This place gives me so much joy! While we have ordered from them since the pandemic, this was the first time I ever ate at the restaurant itself. Lots of tables to be able to cater to those coming in for lunch or dinner. The staff is super friendly and attentive. There's a TV playing Indian music videos, one of which was a cover of the Pet Shop Boys heartbeat. I had the papad appetizer as well as the fried cauliflower appetizer. They were the perfect way to start our lunch. Not pictured is my Malai Kofra, cheese balls in a delicious sauce. Nor is the garlic naan that I inhaled. This is my go to for comfort food. This place has dine in only during lunch hours. I was there for dinner. So I had to take out. Owner was a nice person. Take out boxes were packed very well. Chef special naan deserves a special attention. It is a cheese naan. Keema naan was good as well. Medium spice level was the right level for me. Spicy was a little bit higher than what was enjoyable. We have only gotten to-go orders so far but the food here is consistently 5/5 stars! We usually get samosas, butter chicken, naan, lamb curry or lamb vindaloo, and a mango lassi! All are so delicious, everything is served piping hot so when it gets home, it's perfect. The delivery items are wrapped very nicely to make sure nothing spills on the way home - the staff takes great care of your meal. You can tell how much love they put into the food. read more

Coming off a Yelp hiatus with a review for a restaurant that could get some more love from the Madison community! Great food and a great (family-run?) restaurant! I ordered takeout from Royal last weekend on a Saturday night. The place was absolutely dead both times when I walked in -- first to pick up the food and 30 minutes later when I realized our order was missing rice. It's a shame because my partner and I really enjoyed our meal, and to be completely honest, the food at Royal is a lot better than some of the more expensive Indian restaurants around town. We ordered butter chicken, garlic naan, chicken 65, vegetable pakora, and samosas. My favorites were the vegetable pakora and samosas (huge with lots of filling and my personal favorite - big potato chunks). My partner really liked the butter chicken and found the sauce to be a perfect combination of savory and sweet. We both agreed to skip on the garlic naan next time though - a little bland. The person at the counter was very sweet too. She was very apologetic when we told her our order was missing rice and kindly provided us with double the rice portion! Overall, the experience here was great, and I'm looking forward to frequenting this place for Indian food more often! read more

The food is okay. But the lady at the restaurant makes up new rules every single time. We frequently dined there for a month for dinner and my husband and I like to order multiple appetizers as we like appetizers more than main course. We also tipped them generously. However after a month, the lady at the store who is also the owner tells us that for dinner we have to order from the main menu. For a month, she didn't say anything but suddenly one day she made up that rule. Since we already sat down, we didn't want to walk away. We have eaten at this place over ten times in the past year and suddenly today the rude lady at the restaurant asked us to finish up eating fast and pay our bill. We were only at the restaurant for about an hour. I finished up feeding my kids and went over to settle the bill and I asked her how late the restaurant was open till. She went in to say that my kids were not eating and they have a policy that for dine in, you can only be at the restaurant for 30 mins. I asked her if this was in writing anywhere and she said no. With little kids, and for adults no one can eat that fast in 30 mins and there's no sign or policy written anywhere. She bought out dirty plates that had food crumbs on it and as a result of asking for clean plates, she told us to settle our bill fast while we were in the middle of our meal. I have never in my life walked out of a restaurant without paying and unfortunately with the rudeness that came out of this lady's mouth, I had to do that. This restaurant is not family first at all the lady makes up random rules based on her mood for the day. I would not recommend anyone to go to this restaurant unless this lady is fired. Unfortunately I think she also owns the place. Terrible customer service and pooor attitude towards children. read more

I went far out of my way today have a meal at the Royal Indian Cuisine, because friends had taken me there (I live in Minneapolis), and today I had a craving for more of their unique cuisine. The fish curry was extraordinary -- moist fish in a delightfully complex sauce. Their gajar ka halwa (carrot pudding), with its blend of flavors, is hands down the best Indian dessert I've ever tasted. I will be sure to stop in the next time I'm in Madison. read more

Update: look at how the owner responds to negative reviews and see if you want to be treated that way when eating there. That tells you all you need to know! Stay away!!! If you're going to spend time outside of your home to eat, you expect only a few things. Quality food and quality service. That's not what you get here. Hurts to say this as a fellow brown person, but this food does not represent our culture but more importantly, the attitude of the workers doesn't represent us even more. The manager/lady...not sure how she identifies but they were super rude as I've seen other reviews state. Not sure how you are in the service industry and treat your customers so poorly. The food was subpar, and not authentic at all, and not sure how it's possible to screw up naan but the taste was "naan-existent". The goat curry had no spice or kick, and seemed watered down to cater to people who don't really want to try Indian food, but a generic Walmart version. I know it's Wisconsin but try to make people feel like the food is from the eastern hemisphere at the very least. So disappointed and rating one pity star because I'm forced to. read more

I couldn't write enough good things about this restaurant. The owners provide exceptional customer service. I wish I can sit down and eat but ordering a take out is the next best thing. We ordered Goat curry and Saag paneer today along with plain and chef special naan. Both the dishes came with a side order of flavored basmati rice. Everything we ordered was exceptional but I was very pleasantly surprised with how good the chef special naan was. The saag paneer is actually a mixture of palak (spinach) and saag (mustard) curry with paneer. The owner was kind to send me off with free Gulab jamun which was delicious! Very empty during lunch time. Decent Indian food. The chicken in the tikka masala was dry. The garlic naan and rice was good. The server still calls it "Chai Tea" but I guess good help is hard to find. The TV was playing children's cartoons and the server was playing Indian music on his phone. This is my absolute favorite Indian place in the city. The selection is fantastic with a large assortiment of Southern specialties from the Hyderabad area as well as some popular dishes from other areas (Chicken Tikka Masala, etc). My favorite dish is the Chicken Shahajani with a decadent sauce base, and a balance of flavors that blends the unique aromas together for a truly outstanding meal. Another highly recommended option is the Samosa Chaat that surprises you (pleasantly) with every bite. 10/10 my go to. read more

This has got to be the best Indian restaurant in the area. The quality of the food is unmatched by anyone nearby and honestly some of the best Indian food I've had anywhere. The restaurant has been take-out only for quite some time but she gives such good portion sizes. One thing to be aware of, the spice levels are really high so if you're ordering spicy make sure you know what you're getting yourself into. My favorite dish is the lamb mughlai. The meat is so tender and flavorful and the dish is so unique with mushrooms in it. I just LOVE this place. The owner is so sweet too and you can tell she takes great pride in her food. read more

Me and my wife have been looking for a good Indian restaurant in Clarkesville Tennessee for over two years and can honestly say that we have found one. The food here is good and the naan is even better. Previously we would go down to Franklin Tennessee to go to a Indian restaurant down there but we both agree that this place is our now go too restaurant for Indian food. There was only one server at the time and I'm assuming it was the owners college daughter as she had me a reference to having a busy week at college that week. The chef did come out from the kitchen and ask how her meal was and checked on us which was appreciated even though the food was really good. My friend and I came here a couple minutes after they opened, so no one else in the restaurant yet. We ordered and our food came super quick, within 10-15 minutes. We ordered chicken tikka masala, bagan bartha, samosas, and a few different types of naan. All of it was SO SO SO good!! Their menu is really extensive and has a ton of vegetarian options, so I'll definitely be back to try more. The lady who served us (I think she was the owner) was really kind and attentive. You might see some of the most popular dishes like chicken tikka Masala like in any other Indian restaurant but...here is the thing, what you don't know it's that they have a magic touch to make them taste even better, everything tastes natural, so creamy and rich in flavor. Also, they add vegetables to their dishes which is something that many other restaurants lack a lot. Their chutneys are delicious, you can really taste the tamarind fruit and the fresh mint in each of them. I have tried many of their dishes and my favorites are: tandoori chicken, paneer tikka, chicken korma, I also love their garlic naan, paneer pakora and their aloo tikki chat. They do a wonderful job in making sure that your food it's packaged very well so you get it nice and warm. The owners are always there to greet you with a smile and make you feel welcome, it's like visiting a friend's house. This restaurant just opened recently and was a very pleasant find. I had been up visiting my youngest son and had wanted to find an Indian restaurant, my favorite food to have. Nice atmosphere and decor, very much a feel of India. I was greeted warmly by the host and staff. There were many items to choose from on the menu from veg to non veg choices. There is also a nice selection of wines and beers. I personally like Moscato, and they had it on the list. Very nice! I chose the Goan Shrimp Curry, as I had been to Goa on my first trip to India. They asked how much spice I wanted and accommodated my choice. Flavors were very good and the spice was just right. I will definitely plan to visit again when I'm back in the area. This place has an amazing weekend buffet. Some of the food is actually spicy, which can be rare to find in Madison. Many vegetarian options, too. The weekday buffet is less extensive, but still good. This is my favorite Indian place to go to on the West side. read more

Royal Indian Cuisine consistently continues to impress my girlfriend and I. This has become our go to Indian restaurant on the west side of Madison. So far we have tried the butter chicken, chicken curry, chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo, and the chicken jalfrezi (all at their third spice level of hot; they offer mild, medium, hot and extra spicy for heat levels). Every single entree was absolutely amazing, but the butter chicken and tiki masala are to die for!! We have gone here literally 3 times a week since learning about this gem! I highly recommend ordering a garlic or cheese naan (or both) and at least one or two Tandoori rotis on the side. Long story short this place is phenomenal and I would HIGHLY recommend Royal Indian Cuisine to anyone! 10/10 read more
