Great service, environment, and definitely great food!! For once, we were actually treated how customers should be treated rather than just another table. The server made sure we had our drinks refilled without us asking. They were busy when we went and our food didn't come out quick enough and they quickly offered us free Chinese bisquits, which was more than worth the wait. The food was of good size portions, plenty left to take home and bring for lunch the next day. Heard they are also getting ready to set up a website where customers can print out the latest coupons or promotions. Our family will definitely be going back for our next dinner out. I have such mixed feelings about Asian Pearl. I want to like it simply because of what they are trying to do, but it seemed like they came up short in most areas. Perhaps they will get better over time, but I have feeling it won't last past 2011. First of all, this is not your typical strip mall chinese take-out place. It is a sit down restaurant where you hold your menu in your hand and not look up at the menu posted on the wall. I like that. This also means the food isn't the cookie cutter food that is indistinguishable from all the other chinese food places. That is both good and bad. It's good because the food quality is a little higher and a little more creative. it's bad because the tried and true strip mall chinese food is comforting and you know exactly what you are going to get. This is where Asian Pearl has the opportunity to really make a name for itself. They should concentrate on the uniqueness, freshness and homemade quality of their dishes so they don't compete with the chinese buffets and take out joints. They could attract the Blue Koi and Po's Dumpling crowd that live in JoCo, but they need to amp up their game in order to make it happen. They have a nice special running for March. For $4.99 you can have all you can eat appetizer, soup, rice and lo-mein of the day. It's a nice gimmick. Their fried dumplings were fine. I liked how crispy (almost crunchy) the fried bottoms were, but the steamed tops were sort of tough. I got the impression they had sat too long under a warming lamp. The dipping sauce was nice, but could have used a little more punch from vinegar or garlic or even sugar. In fact, this was indicative of my entire experience at Asian Pearl. The flavors were super timid. It almost felt like they were trying to dumb down their food. I had the spicy wings. They looked beautiful. You could tell the sauce was not prepackaged from a bottle, but was something made from scratch in the kitchen with scallions and other ingredients retaining their integrity on the plate. Sadly, the same problem of timid flavors kept the wings from being more than just okay. The egg drop soup was typical and I blame myself for ordering something that is not known for being particularly exciting. I know it is not traditional, but I always think egg drop soup needs something like lemon juice to make it more interesting than a gelatinous bowl of salty yellow goo. I was glad to see Vietnamese style spring rolls on the menu. Sadly, the peanut sauce was bland and the rolls awkwardly baggy. I get that Asian Pearl has to exist in an area not typically known for its adventurous eateries. Perhaps offering siracha or other condiments at the table would help patrons customize their experience. I'll go back to Asian Pearl, if only to see if my initial impressions were wrong. Still, I worry that this independently owned eatery in JoCo's days are numbered. read more

My husband and I just finished dining there. Online pictures doesn't do it justice. The food was delicious and the the service was great. For an appetizer we had the spicy chili wontons. Something new for us, but they were very good. The egg drop soup was the perfect temperature. For our meal we had sweet and sour chicken and fried rice. The fried rice and the sweet and sour sauce was perfect - all very flavorful. The prices were fair and the location is great. The only complaint (if you could even call it one) is the menu is large. Asian Pearl has revamped their menu and the service is still fantastic as usual. My wife and I go here all the time and never had had a bad meal. We also use their delivery service as well. Now you can order food online for pickup or delivery. The expanded menu includes traditional Chinese dishes for those brave enough to stray from the Americanized fare. They have also added new Americanized dishes as well. The have lunch platters, entree, soup and eggroll or rangoon ranging from $5 to $7. Dinner ranges from $8 up to $17 for the duck. We had been wanting to try this place for a awhile so when we did. Sadly, we discovered that everything about this place was just rather meh, with the exception of the crab Rangoon. Those were quite tasty. The accompanying sauce was rather bland. We ordered hot tea, which I found to be rather weak. I had the sesame chicken and my boyfriend had the lemon chicken. Tried to order delivery from here tonight. Our order total was $34. They called and said that we would have to order something else because we were in their $40 minimum parameters. We are, according to the map, 2.4 miles from this restaurant and well within their $15 minimum for delivery parameters per their map. We order a lot of delivery. I've been here a few times now, and each time I've left happy and full. We went here for Mother's Day- hidden gem. Not crowded and the staff was very attentive. I had the Pad Thai and the husband had the Mongolian beef. We split the food in half and let me tell you, the hubby's Mongolian beef was to die for. Very very good. The Pad Thai was good, but kind of mild. I enjoy mine a little on the spicier side (personal preference). Will come back again when in town. read more

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and good service (late on a Sunday night). The food though is just average. My general's chicken ($10.50) was made with the standard buffet style, mystery chicken that comes pre-breaded out of a box. For the same price of an all white meat entree at Bo Lings or Pei Wei, I expected more. The crab rangoon and spring rolls could have easily come from under the warming light at any local China buffet. I will not be eating here again. This restaurant has been a staple of our family for years. We would order at least weekly with mixed results. The food is hot, fresh, and tasty. The issue is with deliveries. More often than not something is missing or wrong. We ordered less and less and continued to see delivery issues. I have spoken with the manager and they are often pleasant and apologetic but at some point you just give up. Caution to anyone ordering for delivery, it's a gamble. read more

Having literally just finished eating my General Tso's Chicken, Crab Rangoon & Lo Mein, these are my immediate thoughts: Ish. Was. FIRE. Every single thing about this was on point. Asian Pearl Just opened last month and I finally decided to give her a go. Residents in this neighborhood (such as myself) were in dire need of a good non-chain Asian "go-to" and this one fits the bill. You have to admire the level of service and attentiveness you receive at a new restaurant that realizes the importance of making a good first impression. I came in just to grab a menu and do some reconnaissance work before actually coming back to eat and I received some gratuitous red carpet treatment from the hostess. The interior decor is fairly snazzy and the place doesn't feel like it's part of a strip mall (which it is by the way). Prices are very reasonable. Lots of menu items peaked my curiousity but I went with my old fallback (General's Chicken). Reported as delicious. I'll be back again to order something more creative on my next go around, but for now, they've merited a solid 4 stars from me. read more

Excellent Chinese restaurant! Nice change from the other restaurants of the same genre in the area. I know the restaurant is brand new but never the less it is a very clean restaurant. I ordered the combo fried rice and my wife had the sesame chicken as well as an order of egg rolls and egg drop soup. The sesame chicken was wonderful! By far the best part of the meal and the best in Olathe. The chefs managed a well balanced mix of spicy and sweet but not too much of each. The fried rice was just alright for me. They did cook it to a nice golden brown and definitely get kudos for not skimping on the shrimp. I would have liked to see more peas and carrots in the mix but I also know there are a hundred different fried rice recipes. Same goes with the egg rolls; not bad but nothing special. The egg drop soup was a masterpiece! Again, one of the best egg drop soups I have tasted in the area. Would definitely consider making a meal of just the soup next time. Wait staff was very attentive and helpful. Didn't have to ask for refills and all my requests (napkins, noodles, bill, etc.) were filled completely and quickly. The wait time for the food was a little bit on the long side but the management also provided us with complimentary asian biscuits (oversized donut holes) which more than made up for it. Prices for weekend dining were a little high but after reviewing the menu for lunch and dinner specials I feel that the prices are justified. Another reason to justify the price.....the quantity of food! My combo fried rice order was easily double that of other local chinese restaurants. Overall, a pleasant and pleasing dining experience. AWFUL!!! RUN!!!!! We went on a Sunday night and order Chicken Fried Rice, Chicken Lo Mein and the Pineapple Grilled Chicken. The rice and lo mein was not the best I have had it seemed a little oily. The Pineapple Grilled Chicken was absolutley disgusting. The chicken comes on a plate swimming in pineapple sauce, but the worst part is the chicken. It had the consistency of Jello. We barely touched it. Raunchy. It tasted like it was cooked, then frozen, then reheated and smothered in sugar sauce. Maybe they have better items. Our family will never try again. We are not the type to complain and ask for a refund. I think the manager came over at the end and asked if wee needed a box. I asked if the chicken was fresh. I was told it was cooked, frozen and then reheated. I guess that's why it tasted like Jello. We couldn't wait to get out of there. The decor of the restaurant is lovely. Love the trees growing into the ceiling. Maybe we chose the wrong meals. One thing is for sure, we will never go back. On a positive note the Crab Rangoon was ok. read more

I'm not sure what has happened. Asian Pearl used to be good! We ordered shrimp fried rice with vegetables . There were a maximum of 5 small shrimp in it, it lacked flavor, and vegetables were a combo of frozen peas and carrots. The combination fried rice wasn't any better. In the past, we've ordered the orange chicken which was good but the phad thai was just ok. We continue to give this place a try to be disappointed time after time. This place just isn't the same. I am handicapped and cannot go tothe restaurant. I live across the street and wanted delivery. I ordered a dinner and an appetizer. Was told I was .85 cents short and needed to order something else to get a delivery. I will not eat at this restaurant again. Treatment of a handicap person is deplorable.
