Dropped by last week and I was the first customer and I choose the seat right next to the buffet for efficiency, it was a blissful 20 minutes with just the buffet and I (and my server who was super nice and on point of the freshly table side naan bread delivery). I had a moment with the buffet like the song from Alica Keys "The Piano and I" with Beethoven Moonlight Sonata's intro theme going on. But it was the "Buffet and I", it was memorable. Again, their tandoori chicken was so smokey and well executed. The butter chicken was very tomato based that day and the moist chicken breast was super tender. I enjoy Indian food with just a touch of heat, thus I order it 'mild'. Even 'mild' is fragrant, layered, smoky and tangy to this palate. However, at The Bombay, you can also order in the "hot" range (sorry I cannot personally attest to HOW firey the 'hot' tastes). I have eaten inside (smells so good!) and more frequently ordered take-out. My go-to dishes are: Butter Chicken, Pakora (Fish, Veggie or Chicken), Samosa's, Roganjosh, Masala Kulcha and Garden Salad. It is approximately $12-15 for a lunch entree (w/rice and nan) and approximately $16 for a dinner entree (w/rice and nan). Appetizers and sides range from $2-$10. I have noticed that the staff is kept consistently busy with take-out orders so they are sometimes more distracted than others. I have always been treated graciously however. On one occasion the family even waited patiently, after hours so my friend could return to fetch the scarf she had forgotten at the restaurant. read more

Indian buffets! Almost as good as the classic Chinese smorgasbord! I really like butter chicken, and I love naan bread, so there's no better place than Indian buffets for lunch (and dinner). I tried The Bombay for the first time. Kinda' small selection of items, which is tough for a buffet, but the food was good and service was very good. When you don't over stuff yourself and can still walk out unassisted, it's a good buffet day! Good value for $13 lunch buffet. The chicken and veggie dishes were good. The naan was perfectly baked! The other one is The Bombay or something and it's the same restaurant, but THIS ONE was started FIRST 2010, if I am correct. Anyway, I had a great time. A group of us ladies went for the 9.99$ lunch buffet and were not disappointed. There was lots of hot fresh food coming out. The atmosphere was lively and as my GF enjoys....men in uniform. Several of them actually. So we enjoyed everything on the buffet. Twice!!! :P I will return for some Pakoras if I am out that way. If you wanna go try lunch. The restaurant was nicely decorated, you can tell the stenciling ,must have taken quiet sometime. And i like seeing cleaning supplies by the bathroom, i took that as a good sign. Great place close to home for sudden curry cravings. I come in for the lunch buffet and always leave full and content. There is a variety of meat and vegetarian curries, as well as sweet dishes etc. my favorite dish has to be the aloo gobi. The service is great as well. Your water is constantly refilled in case you run into something too spicy. read more

After many frequent visits to The Bombay over the years I figured it's time to share my experiences at this delightful Indian restaurant on the border of Poco and Coquitlam. As far as I can remember I've been coming here, and although ownership may have changed the service and flavours remain outstanding. You can find The Bombay in Westwood Centre, which has two entrances(one on Lougheed next to the Nissan dealership and another on Christmas Way off of Westwood St). Now I know when that craving hits for Indian we all are jumping in the car and ready to go, but Bombay isn't open the traditional hours. They have a lunch and dinner service which means they close between 2:30 to 5:00 in the afternoon for prep. As well they are closed on Tuesday's so no dinner and cheap movies at the theater for you! Anyways, once inside you'll notice it's not overly bright and has quite a nice ambiance. You are quickly greeted by one of their friendly staff members who will fill up your glasses with water and give you some menu's. I tend to opt for the vegetarian dishes such as the Paneer Pakora's, Malai Kofta & Shahi Paneer but the meat dishes like Chicken Tikka and Butter Chicken are super tasty too. Just a tip as well, some the the dishes that are already seasoned with salt tend to have extra salt added. If you aren't a fan of overly salty food just ask your server to simply not have extra salt added. Enough of that though, overall this is a great place to dine and I highly recommend giving The Bombay a try. Your taste buds definitely won't complain. read more

The two stars is exactly what it says, "Meh. I've experienced better." I ordered to go tonight because I was craving Indian sweets and felt like a creamy lamb curry as well. I had to call three times. The first time I was put on hold (forever) by this lady and I had to hang up. I figured, fair enough if they're smoking busy. The second time, another lady picks up but due to the miserable weather, my cell phone reception cut off. No matter, tonight I will have my Lamb Butter Masala, Ras Malai and Gulab Jamun. I called the third time, about 22 minutes ahead of pick up and finally a gentleman picks up and takes my order, no fuss, straight to the point. I arrived at 7:15PM to find out that they are not that busy, about 4-5 tables in a restaurant that could definitely fill up to 150 people. There was one server running around. Although it seemed to me that the dine-in customers were getting treated well, I found the take out service a bit wanting in terms of friendlier customer service. I walked in to stand at the counter for an awkward 5 minutes because the gentleman behind the counter was chatting with another customer and a lady who popped out from the kitchen to say a few words in Indian to him. Nobody even greeted me. My food bill came to $27, ordering two portions each of the dessert (so 4 ras malai piees, 4 gulab jamun donut pieces and a small order of the lamb curry). I found it quite pricey for the amount of food and the area they're in, but otherwise the food tastes like your standard Indian fare, not horrible, but not spectacular either. I say in today's economy, spend your money somewhere else with better service and better food. Oh well. It sucks because I've been looking for a regular Indian take out place and so far none of the places in the Tricities can hold a candle to anywhere in Delta or downtown Vancouver, which is too far for a regular weekday takeout. read more

I have eaten here (and had take-out) many times. They have never disappointed. Their food is delicious, and it's consistent. They aim to please and have always hit the mark. We have by now eaten most items from the menu at least once. We even brought some Indian friends with us to get their perspective on authenticity - they loved it too. When we addressed this to our waiter all he said was "yeah, they all look like that because our steamers is broken" so we ended up leaving. I returned hoping after 5 months they would had got their steamer fixed by now. When I looked at my glass it had dried up onions all over it. This place, is by far THE best Indian restaurant I've visited. I've visited many other and their food is just not even close to the tastiness of The Bombay. My husband and I love spicy food so we know to order our food "Indian hot" and if you love spicy food, you won't be disappointed. This place is simple and clean, no fancy decor. If you are looking for wholesome Indian food without having to go through a pretentious experience, this is the place. Service is excellent, all the waiters/servers are super friendly and attentive. If you want a good spicy dish, try their chicken korma, Indian hot. This is my all time favorite. It's true that you will need to pay extra for naan and rice, but since my price comparison is dining in downtown Vancouver, I still find their food very reasonably priced for the quality and how delicious is. We are regulars and it is good take out! However...they changed the take out size foil tins to a smaller size and didnt mention that to us seeing as how we take out once a week. No biggie in the grand scheme. Then they messed up our order 4 times in a row no huge mistakes but after awhile when they should know our orders off heart it gets annoying. A few days ago I ordered the butter chicken which is normally awesome, I kid you not I think they actually watered down the sauce?! So due to all these annoying things I'm bringing it down to 30 stars quality is going way down! This review kills me because this place was one of my favs! A friend and I decided to go here for some Indian food before work. Being on a relatively tight timeline (we had to be gone in an hour, as in fed, paid, done) we made sure to ask the waiter if this was possible. Reinforcing that we had to be walking out the door in an hour or less, he said this was not a problem. After quickly looking at the menu we each ordered relatively simple dishes (nothing that would take a long time to make - that would be unfair given the timeline). Minutes passed, then ten minutes, then fifteen. Around this time is when you usually see something from the kitchen, as it was not a busy night (us and about three other tables). Another ten minutes passed, and I asked the waiter when we could expect our food. "It's coming right out". Annnddd another twenty minutes go by. Forty five minutes (as in almost an hour) after ordering, our food arrived. I couldn't believe it. It took at least five minutes for us to order, so that meant we were around the 55 minute mark - five minutes isn't enough to eat a meal. We had to get it packed up, which took the remaining five minutes. All in all, we essentially sat for an hour in a restaurant to order take-out. I made sure at the outset to mention our timeline. I asked several times how things were going. I feel that I was lied to. "Coming right out" doesn't mean twenty minutes. I've had Bombay take-out before and it was always great. The quality of the food is always high. It's unfortunate that this experience has soured my view of the restaurant's service. I'd recommend doing take-out only. read more

I hate leaving restaurants bad reviews especially when the service is top notch. I loved our server; he was very attentive and always made sure our water was filled. The buffet, however, just was meh. Butter chicken was just okay. Pakora were cold. Rice dish was very very plain. There weren't any samosas on the buffet which was disappointing for us. All the spices are so complex and delicious, with everything tasting so good, its a challenge not to stuff yourself, don't worry you can take away leftovers. I highly recommend my favorite dishes. The naan comes hot and is slightly sweet. The rice has the perfect amount of cloves and spices without being overbearing. With so many options I have hardly made a dent in their menu. Went with a group of 7 for dinner for the 1st time and were amazed by the service and food quality. Great vegetarian selection with all entrees costing only $9.95 as listed on their website. We ordered Malai Kofta (the best), Paneer Tikka Masala (good for a change and probably a better alternative to Cheese Chilly), Shahi Paneer (very good), Veg Korma (excellent with crispy vegetables), Dal Maharani (average) and best part was that they all had distinct gravies/flavours. Malai Kofta was the best but had only around 4 large pieces (like most restaurants). Veg fried rice was disappointing though since it tasted too sour (excess vinegar?) and was overpriced.
