It's milky more than anything (as I would expect from a drink called Tres Leches) but I hoped it to be more cohesive with a stronger coffee flavor. This hidden sanctuary invites Brooklynites to open the door to a country style cafe with walls of box shelves full of cookbooks and Japanese style décor that you would expect to find in a two-story home. Lamps and the option of sitting in a leather chair, or choosing from teas in tiny jars soothe and provide instant comfort. But don't feel bad if you don't want to detox with the "natural healer" drinks, they provide a slew of coffees to choose from that are served in pre-heated mugs to help you stay warm. The place is far from reliable transportation but it is worth a visit. The one bad thing about Ashbox is that they are closed on Sundays, a perfect day to treasure the escape. read more

I'm not a coffee drinker, but I hear the coffee here is one of the best in the city. However the iced tea here was great! I tried the rasberry mint and the jasmine green. Both were lightly sweetened. Perfect for a hot day! So refreshing. This place doesn't have that many seats, but it's not too crowded either. Star sighting: We saw Anthony from Sex and the City! He seems really down to earth as he was chatting it up with the ppl who work here. I think he must go all the time. If you're in the hood, doesn't hurt to stop by for a good drink and you never know who you'll see. Rumor has it that a decent amount of celebs who live in the area frequent this place. read more

I would recommend this place to anyone. The staff behind the counter are lovely, patient people and the food always calms my cravings for umeboshi onigiri and kelp wraps. The food is fresh with clean tastes (not salty), and it's usually pretty quiet in there. I stop by whenever I am in Greenpoint during their open hours. read more

The pickled vegetables are shredded uniformly like a good slaw should be, and although they need to be distributed better across the sandwich (personal preference), the ratios are right for the compact sandwich. It isn't huge, but it's so well-balanced, it's perfect for lunch, and medium spicy hits my palate just right. Go get one.
