I came in for an emergency appointment due a cracked tooth. The dental assistant took X-rays to show to the dentist. Dr Ashley came in and and told me that my broken tooth, plus another that she claimed was too far gone, both needed to be extracted. EXTRACTED!? the dentist herself didn't even LOOK in my mouth!! She rambled on about implants and surgery and all the other work I would need to have done after.. she was clearly rushed and I couldn't understand much of what she said. Except that she wanted me to schedule the surgery IMMEDIATELY! Keep in mind this a very very expensive procedure... A second opinion proved that she was just lying through her teeth. Neither tooth needs to be extracted and can be repaired really quite easily and hardly costs much at all! I'm leaving this review in hopes to save any one else from the scams this office thinks they can get away with. Please, go elsewhere or at least get a second opinion. read more

Dr Ashley offers the best imaginable total dental experience. She and her staff are courteous and helpful, as well as spot-on competent. In addition to excellent preventative care and standard dental procedures, Dr Ashley was able to straighten my crossed front teeth using Clear Aligner (like Invisalign) for just $600 over the course of only THREE MONTHS. Early morning appointments are available, a mercy for those of us that work. I have referred multiple coworkers to Dr Ashley, and all have had wonderful experiences with the practice. read more

I am the daughter of a dentist, and I have to say that I do not trust what is going on in this office based on my own honest father. One of the questions on the new patient questionnaire reads: "I want to save my teeth." It makes you feel like you will do anything (in other words, pay) for them, and I found it questionably intimidating. Dr A. told me that I needed work in my mouth (the hygienist, particularly, tried to intimidate me the whole time by chastising me about my molars, which she said were "dark, dark, dark"). I was shocked, because I take pretty good care of my teeth compared to most people. The dentist then proceeded to prescribe a lot of costly and perhaps dangerous "necessary improvements" for a mere $2,600. As you can imagine, I was floored. I went on to get two second opinions; both dentists said that the prescribed recommendations (to have all the silver stripped and filled with ceramic/sealant) was a ripoff and unnecessary. I left after one visit and didn't go back. I asked for my x-rays to be emailed, which they promptly did. read more

Dr. Ashley has been our family dentist for over 10 years. I see her for bi-annual cleanings/exams, a couple of fillings and she fitted both my son and me for night guards. Dr. Nguyen is the best dentist that I've ever had. I never have to wait, she has early morning appointments, and she always does a great job...whether it's a simple cleaning or filling a cavity. Dr. Nguyen is an excellent dentist. She is professional and talented. Her office is always clean, and I have never had a wait in my numerous visits. The front desk is extremely helpful with meeting the demands of my schedule, as well as with working with my insurance. Everyone is very professional and respectful. Be warn. Their accounting methods is outdated. Constant issue with wrong billing. If it wasn't because I had my own records. I would have been paying $1,500 as opposed to the $250. Also, their appointment system is junk. If you reply to their appointment reminder system informing them that you need to reschedule. I am so disappointed and appalled by my visit today. I went to Dr Nguyen office for my annual cleaning. I've been a patient since 2007. Until today, I would have recommended this office. In the past I've had the same dental hygienist but this visit was someone new. During the cleaning another staff member came in the room to discuss a situation about her dog. The dental hygienist continued to try to clean my teeth while holding a conversation with the other staff member. I wouldn't have mind as much if she hadn't have tried to maintain eye contact with the staff member while cleaning my teeth....essentially trying to clean them without looking which caused her to pick directly on my gums. The most concerning event was that during the cleaning she allowed build up to occur in my mouth. She simply tried to suction the corners. She never attempted to rinse my mouth out. Eventually I had a lot of saliva..etc sitting at the back of my throat and felt as if it was clogged to which she ignored my discomfort. Once she started the polishing phase of the cleaning she did rinse my mouth out but still did a poor job. She asked if I still felt gritty and I advised her that it would be better if I rinsed my mouth out myself at which time I tried to get out of the chair. She essentially blocked me in the chair and just stated if I would wait until she flossed my teeth. My first instinct was to jump out of the chair and clear my mouth and throat regardless of the way that she felt about it but decided to sit through the rest of the visit being that I was in a vulnerable position. I wish that I would have stopped the cleaning at that point and left the office. I will never return to this office as I was forced to be uncomfortable. Dr. Nguyen did come in for a few minutes to look over my teeth. I can not comment directly about Dr. Nguyen personally because I've never had any problems with my teeth that would require her to do more than look over them. It seems, atleast in my cause, it doesn't matter what the patients experiences. read more

We have been her patients since 2008, not just because she takes excellent care for our teeth, but because she goes out of her way to help people with toothPAIN. I've be seeing dentists all my life (65 years): some of the best in Boston, WDC, Sacramento CA, San Antonio, and now Alexandria VA. This is my 4th visit with Dr. Nguyen ("When"). I had an accident 18 months ago in Texas, and an oral surgeon did the repairs, and a dentist did the cosmetic work. Unfortunately, the bonding on one of my front teeth began to come apart. I was very worried about the cost of the repair, but to my relief, my cost turned out to be only $74.00. Dr. Nguyen not only repaired the tooth, but it looks so much better than the original work done by the Texas dentist. I can't tell you how thrilled I was. Oh! Another thing: her dental assistant let the numbing paste stay in for about 10-12 minutes and I didn't feel a thing with the deadening shot (I have a needle phobia!). Most dentists rush to get the work done and it normally is a little painful with the shot. I can't recommend Dr. Nguyen highly enough! read more

I had been going to Dr. Nguyen for years, but I'm over her and her office assistants. At the beginning the dental hygienists were efficient, and most seemed to be working toward a career goal in dentistry. The last two times they were insulting, and took nearly an hour for a cleaning, all the while poking repeatedly on the same teeth. Then I had to wait for Dr. Nguyen for 25-30 minutes, and she barely looked in my mouth and just hurried off to another appointment. I just called about a tooth that just broke and the woman was clearly trying to be an intermediary, repeating what someone was telling her, they don't do extractions. Then asked how I knew I was going to need an extraction, really, as if I was make a diagnosis only a doctor can make. At first there was nothing available, then can you come in by two, so she could make money on a useless doctor visit, just to give me referral to an oral surgeon. I really want to tell you that this place is amazing. And honestly, Dr. Nguyen and her staff are insanely nice, and they are incredibly knowledgeable and want to help you. But the problem I have is that, when I went for a routine check-up, the technician really hurt me. I truly felt like I was being tortured, for TWO HOURS. This is coming from someone who has actually really enjoyed going to the dentist her whole life. I also had no cavities. But that visit was a terribly painful experience. I know that they were trying to do a very thorough job and, man, did my mouth feel clean when I left, but I have never experienced anything like this at any other dentist. My wife's and my experience with Dr. Nguyen and her staff could not have been better! Jessica was the consummate polite professional at the front desk, arranging and modifying appointments when needed and patiently answering innumerable billing questions; Kristi did a superb job of both cleaning my teeth and advising on how best to maximize tooth health, while Elizabeth and Janet were very competent and kind as they assisted Dr. Nguyen during both regular check-ups and fillings. Last but by no means least, Dr. Nguyen was superb in every way. She managed every dental issue we had, be it fillings, potential crowns and check-ups, with aplomb, and took the time to listen to our numerous questions on how best to manage some expensive future dental procedures to minimize cost. She also made it clear that if an emergency arose, she would be there to help. We left very thankful we had found such a competent and reasonable dental group to work with, and highly recommend Dr. Nguyen and her staff to anyone who asks for a dentist in Alexandria.
