I've been with Ashton for over twelve years. They have great service and try to keep their appointments. I've had issues with them before but we're able to resolve them. My only advice is don't make afternoon appointments because they sometimes get backed up and have to cancel. The work they do is detailed and usually gets repaired the same day. They're not the cheapest but they're not the most expensive either. All in all I feel confident in their work. read more

They don't deserve even 1 star! I sued Ashton in court because they completely destroyed my shower wall! Even after the judge ordered them to pay for all the damage they caused, in addition to refunding my money, Ashton refused to obey the court order! The courts then had to issue a WARRANT for arrest to force them to pay! DO NOT HIRE ASHTON! I made the unfortunate mistake of hiring Ashton to replace a leaking faucet and they quoted me $1900. Instead of simply installing a new faucet as we had agreed, two plumbers from Ashton showed up and unnecessarily broke my existing tiles, damaged and removed the concrete around the pipes creating an enormous hole in my shower wall, replaced my old pipes, and then installed new pipes for the faucet several inches off center with no concrete. They then wanted $3600, insisting that I now had to pay $1500 for garbage disposal. Ashton later admitted they were aware the pipes were not centered and kept quiet hoping I would not notice. After Ashton finally straightened out the pipes, I had to hire someone to temporarily attach tiles to a non-existing wall. Ashton then sent the original plumber to incorrectly attach the new faucet! I wrote a letter to David Fowler, the service manager at Ashton, as well as to the President and Vice President. David said he would send a plumber to attach the fixture properly, but nobody ever showed up. I ended up having to hire a different plumber to finish the job. All I wanted was a replacement for my leaky bathtub faucet and ended up with a complete nightmare! The judge stated that I did not sue them for enough money! read more

DO NOT CALL ASHTON FOR YOUR FURNACE! Our furnace was on the fritz and we called Ashton to have a look. Our furnace is 12 years old and still looked serviceable but when the technician Moe from Ashton looked at it he said it needed a full replacement. He said we have carbon monoxide leakage and we had rusting in our furnace. He also left the unit open with all our plugs unplugged and said he would send a quote for replacing. The service charge for coming out was $220.00 for him not doing much. The worst part is he quoted us $7000-8000 for a new furnace. When I googled the approximate costs for a new furnace the prices were roughly half of my quotation from Ashton. I called Jon at Lion Mechanical (recommended by Cambie Plumbing) to have a look and he found the issue was a faulty control board. That was replaced and the furnace is working perfectly fine. He tested for carbon monoxide and his machine was showing readings of ZERO! We feel scammed by our experience. Don't let this happen to you. Call Jon at Lion Mechanical. He's awesome! read more

Shockingly UNRELIABLE service! I scheduled a service appointment for the boiler at my parent's place in Richmond and was told that the technician will show up between 12pm and 4pm and will notify about half an hour before they arrive. On the day of the appointment, they called 11 am to reschedule for the following week (same time slot) because a technician was sick. For the second appointment, I waited for an hour and no one called or showed up. When I called their office, the representative (Carlos) said that he would check and someone would call me back. An hour and a half later, no one called. When I called again, another representative (Stephanie) told me they could not make it that day. After I told her to cancel my appointment, she offered $100 credit and reschedule me for two days later. I rejected the offer saying that the credit is of no use to me if no body shows up for the service call as agreed. She assured me that she would personally notify me about the new appointment. On the day of the THIRD appointment, I traveled to my parent's place again and waited an hour. No call arrived from Ashton! When I called them, the representative (Carlos) told me he would check and call me back. And no one did! When I called the office again, another representative (Erin) told me that I got the time wrong and the appointment should have been the next day. I told her to check with Stephanie, who offered me the credit and new appointment. Erin kept saying that I got the time wrong. At that point, I told her to cancel my appointment and I will take my business elsewhere. She simply said OK. Funny enough, about half an hour later, Erin called me back and apologized that the technician could not make it and offered to reschedule it for the next day. I told her that altogether I wasted more than 10 hours waiting for service and they need to change their business practice. And I told her I will take my business elsewhere a second time. Poor customer service, unreasonable charge! I am a property manager. One of my tenant reported noise issue of the furnace. I called Ashton plumbing and gave them my credit card number. I told the customer service that I need an estimate before they replace any parts. The customer service said he would let technician know. However they never called me until I received the bill for around $30 thermocouple and around $500 labor. When I called customer service about the overtime labor, he told me the parts was a special model that the same service technician had to get one from company and come back to fix it. When I asked him why there was a 2nd technician being refused to access, he told me they did not charge me for the 2nd technician's visit. The invoice showed universal thermocouple, truck load, 2.5 hrs labor + 0.75 overtime labor. I checked my tenant and he said it was service by 2 technicians and most of an afternoon that should not OT rate. I cannot imagine what had happened. Very poor customer service and ridiculous billing because of their mistake. read more

I had one of their Techs come over to look at our HVAC and rather than fixing a serviceable unit their solution is to replace the whole unit at double the price on the market. We had a freon leak and the Tech say that they do not repair leaks and only do replacements. I knew I needed a second opinion and the Tech was able to refill my freon leak for $400. They are professional and legitimate company however I think they are wanting to make the big bucks and won't provide smaller repairs. I gave them 2 stars because I think their Technicians choses what they want to fix and what they don't. I am a long time customer but this summer getting any , service, trying to set a service date -- no shows times 2 and no call from office to let me know. Extremely high fixed prices for A /C repair and waited a month for part (motherboard) that was supposed to take a week. Difficult to even get thru on the phone to ask about arrival impossible "we are doing our best but we are short staffed" . Calls never returned. This a huge change for the Ashton of years past when they were on top of their customer service and delivery. We had the heat and cold systems both installed by Ashton and it was great job for the heat side but the AC side has been having issues since the first day. But we still ok with it as the system has been working for 2.5 years brand new. So this year in March when I asked for specific mechanic who knows our system do the maintainence works. The office said ok and they scheduled but cancelled me twice and rescheduled them. In July, office promised to send me the service tech I was requested for, ended up with huge disappointment with a DIFFERENT tech who has no knowledge of my system came in and I have to start with ground zero for him. Our system is unique and there were a few parts that Ashton did and config at site while we using the existing piping from HVAC system. Wasted my time and now the AC finally gave up. I have got now an excellent company that dealing with it. Instead of too low refrigerant Ashton was telling me, we found out it has been too much in the system. The plumber replaced my toilet for $1000. He took it upon himself to check my toilets & furnace & found faults. He told me the furnace was installed improperly & I should get the installer to come & redo it. He sold me the NoProblems Plan of free inspections - pipes, furnace, filters, drains etc., but they did not do a single thing on the plan. My sister called them because she found a wet spot in her house & thought she had a leak. She called Ashton & they told her she needed a new sump at $2500. She wanted a second opinion & time to think about it. In the meantime, she had her roof cleaned & the cleaner told her she had a leak in the drain. This water from her roof had leaked into her house! I would never recommend Ashton to do anything. read more

I made the mistake of not asking for a quote up front, thinking that most well reviewed plumbing / heating companies would be roughly the same cost. I agreed to the estimate they gave onsite since I had already taken the time off and needed the problem fixed, but paid over $560 for a simple part and less than 1 hour of work. Worse though was that this didn't fix the problem, and 2 missed appointments and a crazy high estimate later, I cut my losses and called another plumber who fixed the problem for 1/3 what Ashton quoted. So ask for a quote up front from them or any plumber, and better yet use a smaller plumbing company that will take more accountability. I have been dealing with Ashton for years and have always found them responsive. There has been some front office problems lately but every business, esp during the pandemic, has had their problems. For the last couple of years, I've had Jay Lin service my furnace, getting it ready for the winter. He is punctual, very professional, thorough and knowledgeable, answering all my questions in a clear and concise manner. I will definitely be asking for Jay again in the future. We hired Ashton to install a ductless air conditioning unit for our duplex, and were very happy with the work by Ben and Mike, and the electrician they brought in. They worked quickly and did a tidy job, and were pleasant to have around. When the system needed a couple adjustments after installation, they were able to come back out within a few days. The system works well, and does just what it should. While it was more expensive than we initially thought it might be when we started looking into it, it was worth it both for our comfort at home (I have a medical condition that gives me very poor heat tolerance) and for our peace of mind, since we could tell the job they did was very professional and that we won't end up with any buyer's remorse. We'd actually gotten a much lower quote from another well rated company before speaking with Jeff from Ashton who did the home visit and quote, and the salesman from the other company (who made us sit through an extremely long, irrelevant pitch about their company before he would even discuss options and a quote) actually told us they wouldn't be able to put a unit in our bedroom because it would be too difficult/dangerous to use a ladder to get to the second story of our home (we were a bit perplexed by this). He tried to sell us a cheaper solution that we had a bad gut feeling about, saying it would be just as good. Now that we have the unit Ashton installed in place, we are so relieved we went with them instead, as the cheaper hack of a solution clearly wouldn't have done an adequate job. While it costed more, Ashton's installers had no problem doing the work despite our somewhat challenging duplex structure, and we know we actually got the right system for our home and will be happy with it for years to come. And for what it's worth, while it did cost more than we expected when we started looking into getting AC, a friend had a similar system installed in the states, and they paid nearly the exact same amount, so we're confident this is the going rate for a high quality install. read more

Something has fundamentally changed at Ashton - this time their work was poor, not to code, incomplete, and they were rude and threatening when we asked them to make it right. It appears that senior management changed and now there is nobody doing quality control. I called and booked a service and was told no charge for coming in and will only give me a quotation and we go from there. The technician showed up and suggested cleaning the water heating system and I asked him to email me a quotation and I will let him know after I talk to the landlord and he agreed!!! Then he called the manufacturer to ask them what part he needs to included in his quotation and I told him not once twice that I have to go to work and he has to leave and he can email me the quotation, he refused and said in order to get quotation he needs to speak to them, and he insisted to wait for them. I told him politely that I need to go to work and he insisted again to wait for them,,,, finally after they answered he figured out what parts he needs and finally he left and all he said before leaving that he will send the quotation by email. 10 minutes later I received a $361.33 invoice from him . We wanted to install an on-demand, efficient water heater to replace our old hot water tank and replace our gas furnace with a Mitsubishi cold weather heat pump. We interviewed four or five different companies and chose Ashton because the advisor, Mo took his time to assess our needs and the challenges of our very limited space. The water heater was installed quickly but shipments of the Mitsubishi were delayed overseas so it took longer than expected to get the heat pump. Mo kept us advised throughout. Make sure you get a quote before you commit to this place. $400 for a furnace service call - fixed rate. Could 'transfer' the $75 call out fee into this membership that gives you some 'free inspections' for 3 months along with a couple of free furnace filters and water detectors. Lots of push to upgrade to a newer, more efficient furnace. Luckily a couple of other up sells were declined. $200 thermostat and $400 capacitor replacements. Checked on Amazon and furnace capacitors run for about $25. read more

I arranged a service appointment for my parents who had a leaking garburator every time they ran their dishwasher. Setting up the appointment was fine, the service technician was fine but when it came to the $700 bill, it was not so fine. My parents were told an email would be sent with the invoice. I later contacted Ashton because we didn't receive an invoice. An invoice came the same day but there was no breakdown of the cost so I couldn't determine parts vs labour. When I asked for the breakdown I was told the price was an upfront cost as there was no hourly rate. Not impressed and won't be using them again. read more

I first used them to come and clean out my drains, I must say it was very costly for a simple drain clean.. it wasn't the best job either. The technician seemed inexperienced and had difficulty removing access hatches. Left a very dirty floor and spray on the countertop and walls.. I joined there service membership and when it came time to use my free yearly furnace inspection, I was informed the payment hadn't gone through, so I was technically not a member. I opted out of the membership, but they honoured the free service anyway.. The technician spent a good hour and went over my 25 yr boiler, cleaned it, bled the lines of air..There was no attempt at up selling or having me buy parts I didn't need.. he was professional and clean.. you could tell he loved what he does.. So other than the not so good and pricy drain clean. I would give this company 5 stars.. Oct 30,2017 Called Ashton again for a leak in my home boiler system. They did a thorough job. I recently wrote a 4 or 5 star review for an almost 30,000$ install we had done. They were very professional and did the job quickly in a very friendly manner. Naturally there were a very few problems with this large an install . The exhaust tube for the furnace was to be on the east side of the house but ended up on the west side pointing right towards the neighbours bedroom window- -the off/on swich for the furnace was placed on the wall which prevents the rec room door from fully opening-- and the main floor shower occaisionally gives you a squirt of cool water on its own initiative. As part of the deal we are to have a 2 hour "walk through" when the job was finished. Partly through our fault and their fault we are still waiting. When I phoned yesterday I was told we had received the walk through according to our file. I have a portable air conditioning unit in our wine cellar. It vents into a hot room and has stopped working. I called this place as they have a great rating and I wanted to have someone come in to assess a better solution for this room and to give me a quote on installing air conditioning into the rest of my home. First of all they have voice mail you have to go through before talking to a live person. Once I got through to Arlene I explained the above and she started talking about how they don't service portable units. I thought maybe I hadn't explained myself properly so I tried again, using different words. I explained I didn't want the unit repaired I wanted advice on how to keep the room cool from someone with knowledge and experience. She reaffirmed they don't work on portable air conditioners. I explained a third time I don't want them to even look at it. I want someone to look at the room, the situation and give me a solution. She then tartly informed me they don't work on portable air conditioners. At this point I tartly informed her I didn't want them to and since she was so obviously not listening to my words I would call somewhere else. Really not impressed. read more

In the end, the problem was not even solved and they gave me another quote for $2000 if I wanted it repaired. First these pirates come and charge me $550 to switch out a $10 thermocouple and install a $20 thermostat (which took about 30 minutes). I get it, it's a business, but that's still a prime example of price gouging. But then, to take the cake, as soon as their service guy leaves their salesman comes by and tries to give me a scare-tactic high-pressure close on buying a new furnace from them right away. I was looking to have a cast iron kitchen sink and new faucet installed in an older home. I called 4 plumbing companies before calling Ashton. All were either unable, unavailable or unwilling to stretch their service area by 4 blocks, even though I was requesting a date more than 3 weeks ahead of time! Ashton was pleasant and accommodating from the from very first contact. Arlene was very courteous and professional. She arranged to have a technician onsite the next day to spec the job and give me a quote. He was very thorough and inspected the plumbing throughout the entire house and made some recommendations without being pushy. I kept to the original request for the sink and faucet. The date and time were arranged and confirmed at the time of the quote. Arlene called the morning of the install to let me know traffic was delaying the arrival of the technician. No problem for me and very much appreciated the communication. Dave M. arrived approx. 25 minutes late. Extremely personable and professional. Got to work right away cleaning up some of the previous sub-par work that had been done in previous years. Then while installing the sink he found the existing drains I had been told would work by the sales rep actually didn't fit. He called his supplier had them pull 2 for him and he went to pick them up. Upon return he installed everything perfectly. The work area was kept clean and tidy the whole time and all the waste was taken away. I highly recommend Ashton and specifically the team of Dave and Arlene. read more

Okay if you are in a jam and need some help. I'm quite sure I was overcharged. But we had a major emergency. They have an odd service structure with many technicians/staff involved in booking and billing. While the senior technicians seem skilled, they are not always the ones doing the work, most are working with multiple apprentices who are making mistakes and need to be taught along the way, taking up more time on big jobs. At our house, apprentice errors needed to be redone/corrected. The guys are all nice enough. But their customer service in their call-in centre are quite deceptive to the point of almost lying. I asked if something could be invoiced differently and the woman on the line said yes she'd check but clearly hadn't (given that she'd emailed me the invoice while we were on the phone - obviously hadn't checked prior to actually sending the invoice on). She also seemed to blame the on site plumber ("he should have...").. It signals non-collegial working relationships, and raises suspicions about who said what to whom about what part of your job/billing, where no suspicions need to be fostered. If I'm paying over 10,000 for major work, you'd think they'd be a bit more accessible to explaining an invoice. Overall, it felt like a too-big company relying a lot on a handful of on-site techs to do the heavy lifting of customer service.. much of which was undone/undermined by their ineffective/flaccid call/support staff. read more

i called their office to get a quote on replacing the hoses from the taps to my washing machine and was told that they do not quote or give a ballpark price over the phone. they would send a technician over for $79 and they will price it after taking a closer look... I was told they do not charge by the hour, only by the job. I was uncomfortable having someone in without any idea how much it may cost.
