The worst thing is not making your reservations for pie in advance, we get all of our family event pies from Ashleigh s - if one of us fails to make our order in time it is a very sad event! We love her chocolate cream pie the coconut cream pie and the banana cream pie I don't know how she does it but her crust is amazing on a cream pie it's just mouth-watering and I don't eat pie from anywhere else. You can stop in for a slice if there's any left or again order a pie to go you can't go wrong. Inside Prydes (and that's another amazing place to shop) they sell the greatest of everything kitchen related I was on an apron kick this year and I noticed she had a bunch of aprons food little ones. read more

This place has been on my list for a while and it didn't disappoint! On the bottom floor of Pryde's (a fantastic space and shop in its own right), this pie shop was like an unexpected surprise. My favorites were the peach pie and the key lime pie. This is one of the few bakeries I've had where the crust isn't just secondary to the pie filling. The crust on the peach pie is amazing. Perfect, buttery, delicious, with just the right about of crisp and flakiness. Wasn't soggy on the bottom. The key lime had a perfect ratio of cream to pie and the filling was so smooth and not overly stiff/congealed like I've had elsewhere. $6 for a giant slice of happiness is a great deal. The all-butter crust is perfection--flaky, rich, and melts in your mouth. The apple crumble had the perfect balance of sweet and tart with a delicious crunchy topping, and the peach pie tasted like summer in every bite, with juicy peaches wrapped in that golden crust. No disrespect to any of the other amazing pie shops out there, Ashleigh's is now in the lead for the best pie in KC! I can't believe I haven't tried it before now, but it was worth the wait! The minute you walk into Pryde's Kitchen shop, the aroma of pies baking hits you (if you're there on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday). Pryde's is like the holy land for kitchen connoisseurs, but I'll review that separately. Located downstairs in Pryde's you will find Ashleigh's Bake Shop, and if Pryde's is the holy land of kitchen supplies, Ashleigh's is nirvana for incredible pie. I absolutely cannot wait to try all of her offerings on splurge days! Today was key lime and it was easily the best I've ever had. Freshly squeezed lime juice, homemade whipped cream and the graham cracker crust was the perfect buttery crisp consistency. Some graham cracker crusts can be too hard or too crumbly, but this was spot on perfection. At first I thought the flavor wasn't tart enough, but the more I ate the more I realized it was so well balanced it allowed all the flavors to shine through, the lime, the crust, and the rich and fluffy whipped cream. We had to get it to go as the shop is small with only a few little tables. We couldn't wait, so it was the first time I ever ate pie in my car, and oh, what an incredible experience it was! One of those occasions that will be imprinted in my mind... the first time I tried Ashleigh's pie sitting in my car on a hot July afternoon! Pie perfection, well done Ashleigh! read more

I love to bake but I have not mastered pie crust. It never turns out great for me, to my shame. Thank God for Ashleigh and her peerless pie crust. When I don't feel like embarrassing myself on yet another holiday, I order an always perfect pie or five from Ashleigh's Bake Shop. Do try the sweet corn and roasted poblano quiche. It is divine. Fair warning, the Bake Shop is on the lower level of Pryde's. I adore unnecessary kitchen gadgetry and try to shield my eyes and proceed with caution, but I never pick up a pie order without buying something else on the way in or out. Bountiful Bakeries Asleigh's Bake Shop The lemon shortbread cookie from Asleigh's Bake Shop located inside the iconic Pryde's green general store on the edge of Westport is perfectly balanced and not too sweet, which to me is essential. Shortbread cookies are my all time favorite kind and the lemon one from Asleigh's is one tough cookie to beat. If I had to come up with a Kansas City Top 10 Cookie's (and I just might!) then this would be on it, so would another lemon, sweet and savory combination cookie but that's for another time and review. The offerings at Asleigh's are highly impressive and span the true gambit of baked goodies. They change the glistening jars and pie plates seasonaly if not weekly and with what they do always excites my tastebuds. The last time I was in the pies that caught my eyes were a tantalizing salted honey custard pie and a goat cheese honey pie however, I had to go with a saucer-shaped shortbread with the slightest hint of tangy lemon. The crumbly factor was in tact and the rich buttery flavor of the shortbread balanced the sweetness with the right amount of fat. This is not a delicate cookie but rather thick standing up to a warm cupper or brightening a cold day. Asleigh's Bake Shop inside of Pryde's is as iconic as it is inventive and deserves a full 5/5 stars, just remember the hours are a little wonky so plan out a stop into Asleigh's and you'll be glad that you did. read more

My parents came into town and they love pie. I found this place on Instagram and based on the limited hours I figured it was a small shop locally owned. I was right. They are inside (lower level) of Pryde's Kitchen and Necessities. My experience started when I noticed you can text them your order. I texted the number to let them know that I would be coming on Thursday to pick up pie and asked if I should order ahead or if it would be safe to pick up and select based on what's available when I get there. She said I should order ahead because they often sell out before end of the day. I ordered one whole pie and several individual slices for my party of six. Everything is fresh and amazing. When we got the pie out after dinner, and everyone selected their pieces the amazement at the wonderful flavors from everyone at my house was almost shocking. My favorite was the Keylime pie. I don't even know how to put in words how much flavor was in this pie. (My mouth is watering as I type this). We ordered a whole banana cream pie, and it had fresh made Whipped cream topping. It was all so tasty. This is a must try if you like pie. Super super friendly and easy ordering over text message. Definitely put this on your list. And... As I mentioned, it's in the basement of a small kitchen store that has so many wonderful and unique items. I can't wait to go back just to check out Pryde's. read more

Quaint little bake shop inside and on the 1st floor of Pryde's coocking and home improvement shop. You wouldn't know it's there unless you went out of your way to find it, but let me say it's totally worth a little detour. They mainly serve coockies and pies (whole, by the slice, or in mini-pie version). Strawberry-rhubard, coconut cream, classic punmpkin, chocolate German... they have a wide, mouth-watering pie selection. And, of course, offer coffee to go with it. We planned a surprise Mother's Day/Dad's birthday weekend trip from DC to KC to visit my family. I wanted to find a locally made coconut cream pie - my dad's fave - for our birthday dinner dessert. I texted Ashleigh about 5 days in advance to place a pickup order and she was very responsive and friendly. On pickup day, I wish I had had more time to spend in Pryde's (the store where Ashleigh's is co-located). That place is a bakers/chef's dream! If you've never been, set aside some time to browse before you get your pie. I was so glad I ordered ahead because she sold out of pies that day in an hour! If you want a specific pie on a certain day, I highly recommend ordering in advance, especially on holiday weekends. The pie was... the most freaking delicious coconut cream pie any of us had in our lives. And I come from a long line of Midwestern grandma pie bakers. This place is a gem. You take a bit of a "kitchen-land adventure" getting to it's location on the lower floor, but it prepares you for the journey your taste buds will experience once you arrive. The shop decor is quaint and perfect. It feels like some of the food halls I've experienced in NYC. It has an amazing feel to the place. On my visit I got the orange shortbread, Pistachio shortbread, chocolate chip cookie, pecan bars and a slice of coconut cream pie. The person helping me, (owner?) was EXTREMELY kind, polite and helpful. In a 100% genuine way, and that goes a long ways with me. She made me feel welcome, and that I was lucky to be there, which I totally was. The cookies are almost like eating small pies. They are huge and thick. They will satisfy most cravings by themselves. They had a very buttery flavor, and soft but textured crumble. All three of the cookies were amazing. The coconut cream pie was delicious. I slayed it in the car, outside of the shop. I couldn't wait. It was a tiny bit hard to eat out of that container, but I managed. It has a very smooth and creamy texture and the crust was amazing just on it's own. NOW.. The Pecan bars!! WOW.. Just divine. They are very rich, so don't over do it (ha right.. It happens). But they were perfect. I was extremely impressed with those pecan bars. Make the effort and time to visit this shop. My mom's birthday is 3/13, which is a busy time for pies since the next day is Pi Day. She wanted lemon meringue pie this year and a couple of bakeries said they couldn't accommodate us, even though I called a week in advance. I'm so happy with the way things worked out because not only were they kind enough to take my order at Ashleigh's, the pie was incredible! It was tart and lemony with a delicious crust and fluffy meringue. They even decorated the boxes by hand with happy birthday wishes. The only pie place where I've ever thought "DANG, this crust is GOOD." before even thinking about the filling! Ashleigh's is a homey, little bake shop nestled inside the back of Pryde's. Inside you'll see a display case filled with beautiful pies and quiches. You name it, Ashleigh has got it: key-lime, coconut cream, German chocolate, apple, peach, and more! I opted for a coconut cream pie (a crowd favorite) this time on my visit and it was delightful! The crust was perfectly cooked and flaky. The filling was equally delicious as well and had the best coconut filing I've ever had: light, sweet, and full of coconut flavor! Besides the coconut cream pie, I've also had the peach and key-lime pie. Both were equally delicious as the coconut cream and had the same tasty, flaky crust. However, I will say my favorite thus far has been the peach pie! It is subtly sweet, but chock full of peaches! Each pie serving was also big as well and well worth money. Besides pie, Ashleigh has an assortment of other pastries such as various bars and cookies! The pistachio shortbread cookies were looking tempting in a jar. So, I caved and snagged one as well. The cookie was tasty, large, and full of that pistachio flavor I am obsessed with. In all, Ashleigh's has quickly become my go-to pie place. The pies are simply amazing and Ashleigh is very kind! She offers about 6-10 different pies at a time and other assorted treats. I had a slice of the coconut cream this time and it was as good as anything I've ever had. Perfect crust and filling. The pecan bar sample was so addicting I had to get one to go. There are 3 small tables with seating for 8, but god-forbid if 8 actually tried to sit at once.
