I try the Indian food in every city I travel to. When I knew I was going to Madison I just assumed there wouldn't be any; certainly nothing good. I was wrong. When you walk in the decor is .... Fine. It won't blow you away. It screams, we're decent. Add the fact that there is no music and first impressions are reinforced. But if you like dining to the sound of exhaust fans this is the place for you. But I'm not here for ambiance. I'm here to eat. And eat I did. Veg samosas, naan and vindaloo. All of was fantastic and I highly recommend it. If I'm ever in Madison again I will be back. read more

The food was good, the service was good and the establishment was clean. Stop here for lunch with a friend and we had a nice lunch. I asked for my food to be moderate level spicy and was not spicy at all. I should've said give me spicy so if you like spicy food then just know that the moderate level is not spicy at all which is great for those who don't like spicy food. read more

We ordered soupy momos. Soup was good but the momos are not steamed well. Service very very very bad. We asked for special noodles and they rudely gave an expression. What the hell is that how would I know from that. Also me and my partner went to dinner. The guy always looked at my partner for a question that I asked. What is that even - so disrespectful. When we ordered Manchurian noodles - he said wait time is 10 min but it didn't come out even after 30 min we waited so long when I asked how much it's gonna take they said 10 min we were getting late so I asked them to cancel. Surprise surprise they got the noodles immediately and with no Manchuria. When I asked for to go box, he looked at my partner and said sit and eat some I'll get the box rudely. Also we are South Indians, not sure if that's what ticked them off but we were seated at a corner table and not treated well. Water in our glasses was empty for so long still no one bothered to fill it. But the service for others was very quick and the server who talked to us didn't even smile but was so nice and cracking jokes with everyone. My partner and I went out that night for good food and good vibes. But this one experience made the rest of the day bad. read more

My party of 2 came in on a Wednesday night. It was actually pretty busy but we didn't have to wait for a table. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time but the service itself was a little slow. There only seemed to be one server managing 2 rooms, so it's understandable. The server helped point out some vegan options on the menu and we ordered samosas, vegan tofu masala, and (I think?) the chapati. I enjoyed all of it and would like to come back and try some more soon. read more

Decided to stop in for lunch after hiking around the area. Simple place; clean with modest decorating. Pleasant server quickly took our order and we received our food after only a short wait. My curry cashew chicken and rice was delicious, as was our cheese naan. My wife and I loved her lunch grab bag, which had a variety of offerings. Both had moist chicken and were spicy but not too hot. Portions were good for a moderate lunch; a bit pricy; on par for Madison. read more

I took out lunch from here on a weekday. The place was almost empty at that time. Chicken shahi korma was the favorite item I had from here. Cheese chili naan went well with the curry. Goat biryani was very flavorful as well. Protein was cooked tender. Everything I went for medium level of spiciness. I think that is the right level for me. read more

I think they're still in their soft opening. We easily got a table for 8 on Friday peak dinner time. We decided to order family style since we had such a large group. I'm a fan of spice, so if you aren't, or are sensitive to it, I'd stay with mild. We had a mix of spice people in our group and we thought we were safe with medium across the board but some of the dishes had a kick. Highlights: chili cheese naan and the tandoori chicken that had mint with it. Very moist, "different" in flavor from the curries. It just was refreshing. I thought the Chana masala was a bit underwhelming with flavors and the dal (lentils). All of the meat curries were very flavorful. Would come back. On the way out, I saw a biryani dish that looked delicious so I'll be back for that. read more

The food was all 5 stars. The paneer tikka masala had an amazing flavor, almost exactly like the one from our favorite restaurant in Washington. It's different from all the other places around: swagat, swad, maharani, maharana, amber indian cuisine. I mean the paneer tikka masala really stands out and doesn't taste too much like a tomato soup. The veggie pakora waste small but mighty with flavor. Without the sauces they were so flavorful and tasty. Just wow. The tandoori chicken was cooked very well. No part of it was soggy, it came out sizzling. The flavor was good as well. The mango lassi and garlic naan were also good. Now I'll only give it 4/5 because no one came around besides the one time right after the food came to refill the waters and make sure we didn't need to order anything else or ask if we were ready for the bill. Only one block from the Madison Concourse hotel and close to campus is this gem of Northern Indian cuisine. The bone in chicken biryani was excellent, though not quite Hyderabadi. There was a hint of mint, and something sweet without the chili heat of a true Hyderabad biryani. Because of one ethnocentric and unfair review, all dishes come with unnecessary knives. The proper way to eat South Asian food is with the right hand without Occidental utensils (though the fork and spoon for eating were invented in China along with chopsticks). A third of the world or so eats with the right hand, I don't think it's fair to judge restaurants by any service standard that would be foreign to them. By Indian and Asian American standards, the service here is excellent. They use a team service approach; they are accurate, prompt, and they don't rush customers after eating nor do they interrupt conversation. They use Indian serving bowls which are deep to retain cooking heat, so it may appear that portion sizes are small but the dimensions of the bowls are deceptive. Each entree is enough for 3 or 4 to share. The Diwali tradition is chole with puri, it was good but the puri was flat not properly puffy. We asked for the food to be medium hot, it came pretty mild which tells me the chef is from Northern India. One of the waiters assured me if I asked for it to be extra hot next time it would be to my liking. When we requested medium hot, the waiter looked at my Chief of Staff (White) and nodded and that's when we both realized we should have asked for their hottest setting. I'm sure they were going by previous experience, but we were in town for a South Asian Studies conference and the weekend brought in scores of scholars with a taste for hot spicy food. Many agreed, good restaurant but the food is too mild. The mango lassi was quite good, the one thing I don't like about this and a surprising number of other restaurants in this college town is the use of unhealthy and irresponsible unrecyclable plastics like straws and Styrofoam take out containers. It's very loud in here, partly because of how popular it is. One of the best things about the clientele here is seeing so many Asian American students dining with their parents. read more

This is some of the best Indian food I've had in a while. I ordered palak paneer and goat curry and loved both. The restaurant interior is squeaky clean and a nice place for gatherings with friends. Although a bit pricey, the portions are very generous. The owner of the restaurant Mitra was a fantastic host and checked on us many times during our dinner. Recently opened and really good! I had the Vegetable Korma which was served in a yummy cashew sauce, and the Kadai Paneer, firm cheese cubes in an onion-pepper-spice blend. Both really good, and accompanied by a Peshwari Naan (stuffed bread). Lemonade with mango pulp to wash it down. The restaurant has two rooms. The first room has harsh fluorescent lighting and is open to the kitchen. The other room is a bit nicer and calmer, though decor was lacking. The unpleasant surprise came with the check, which added a 4% "admin fee" for unexplained reasons. Nonetheless, I would go back. So tasty! (But I don't live in or near Madison.) read more

But what gives it such a low rating is they randomly added extra on to my bill! I didn't realize this until I got home, and I was furious. They added ~$10 to my bill for no reason. I ate here yesterday. Ordered chicken tandoori and asked for a knife before it came to my table, since the server didn't bring me one. Turns out I didn't need the knife. Had to eat the chicken like finger food as f There was not enough meat on the four small pieces of chicken to need a knife. A platter of white rice with my meal; there was a meager amount of vegetables on the chicken plate (and I do mean meager. Four small chunks of chicken probably bought in a huge plastic bag from some big box discount store at rock bottom prices; it had probably been in cold storage in some warehouse for months, if not years. Nothing else. Not one piece of Naan, nothing. To get Naan I had to pay an extra $5.00. I skipped the beverage; as that would have added another $5.00 (at least) to the bill. as it was I paid nearly $30.00 for LUNCH (not dinner), as a single diner. $30.00 bucks! For lunch! one person. The decor here is awful: as there is no decor. The whole space is a hot mess. I do not expect this place to last long. I greatly prefer the Nepali restaurant just down the street. I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK TO THIS PLACE. read more
