). My friend received her tattoo it took 30 minutes tops and was a little larger than a quarter I then received my tattoo (same.) He then told us it would be $100 each. I didn't leave a tip and called it even. I find it hard to believe 30 minutes for each tattoo was worth $100 for each of us. Especially considering his quote. I felt taken advantage of. I even had another appointment scheduled for a different piece of work. I briefly discussed my concept and he seemed disinterested. I felt like he was patronizing me. I love the work of the artist but I can't bring myself to trust him with another piece of permanent artwork. It's very disappointing to see someone so talented be so shady. Update: after being confronted about the situation he lied to my husband and myself. When I was given the initial quote he NEVER mentioned a house minimum and when I came in for my tattoo 11/28 he never told me they had changed the house minimum. After my tattoo he NEVER mentioned a touch up of any kind. He took my next scheduled tattoo off his calendar which is truly a relief. Watch out for this one. read more

Me and the boyfriend decided randomly to head down to Orlando and go to Disney for the day this past weekend. When we woke up Saturday morning, we had realized that Disney was packed so we decided hey, let's just get tattoos instead. Because that's totally a reasonable alternative, right? I had suggested going to Hart and Huntington but then I realized I didn't want to spend my life savings on one tattoo (my point is is that they're crazy expensive). Then I saw how awesomely rated Rise Above was. I checked the website to make sure they took walk-ins, and they did! So we waited for 2 o'clock to come around (that's what time they had listed for when they open). We walked fully expecting to be turned away due to no availability, especially since both of were wanting work done. But to my surprise we were told that Von (Vaughn? idk the spelling) could take both of us around 4. So we emailed him what we both wanted and the wait began. When we showed up to get them done, he had shown us what he drew up and I was so thoroughly impressed. It was exactly what I pictured and it looked very clean. I'll wrap this up now because it's getting too long. Basically, me and my boyfriend both agreed that this will be our go to shop from now on (but we'll book an appointment next time, walk-in slots seem to fill up fast). Von/Vaughn did an amazing job and he was pretty cool throughout the whole process. I think we got more than what we paid for and it was a great experience. At long last, I decided to go for my first sleeve. And I entered into that with a handicap........I had a specific idea, and wanted help to make it a reality. I've been to plenty of shops in my day and I really enjoyed the honesty I got when asking about my idea. They pretty much said, prior to looking at the design inspiration, whether or not they'd be able to do it or not, and that was great. Some people are all about the almighty dollar, and others just strive to create good work, and if they don't feel like they could do it, then them telling me that up front is huge in my book. That being said, my all time favorite group growing up was Enigma, so I wanted a sleeve showcasing their design work from their albums. And it has been great seeing that translate into a sleeve. And it was all due to the imagination of my artist. I simply handed over the CD liner notes from a couple of the albums, and the rest was history. Since technically I've finished my 2nd of 3 sessions, I'm not done, but this review is warranted, even before attending the final one. If you want good work, go here. When it comes to getting ink, there are many decisions that need to be made. Finding an artist, finding their location, and evaluating if the place is clean and professional. When you're new to the area, looking for an artist can be tricky - but thank goodness for social media! Through word of mouth, checking Yelp, Facebook and reviewing photos on Instagram, I was able to meet up wtih Steve Roberts at Rise Above. When I first talkd with him, he asked me important questions about my concept of an abstract pocket watch. (His question, abstract mean different things to different people) He provided me his instagram so I could review some of his work, and that was when I knew he was the guy to do the work for me. I stopped in to meet with him and it consisted of reviewing my concept, him evaluating the ink area and collecting the size, and scheduling the appt. and collecting the deposit. But, what was most impressive walking in was how clean and open the entire facility looked like. Pictures hung on the wall, photo albums and books with each artists designs were neatly setup in the front and easily accessible for people to look through, and a unique ambiance to set an artistic mood. Aaron designed both mine and my husband's lighthouse tattoos and they are awesome. Aaron's designs are bold and bright and I cannot say how much I love them. We got different tattoos but they are a nice nod to one another. Not only are the designs perfect for us but the tattoos look SOOOO good. Scott White is my current go-to guy for all things permanent, but the skill that flows from the machines of the other two guys (Scott Lukacs, Joe Spino) makes me tempted to stray. There isn't much to see here as far as flash on the walls go (the shop is too busy looking badass to have room), but they can draw up anything your little heart can imagine. The BEST part? These guys are actually NICE to you. They leave their attitudes somewhere else and come to the shop ready to help you get something you'll want forever. And I like it. read more

So let me begin by stating that I don't have many tattoos (ok, only one actually), but I've been in my fair share of tattoo shops. Rise Above is easily the cleanest and most professional I've ever been to. The artists work is all TOP NOTCH! I went in a couple of years ago with a simple request: matching tattoos for my wife and I for my birthday gift to her. Scott W. was super helpful and gladly took up the challenge (not much of a challenge, the tattoo was rather simple). He quickly and beautifully completed both tattoos on us and my wife was so thrilled, shes's gone back to him several times. See, she has quite a few tattoos. One of her older ones need a lot of TLC as it wasn't done well to begin with. Scott KILLED the repair job. I mean, it looked like a brand new and totally BETTER tattoo! She was thrilled so much that she asked him to add onto it, fulling out a half-sleeve. Scott designed a beautiful half-sleeve going off of the original and she has one more visit until it's finished. When I was in college, I got a tattoo on my shoulder blade. It was stupid really. A cartoon panda with an apple on its head. It was cute, until I turned 25. And 26. And 27...by 29, I knew it was time to bid the tattoo adieu. After a recommendation from my hair stylist, I decided to book an appointment with Scott Lukacs at Rise Above. (I think it's important to note that the first time I got a tattoo, the pain got to me so much that I dry-heaved.) These guys are real artists. I mean, real artists...everything they do is original. Great walk in tattoo done by Shane. He is an amazing artist. They were super nice there and helpful. The parking situation is a little annoying be careful or you will get towed! Ask the people at the desk if you don't know where to park, there super helpful. Get there early on a Saturday. Walk ins are first come first serve. Don't show up later or eight in the for you will be lucky to get a spot. They won't hesitate to tell you no that's too big of a piece or we won't have time because people were here before you. Probably more important than figuring out what to get a tattoo of and where on my body was finding a good shop with great artists. It was very important to me that the experience itself be very good and that I feel comfortable. I definitely had that at Rise Above. I originally chose Rise Above Tattoo because it was near my area and because of the great reviews listed on yelp. When I did more research, I found Steve Roberts. His work speaks for itself. He is so talented...so I knew he was my guy. I was really nervous because I've been planning this tattoo for a long time and wanted to make sure it was perfect. I had a mental image of what I wanted but every time I go back to get more work done, I am surprised by how badass it looks. It's way better than I had ever imagined and it's not even complete. Aside from the amazing work he does, he's also a really cool guy. We have a similar sense of humor, so I'm usually laughing through the pain. He's very easy to talk to and makes me feel comfortable. In fact, all of the artists at the shop are cool, in what interactions I've had with them during my sessions. All very friendly and down to earth...my kind of people.
