As a traveler driving towards Madison I craved Indian food. Yelp gave me some recommendations and I chose this one based on ratings and I was rewarded with the most delicious garlic naan I've ever had. It was a rare occasion that we were on the west side of town around dinner time so we looked for a place to eat with strong reviews. We love Indian and this was a chance to check out a place on this side of town. The restaurant was partially full on a rainy weeknight. The decor is very warm and modern - not your typical Indian restaurant. The menu is similar but different than many of the places we have frequented. We started with an Indian beer and some samosas. The samosas were very good. We ordered the onion and black pepper naan - it was something we had not seen before and we enjoyed it. Actually we like the large variety of naans that they had. For our mains we ordered the Chicken Spinach and the Chicken Shahi Korma. They had some funny spice levels including "nice". The Shahi Korma had decent flavors but the chicken was dry - disappointing. And the Chicken Spinach was a bit flat in flavor. That is not as complex flavor wise as most Indian dishes. The prices were a bit high though they did offer 10% off if you pay cash. That is the largest discount of that type that I have seen. I appreciate that option versus dinging you 3-5% for using a credit card. Overall a mixed experience. read more

I wish I had taken pictures but we dug in right away! Everything was SO delicious. Let's start with the mango lassi- so creamy and sweet! We tried the lamb samosas and the outer shell was very salty but the inside was much tastier. It went very well with the sauces. I'd love the try the veggie. We also had garlic naan which was not only delicious but a huge portion. My partner got spicy chicken Biryani and that with raita was expectedly 10/10. I'd consider getting that next time. I tried lamb mango curry for the first time and I was highly impressed. It gave me an option for spice but it there was no spice because it is a sweet dish. So I don't recommend if you don't like sweet meat and you prefer savory and spicy. The naan paired well with the mango curry, as did the mango lassi. Everything was so delicious. Recently had weekday buffet lunch here. Everything was tasty and delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. I have eaten here before they brought back the buffet. It was always good. A good place to have Indian food when in town. A special mention to their Fish pakora - it's delicious. Perfect balance of crispiness, portion and a savory taste.. just yumm. This appetizer was recommended to us by one of their servers & since then, every time we stop there, it's our regular order. They also have good variety of vegetarian, chicken, lamb varieties. Interestingly all the variations under a single protein or vegetable have the exact same price - other than a differential between lunch & dinner portions. I don't personally care for the seafood options, but that could be just me being picky about fish (love fish prepared at home). They also don't have dosa or South Indian cuisine which I'm assuming as it's a Dhaba style restaurant - more from Northern/Eastern/Western Indian cuisines. The Biriyani varieties tasted decent. This is our favorite restaurant in the Madison area. We've gone here at least five times now, but we always ate our food too fast to get a proper review photo. I finally slowed down enough this past visit to photograph our incredible dinner. The food is phenomenal. The samosas are delicious, especially paired with the cilantro chutney (my personal favorite). We always order the butter naan and chicken tikka masala (spicy level 2) because it blows us away every time. That being said, we're challenging ourselves to try something new the next time we visit. The service is always great, with waiters coming around frequently to top off your water and remove dirty plates. We've never had to wait for a table, despite dining during busy times. We will be lifelong patrons of Dhaba! read more

All of the food here was incredible, but I think the naan is the best I've ever had - thick, just the right amount of chat from the grill.

We've been here 3 times now and it's become our favorite place to go for Indian food in Madison. We recommend it a lot. The service and ambiance is very high quality. I have to share this story: I came here with 2 friends who had a young baby once, he started fussing while we were eating and a waitress came by and asked if we wanted her to rock him while we ate. Our friends laughed and said it was fine but the waitress looked eager to play with the kiddo, we thought that was so sweet. Don't think this review is just for the service though, the food is fantastic. I eat decently spicy and I go for a 3-4. Also I think their rice is perfectly cooked. read more

Close to being perfect! The butter chicken (spice 4/6) was the perfect spice level. The chicken was tender and long strips, with an incredibly creamy sauce. There was a ton of naan - great price for the portion, was thick soft and well flavored. The only knock was the rice was a bit hard - think it just needed to be cooked a little longer. I took out lunch from here. Peshawari naan was a good twist to the normal naan. It was slightly sweet with coconut, cashew and raisins. As good as it sounds it didn't go well with the spicy curries I took. May be a mild curry would have gone well with it. Ginger naan was my other bread. It had nice ginger flavors. Go for it if you are a ginger lover. I think garlic naan would have been the best. Coconut chicken and chicken mango were my curries. Both were good. read more

Seeing the first 3 reviews are Yelpers who are both on my list of friends I am already thinking the 5 stars I hope to share are a given. Seeing this place countless times as I drive through the intersection, I was thinking about which Chinese restaurant I should visit, I suddenly realized I should visit the place that is right in front of me. I LOVE Indian cuisine. Sunday night and they are open. Walking in I see a LOT of outgoing meals that are awaiting the arrival of their new owners, surely a very good sign. The man who took my order was very nice and accommodated me with what sometimes feels like a daunting task to decide what I want. As often as I have had Indian food I still find myself feeling inept when I start reading the menu. Deciding on a basic Butter Chicken and garlic naan is default thing I seem to usually have when I'm not eating it in the restaurant. Upon arrival at home I am not disappointed. The first sight of the naan set my mind at ready alert to feast divinely upon a simple pleasure. This naan was a far cry finer than the last time I ordered it. Cooked with care, which was not the case last time. The curry sauce was tamer than I'd ordered. I'd asked for five of the six star offering. It would appear I would have very easily survived the 6. But it was indeed very delicious all the same. Rice too, perfectly seasoned and not a sticky grain to be found. Not wanting to slag the other regular Indian restaurant I have most often visited, it bc an be safe to state I won't be eating at that place moving forward. Great find in West Madison. Great food, service and ambiance. Everyone was super nice. We got Papadam and pakoras for starters. Lamb, daal makhani, mushroom masala, garlic naan and paratha. All dishes come with plenty of rice. The food came out quickly and tasted great. Good portion size, we had quite a bit left over but couldn't take it with us as we were visiting Madison. Got lunch here! My thoughts: Butter Chicken, spicy level 5, $11.95 2.5/5 star. It was alright. Wasn't spicy for me, but it may be that my tolerance was spicy food is higher than average. Tasted a bit tomatoey and sour from other Butter Chicken I've had before. I probably wouldn't get this again. Chicken Korma, spicy level 3, $11.95 3.5/5 star. Wasn't spicy at all for me. Compared to the Butter Chicken, the level 5 did something so I did taste a little of spiciness from the Butter Chicken. Cashews are typically in this dish, I believe sometimes people use hazelnut? Anyways, a special special something something they used were RASINS && let me tell you, IT WAS BOMB! Meaning very delicious! The tiny raisins just added a bite of sweetness that was so yummy compared to other chicken korma I've had. For that, I actually really like this dish and would get it again. My lunch order can with seasoned rice. Not sure what the super is, but they put a generous amount of tiny black sesame-looking seasonings in the rice (I believe they call it basmati rice). You get the little "pops" of the seasoning as you eat the rice with the curry. It's super delicious! The cup I got had a few lip stains-- something that I think restaurants in general just got to check. My total came to be $25.21. I didn't try lots of food so I'm going give this place 3/5 stars. I had dinner here with my family a few months ago and we will definitely come back. The food and service was well worth the drive from Sun Prairie. I just wish they had a location on the east side. My brother and his wife introduced me to Dhaba since they always order food delivery from them. I really liked to look and feel of the restaurant, and the tall windows added a lot of natural light. Pretty disappointed in my experience here. 2 stars for service, 4 stars for food. Came here in a group of 8 on a weekday evening. The restaurant is quite spacious so there was plenty of seating available. We deferred ordering to one person in our group and ended up with a variety of appetizers, entrees, as well as several naan dishes. We received our appetizers in about 15 minutes. They were all decent, from samosas, to fried fish, to other smaller bites, but nothing amazing. What was most disappointing was afterwards, we ended up waiting for an hour and a half for the entrees and the naan. In between, all of our finished appetizer dishes sat on our table and none of our waters were refilled. The restaurant was getting full, but was nowhere near packed and we saw multiple waiters walk by every few minutes, but they all ignored us and our table. When we finally did get our food after an hour and a half, the portion sizes of the main dishes were incredibly small for the price, besides the assorted meat platter. The flavors were rich of the different dishes, however the meat platter was very dry and overcooked. The naans were pretty tasty - I recommend the garlic one, but I did notice the more varied they got (adding cheese, etc.) the less appealing/tasty it was. At the end of the day, although we had several good dishes and there is a wide variety of dishes and naan to choose from, the extremely long wait, small portion sizes, and the $25+ bill per person individually is not worth me coming back when there are many other tasty places in the area. read more

Taking the cues from other reviewers I gave Dhaba a try for lunch. A single dish of lamb biryani was enough to say I'm coming back with friends so I can try more dishes. Simple decor and practical. Floor is just sealed cement. No carpets to stain. Settings are nice. White linen table cloth, not paper or plastic. Red napkins folded like a crown. All set up and ready for dinner crowd when I came. Lunch prices are very decent $10 with tax gives you a nice lunch. 5% - 10% off if paying by cash. For a group, that's significant. Food was good. I had mild spiciness and that's perfect for someone like me. The lamb in the biryani was very tender. The dish was tasty with the right amount of spices. I wished it was a little warmer temperature wise. Even then I would still consider coming back for more. Service is ok. The server who cleared my table just dump the utensils onto the plate, making lots of clanking noise. Felt rough and did not match the quiet ambiance. read more

Best Indian food in the Madison area! Everything tasted incredibly fresh and unlike some other Indian places I've tried, there was so much variety in taste between each individual dish. We tried the chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, paneer masala - each curry was rich, aromatic, and comforting with each bite. My personal favorite was the chicken tikka masala here - the chicken is nice and tender, the sauce is creamy and bursting with a blend of spices, and was all around delicious. Samosas: We also ordered the samosas for an appetizer, which by the way are HUGE - although they only come in orders of two, it's probably the size of two samosas squished into one. Super crispy on the outside and hot and stuffed on the inside with an array of sauces to choose from. Garlic Naan: Their garlic naan is also out of this world with buttery, flaky layers of doughy goodness that dips perfectly into your different curries if you've tired of the rice. Lamb Biryani: Wowwww. This is where it is at. I don't know how they perfected this dish, but they did. They seem to understand the time constraints of those working around the surrounding professional businesses to ensure a speedy service. We ordered one of each of the naans and they were brought out just a few minutes before our curries. This is one of the very few Indian restaurants that actually put heat in their 'spicy' dishes. Level 5 meant level 5. I really enjoyed my mango vegetable curry. I was bummed it came in a little copper bowl but soon found this was plenty for a meal, and then some. Best Indian food in the Madison area!! I really had not found any stand-out Indian until trying Dhaba. I was extremely impressed by the service, menu, and food here! All of the wait staff is incredibly polite and attentive. The menu is large with an entire page of vegetarian options which I really appreciate. I got the matter paneer which was paneer cheese and peas in a spiced curry. It was very flavorful and delicious. You can choose a spice level from 1-6, I got a 1 because I'm a baby with heat but I found it even a little spicy still. We also ordered the coconut naan and samosas and WOW both were the best I've ever had. I'm still dreaming about that coconut naan. The samosas were very unique and different. Reviews are true, the food and service here is great! Some of the best Naan I've had and they have such a variety of flavors! We ordered the Garlic Naan - fresh, not too thick, crispy edges, and great flavor!! We also got the Lamb Curry and the Goat Masala, both creamy, perfect amount of salt, and meat was so tender!! Goat is a little tougher, but that's expected. For drinks we ordered the Mango Smoothie which I would pass on ordering, nothing special and came out a little warm. This was my second visit to Dhaba; dinner this time instead of lunch. There are inconsistencies but don't let that stop you from coming. Where our lunch was quick, efficient, and slightly disappointing in the details (plain rice without cumin seeds for example), the dinner was slow but more impressive from a food standpoint. I knew my son wouldn't eat all of his tikka masala and I'd be able to have a bite so I ordered chicken kebab from the tandoori menu, spice level 2 - which was not "a little kick" but more like "draw a sweat and take breaks here and there." Served with peppers and onions and a big bowl of rice (scented with cumin seeds!), this was a really nicely done dish. I would love to try the mixed grill next time! Where the Samosa were a solid medium on my first visit, this time there was no heat at all but the flavor was on point and left me wanting more. The garlic naan can't be missed and the chutneys were a wonderful accompaniment. Tons of vegetarian options. Definitely a good meal, but overshadowed by the length of time we sat there waiting for it (close to an hour). Appetizers came out just before dinner did, leading me to question how they were managing tickets in the kitchen as it was very noticeable that table A was served, then B, then C..... I'll update the review as I get more experiences under my belt as I'll be going back again. The ambience is really nice and the servers are very friendly.
