I have been wanting to visit this market for a while & finally I was there! For those of you who love to DIY Burmese food, you may wanna visit there! Ingredients for tealeaves salad, kauk-tswae (noodle), moah-ghin-kah (curry ginger based catfish soup eaten with rice noodle), own-noad-kwak-tswae (coconut based curry chicken soup eaten with Chinese noodle), etc. you are in luck here. I was there right before they were closing. So, not much pix were taken. The lighting was dim. But I could still find the ingredients that I was looking for. Besides, Burmese food ingredients, this place also cater most Asian vegetables, meat, and food items. The older lady at the register counter was friendly, patient, and helpful. Parking is limited but street parking are available. No ev chargers are available in the parking lot. I honestly dont like this place but its walking distance from my apartment and I begrudgingly frequent this establishment. The staff is friendly enough, but CHECK THE EXPIRATION DATES ON EVERYTHING. I have bought moldy tofu and expired items on numerous occasions. It's either they don't know that they sell rotten products or they do know and dont care. NOT GOOD. A much bigger market to shop at. I stopped here after a meeting in the area, and I wanted to try them out on the way home. I found lots of interesting Burmese food and seasonings. I went to buy fish and few other items. Once I chose the fish I wanted and the man started cleaning them another lady came in and he started to help her. At first I was bothered but chose not to say anything. He did again and this time stopped working on my order. I left the cart and the store. New owners AGAIN! As of July 11 2023 the nice Myanmar family (of Indian origin) that previously took over call it quits in just two years, due to lack of help as I was told. During their short tenure the market was actually doing pretty well due to the many varieties they've added such as a Burmese (Myanmar) section and ready to eat food, they even added a 'sushi' station! The new owner now is Pakistani-American. The store is being gutted out during my last recent visit on July 14 as we speak. It was a mess and I had to ask. According to sources he will be using a good amount of space as a wholesale business. Now I don't know what the fate will be but from what I'm hearing it doesn't sound too interesting, but do hope I am wrong about this! Will most of the signature 'Asian' items be revamped with new additions or will they turned the market into something entirely different? Whatever it is I hope they'll retained and make additional improvements. Roaming the Asian markets in search of ingredients for various Chinese dishes, I decided that Asia supermarket was a bit closer than the big Cali Mart on the same Valley Blvd in Alhambra. The difference nevertheless is huge: Asia Supermarket is much smaller, not as organized and the choices are more limited obviously. The personnel does not speak English so one is on his own to decipher some labels or get advice. They were otherwise friendly but is there a difference between Oyster flavored sauce or premium Oyster sauce? Big mystery so I settled for the premium at twice the $ hoping for the best. The vegetable department looked a little tired and I did not venture to the meat and fish as it looked crowded. In summary, I found what i was looking for but the experience was not as good as Cali mart so next time, I will drive the extra miles! read more

This is the worst Supermarket I ever been. Expensive, bad attitude. The Fish department clerk pretending not hearing you and even curse clients. I think may be his boss didnt pay him right or he was yelled at by his wife, or got off his bed from the wrong side. But whatever happened to him, he shouldn't yelled at or curse his clients. I asked the sick and tired old owner to discipline his worker. He answered : Do not tell me what to do in my store! Ok. This tells me that they all hate to serve the clients. This is the best Asian market in the neighborhood where you can find anything you name for here. It locates on Valley and Atlantic next to the Starbucks and Chase. Their specialty are the groceries products that are from Thailand and Myanmar. They staffs are so helpful and friendly. The price is cheaper than other markets nearby. The good: You can find yeast here! Many American markets have been out of yeast since COVID hit but I found that many Asian markets still carry it. They carried many Chinese and Vietnamese food items that I would need. They have a huge assortment of instant ramens. They also have an aisle for Hispanic foods. This is a medium to large sized Asian market compared to others in the area. I liked how nice and neat their produce was. I got bok choy and bananas that looked very fresh. The bad: The parking lot isn't small but it isn't super spacious either. I was in an awkward position where 4 cars, myself included, were all trying to get by or back out and everyone was taking too long and awkwardly not moving forward during the right times. They have moon cake but the selection is small. I was also looking for some Korean snacks but they didn't have the one I was looking for. This is definitely more of a Chinese market. This is a place closer to where I live. I go there for many year. One day found out they over charged me for something I didn't buy. I let it go. The Second time the bill came up about 30 something dollars. 2 days later I see it was charged to my bank account three times as much, $90. i wanted to go back to the place and get to the bottom of it, but I could not find the receip. So I'm gonna let it go, and will NEVER again set foot in this place again. Sneaky business. I've learned my lesson. So, when you guys check out, count the items and make sure they match up with the items on the receipt before you leave the place. Keep the receipt for few days until the charging is cleared. Ive done my laundry next door for months and I've never been inside this store. So a couple days ago I decided to get a drink from there instead of Starbucks. I grabbed a Gatorade and saw two lines open both with a customer in each. I went to the one with less items and immediately this elderly Asian woman yells at me "Closed go to next one". So I went to the other checkout and as I'm walking I see an Asian gentleman carrying 5/6 different fruits and vegetables and he's walking towards the same checkout I was just yelled "closed" to. I went to shop at this Asian store in Alhambra since a month ago, and so far I've bought things there for a few times. Their price is not the cheapest, but the groceries are ok, and they stock plenty of Asian snacks and spices. They do stock relatively inexpensive fruits like small honey oranges. However, do NOT buy any refrigerated items from them, as I bought a few of the refrigerated items such as Japanese ramen package, beefballs, and fishballs there. Upon returned home and tried to cook the ramen, I found molds on the noodles and they are spoiled. The beefballs were not fresh neither as the small tendon bits are soft in texture, instead of the usual crunchy texture, and the fishballs were more fishy than other places. I guess their aging fridge is not cold enough. In addition, the refrigerated item prices are on par with the more expensive Randh 99 markets, so no bargain for these items and not worth the risk. I guess the meats may be the same, and I avoid shopping meats from Chinese supermarket long times ago after I bought a bag of stink chicken wings from Ranch 99 market in Cupertino village long time ago. (1997) In conclusion, I will come back to shop here, but just for the veggies, fruits, snacks and spices. read more
