I had a problem with my unit's HVAC. I tried to contact two other companies prior calling Riroxs. It was quite an experience. The first company, recommended by my building's manager, did not care at all. It took them 5 days just to contact me to schedule their technician to come. No business for them. The second company diagnosed my HVAC on the phone saying that they had looked at so many of them that there was no need to pay for the technician's visit...save money. Having said that they gave me an estimate of ~$6 850 to fix my hit pump. Murky approach. Riroxs Refrigeration. I filled out a service request on their website at 9:00 am. 9:15 am they got back to me and scheduled a visit. The next day they came to my unit at the exact time we had scheduled before (super rare in Vancouver), diagnosed my problem, ordered the replacement (a vent motor), and installed it two days after. They are punctual, no upselling, no big talks other than "yes, we will fix it", and their rates are very reasonable. I ended up paying one-fourth of the estimate given by the other company. Strongly recommend them if you want your problem to get fixed, and fixed fast. read more

Our heat pump and furnace was installed by another company in April of 2011. In the fall 2011, the heat pump seemed to have stopped working for some reason. The previous company was extremely unhelpful and refused to come on-site to look at the problem. I found Riroxs on Craigslist and after e-emailing late one evening to see if they could have a look, I received a nice e-mail reply the next morning from Roxana saying that they could definitely help me out and would be glad to assist in any way. She told me their availability for that week. I had a few more questions for them over email and they answered promptly. I had also e-mailed a few other companies that I found on Craigslist, and after mulling them over for a few weeks, I e-mailed Riroxs and booked an appointment. Ricardo and Roxana came over and the first thing Ricardo did was show me his certification. I was a bit surprised because I had never seen one before (the previous installers never showed me anything like that or mentioned their credentials). They investigated the problem and determined there was a leak in the system. Their basic minimum charge for the call-out and diagnosing the problem in order to provide a more detailed quote was $123.20 including taxes. They gave me a detailed quote for about one day's work to find exactly where the leak was, then to fix it, and refilling the pipes with gas, etc... They came over either the next day or the day after and worked all day and into the evening trying to find the leak. They found the leak (which was tough to find, it was just near the point where the pipe entered the house so they missed it initially as it was just before the point where he cut the pipe to isolate the in-house section). Throughout the process they explained everything that they were seeing and explained to me what they were doing. After repairing the leak they performed lots of testing on the pipes and heat pump to ensure that there was no more leak both with vacuum and with pressurized air. Then even tested carefully the operation of the system with the thermostat and discovered another problem: the heat pump was going on at the same time as the auxiliary heat (gas furnace). This is a big problem as it caused very high pressure in the pipes, over and above what they are rated for (they measured this high pressure as well). They suspected that this was the root cause for the heat pump pipe leak. They left the heat pump off to protect the pipes, and said they would come and have a look at the thermostat another day to see what the problem was. They came a couple days later to look at the thermostat wiring. The original installer had wired it incorrectly! Or at the very least, had wired it correctly, but the particular thermostat they used was not capable of only using the heat pump OR the gas furnace at a time in heat mode. My understanding from reading the internet is that our thermostat indeed can't do this, and I need a better thermostat or a "fossil fuel kit" hooked up between the furnace and the thermostat in order for this to work properly and not cause high pressure in the pipes. They fixed the wiring, and basically made it so that my thermostat would only use the heat pump and would only use the gas furnace (ONLY) when in emergency mode. The last thing they did was help me select a new thermostat when I said that I wasn't happy with having to turn the emergency mode on manually all the time if the heat pump couldn't keep up. I've also had a few more issues with the heat pump and they have provided me with free warranty service to look at the problem. Ricardo is very helpful over e-mail and always responds on the same day. Their per hour labour rates are reasonable and they gave me a 10% discount on the labour for the big job, charged me for only 9 hours instead of 10 and waived the call-out fee. This is the second time I've called them in to replace my refrigerators (2 different units), so I can safely give them an honest review. I've called them in to give me a quote on my front display cooler replacement. That being my first time, I was apprehensive of the price going into 5-digit range, but Rocardo, one of the owners of Riroxs, gave me a more reasonable price than that. Straight off the bat, I knew the guy meant business. He started asking me questions, first general, then specific about the coolers and my time available to fix them. I truly expected the job to take 3-4 days. Next day I received a quote with all parts and services outlined clearly and specifically. I had a question, just to be exactly sure, and Ricardo has answers my question above my expectations. He went into details that I understood only because I am an engineering student myself. The man sure knows his stuff. Replacement was done in a single day. Ricardo and Roxanne, another engineer of Riroxs, have come in at 8 am and took out our old cooling unit within a few hours. Their preparation was total - every tool was available and every fluid/gas they had to use was in abundance. I never had reason to fear that they would stall in the middle of the job, like others have in the past. I have to admire the perseverance of the couple, since they had worked early morning to very late night. Every system was checked and rechecked. I loved their work. The two certainly worked together for a while. For a year, I hadn't had a single issue with the new cooling unit. The second time I called them in was to replace a walk-in cooler's fan and cooling unit. Ricardo has kept his standards of practice and quality. I had him take a look at the whole system, got a quote the next day. Three weeks later, we had a scheduled replacement. From early morning to midnight, Ricardo and Roxanne have worked on the cooler, taking out a very old and bulky unit, then putting in a new and improved one. Again, Ricardo has proven that he works with high quality wares. He installed and worked with precision, coordinated with his wife in harmony, and persevered with a difficult cooler unit until it was done. He even never showed that he was tired, if he ever was. Does this company deserve 5 stars instead of 4? Yes. I've never had such professional and competent work. What made them stand out, other than work? They're personable, rather than just workers. I have two offices. One side had a working HVAC unit. The other side did not. I had put off doing any work on the malfunctioning unit for more than 6 months as the "other side" was mostly empty. Our boardroom, some storage, and a second meeting room. A couple of space heaters and I figured we would be okay to go. Lo and behold, 6 months later, circumstances changed and we had to get it fixed. I emailed Rirox via their website on a Sunday night and received a response by early next morning (Monday) from Roxanne. They were able to send out a technician to evaluate the problem that same day! Ricardo came by late in the morning and gave me the same assessment that a few other guys had also given me. The unit was beyond repair. Etiher by sabotage or incompetence, whoever worked on it last, left it in a state of disrepair and damage, and that it would be more reasonable to replace than repair. Ricardo gave me 3 options: 1). The best one; 2). the cheapest one; and 3). the middleground approach, and explained the pros and cons of each. Well, it's not building. I just lease the space, and so I went for the cheapest solution. But I am glad that he gave me the options because no one else did. It would take several days for the parts to arrive, but Ricardo spent the better part of an entire day installing the full system for us. Now we have heat, and in the summer, will have A/C. Winner! I called Rirox after reading several good recommendations on-line, all spoke highly of Ricardo and his professionalism. I decided to book an appointment for the following day. I should give a bit of back ground first, we bought and renovated a home about 9 years ago, to maximize ceiling space in the basement and to save running duct work along the ceiling we were talked into putting the furnace in the attic, which we did. I did the majority of the contracting myself, and knew this option wasn't outlandish. Unfortunately the installer/technician created several problems which would manifest and show themselves several years later. The long and short of it was after 9 yrs. The heat exchanger was cracked, the furnace was under powered for the square footage of our home and the condensate hose and pump leaked, causing a terrible stain on our ceiling. Getting back to Rirox, Ricardo arrived and set to work looking at and diagnosing why we had a water leak and what else was possibly wrong with the furnace. He performed a few tests and after a few minutes discovered the source of the leak and the cracked heat exchanger. I really liked Ricardo's honesty and straightforwardness he discussed our options and gave a detailed estimate the next day for replacing the furnace. I wish I could say we used Ricardo and Rirox for the install, but we ended up going with a different installer. My reason, the company and installer specifically had done work for us before with our hot water on demand installation and was familiar with our home, the gas service, and things related to the furnace replacement. Of the three quotes we received from different companies, Rirox was competitive and second in price. I would not hesitate to use Rirox or recommend them to friends and family, it's just unfortunate that certain things about our home dictated otherwise.
