Badam, sounds more like an Arab super hero, than it does almond milk. BADAM!!
    Rony M.

In college I dated an exchange student from the London School of Economics, she was basically the human version of the United Nations. Born in Israel, ethnically Turkish, spoke Greek, and practiced a customized version of Sunni Islam. Hande didn't cover her hair with a hijab or abstain from alcohol, but was tyrannical about observing religious holidays and not eating haraam (forbidden) foods. We met just before Ramadan, the month of fasting, and she spent that time starving and jittery from nicotine withdrawal. Towards the end of the month she was starting to get delirious, and probably imagined I was a walking-talking İskender kabob and get uncomfortably close to smokers to inhale their breath. I needed to cheer her up. After a successful Ebay mission to get a carton of Lark cigarettes, I was on a quest find Halaal meat. The only problem was Miami isn't Dearborn, Michigan with the nation's largest Muslim community. This was pre-Yelp so by sheer luck I found a Pakistani cabbie outside of Club Space, and he pointed me to Asia Grocery. It not only had what I was looking for but these treats as well -- A menu of seven homestyle items cooked to order. The whole bill of fare costs $20 and will feed 2 big, 3 average, or 4 small people. Having not even seen a South Asian until I got to my first college-level Chemistry class, I had no idea what I was eating. For your benefit here's a brief glossary -- Paratha: buttery fried bread. Chicken Tikka: marinated in yogurt, butter and spices, then baked in a clay oven and served with a cucumber/onion/tomato salad. Rolls: beef kabab (spicy ground meat), chicken kabab (saffron-spiced) or vegi (curried legumes and vegetables) wrapped in a paratha. Samosa: fried pastry stuffed with spiced garbanzos, potatoes, peas and carrots served with chili sauce. I washed it all down with some freaky drinks. It was a bit of trial and error as I tried an Aampanna (green mango) juice box that was saltier than licking Paula Deen's armpit. As an encore I tried Ayran (mint yogurt drink) that's similar to lapping up a Yoplait that someone that doesn't like you dashed against the ground at the Bonneville salt flats. These are some I enjoyed -- Badam: sounds like something a pimp from the '70s would say, "I went BADAM! on those jive turkeys!" but it's really almond milk available in regular, chocolate or saffron flavor. Basil Seed Drink: feels like you're drinking a bottle of insect larvae but tastes like the goddess of love Kamadeva herself poured you a glass of honey-wine. Idris Fiery: ginger beer with hands that will literally choke you with hot hot heat. After trying sweets made from lentils (Jaangiri) I decided to go the more familiar route and purchased Kulfi (frozen custard). The flavors made me realize why the spice trade began in the first place...Falooda (rose), Kesar (saffron) and Pista (pistachio). Asia Grocery is a scaled-down version of the Anarkali Market in Lahore, Pakistan which sells anything and everything from instruments to rice cookers. If you need any help don't be afraid to ask any of the employees of this family-owned business. They're a treasure trove of information for where to buy saris, best tea for making chai or recommendations for Hindi films. I counted down the end of Ramadan to the minute and made my entrance bearing cancer-sticks from England, meats blessed by a cleric, and potatoes (Polish vodka). We watched the Bollywood rom-com, Salaam-Namaste, and then I serenaded her with Modern English's lyrics "I'll stop the world an melt with you" while using a kulfi popsicle as a microphone. It was a night worth waiting 43829 minutes for.

I'm so happy I found this place. I found everything I was looking for and more. Small but clean and organized. They have really tasty food. I forgot the names sadly. Great prizes. You can find a little bit of everything there. The gentlemen in the front were so nice and spoke Spanish really well which was great since my mother had a few questions and she doesn't speak English. Wonderful customer service, extremely helpful and polite. I will tell my friends and family about this place and will be returning.

They offer free parking for two hours (a big win in Miami), and the selection goes way beyond snacks: soups, Asian chips, frozen entrées and appetizers like shrimp or noodle snacks, even Thai canned soups. You could literally set up a full-course meal just from their shelves. I also love that they even carry cutlery, so they've got you covered from shopping to serving. And a special shoutout to Marissa at the register, she's always super helpful and genuinely happy to assist, which makes the shopping experience much better. It never gets super packed so you can easily enjoy and take time to contemplate all the different treats they offer. It is kept super clean and organize, which makes the Asian experience more enjoyable!

I've been coming to the Roasters original Pinecrest location for 26 years. And for most of those Ivan has been working Sunday mornings! Their bagels are always on point, which I usually request to be scooped and toasted (my technique is cream cheese first, then whitefish salad inside the scoop) and come in all the good flavors, but none of the not a bagel flavors. Their nova comes in multiple grades (regular and Acme(tm)) which is sliced by Florida's top professional "nova slayer" in such a way that it is just better than the best you'll have anywhere else. Enter fresh Florida fisheries I popped in on Saturday morning and was immediately impressed how fresh all of the seafood looked and how organized it was basically you order at the counter. The staff is super knowledgeable and they will prep your fish for you however you like. Then they give you a number for your order when you pay, and then you wait for your number to be called. I knew I was looking for for tuna, and my eyes definitely wandered at the selection of fish! The person who helped me was super friendly, suggested the amount that I should be ordering for the party size and was able to clean the fish for me. I also thought that the price was super reasonable for fresh locally caught tuna it was 2499 a pound I got a little bit under 3 pounds for just around $70 and it was incredible. I will definitely be back to explore more of the seafood options that they have. Fish is something that I love to eat, but don't often buy from a grocery store because I get a little weirded out at the quality. Knowing that this is so close to my house with high-quality fish for a great price will make me a returning customer for sure. Parking is pretty chill and easy in their front lot and I'm sure you can park down the street if it's a really busy day. Will be back.

If so, I…read morewould have come at a time where I was hungry and for a mere five dollars had them prepare my meal for me. But that being said, I found it to be a very nice fish market. Now there is a huge downside that you immediately encounter when you arrive. The parking lot is exceptionally small and people are parked every which way, except in the spaces. Getting to the actual building will take some time. The neighboring lots have pretty clear signs that they will tell you if you park there. So you're stuck dealing with what it is. The fish variety is good, although not great. If you're looking for strictly local fish, you'll probably find what you want. Several varieties of snapper and the fish looked wonderful and fresh. Some of my favorites like hogfish and grouper. You can buy the whole fish and they'll fillet it for you or you can buy fillets if they have them of the fish that you want. But the part I missed is having them cook it for me. Now that is something I would like to try next time The downside is they strictly local fish. You won't find any flatfish and I was surprised that they did not have any U4 or U6 shrimp which I like to use to make paella. In addition, I did not see fresh scallops. They did have some nice lobster tails although I did not see other shellfish. Some people have said the prices are reasonable; I found them about 20 to 30% higher than other fish markets I visit. The people here are really nice in the market is attractive. I will be back as I said to get a meal cooked for me in part because it is closer than the fish markets I usually visit and also my curiosity after reading other reviews. I recommend this market if you have the patience to wait for a parking space. If you're looking for the larger shrimp for paella look elsewhere

It was well worth the drive! The selection is outstanding. The market carries authentic pantry staples, seasonings, and frozen ingredients that are difficult to find even at larger international markets. Many of these items are not available anywhere else locally. Everything was well stocked, clearly stored, and fresh (and not about to expire in a month, iykyk), which matters greatly for specialty ingredients. There is also a thoughtful selection of Peruvian merchandise, including jerseys, flags, rosaries, and huayruros. These details reinforce the cultural care behind the space. Another highlight is the freshly prepared Peruvian food on-site. They offer tamales, sandwiches, hot coffee, smoothies, and desserts typically found only at a Peruvian bakery. They made the changes for me without issue, or grievance. Personally, raw meat gives me the major ick. My OCD goes into panic mode when I have to handle the meat. I even use gloves (wish I didn't, but maybe I'll work on that in therapy). Point of the matter is that I have gone to several butcher shops in town in an effort to find better quality meat. A horrible dining experience at Ghee Indian Kitchen…read more The restaurant has a very nice ambiance. The decor is sophisticated and modern, and the lighting is pleasant, perfect for a date. I also liked that the kitchen is open and integrated with the dining room. However, the service was terrible from the moment I arrived. I had an OpenTable reservation and stood waiting over 15 minutes at the host stand. The host disappeared, leaving me standing awkwardly in the middle of the server pathway while servers carrying trays had to ask me to move. I ordered the tasting menu. The snacks were the best part of the night: * Yellowfin Tuna Bhel: Spectacular, the best dish of the entire night. * Samosa Chaat: Quite good. * Green Papaya Salad: Average. * Charred Corn: Good but nothing special. * Crispy Broccoli: Phenomenal, one of the highlights. * Peri Peri Chicken Wings: Good, especially the sauce. However, after the snacks they made me wait more than 20 minutes with an empty table (the restaurant was half empty) before bringing any main courses. The main courses were very disappointing: * Chicken Tikka Masala: The worst I've ever had. Extremely bland. * Kerala Lamb Curry: Very average and completely flavorless. * Dal Makhani: Decent, the only acceptable as a side. * Turmeric Marinated Fish Curry: Excellent, the only main worth eating. * Seed Naan: Served burnt (they replaced it after I complained). The servers mumbled so badly when explaining the dishes that it was nearly impossible to understand what I was eating. In a tasting menu, having clear and proper explanations of each dish before eating it is very important, and that was completely lacking. I also asked four times for the house spicy sauce to two different servers and it was never brought. To make matters WORSE, when a friend stopped by to say hello and tried just two bites of my food, the staff aggressively confronted and pressured me, insisting that he had to pay for a full tasting menu. Their behavior made me feel like I was being scammed and left me extremely uncomfortable. I went very excited to this restaurant because of the great reviews, but it was a big letdown that completely ruined my date and dinner experience.
