This place is as good as it gets. It's the perfect blend of comfort food that's also delicious and hits the spot every time. I do think they can do a little better with service, but overall I would argue they do work their best and work hard to ensure all orders are delivered timely. I have tried the different kababs they offer, lamb, chicken, and beef - whether it's kabab style or kubideh, and I honestly cannot remember a single time when it's been a disappointed. We have Ashburn Kabab cater several of our events, graduation parties, family dinners, family occasions and several celebratory dinners. Their food is always adequate quantity and the quality is maintained even when it's cooked for a big crowd. Their kababs are always soft and perfectly seasoned. The kabli pulao (rice with carrots and raisins) is always on point and their white sauce is the perfect seasoning with any entree. For those thinking this is an Indian or Pakistani restaurant, IT IS NOT. Afghan cuisine is very different than those two. I really enjoy Afghan cuisine because of the flavors of the meat and marination they use. It's not curry based at all, and not spicy. Please don't write negative reviews thinking you will find butter chicken, haleem, chick peas, seekh kabobs here. This is the first time I have ever been to Ashburn Kabob and I must say it was a hit in my book. I went today around 6pm and was surprised that it wasn't busy given it's a Saturday evening. The place was really clean and the staff were friendly. There were plenty of tables and I appreciated the free hot tea they have near the entrance. Now let's talk about the food. My husband ordered the chicken kabob and my niece and I ordered the combo for 2 which came with ground chicken kabob, ground beef kabob, regular chicken breast kabob, and lamb kabob. The lamb and chicken breast kabobs were really tasty. My niece and I really enjoyed those two options however when it came to the ground chicken and ground beef, ehhh...let's just say I wouldn't get that again. It's not that it was bad it just wasn't as good as the other choices (plus the texture was a little weird). The meals came with two types of rice, naan, and a side of potatoes. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5 is because of the potatoes. The potatoes I felt could have been cooked a bit longer as they tasted kind of hard. Update. The food has taken a dramatic downturn since it opened up more than 3 years ago. I raved about it when it opened but now I must say the food has become bland and mediocre. The kababs and side dishes like mantu taste like leftovers. Maybe the chef changed or there's greater emphasis on fulfilling quantity of orders vs maintaining quality. I wouldn't mind paying the high $$ if the food was good but it isn't worth the amount they've set. I hope they turn things around - I'm a huge fan of Afghan food. read more

This was a very pleasant surprise if you can find it. It's tucked away in a neighborhood building (it used to be a dry cleaners) and you'll miss it if you don't look carefully. Three of us went around dinnertime to eat there. We arrived and looked thru a menu and then selected various chicken and beef kabobs; the goat and lamb ones were a promising option for next time. There were a couple parties eating and visiting; very low-key and pleasant. After about 10 minutes, everything was done: entrees came with rice and flabread and there are various yummy sides available (hummus, several kinds of what looked like mashed peppers). The kebabs were *amazingly* good -- both meats were well-seasoned and extremely tasty. It's a goodly amount of food, and a good bargain -- you can fill up here for relatively little money. Dessert baklava was terrific -- not super gloppy (it's the pistachio kind for you purists). Decor was a little sparse: there are posters on the wall with some really creative ways of spelling Afghanistan. It's a little cafeteria style, but as mentioned above, nobody seems too worried about it. It's clean and friendly - the owners are very proud of the food, and IMHO, rightly so. I've ordered from here twice now and cannot get enough! I love the chicken and beef koobidah. The portion is massive, rice is fluffy and the sides are absolutely delicious! Last night to my surprise the kababs were still in point but the fresh naan bread they served solidified this spot as a great Kabab spot in Ashburn. I was excited to receive a menu for this establishment in my mailbox because the food pictured look so good! All the food was on skewers and featured different regional preparations (Iranian or Afgan). I spent over $50 looking to try out different things from the menu, from entrees to desserts, because I wanted to expand my gastro experiences. Unfortunately, what I received looked nothing like the images on the menu. Nothing was in kabob form. None of the entrees included vegetables. And the kabob entree that I ordered that was specifically vegetarian was dismal. Now, when I say not in kabob form, I'm not complaining that skewers weren't included, I'm saying that the contents weren't even bite-sized as if they were cooked on skewers. The vegetable dish came with two whole tomatoes, a baby eggplant, and two baby onions - all whole. All the meat was so overdone that it smelt like and had a jerky-like consistency. The rice was oily and dry, leaving your mouth feeling like the face of a teenager going through puberty. I was hoping from some sort of reprieve when I dug into the firnee, a sort of milk custard which I've had before and was looking forward to, but alas, it had the consistency of Elmore's Glue and didn't taste that much better. I also ordered the Bakhlava. Half of it was great and airy whereas the other half was like trying to eat a dense, refrigerated honey comb. Needless to say, it wasn't the best interpretation... well, let's be honest, it was bad and probably old. I wish I could say my culinary trip ended here, but my body was keen to rush everything out as quickly as possible, leaving me strapped to the john doing crunches for hours and cementing my decision to never order from Ashburn Kabob again. This is our go to Kabob place. We used to drive to Reston Kabob before they shut down. When they did, we went searching for something to fill the void. Ashburn Kabob always makes us hot, delicious foods no matter what we order. You can't go wrong with any of their kabobs. The chickpeas are my favorite side though I haven't tried all their sides yet. Everything we have ordered is always fresh when we pick it up. When the management changed awhile back, we were worried this place might go downhill, but they maintained the reputation. I have eaten here in person and it was delicious, however online ordering needs some work. The online menu is confusing and doesn't list all options. I ordered 7 lunches for delivery on Thursday. Four were salads and three were entrees, but they sent all entrees. Delivery was 10 minutes late which was inconvenient with only a 30 minute lunch window. Very disappointing. I was looking for a nice place that offers quality in their kabobs, and this place did not disappoint! The food was delicious, and their gyro platters are very good as well. They give large portions, and the environment was friendly and clean. I always look for a restaurant that provides a variety in their menus, and this restaurant did just that. I have much respect for the staff who are all kind and welcoming. I recommend trying their kabob and rice, and you can choose what type of meat you would like (chicken, beef, lamb). If you would like a bit of everything then the combo would be a better choice. Their sauces are absolutely delicious, and I even ask for extra. This review isn't about the food. Just absolutely horrible customer service. Worker claiming they are the managers when in fact they are not. I asked for some extra sauce and the employee there refused, saying whatever they gave me was plenty. I even politely offered that I'll pay for it, which they stated they don't sell and I should go directly to the store. She was obviously having a bad day and was taking it out on me but it was absolutely unnecessary. I don't usually write reviews, good or bad, but this establishment forced me. I ordered delivery for 4 people, standard menu items. They charged an $8 delivery fee and I added an 18% tip. It took an hour and 20 minutes to arrive from the time of my order. I called them twice; once at the 50 minute mark and once at the 80 minute mark. The second time I called the woman on the phone told me they were not a fast food restaurant and it takes as long as it takes. I was about to tell her that I would not be ordering from there ever again, but she hung up on me before I could say anything else. Rude beyond belief! When the food arrived, the meat was incredibly dry, especially the lamb. The Naan bread was terrible and most of the meal was rice. Do not patronize this awful "business". I should also add that I live less than 2 miles from this place. The delivery person just laid my order on the porch and didn't say a word. No 'thank you', 'sorry it took so long', nothing. Worst food and delivery experience I've ever had. This "restaurant" should be out of business. Lousy, lousy, lousy! I gave it one star because I want this posted.
