Piece of chicken, spit it out to see this travesty

Upon my first bit I about broke my jaw on a giant piece of bone in the General Pso's chicken. Pretty pissed at this insane hazard. Had to dissect every piece from there on out.

Got the General Taos chicken. Good portion size, pretty cheap. My new go to Chinese place.

My dine-in lunch experience was very good. The price was very reasonable ($5.25), the service at the counter was nice, and my order was ready in about eight minutes. The portion sizes were generous. There was a good amount of tasty chicken with an excellent variety of veggies. The egg roll was especially good, and the fried rice was okay. The dining area was Spartan, but clean, without background music. My only gripe is that the water cups were ridiculously small. Overall, very nice.

The worst crab Rangoon I've ever had. At least it was cheap and ready fast! Unfortunately that's all I ordered.

Tried Penny Village Thai and it was a great experience all around…read more The pad thai was excellent -- noodles cooked perfectly, great balance of sweet and savory, and loaded with shrimp and fresh toppings. Every bite had flavor. You can tell it's made fresh. We also had dessert and it was just as good. Not overly sweet, really smooth texture, and a nice way to finish the meal. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed, making it an easy spot to sit back and enjoy dinner. Definitely a place I'd come back to when I'm in KC.

In general, we really love the menu at both bamboo pennies in Leawood and pennies in the village…read more The pennies in the village does feel a little overpriced and it may be just due to the Prairie village premium since we don't have very many restaurants here to choose from, however, it is a bit pricey for what you get recently. We had the softshell crab spring rolls, and it was a bit disappointing that it wasn't even one actual spring roll, but it was rice paper wrapped in the center cut in half so it was really one spring roll cut in half as an appetizer for $16. We were expecting a plate of spring rolls, which usually is two cut in half making four pieces. I've never gotten an appetizer where you paid $16 for one piece. The other issue with the appetizer was the crab is deep-fried and battered, which we did not know and the majority of the crab was the batter and the breading not the crab itself. Again, we understand this is a premium to pay, but it really felt like we weren't getting an appetizer for that price. I will say the dipping sauce is amazing and I quite enjoyed it otherwise I also had a noodle dish, the Pad See Ew flat noodles, which I absolutely love however it was incredibly salty and when it's too salty, there's really nothing you can do :/ it made us feel like the noodles just sit in a pot all day long and so the sauce gets condensed over the day. We also tried the mango duck, which was amazing but again for the price I wasn't really expecting deep fried, and even though it taste great it was a little bit of a shock to have a tray of deep-fried duck. The mango sauce that comes with it is not really a mango purée, which is what I was expecting, but it was absolutely amazing. I loved the sauce I loved the vegetables I loved the presentation. Now I don't have a photo of the food because we were not super impressed with it however, I was very impressed with the rosé. This has become my favorite rosé wine and I've only seen it at Pennys highly recommend it to people who are trying to decide which wine to drink.

The drinks are from the fridge; no soda fountain, no bar, no glasses. Just drinks from cans or bottles. They do offer a small libations selection of beer/seltzers/bottled margaritas. All generously covered in butter with your preferred seasonings. A bib and gloves are provided. Be prepared to have a chin dripping with butter. Honestly I was happy this wasn't an upscale restaurant because I would have been embarrassed by my lack of etiquette as there's just no way to "properly" eat this meal. Steak tender, flavorful, juicy (I get medium). I love the chunks of lobster in the Lobster bisque. The star of the night was the dessert & I'm usually not a dessert girly. I made a reservation in advance which seemed wise in retrospect since the restaurant was quite busy at 7pm. The staff reached out before the reservation to ask about the details of our special celebration. When we showed up they had a nice placard and gave us champagne to help us celebrate! It was a nice gesture by the staff. Our server Adam was too notch, very professional and knowledgeable of the menu. He really made our experience very enjoyable. He even prepared some of our drinks at our table with one hand! Cool guy. Our food was phenomenal, the Chilean Sea Bass was prepared nicely and seasoned lightly with blackend like seasoning. I was surprised at the small portion sizes that came with our dishes. So definitely get the share size sides. The carrot cake dessert was also pretty incredible, very dense and flavor was not so intense. The vibe here is definitely upscale, although their bar had a couple large TVs. Upon seating, the dining room is decorated beautifully and the low lighting keeps the ambiance going throughout the meal. I would highly recommend ordering the Bubbles & Berries to drink. Not only is it a bubbling beauty, it tastes just as wonderful! This drink alone is an experience and such a fun way to start. For appetizers, I would highly highly recommend the Ahi Tuna Tartare and the Hamachi Crudo. Other wonderful starters are the Warm Bread Service and a sushi roll (we went with the Spicy Tuna). For dinner, recently, I had the Ahi Tuna and the Chilean Sea Bass. Both were wonderful, but my favorite was definitely the Sea Bass. It is so rich and delicious. Those I was with ordered the Sea Scallops (looked incredible), Filets (with different preparations - Maytag Blue Cheese Crust and Black Truffle Butter), and sides of Bacon Creamed Spinach and Jalapeño Au Gratin (all of which I heard were divine). The servers are so kind and knowledgeable. If you have dietary restrictions - not to worry! The servers start the meal asking if there are any they should be aware of and are mindful of this.
