I've had some seriously bad experiences including one where a shop didnt have any of the items I ordered so they sent me random stuff including french fries .... since when do Caribbean spots have french fries? To this day I think the shop was closed, they forgot to turn of the orders and decided to send me someones lunch. With that in mind, I was really pleased to see the positive reviews about this place and planned to head over on my day off. Here is the order I placed, in store, on 05/20/24: Lg Jerk Chicken (spicy) w/ mac and cheese, cabbage, and plantains Red velvet cake Champagne Cola (12oz) Total: $28 You cant miss this place. The signage is colorful and large. There was on street parking right out front but I noticed two or three spots on the actual lot with one marked handicapped. There's no seating in this place but I'm sure we've grown used to that shift following the pandemic. In this place, although there might be room for a table or two, the shop occupies that floor space with merchandise. Not like, shirts and bags but detergents, body washes and other personal care items like tooth brushes and deodarant for sale to the public. Given the size of the space, it wasnt obstructive or crowded. I love that entrepreneurship says everyplace can be a one stop shop. A smart move since the building is mixed use with residences above and I imagine that tenants can come down, grab a beef patty and Colgate. Most of us have a certain expectation for how we like our Jerk so ordering it as a first experience helps you to cage the cooking style. Dry or saucy? Spicy or Mild? Sweet? I'm not going to say that Jerk should always be spicy and sweet but Jerk should always be spicy and sweet. Argue with your mama. The platter I received was LOADED. Huge portion even for Large. Enough for two people (or one person with at least two leftover meals). The mac looked great - cheese pull proved it was creamy and the varying shades of gold let you know the mix of cheeses. The plantains were fresh, sweet, moist and not burned. Some places give you exactly five slanted slices with your meal be not here. Cabbage was flavorful and had bite (not limp, mushy). And the entire thing was delicious. As written on the interior signage, 'rice and peas' is not included in your platter purchase. It is a side dish option like all the others. Every drink you'd expect in the refrigerator was there: peanut punch, soursop, homemade sorrel as well as ginger pineapple drinks and various jamaican and american sodas. Carrot cake, red velvet, rainbow layer and cheesecakes available for dessert. Rumor has it that the worse the customer service the better the food at Caribbean spots. Dont believe the hype. The woman that took my order was pleasant and friendly and laughed with me when checking out. All in all it was a straightforward, fast and polite exchange like all food orders should be. The food was certainly good and I intend to go back. Wishing this place and its staff much success. read more

I discovered this place while out running errands. I'm new to the area and didn't want to drive to my old neighborhood for Caribbean food. Its location is prefect for the constant road and foot traffic. The staff were nice and patient as I read the menu choosing my options. The platter was so heavy I had to eat it in three different settings. Everything was delicious and fulfilling. I went back a few days later and order another Oxtail platter for myself and the Jerk Wing platter for my husband. He was pleased as well despite how picky he is when it comes to food. I'll be a continued customer while I reside in the area.! read more

I visited this place twice. The first time was at 11am, and the second closer to 12pm. The front store appearance looks closer to a grocery store because along the walls and window side are household items for sale. There are no tables, just chairs on the side and a standing bar to eat. The kitchen is separated by a half glass window wall so cooking prep can be viewed. The register person is also the cook. Now for the good part. Altogether, we ate stewed chicken over a bed of steamed cabbage, goat curry with rice and beans an a side of yam, oxtail with rice and beans and a side of sweet plantains, and Jamaican jerk wings. The stewed chicken was perfect fall of the bone and more dark meat. It was full of flavor, with salt, spices, and savory goodness. The goat curry with rice and peas was pretty spice, with a lighter load of spiciness. Yams, sweet and crumbling. The oxtail, not cooked to the point of completely falling off the bone, but just enough to make the connective tissues melt. The oxtail was stewed in a similar sauce to the stewed chicken. The plantains, good sweetness with caramelized tips. I'd personally like the plantains more caramelized, or less ripe. The jerk chicken wings on the other hand, fall off the bone and just under over seasoned. To top it off, more jerk sauce is ladled over the wings. I'd be fine with just jerk chicken wings, the sauce, and rice heh. Definitely a good experience which I hope continues in quality in the future. The curried chicken had no seasoning, there were little to none potatoes and my granddaughter spent the wee hours of the morning vomiting up the curried chicken. If you want some fantastic Jamaican food, I highly recommend Ashabee Cuisine!! Their Jerk chicken is a flavor explosion with the perfect blend of pieces, and the brown sten chicken is so tender it falls off the bone. The rice and peas are a must-try.
