I'm traveling for work from NYS and I found Yama on Yelp. I can't say enough about the entire experience!!!! The fish was some of the freshest I have ever had in a restaurant. The rolls were absolutely stuffed with fresh fish (I had the sunset roll and a spicy tuna roll and two pieces of sashimi... tuna and salmon) the sashimi pieces were HUGE. Melt in your mouth tender and flavorful. The rice was minimal (as it should be in my opinion) on the rolls ... allowing full enjoyment of the contents ! Really appreciated the amount of ginger and wasabi!! Did not skimp! My only complaint is that my eyes were bigger than my stomach and I couldn't finish the rolls! Lol! That's on ME! Probably should have ordered one not two. they r quite big. The service was amazing , nicest people ever!! The service here was genuinely wonderful, which makes this review a little difficult. We were welcomed with edamame at the table, and during our meal they also brought us complimentary spring rolls and even a piece of cheesecake. Everyone was incredibly friendly and generous. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite match the service. We tried three different sushi rolls and a noodle dish. The noodle dish was the more successful choice; none of the sushi rolls really landed for us. I truly appreciated the hospitality and all the thoughtful extras, but if I'm choosing a restaurant specifically for sushi, this wouldn't be one I'd return to. We had a superb experience at Yamachen Sushi. The restaurant is modern, clean, and well decorated, with mostly booth seating. We ordered the kani salad, sashimi lunch, and the pick two lunch special. Fantastic service and food with a peaceful atmosphere with friendly, accommodating staff. We were here closer to the holiday season and it felt like a great treat. They gave us cheesecake, edamame, and a small bag of chocolates all on the house! We had such a friendly waitress who chatted with us a bit about our holiday plans. My friend and I were the first to walk in when they opened up for the evening. The dining area is bright and inviting and VERY clean!! Our waitress was also very attentive and friendly. On Thursday evening, Sophia and I joined up with members of our social group for dinner. We've been here many, many times, but the rest was present for their first ever visit. Every time we've stopped by, we left satisfied with our meal. Let's see if the streak continues here. After everyone arrived, it was onto ordering. For apps, we selected fried gyoza and my main course was the Crazy Yama specialty roll, which consisted of softshell crab, crab meat and avacado with crab meat topped on the roll. Everything was truly delicious. Gyoza, which has been a favorite app of ours in Asian restaurants, was fried very well. Enough for both of us. The specialty roll.....a home run indeed. And as always, the presentation was perfect. And everyone, especially the newcomers, enjoyed their food. That made the evening just perfect. A wonderful night for everyone involved. I really debated about updating this but I was SUPER disappointed with my recent take out order. I had a whole plan to eat sushi lunch and then follow up with sushi second lunch and sushi dinner then dessert while binge watching TV. I hadn't been here in years, and the reviews have been positive on both Yelp and Door Dash, so I figured, why not. The good: Miso soup was delicious. I ate all of that. They've got great packaging, and included a free set of egg rolls which was a nice touch. Cheesecake was yummy. My order also arrived on time. The bad: The sushi. What you're supposed to be excellent at. The rice was nearly inedible - had zero taste and wasn't even seasoned as sushi rice from what I can tell. The salmon roll had a weird taste to it, the shrimp tempura roll was okay but not great. Then my nigiri - again the salmon was weird, the white tuna was good, and the yellowtail was really hard to chew and swallow for some reason. These were REALLY small nigiri pieces though - especially for the price. Overall, I was not impressed. It didn't even hold up well in the fridge so I could see if my kids might eat it the following day. Spent $40 on sushi that I had to throw most of out. read more

This is was one of my favorite sushi experiences in a long time. Alysae is a server who truly went above and beyond for every customer she interacted with. The sushi rolls were superb, they brought out edamame to start for everyone, we had the salad, the spring rolls and multiple different sushi rolls. This is still my go-to sushi spot. It's fresh and delicious. I typically get my food to-go or have it delivered to me when I'm not feeling an outing. This is the only place that I use doordash for. Lol. I love the Christmas tree roll. It has two appetizers basically on top of your roll. The seaweed salad has such a nice crunch with great flavor. The tuna tartar is also on top of the roll with great flavor and it's really fresh. I also like to order the candy cane roll. The shrimp that's on top of the roll is so good. I can't explain it. Those are my more favorite entrees. Their miso soup is also yummy. I get the gyoza steamed a lot of the time as well and it's just the perfect little dumpling. I still highly recommend this location for sushi. I've been to the hampton location as well and I might be biased but I think the Yorktown location is better. read more

I've eaten here a few times and each time has been well worth the visit. Coming from a hometown that is well versed in asian and fusion cuisine, this spot reminds me of home! Ambiance (5/5): bright and happy theme, they have a large selection of booths. This restaurant & kitchen is CLEAN. I didn't see any build up of dust or dirt anywhere. Bonus: they also have highchairs for the littlest patrons :) They're located in a strip mall so there are lots of parking spots available. Service (5/5): Elise (sp?) was our server tonight and she was so sweet and took really good care of us! Every time I've been here they greet you as soon as you walk through the door. Service is always friendly and prompt. Food (5/5): Food is always well seasoned and HOT when it comes to the table! (Unless it's a cold dish, of course.) Portions are generous & presentation is beautiful. They have a roll deal that's hard to beat. Unfortunately no kids menu. For those who don't eat sushi there are options: ramen, yakisoba, terriyaki chicken, gyoza, tempera... I rarely leave reviews, but I had such a great experience here I'm still sitting in my booth writing this right now while my husband downloads their app. The dream roll was 10/10 in both flavor and texture, the spicy chicken was nice and in my opinion, had the perfect fried to chicken ratio. Right when you walk in you can see that it's going to be a nice experience. The service was excellent from the start. They brought us out a little edamame to start which was a nice touch. I started off with the sashimi appetizer which was incredible. Then had the dragon roll. Was a little disappointed as the seaweed inside was soggy and chew. Skip the place on the main drag and find this gem! This was a excellent Yelp find. There's another sushi restaurant about half way between this and the hotel. This one, by far, outshines the other. From the friendly staff to the appetizers, food, and desserts. This was an amazing find. I loved the cute underwater orange octopus theme. It made me think of the Beatles song. We got a few Special Combos. We tried the iron man, the real Californian, dancing, and Christmas rolls. Everything was amazing. I think our favorite would be the Christmas Roll.
