I came for a Moler extraction. The Dr gave 5 or 6 shots for the local, with no numbing on my gums. I've always been numbed prior to the shots everywhere I had gone before. The shots were very painful. Then while removing the last part of the tooth, he accidentally knocked off the crown two teeth behind, yelling to the Dentist next door, he asked for him to put it back on. I was then rushed out of my spot to a couple spots over where I waited and waited while pain was beginning to start, then given a form to sign stating that the Dentist will put my crown back on but is not responsible for any problems that could occur from it. I waited while he worked on two patients then hurried into the room put glue on the crown and put it on it, which took less than a minute. He Did not check at all if it was put back on properly. Rushed back out. At least the dental assistant was very nice to me. I paid over $1000.00, then they caused an issue in my mouth that did not exist before sitting in one of their chairs. read more

This business is a corporate scam. Had one tooth that was sensitive to cold so I went to this location to be checked out. Only being in there for 15 mins and very briefly being examined before they came to the conclusion of periodontal disease. Said I needed 2,000 dollars worth of root scaling and antibiotics. Got a second opinion from a local family run dentist that I did not have periodontal disease at all. These people are running a scam for profit and using fear tactics to do so. Do not trust them. I have used Aspen Dental in my past, and it was not a good idea. I now must tear out all the work they did on me and have root canals done again on the same teeth they supposedly fixed. My dentist said, they underestimated the cavities. And talk about expense! I'd think twice before trusting this Dental Network. While in their office I witnessed arguing clinicians and improper business ethics, that's when I pulled out of their care. I wish I'd checked out the review section before using Aspen Dental at 82nd St in Castleton, Indianapolis Indiana. I'd had some previous bridge done, which was an OK experience. Most of this was covered by my health insurance (I thought). I then got a notice from Aspen's accounting department several months later saying that I now had a balance due on the account for several hundred dollars. When I called their accounting office, they admitted that this was probably "a clearing error" in their system and they would check on it. In the meantime, a previous appointment I'd made for teeth cleaning was abruptly cancelled due to the outstanding balance (after waiting two months to have the appointment made). I've now checked in one month later and they still don't have an explanation for this clearing error and won't let me make another appointment. Needless to say, I'm never using Aspen again- this is what you get when you deal with big corporate health providers- just systems and excuses. Stay away from Aspen! read more

Waited over a half an hour to get back for my 12:00 appointment. Once inside, the hygienist was in such a hurry to get my X-rays taken, she was all but ripping the camera in and out of my mouth-- not a pleasant experience (She did apologize multiple times, but continued to rush). When I was finally seen for my actual appointment, I was told that I needed a crown and a cavity filled. Very upsetting news. Came back the next day to get a copy of my X-rays and waited almost a half hour. The front desk said they would get them and I watched the receptionist pull a cigarette out of her purse and go take a smoke break. Once she came back, she forgot to get my X-rays. I had to go up and request again a copy of my X-rays. Could also hear the receptionists talking about personal matters using cuss words, etc. --not a professional environment. Nice people, but unorganized. Took my X-rays to my hometown dentist and he said I didn't need a crown or have any cavities. I was about to shell out $800 for work that didn't need done... I'll stick to my hometown from now on! read more

I had an appointment on 12-13-2021 at the Southport location. From the front to the back of the office was superior customer service. I am not one to be easily impressed, but I was in awe because you do not find good service too much anymore. There were 3 people, who worked on my teeth for a cleaning and 3 fillings. Dr. Quang Ton, Bri, and Katie. They did a phenomenal job. They were patient, answered all my questions, and checked on me from time to time to make sure I was alright. Aspen dental is so horrible, I would not recommend them to my worst enemy. After years of less than pleasant experiences, it finally turned horrible. At a follow up to get a filling after my cleaning, I found out a portion of my deposit (for a filling and night guard) was used towards an exam fee despite the fact that my insurance covered the exam. I had only planned on paying the other half of the deposit that day but Aspen was requesting an additional $55 more because they had used part of my deposit for the exam fee. When I tried to dispute the charge, the manager told me "Are you going to pay this or not because you're making the dentist run behind". It was extremely rude and at that point it was only 3 minutes past my appointment time. I should have requested a full refund for the remaining deposit and walked out. Instead I paid it because I felt I needed the filling and night guard. When I came back later with my explanation of benefits as proof my insurance covered the exam Aspen charged me for, the same manager spoke in a rude tone for the whole inter and said there was nothing she could do as they don't do billing in clinic (clearly that is a lie because if you collect payments, you do billing). I was told the issue would have to be reviewed by corporate before a refund could be issued which would take 30-45 days. I was so upset by the way I had been treated by the manager that when I left, I called my insurance company (who I had called a few days prior and they confirmed they covered the service Aspen charge me for) and asked them to please get involved as I couldn't handle being mistreated any longer. My insurance company has been updating me every step of the way (thank you Cigna, you're great!) and from what they've told me, the clinic has been uncooperative (ie, the employee speaking to the insurance company will refuse to give their name). It has now been past 45 days and still no refund. My insurance company contacted me a few days ago and said Aspen's corporate office has just been waiting on some paperwork to be sent from the clinic. Not surprised at all that the clinic hasn't done their part in trying to get this issue resolved. I understand accidents happen but the time and effort it is taking to get a refund when I have an EOB proving insurance covered the exam as well as the insurance company themselves admitting it was covered is absolutely ridiculous. Also I'd be less upset if the manager had at least pretended to be helpful instead of just being rude. I'm finally ready to leave this location and Aspen all together. Update 2 months later: I finally received my refund. However as some form of retaliation I also got a bill in the mail a few weeks later. Now they are trying to charge me $188 for a different service that my insurance covered (confirmed by my patient charge list, EOB and a Cigna representative). Cigna said they would resolve this matter with Aspen so I assumed it was handled. This was a month ago. So here I am now with a 2nd bill from Aspen for $188. Immediately after receiving the bill in the mail, I called Cigna. They claimed to have reached out to Aspen several times with no response. My concern is that I will be sent to collections over a bill that I don't owe money for! My insurance company agrees that I shouldn't have to pay for this charge since I had a $0 copay. I don't understand how/why I keep getting charged for services my insurance company is covering especially when my insurance company is not denying they covered these services. And the fact that this has been a 5 month ordeal is absolutely ridiculous (this all started in July and now it's nearly December). My only conclusion is that Aspen doesn't not care about people, they care about money. read more

I broke a tooth and had to have a cap put on it. The dentist that was there was actually very good. He was a very common sense guy but as with all good guys in cheap operations....he left. Later....my insurance denied my claim because of no dental/medical documentation to justify the crown. Trying to deal with Apsen is so hard. They don't even want to let you have a copy of YOUR dental record. My advice....stay away from this chain. They are an assembly line that turns out patients...not quality....or proper dental documentation. Some of the people were very nice to me, and some turned out to be real wolves. You are better off going to a real dentist office and staying away from this chain. Just google their name and see the thousands of complaints that their past customers have against them. There are class action lawsuits pending against them. Jan 2011 Just to follow up, crown they put in fell out. This place is bad. Do not go! A money-making racket. I had expected a routine cleaning, but the nice folks at Aspen were eager to find anywhere from 2 to 4 cavities, never mind that I have never had one in my life. Did I really need someone to plow into my enamel to make room for a filling? I might have given them the benefit of the doubt, but then they also told me I need to get screened for oral cancer. Really? Even with excellent teeth, no history of smoking or dipping, no family history, and not even a hint of a red flag? I should have read the writing on the wall--quite literally. Rather than decorating their lobby with paintings, Aspen Dental fills it with advertisements, mostly for other services that Aspen Dental will provide--like oral cancer screenings. The dentist seemed offended when I refused and was genuinely miffed when I told her I wasn't going to come back for a follow-up. Oh yeah, I forgot: no biggie, since my insurance will cover it all. But someone is paying for that, and let's just say Aspen Dental isn't blazing any trails in the crusade to keep health care costs down. read more

Like others have noted, this is a racket. It's a pure money-making scheme and you're FAR better off going right down the street to Franklin and Southport to Shorey Dental. I went in for slight tooth pain. Aspen said I needed two fillings on teeth that weren't even the tooth in question. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I agreed to treatment but when going over the treatment plan with the office manager, I noticed an "Oral-B" charge for $125. I inquired about it and after slight prodding was informed it was an ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH. I asked why I needed that and she just said "well we recommend it for all our patients." I have an electric toothbrush so I asked if it could be removed. She again stated it's recommended for all patients. It was right then I knew this was a swindling atmosphere and not something I wanted to be a part of. What's also troubling is they make you pre-pay for your ENTIRE treatment plan before you have anything done. When I asked why this was, the business manager told me that's so they don't have people schedule their appointments then not show up. After having the most expensive toothbrush in the world pushed on me, I can understand why. AVOID. LIKE. THE. PLAGUE. I went in for the free exam and x-rays. They wanted to extract a tooth, which seemed very strange to me since that tooth wasn't in any horrible pain. They tried to schedule me right away the next day for a tooth extraction, cleaning, and replacement tooth. I told them I would wait till next week, went to two other dentists and all I needed was a filling. Would most definitely not recommend. Tried charging me a ridiculous amount to pull my tooth when all it needed was a simple filling that I received from another dentist that took less than a couple of minutes. Horrible experience. Started drilling in the bottom after numbing the top so I felt everything and then they realized they should've been drilling the top side of mouth So basically they worked on the wrong tooth and I was like wait a minute and then they numbed the top again and drilled in the top after that. I saw the online ad for "Free exam and x-rays" and made an appointment. I waited way too long while the dentist played musical chairs with 4 different patients simultaneously. They told me that I had all sorts of problems and that I needed to get the resources to have the work done right away. I made a follow up appointment for an extraction but I smelt a rat and cancelled. I did some online investigating and discovered a horrible history of lawsuits and undercover investigations that exposed some unsavory business practices. I now know that I cannot trust anything that they said to me. I would avoid this place like the plague. read more

Wish I would have done my homework on this company before allowing them to touch my mouth. I went in for a regular check-up and ended getting the whole Cancer screening rip-off scheme. They set me up with Care Credit to take care of what they said was some needed work under bridge work I have. A few weeks later I went in for a tooth ache on a back tooth and scheduled another appointment to take care of this tooth. The dentist started cutting into my bridge work, which was not bothering me at this time. I told her she was working on the wrong tooth. She said she could not leave the tooth open now, so it ended up getting pulled. When I talked with the Office Manager, I was told I still owed the whole amount of money that I applied for with Care Credit, which was a series of dental work. When I tried explaining that I would not be having Aspen Dental work on my teeth again, she got aggravated and said that I would have a credit, but she did not have anything to do with Care Credit. If you call Care Credit they will refer you back to the Dentist Office. I did get most of the charges removed, but they ripped off my insurance company and I have not received all credit from Aspen Dental that my insurance company paid to them. They had the wrong insurance information on file, so they called to get my updated information. About a month after the first phone call, I received another call from them saying the same thing, they had the wrong insurance information on file for me. I gave it to them a second time. Now I've just received a bill from Aspen Dental for the full charges from my visit in February. I called my insurance to find out why my visit hadn't been covered, and the agent told me they don't even have a claim on file for me from Aspen. Whaaaat? I had a great experience at Aspen Dental, and have seen my fair share of dentists at private practices. I found that the doctor was very thorough and realistic with his exam and treatment planning. I've been back a couple of times for my cleanings and fillings. I went in knowing that my mouth wasn't perfect, especially having not been to the dentist for two years. I have never doubted the doctors treatment. He's been gentle and I've had no problems or complaints after each visit. Doctor G doesn't have it easy, he not only has his patients to attend to, but also try to help past patients that may not have had the best care before he started with Aspen Dental. He is very caring and only wants what is best for patients. My mother-in-law also is a patient and wears dentures. She had them made years ago by a different doctor and recently needed an adjustment, she had been having some pain and figured they were loose and needed relined. The doctor told her that her bite was way off and her dentures weren't functioning properly causing pain in her jaw. He suggested to remake them, even after her warranty was up. Thanks to the doctor and staff, she has never been happier with her smile. I've seen reviews online that doubt the doctor and his professional opinion. I think these reviews are simply ridiculous. After reading the complaints, I don't see how the doctors reputation should be based on the "pricing". The office manager is so understanding and works hard to help you get the treatment you need. She has NEVER been pushy or made us pay for something we didn't want. When I had my consult with the manager, she gave me a copy of the treatment expected with all the costs. There was an item for $129, which ended up being am electronic toothbrush. I asked if I had to get it because I already have one at home and she explained why it was there based on my oral health but that she can take it off being that I had one. I did ask to see the toothbrush at my cleaning and the hygienist explained & demonstrated all that it can do for me daily. Aspen Dental has its policies, that's based on the company and corporation. But individually, the offices have the ability to do things differently to try to accommodate each patient. This is not to say that they can, but they certainly do try. Also, patients judging the doctors treatment plans seems like a joke. There is a reason we go to the dentist or a doctor and that's because we aren't professionals, we don't know what all could be underneath the surface. If someone goes in for a routine check up and a doctor finds an irregularity, do we start attacking his professional background or education? No! We do what is necessary to begin exploring what's wrong and how to begin treating it. Why should it be any different at a dental office? From experience while sitting in the lobby I've seen patients throw a fit because they expect after years of not seeing a dentist routinely, that all they need is a "cleaning" and don't want an exam or X-rays. (Even though, these are free of charge) They don't seem to realize that examining their oral health can save their lives. Bad oral health can lead to many other life threatening problems. Now, when my dentist expresses concern for my health, I take it seriously. I don't lash out and begin assuming that he is just trying to "rack up the bill", because if anyone does their homework they will see that Aspen's prices are fairly competitive and very reasonable. I suggest that if you are considering a visit to the dentist that you give the Southport location a try. You have nothing to lose, and will get a free exam and X-rays regardless of whether or not you accept treatment with their office. read more

If you even consider of going there, please do your homework first and find out what they are all about. 1) all i wanted was to get 2 teeth pulled out, when i got the ex-ray they told me that i needed to get 9 fill ins... well since i wasn't going to have dental insurance the following year, i decided to just get everything over with... the total of my care was for $1149 (which I found out later on), but the lady told me that it was $2078. She told me to apply for credit care, and I can pay it every month instead of paying the whole thing up front... she said my insurance is paying $714 dollars... so as you can see they cheat their way through it. there's more to the story, but i feel like I'm writing a book... If you read this review and all the previous reviews and still choose to go to Aspen dental, you cannot say someone didn't warn you... If I could give zero stars I would. I called Aspen Dental out of desperation back in October 2016. They did get me in quick for tooth pain however after that it was all down hill. They told me I would need $10,000+ worth of work done. I decided to go ahead and start with my root canal, which I needed to be referred out to an endodontist. I was able to get that taken care of with in a week. But when I called back to schedule my crown they told me I needed to get a "root planning and cleaning" done. This was not disclosed to me when I got the canal done. I was told by the office manager that she would talk to the doctor and see what she could do. I NEVER heard back from her. I tried daily to call and talk to her. I left voicemails etc. This went on for about a month. I finally was able to talk to her and inform her that I needed to get my second root canal done since it was beginning to hurt. She scheduled me and told me they would take impressions of both teeth and complete both crowns... Boy was I foolish... I got to the office and they completed my second canal and I was told by the manager they would not be doing the first crown I had done. I voiced my opinion however she stated there was nothing they could do. I left the office. As of today, 4/3/2017 I still do not have a crown on my tooth FROM 10/2016!!!!! Awful office... Awful staff... never again... Luckily I've since found a wonderful dental office who offered to take care the crown and continue care going forward. read more

I had avoided the dentist since a horrible experience with a root canal 5 years ago. I started experiencing tooth pain in January 2012 and went to the Aspen Dental near my office in the 46227 zip code. They worked out a comprehensive plan for me and provided an estimate of the work that would be done. I had no issues making an appointment and obtaining the necessary paperwork for my Flex Spending card. In fact, the front desk staff faxed several items to Flex Card office to assure them it was a dentist office I had spent the money at!! After all was said and my dental plan was completed in March 2012, Aspen Dental even found that my insurance covered more than originally thought and I received a $740.00 refund on my Flex Spending card. Most recently, I was experiencing tooth pain and went to an emergency dentist location after hours. They took xrays and advised that the filling I had done at Aspen on tooth #30 was done well, however, the cavity was just too deep and I would need a root canal. The emergency dentist couldn't fit me in until the following week. I contacted Aspen Dental the next day as a walk-in. They immediately did xrays, started me on Prednisone, and Dr. S even rescheduled some routine appointments to make sure to get me in within 24 hours for an emergency root canal before his vacation the following week. I have never had anything but positive experiences with Dr. S and with the staff at Aspen Dental. I'm not sure what's going on with the other locations, but my location is excellent and I wouldn't trust my obscenely straight smile to anyone else! read more

I went to the office for a quote on dentures. I brought my xrays from a dentist I had previously visited along with a coupon for a free office visit. After visiting one place to another explaining several times all I wanted was a quote, they finally put me in the office to quote me, which was much higher than my previous dentist. I thanked them, asked if I owed them anything and was told no. My insurance was then billed for the xrays I had provided them, and I too received a bill for $204 representing my deductible. I called them and was told it would be taken care of. Two years later I'm still fighting them, for what they call a service that was provided, but now the amount is only $74. It was turned into collections as I still refuse to pay for "nothing" that was provided other than a quote on dentures, which they would not give me over the phone. The insurance company was never reimbursed by them for what they billed them either, but my insurance just "wrote it off"....By all means, go to someone else!!!!! read more

The most unprofessional office I have ever had to deal with...Took an hour or more just to do the initial x-rays, the person taking the x-rays didn't even know how to operate the equipment, I know this because she told me this herself. By the way, the x-ray rooms are not private, when they take your pics there you are left, with your mouth gaping, where everyone can see..After that fiasco I was put in a chair, across the same room I was in, someone else was having their tooth extracted in plain view. The hygienist came in to do a "periodontal chart".. as she was attempting to go through the motions of doing so, the same "tech" that flubbed the x-rays didn't know how to input the numbers in the computer. Which led to having to poke and prod my sore gums over and over again. Then, the Dentist came in. He threw my x-rays in my face, quickly and without even being nice about it gave me some vague options that did not really have an end result. When I tried to ask questions I was cut off by him and he just repeatedly kept saying, don't let the pain choose your treatment, it was obscure...Like one of those phone recordings.. but this guys was real. In the end it was recommended that the first step of my treatment was to have teh 4 impacted wisdom teeth extracted. Now all of this up until then took 3 hours... yes 3 hours. BUT within 15 minutes they had a 3,000 dollar credit line opened in my name and scheduled me for a "Dental Surgeon", whose office was an hour and a half away. This was scheduled for April 1st at 1:pm. On April 1st at 8 am the office of the surgeon called to cancel the surgery and wanted me to drive the hour and a half still... for another consultation... I called the manager from the branch I went to, and asked to have my line of credit closed and that I would be taking my business elsewhere. She asked me to give her some time to see if a surgeon closer could see me today. I waited a half hour, the clerk called me back to say she found a surgeon that is not affiliated with Aspen to see me. I did not ask them to call any 3rd party offices for me, I can do that myself. At this point I had to be more stern about severing my ties here and stopping the line of credit with Aspen so I could go elsewhere. I was then told that, and please TAKE NOTE OF THIS, apparently they can open the line of credit but they cannot close it. In other words, I haven't even heard from these people yet, and was told all Aspen could do was give me a refund, that I would need to call the credit line and deal with that myself.
