    Furnace

DO NOT CALL ASHTON FOR YOUR FURNACE! Our furnace was on the fritz and we called Ashton to have a look. Our furnace is 12 years old and still looked serviceable but when the technician Moe from Ashton looked at it he said it needed a full replacement. He said we have carbon monoxide leakage and we had rusting in our furnace. He also left the unit open with all our plugs unplugged and said he would send a quote for replacing. The service charge for coming out was $220.00 for him not doing much. The worst part is he quoted us $7000-8000 for a new furnace. When I googled the approximate costs for a new furnace the prices were roughly half of my quotation from Ashton. I called Jon at Lion Mechanical (recommended by Cambie Plumbing) to have a look and he found the issue was a faulty control board. That was replaced and the furnace is working perfectly fine. He tested for carbon monoxide and his machine was showing readings of ZERO! We feel scammed by our experience. Don't let this happen to you. Call Jon at Lion Mechanical. He's awesome!

Was in a jam recently to fix a boiler in a newer home. The heat worked on one floor and other floor only worked at night. I totally expected the worst but these guy came through Technician diagnosed zero faulty parts. He said the builder had wired the upstairs and placed the thermostat by the return air duct 2 screws off and 2 screws to move the stat away Works perfectly now

We have used 1st Call to re&re a Pressure Reducing Valve as well as install a toilet while, and both times, we have found their personnel to be knowledgeable, well-trained, punctual, personable, informative, approachable, and professional. Their staff were helpful in that they provided some very useful advice such as what one might expect post work being completed without our asking, which is a rarity...i.e., such a that our water may be discoloured post the work being completed; or you may hear some noises from taps when using them as there will be air pockets that need to work themselves through the system. As well, experiential advice was offered, such as, we need to ensure we turn the water supply line to the toilets to fully open, and not leave them 1/3, 1/4, or 1/2 open, to avoid future issue with the valve. Pricing for their jobs are fair, as their labour rates are one of the more competitive in the market, and their rates for parts, although I found them to be on the higher side in terms of margins for one part, seem to be the industry standard for the most part. The most important question after dealing with a service provider is would you call them again and/or recommend them to your family and friends, and, in this case, for 1st Call, it would be a resounding "yes".

One day for the anticipated first appointment of which nobody showed and no calls or updates to the customer were made and a second day to make up for the lack of plumber on the first day. There were many calls made by us to Milani to find out if they were going to send anybody for time for the time window of 8-12 or if we would be pushed back yet another day. I think if we were not persistent with our side of communication it could have been a third day before we got help. Once we finally had a plumber, Raffy was very pleasant and respectful. He answered all of our questions and gave good advice to avoid future problems as well. Raffy was a pleasure to work with and it's unfortunate the events and lack of communication that led up to him showing up were not so impressive. I guess this is a good company for emergencies but we got shafted from the list for not being a major problem as it seemed.

Since support wasn't available at the time, a second appointment had to be scheduled. When the technician returned, additional troubleshooting was done, including time spent consulting with technical support. A diagnosis was eventually provided, but there was no clear or practical repair path presented. Instead, I was advised that replacing the furnace would likely be the best option. My main concern is that I was charged over $600 for the service calls and ultimately ended up in essentially the same position I started in: knowing the furnace had a problem, but without a repair solution. When a company charges by the hour, there needs to be trust that the time spent is moving efficiently toward a resolution. What I found particularly frustrating is that obtaining a quote for a furnace replacement is typically free. After spending more than $600, the outcome was a recommendation to replace the unit, which made the value of the repair visits difficult to justify. I ultimately decided not to proceed with Milani for the replacement because the experience did not leave me confident that I would receive good value for the cost.
