I brought my grandfather in for an appointment today and I had no idea what I was doing. All I knew was that he was complaining about his hearing aids. When we walked in we were greeted by Paula who was friendly and made us feel comfortable right away. We didn't wait long to be called back into the office which was great. As for the appointment, my grandfather only speaks Spanish and Dr. Malan was able to efficiently communicate with him to make him feel comfortable. He was efficient, thorough, and friendly throughout the entire visit. He explained what was going on with my grandfather's hearing aides and provided me with recommendations and guidance. Very complete and professional exam and discussion of hearing aids. I have been to two other hearing aid centers and this is by far the best and most complete service I have had for years. After a hearing test, the doctor updated the software in the hearing aids to make them better than they ever were. They are now much more comfortable and I have much better hearing now. There is no hard selling, only competent service and complete answers to questions I had. And they will follow up with another appointment in 6 months. This hearing center is the best we have been to. My dad has been to several due to his severe heating loss. They got him in within a reasonable amount of time, and the doctor was extremely patient and thorough with him. Their products are great quality, and they have a trial period since they understand that it is hard to get the perfect hearing aid in the first shot sometimes. We have been seeing Dr. Malan for years now. He takes care of our whole family, my daughter since she was a toddler, my father (Grandpa), my husband and I. It was really hard to convince Grandpa he needed hearing aids. For those of us with aging parents, we know how sometimes it can be difficult to convince them to do things like get hearing aids. Their egos can be fragile and often very stubborn. Dr. Malan has a wonderful way of making it "no big deal" and takes all of the fear and unnecessary stigma away. My dad now has hearing aids that work great for him and it has truly changed the quality of all of our lives...no more yelling at Grandpa so he can hear us. It also has been a great way of creating an audiology medical history for our daughter, who has no issues whatsoever, but as she grows into a teenager, we can make sure headphones, etc. are not creating a problem. As for my husband, finally proof that he has great hearing, but selectively blocks me out...common problem for many spouses! The office is super clean and friendly. They always take us on time for our appointments. Easy to get appointments and he comes highly recommended from our doctors. Easy parking, free parking and super easy access from the 118 freeway. They bill insurance for us and when we receive their statements, super easy to read and understand. Also, whenever I have called, someone always answers the phone, no automated voice prompts or voicemail. Dr. Malan also does great charity work, which makes him an even super nice guy. read more

Just returned from my "fitting" appointment with Dr. Malan at Ascent Hearing Center. I rarely take the time to write a review but my experience with Dr. Malan and the receptionist at Ascent Hearing in Simi Valley was so stress-free it deserves the review time. I've been wearing hearing aids for over 6 years. When the aid for my right ear was "misplaced" I was reluctant to drive to the new location for the House Ear Clinic in downtown Los Angeles. I started looking for a local hearing center. I read through the reviews and selected Ascent Hearing Center - they are local and had some excellent reviews. I made a great choice. Dr. Malan was patient and has a good sense of humor and....completed an excellent replacement of the lost hearing aid. It's a great fit, no humming or whistling and the technology has really improved over the last 6 years. Dr. Malan even set up an app on my cell phone for volume and background noise adjustments. I've never written a review but after my appointment yesterday, I knew I had to! I've been to my fair share of audiologists for more than two decades now and never had an experience as great as I did with Dr. Malan. What an awesome guy! I already had hearing aids with me and I was prepared to hear him pitch me another pair to buy but he didn't. He said mine were great and just needed to be re-adjusted to my hearing loss. He never tried to sell me anything, his only concern was to get my hearing aids to the point that I would actually wear them. And I haven't taken them off since! Dr. Malan and his crew have made this the best experience ever. My son came in at the age of 4. Left ear is not working as well as it should. I would find myself having to yell all the time just so he was able to hear me. And it killed me because yelling is all I could do. So he thought I was always mad at him. Anywho, after multiple ear infections and tests... I opted to get tubes put in and we ended up at ascent. He now has his big boy hearing aid and lives it!!! His favorite colors and they gave us a small backpack with all the things he'll need, plus so many batteries. Annnnd a stuffed tiger with hearing aids. My son loves him. I couldn't have asked for a better doctor. His staff and himself went above and beyond to make my son comfortable with the whole situation and he actually loves going to the appointments. Had an appointment today for ear wax removal, called to confirm and to ask how much I would be paying and the women on the phone told me $30 so I asked how much it would be with my insurance and she said it would be cheaper to not use my insurance which made no sense, told her I have a PPO and my co pays are usually $5 and she said to not use my insurance and just pay $30 which was completely ridiculous. I'm pretty sure she didn't know what she was talking about and just didn't wanna file the paper work for the insurance so I didn't go in cause I wanted to avoid the frustration. Oh well. read more
