We had noodles, dahi bhalla, lassi, a wrap, and momos. The food overall was delicious and fresh. The dahi bhalla was perfectly spiced, and the lassi was smooth and refreshing. Excellent value and authentic flavour! I came here for takeout (one of the very tasty and very economical family combos). We had samosas, butter chicken, chickpea curry, naan, rice, raita, and mango lassis all for about $45, what a steal!!! This easily lasted us for about 2-3 meals and the leftovers were amazing! This was my second visit to Ashoka and it was almost as great as the first time I visited five years ago. We had Paneer Pakoras and Sweet Chili Cauliflower to start. DELICIOUS and generous portion size. For dinner we had Mango Chicken, Fish Curry, and Chicken Korma, rice, and Garlic Naan. I didn't love the Mango Chicken but the rest of the food was fantastic!! First time ever attempting to dine in, have always ordered take out but my husband and I thought it would be nice to have a family date night for a change. Worst customer service ever - Entertainment Coupon Holders and any other online coupon holders beware!! They had a coupon online on the Entertainment App and on another website for a maximum of 10 dollars off we presented the coupon and it was refused....apparently it needs to be printed although it says that no where in any of the fine prints on the coupon. They would rather loose a table full of customers who were going to order cocktails, a bottle of wine, 4 curries, rice and naan and who order $80 worth of take out from them 3 times a month. Very very bad customer service and I will be emailing both Entertainment and the other website to inform that they are refusing to honour online coupons. They lost a regular customer for sure!! read more

This little Indian restaurant doesn't look like much when you drive past it on the one-way in Langley...but it is a really great little place! I think they did a little reno recently too! I love coming to surprising little mom and pop shops! We ordered the Combo A meal...was more than enough for two people! We packaged the rest up and brought it home! The combo includes: Butter Chicken - we ordered medium spice with some extra chilies on the side for my husband!! Channa Masala Rice - with the yummiest fried onions on top...they were crispy and crushed so they were just the perfect texture...they were so good! Raita Naan 2 Samosa Our server was new and very sweet! Very attentive. Only complaint would be that we wanted the 2 Can Dine for 29.95 that they advertise on the sign in front of the restaurant. When the server asked they said they didn't have that special. Our meal deal was $34 so not a huge difference! But I felt like I was seeing things...haha until I saw the sign on the way out that said 2 Can Dine for 29.95!! We tried to stay local, but it's just not good. The butter chicken I swear has a tomato 'soup' base, the spices are less than traditional. I asked for spicy, it was child's play, the Aloo Gohbi was ok but nothing I'd order again. Naan was bearable. Wouldn't go back and would not recommend, way too many more amazing Indian restaurants out there. read more

I'm totally in agreement with the other reviewer, this place is yum! I actually didn't even know this little strip of Langley existed as I haven't had much of a chance to really explore the city. Its got narrow streets, random courtyards, and cute little restaurants like Ashoka. We had the appetizer platter, chicken tikka masala, and lamb biryani and it was all super delicious. We had requested mild spice levels and they were made to order. Portions were really big and we had enough to take home for lunch the next day. The restaurant itself was a brightly lit space. There's a buffet on the side, presumably for the lunchtime crowd. I'll definitely be back to try other things, perhaps with more spicyness! read more

Helping my dad and his wife move out to Cloverdale last week when we all got pretty hungry so we had to order some food. Someone was craving Indian food so I yelped it up and found this place. They don't deliver, although yelp said they do, but I ordered for pick-up anyway and we drove the 10 min there to a cute little village type of street and this tiny restaurant. We all gorged for $49. The butter chicken and lamb that the meat eaters had got comments about deliciousness and the mutter paneer was the best I've had for a long time. The Naan was fresh and we got large pieces. Each dish came with rice. All 3 adults plus a toddler were stuffed and satisfied indeedy. read more

I'm in town for the weekend for work and had a craving for Indian food. I ordered a medium to spicy spice level butter chicken and cheese naan. I had them deliver it since I'm in a hotel and don't have a car and they have a minimum order of $20 plus a $5 fee for delivery. Ok I can deal with that. Now in terms of the food, the flavor wasn't bad and definitely isn't the worst Indian food I've had before but nowhere near the best. There was no spice at all to my butter chicken and I was a little bit annoyed that I didn't get any utensils or napkins to eat my food with. I had to ask the woman at the front desk of the hotel for a fork and napkin, a little bit frustrating after just having spent $25. The portions are above average size, the chicken was relatively tender but on the bland side without the spice and the naan was pretty decent but I don't think I'd have to go back. read more

I travel a lot for work and have tried a lot of Indian places for dinner all over Canada. If I am trying to get you to appreciate Indian cuisine and you have never been to one, then this is where I will take you. It's down hill from here baby - no other place will be as good as this one and you will always compare every other one to Ashoka. Their butter chicken is simply perfect! Made from scratch, not bought in a bag from Sysco and reheated. Same with the naan and everything they make here. If anything isn't hot enough, they are happy to make your tongue bleed if that's what you want. You will also love the quaint and elegant place settings and the tight spaces that really give it an authentic feel. There is a lot of competition in this industry (Indian food) and a lot of family rivalry, so I am not surprised to see reviews with 1 star. But I know from personal experience this is a wonderful place to come for a wonderful and tasty meal. Enjoy! read more

Nicely prepared dishes, good sized servings, and a varied menu. We ordered Lamb Goasht, Mixed Vegetable Korma, Chicken Tikka, Fish Curry, Shrimp Biryani, and lots of naan, roti and raita. And other dishes, too. Funny, though, even though we ordered many plates for a group of six, our server seemed to sniff, as if we hadn't ordered enough. A look of perpetual disappointment settled onto her visage. The vegetable pakora was very good, as was the fish curry, chick pea dish, and the rice was perfection. Honestly, every dish was wonderful, but the staff attitude - well, was interesting. Maybe we hit an off night. We will try again. Been going here for a couple years. Dining in, it is a pretty good Indian restaurant. Very good butter chicken and paneer(very skimpy on the meat/cheese, but most places are). Great garlic naan and rice. The price for butter chicken is $13, which is average I guess(comes with rice). Take-out is generally below-average. Ive waited 30 minutes to go pick-up, then waited another 25 minutes in the store, while the staff became angry when I asked how much longer. Other times I waited for almost an hour. The order is always right, so that's a good thing, but Ive found hair in the take-out twice. The buffet is very poor. Been there twice for lunch and both times there is not much selection, and the butter chicken was very watery and disappointing. Definitely skip the buffet if you go for lunch, and order off the menu. Overall its a decent Indian place, with okay portion size, good naan and okay service. read more

Hands-down, my favourite Butter Chicken. Consistently delicious! I've been going here for years and the flavour of the food doesn't disappoint. The service is fine - nothing special, nothing awful - but the food is delicious. Their vegetable pakora and papadums are a great way to start the meal, and their naan is fluffy and baked in a clay oven (what you would expect). I've tried the garlic naan but always stick to the classic. I would not recommend the lunch buffet, as I find the quality to be watered down and not even comparable to ordering off the menu (at least for the Butter Chicken and curries). Be sure to grab some of the candy-coated fennel seeds on your way out, a delicious treat and helpful for digestion! read more

This was my first time visiting Ashoka. I would rate my meal & my time there at a 4.5 out of 5. Everything was first rate. The Chicken Masala was fresh and hot and very rich in flavours. We complimented it with the Vegetable Korma, Basmati Rice, and some of the best Garlic Naan I've ever had! We started with delicious Vegetable Pakoras. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was comfortable. If it's as good next time Ashoka Restaurant may become my new favourite North Indian restaurant!!! We've order from Ashoka on a whim one day and it was great! I do not like Indian Affair and with Langley being small you don't have a lot to choose from for Indian Food. I am addicted to the food at Ashoka. Very good quality Indian food and lovely staff. For eating in, the ambience is nice and service is attentive. They also have a popular take-out. Reasonably priced. Try the palek paneer (spinach); aloo mutter (peas/potatos); rosh ganosh (lamb dish, very tender); and lamb vindaloo (lamb dish, more spicey)... These are just a few of my faves... Eggplant dish is also excellent as is the naan bread, e.g. garlic naan. Location is on the one-way section of the Fraser Highway in old Langley (parking is easy enough, angle parking on street). They are near "One Fish Two Fish" (seafood store) and "My Thai" restaurant - by the way, both these businesses are excellent too. read more

I like the food (curries etc are a bit thick but otherwise really good) and the service is quick, but the staff are unprofessional (wearing jeans to work and not very friendly). I went to Ashoka Indian Restaurant yesterday with my family. Our experience was terrible. Not only the food was very poor the service and staff's attitude was rude and un-friendly. We ordered a Kofta Lajawab, Raita and Onion Kulchas. The Kofta curry was tasteless and was just filled with chilli poweder. Its difficult to find such tasteless indian food in Canada. But when we tatsed the raita it was stinking spoilt. We could not even eat a spoon ful. We complained about it and the rude lady who was serving us said she will check it with the chef. She came back and said the raita is absolutely fine. Thats it. End of the argument. She did not even wait for our reply and left. And she of coursed charged us for it. This experience did not only leave a bad taste in our mouths (raita-wise) but also we will never ever go back to this restaurant that does not care about their customer feedback. The raita was only a $2.50 - she could have easily taken it off our bill if we complained even if they felt it was okay (can't help their poor standards) I just moved to Canada from the US and the service in the Indian restaurants in the US is so good that this place does not even compare. in the US they respect the customers so much that if you say that a dish is not upto mark (too spicy, too sweet) they will change it. Anyways - for now...I still need to eat in some more Indian restaurant to make a strong opinion about them in Canada. I would definitely not recommend this one to anyone at all. I put unsure for noise level as it all depends how busy they are and the type of clientele in the place at the time. This used to be my favorite Indian restaurant in the lower mainland...not anymore. The new owners have completely changed Ashoka, and not for the better. They have ELIMINATED the extremely popular lunch buffet. This will surely put them out of business. Mark my words. My husband and I decided to drop by for lunch recently, and we were shocked by what we found. At lunch time, it was EMPTY. The "old" Ashoka would have been very busy at lunch time. Buffet is gone and has been replaced with a lunch "special" - 8.95 for small curry dish with naan for one, or 29.95 for two. Do the math here...this does not make sense. The decor completely changed from being warm and inviting to now dark and cold. The new staff seemed depressed and as such, we decided not to order. It felt creepy and not like an inviting place to enjoy a meal. Very sad to see this previously thriving restaurant now just an empty place. Very sad. read more

Save yourself the time, money and possibly travel costs. The staff is ridiculously unfriendly, the decor is dismal, dark and quite frankly: depressing (to say the least.) I had eaten here months prior and it was OK but today was the last time I will be walking through their doors. The lunch special seems reasonable, but today I did the UNTHINKABLE and asked for a slight substitution. I asked if I could get Shahi Paneer instead of Palak Paneer from the Vegetarian portion of the menu. I noticed that Butter Chicken was on the menu so I figured, this, being the Veg version would be possible. The waitress informed me that no, she wouldn't substitute anything (for the record, the menu did not mention anything in the sense of "no substitutes"). I even offered to pay extra to have this and she informed me that I could look in the menu and order the regular size portion. I then decided to walk out of the restaurant. I've read other recent reviews and it seems that other people have been met with a "no-can-do" attitude. Not just myself. If you want Indian food, make the venture to Surrey instead--It's worth it. read more

My wife and I had dinner she had the mango chicken and I had chicken biryani we both had naan we found the service to be prompt and the wait staff was very friendly and explained the dishes to us . The food arrived hot the the spice and heat levels where exactly as we asked for . We also had vegetable pakoras with a tamarin dipping sauce as an appetizer and they where excellent as well. I would recommend the Ashoka to anyone looking for a excellent date night restaurant for lunch or dinner. This was my second visit to Ashoka and I promise it won't be my last . Service to start was slow. I was beginning to get a bad feeling. However, when the server arrived he redeemed himself in every way! Polite, friendly and knowledgeable. My chicken korma and my friend's malai kofta were the most flavourful Indian dishes we have EVER tasted! The butter naan was incredibly delicious, I had to refrain from wolfing it down! When we asked our server to package our leftovers, he offered to give us additional rice at no charge.
