I purchased a 'smart' vape here that is supposed to be good for 7500 hits. The vape crapped out with 90% juice left after 1 charge. Just stopped working. I brought it back and the shop guy told me it was my problem. I've also seen them sell flavored vapes which is illegal within the Chicago city limits. If you prefer shopping at places that stand behind the products they sell avoid this crap factory at all costs. These guys are turds. read more

I honestly do NOT understand how this place has such a low star rating. I LOVE this place. Personally, I've never been a huge smoker. But when it comes to hookah, I can hardly resist, and I have been wanting one of my own for a long time. I found this place on a casual walkabout, and noticed the hookah selection was pretty good, and not terribly priced (though still too much for me to just nonchalantly purchase one). The medium-sized hookah were about $60-70, and the size was perfect for my needs, since i don't need one that's terribly big. Upon going in on another walkabout, they were having a hookah sale, and all their medium-sized hookah were 40-50 dollars. Score! I bought a very nice, medium-sized hookah for $40, then got a couple different flavors of shisha and some quick-light charcoals. Overall, i spent about $60-65. VERY fair price, if you ask me. I recommend this place to anyone who likes hookah; there is an excellent selection of shisha from many different brands, and some are imported from the Middle-east (and are delicious). Now, I'm a real stickler with customer service, too. And the management has always been very helpful and polite. Sometimes they seem to be out of stock of the more popular flavors, but If there is a specific flavor you like that's not available, the management is ALWAYS prepared to order it and have it available for you as soon as possible. DO NOT GO HERE. I can't stress it enough. I completely agree with Julie, these people are morons. Not only that, but they are insanely crooked as well. This was not my first time here, but my third. In the past I've actually [God, why?] recommended this place. My first time here I was amazed. Nice selection, reasonable prices, etc. Second time here was just for some incense, which I was unable to purchase because there is an apparent "$5.00 minimum", which of course isn't posted. Today, however, was inexcusable. I purchased a simple tin of tobacco, nothing more. So why was I charged 33.03? I'm not sure. The price on said tin of tobacco was $19.99, and when I pointed this out I was told that essentially I was crazy. "No, this is not a 1, this is a 2. This is $29.99." Fine, maybe it's the lighting. Upon closer inspection at home, I realized that the 1 really was a 1 and not a 2, meaning that I was overcharged $10.00. In addition to outright lying to my face about the price of the item, they didn't give me a receipt! I'm not going to fight with them because, well, my time is worth more to me than $10.00. But please, listen to me when I say that this is a terribly run, partially crooked, all-around bad business. Instead, take the train up to the Belmont and Clark area and go to Novelties and Stuff; you won't be sorry. read more

Ash's smoke shop & hookah bar is the bomb-diggety bomb! They have the best selection of hookah tobacco I've ever seen. They have flavors I've never seen before... I mean they have triple apple and melon, but have you ever had caramel macchiato or key lime pie flavored tobacco? They must have like 40 different flavors. If you're into smoking at home, they have a bunch of hookahs, but my favorite are their really beautiful glass pipes. They have this one that has FIVE CHAMBERS! I mean, really?!? They even have a pipe that is a beautiful elephant that stands up... turn it over and there's the business end. Ash and the guys there are really helpful and friendly... make sure to check this place out if you're into any kind of smoke. They do NOT stand behind their products, and they DO NOT take care of their customers, they wont tell you this when you buy things from them, but the WILL NOT take returns for defective products. I really like the shop, but being from Colorado it's really hard for me to get over how expensive everything was. The selection was very good, but I really do believe that this place is over-priced for what they actually bring to the table. Even their hookahs are a good 50% more here than you could find somewhere else. But the service and selection were both excellent. I went to many shops and have bought water pipes, but I can easily say they have the best quality pipes. I bought my last two pipes from them and both have been amazing. I see a lot of negative reviews here - thought I should throw my $.02 in... I've only been in here once, but the guy behind the counter was helpful and polite. They didn't have a certain kind of papers I was looking for but he said he'd order them for me. If you don't like the prices, try to bargain with them. Most head shops are willing to work with you on the prices - especially if you're buying a few things. And to the people with credit card purchase issues - BRING CASH. Who shops at a head shop with their debit card? There are 57 ATM's near the North/Damen/Milwaukee intersection - use them. If you pay cash you have a better chance at talking them down on price too. They had a great selection of papers and some decent glass, and they even carry Roor products ("high"-end stoner-ware, heh). Grinders, lighters, all types of stuff in here. Those that have rated this place low - I think your expectations were unrealistic perhaps? For example, when I go to Potbellys and the people behind the counter don't make my food exactly how I asked... I just chalk it up to the fact that they work in a sandwich shop. It must suck to work there, and it must suck to have no other job options. And they must not have any other job options because if they did, why the hell would they still work at a fast food joint? In other words, have some compassion. Not everyone is as smart/perfect as "you" are. Oh and since this is the only head shop in the area, be thankful you have somewhere to shop when you need glass/papers/etc. It's not the greatest place I've ever bought from, but it's far from the worst. This place is run by a bunch of idiots. Do not go here, especially if you're in any kind of a hurry. As in, you have a life worth more than spending 20 minutes buying a pack of cigarettes. These guys are probably stoned out of their minds, which is cool, but don't screw up everything with something so basic. When you accidentally charged me 41.14 for a pack of cigarettes, and I NOTICED THE MISTAKE, there's a problem. Then when you say that you can't even refund it yourself and you have to call the manager to show you how to punch the three buttons, I know you're an idiot. THEN, when you ring me back up for the 14.14 and charge my account again, instead of refunding me the 27.00 difference like a sensible human would, I'm really pissed. Oh? And I won't get the money back until 3 business days at the earliest? Why, thanks, you exasperating moron. Praise the lord I had just gotten paid or i would be asking you to pay my overdraft fees, too. You know, I wouldn't have been so irritated if they had been even slightly apologetic about it. They didn't even care. Not even a free lighter. I was PISSED. Bottom line: being a dumb stoner is fine, but not if you tie up 40 dollars for my weekend and half a week later. Buyer beware! Was sold an ecig battery. Looked it up later, and realized I was charged double than online pricing. The battery stopped working and they refused to replace it. Good customer service.....but I cannot give a good rating to a shop that OVERCHARGES their customers double what other HONEST shops charge. I don't mean to sound like a bitter customer who just thinks they didn't get a deal for the item they purchased but I have been doing research and visiting other hookah shops in Chicago(which I should have done in the first place) and I feel like a got cheated! Me and my friends decided to enter the shop late one night, me for a hookah pen and my friend a hookah. After looking around and tons of questions later we both came out with our purchases. Me coming out with a hookah pen for 50 dollars which is 25 dollars max online and many other stores. My friend purchased a hookah for a 100 dollars and 3 hookah shops I recently walked in only charges 50! The person selling us these items acted like we were getting the items for a steal and at the time I thought we was but I glad I found a different hookah shop that wont rob me for every penny! read more

The first time I went to Ash's, I thought they were a decent smoke shop with average prices and an average selection of products. I bought a few little things, they threw in a free lighter, everything was all good. Then I made a larger purchase there- I bought 2 matching Boom Reload vaporizers, at $80 each. I was unsure of them at first, seeing as I had never heard of the brand, but the staff at Ash's assured me they were high quality, and that they sold them all the time because of how popular they were. What I should've asked was how often people return them. Because when I got home that night and tried out my new toy, I was so disappointed. To be frank, these vaporizers are garbage. I put a pinch of dry herb in its corresponding chamber- all that came out was smoke, NOT VAPOR. It torched my goods, smelt like burning plastic, and the battery took 4 hours to charge, and then died after 20 minutes of being on. Now, I understand that most of this is the fault of the manufacturer. I'm not blaming Ash's for the vape not working. However, when I called them asking about returning it, all I received was attitude and a no return policy that no one warned me about when I made the purchase. They don't tell you this when you buy something, but they only offer exchanges on defective products that haven't been used. THEY DO NOT OFFER REFUNDS EVEN IF THEY SELL YOU BROKEN MERCHANDISE. He wouldn't even do a refund for the vape I never opened. He told me to forget about the one I used once- they won't do anything for you once it's been used. I politely asked how someone is supposed to know if a product is defective or not unless they used it first, and that was when the person on the phone (the same man who sold me the vaporizers) became confrontational and rude, and refused to speak about it any more. I was told if I wanted to say anything more on the matter, I had to come into the store. I thought that that was fair, until he hung up on me as I began to ask their about their hours. Excuse my french but that was when I realized this dude was a total dick. Overall, if you're looking to stop in and buy some papers or a little pipe, you should be fine. However if you're making a larger purchase, you're better off taking your business elsewhere. Because when you get home and shit hits the fan and your new stuff just doesn't work, THEY WILL NOT HELP YOU. Very very disappointing. read more

Like most of the other negative reviews for this place, I also had a bad experience. Everything here is way over priced compared to other local smoke shops. The quality of the products is also very cheap. If you are not looking to actually buy something then then you won't be helped out.
