I hadn't seen China King before, but I don't get to West Shawnee often. I was there at an odd time, maybe 2pm. I was greeted promptly and placed a to-go order of a lunch entree (General Tso) and side of Crab Rangoon. It was ready quickly. Crab Rangoon were nice and plump, but a bit on the sweet side. The entree was okay, but seemed to be typical out-of-a-box from one of those restaurant suppliers. The price is fine. They were fast. The restaurant looked and felt clean. I was visiting a business near this location and while sitting in the parking lot I saw several people pick up carry out orders, so I decided to try it. I ordered a shrimp fried rice, wanting to start with something basic. It was awful! It contained rice, onion and the shrimp looked like it was previously frozen and boiled. Called to place an order for carry out. The person who answered the phone immediately responds and said, "You mean pick up?"...I responded with a confused yes. Does carry out and pick up no longer mean the same thing? Any who, I carry on with my order, "Three sweet and sour chickens, two general, and one garlic chicken." The guy responded "Small or large?" I was confused and said large. You see on their menu it never specified sizes. Everything on their menu makes it very clear that with each meal you either get fried rice, or white rice and two crab rangoon's, or one egg roll. So you can imagine my surprise when I asked for all of our orders to include the fried rice and crab rangoon's and the guy on the phone responded, "Well those don't come with that." I informed him that I looked at their menu and that's what it stated, he responded, "Oh, you want a combo plate, you should have specified that, please next time say that." How was I to know? Why didn't he ask right away? Also, still bothered by the carry out ordeal. Pick up and carry out mean the same thing! Phone boy couldn't seem to move past the fact that I didn't say combo plate. He proceeded to lecture me on how I should have specified combo plate multiple times. I told him I got it, and that this was my first time I've ever ordered from them. I was going to order a handful of egg rolls as well, but after asking combo plate boy about that he seemed confused and acted as if that would be a big hassle to add that on so I just said we will pass on the egg rolls. Given the order size I have a lot of people to feed otherwise I would of said to heck with it all and found another place to order from. That's the only thing that can account for two locations staying in business. Everyone knows that carry-out Chinese restaurants are cheap, and you're lucky if you get what you pay for. But seriously, La Choy would be embarrassed to serve this stuff. Whatever you do, don't put a napkin or any other absorbent material near your food. Inedible! We have been frequenting this restaurant for many years but the food has gotten really bad and we will not be going back. Our last order was inedible and we had to throw it out. I travel all over the US for work and this is one of the good spots! Stopped in on a whim because the place we were headed to was busy. Super glad I did though. Good food and better people. Great value and i thougt the food was really good. (i got sea food lo mein and my fiancee got the kung pao). The drink options are bad and the restaurant was crazy hot inside. I would recommend probably calling in an order and taking it home. But it was overall a good experience. I wish i had brought cash. Its obviously a family business. Used to be our favorite. The last time we ordered, 30 minutes after I ordered a car pulled into my driveway and left, then they called 20 mins later and said I gave them the wrong address. Gave them another chance tonight and 1.5 hours later I went to the restaurant and asked where our food was... they called the driver and he said 5 mins. 10 mins later - no food so I called and cancelled our order. Ordering on line for pick up is easy and convenient, however one of the downsides is that is it costs an extra $1.50 to order this way---did not realize this until the deal was done. :( Upside..The food was hot, flavorful, and fresh tasting.There was only one really disappointing thing----- the fried rice was missing, and we didn't discover this until we were already home, sitting down for dinner. It clearly states on menu to choose either white rice, or pay an up-charge of $1.00 for the fried rice to go with your meal. My receipt shows the fried rice with dollar added....however, no white rice...no fried rice! Husband was not a happy camper after a cold,rainy, long day. We were both very tired, and the 8 mile journey back was out of the question. Since he was missing part of his meal...I shared my Lo Mein noodles. :) It would be nice if this restaurant would double check the orders before stapling the bag shut. Awful!! Food takes forever for delivery( usually 2 hours) and 9 times out of 10 is cold when it gets delivered and smells like cigarette smoke. When orders are wrong they make you TEXT them a pic of the food and reuse to give refunds. Customer service is the worst. Got general tso's chicken lunch special. The price is right on the food and crab Rangoon is good. Chicken was a strange. Was not white meat like other Chinese places. Fried rice was ok. They offer the lunch special with chicken fried rice but I got it with no chicken. Got order to go and once I got to work I figured out I didn't have a fork or napkins.
