I was at Helicon Brewing yesterday for the Helicon Open 2019 Pinball tournament (which ran for four days, and I was there each day as a tournament player (didn't win any money or a trophy, but I had a ton of fun!)), and the food truck on location for Sunday was Ash & Kris Kitchen. This was my first time trying this truck, and they serve Levantine (Middle Eastern style food from the Levant region) food. I enjoyed meeting the owner, Ashraf, "Ash," and we struck up some good conversation while he cooked my food. I had the Falafel plate, which is served over rice (the rice was very good by the way, not just a typical bland white rice, but this rice had a very nice flavour), and included lettuce, tomato, Tzatziki sauce, and stuffed grape leaves. I also had the Baba Ghounosh (Moutabel) eggplant dip, which was served with local pitas from Pitaland Bakery in the South Hills, and it was also very good. I enjoyed my lunch, and I would definitely eat this food again, or maybe try some of the other choices on the menu next time I see this truck in the area ... Cheers! P.S. I deducted one star, because I felt my platter should have had a few pickles, pickled turnips, or olives on the side (but I still enjoyed it very much)!

Their food truck comes to my business complex 1-2 times monthly. I love their baklava it is much larger than I am used to but equally good. The chicken and rice is very delicious. Today I had their gyro but I prefer the gyro with no pita so its more or less a salad. If you ask for no pita, they will give you lettuce, tomato, onions with the gyro meat on top and gyro sauce on the side. Their gyro meat is not shaved as most gyro meat is, it is in cubes as pictured in my review. I thought it was strange at first as it was the first time I had the cubes but now I prefer them! You can taste the meat so much better with cubes and it is delicious. I guess the first reviewer had a bad batch or not sure but my gyro meat has always been thoroughly cooked and tender. This is one of the better food trucks in Pittsburgh area. It is $8 for gyros but well worth it and the man working the truck is friendly/nice. I am always amazed he works the truck by himself and still manages to get all orders in less than 10 mins.

No call / no show for scheduled date. Would not return calls / messages after the fact. Not a reliable option.

Wow! What a great sandwich!…read more My wife and I visited Pittsburgh for the first time on July 30th, 2026. This is gonna sound crazy, but we stopped in for a sandwich at 9:00 a.m.!!! They've been around since 1933 and when you walk in you can feel the history. The walls are covered with painted caricatures of famous locals. This place is an institution. My wife and I sat at the counter and ordered a roast beef sandwich. All sandwiches come topped with tomatoes, coleslaw, and french fries. Yes, you read that correctly, they pile fresh cut fries onto all their sandwiches! The sandwich was massive and delicious! We are so happy we sought this place out and you will be too! Seek it out!

There was no line when we arrived, yet the wait for our food was surprisingly long, and service throughout the meal wasn't particularly attentive. I ordered the pastrami and cheese, and, the sandwich itself was excellent. The pastrami was moist and flavorful, and the coleslaw was easily another highlight--fresh, crisp, and really good. The fries, however, were a bit soggy and didn't do much for me. I was also surprised to find a piece of plastic wrap in my sandwich, which was definitely concerning. Also the sandwich is so loaded that it quickly soaks through the parchment paper. A tray or plate would make the experience much less messy. Glad I got to try such an iconic Pittsburgh spot, and the pastrami lived up to the hype, but the service and a few details kept it from being the experience I was hoping for.

My daughter and I went to this establishment today to buy milkshakes for our employee's for 'Staff…read moreAppreciation Day'. We chose to go here instead of making the drive to Chick Fil A on McKnight Road for milkshakes. My daughter & I noticed 1 worker handling food with no gloves on, pulling her hair back to a bun then proceeded to handle the food without 1. Not washing her hands after she handled the food and 2. not putting gloves on to handle the food. I politely asked the employee, do you wear gloves to make milkshakes. She responded, yes we do and she was very polite about it. The other worker came and asked her what I said and she told her. The other worker came to us with MAJOR attitude taking our milkshake orders. She proceeded to say to her co-worker, please pull my hair back because I don't want to hear anyone BITCHING about it. My daughter said, Ma'am, my mom just asked if you wore gloves because she was handling food, she pulled her hair up and then she handled food again without washing her hands nor did she have gloves on. The young lady became extremely upset and shouted.....I AM NOT TALKING TO YOU. At this point, both my daughter and I were shocked. The conversation became heated because we were explaining we asked a simple question and she was very upset, uprupt and rude about how she responded to the situation. I then asked for the manager, she stated she was the manager. I said can I have a conversation with you. She stated 'no you cannot' I am done with it. I asked her, how can you not address a issue that needs to be addressed. She stated again, I'm done talking about it (VERY RUDELY). From the time she started making the milkshakes her attitude was off. And boy, from the taste of the shakes you can tell. They were not good and extremely watered down. There is so much more to this encounter. Such as shame. So much for NOT going to Chick Fil A. We will take the drive the next time. Manager could use managering skills. I'm still so upset.
