I went to Aspen Dental because of a dental emergency. After waiting for two hours, they spent most of my visit pointing out everything they thought was wrong with my teeth and recommending nearly $10,000 worth of treatment. Despite all that, they ultimately told me they couldn't even help with the emergency that brought me in and sent me somewhere else. The staff came across as rude and judgmental. I explained that I had always had healthy teeth until they were damaged in a car accident, but they didn't seem to care or take my situation into consideration. Instead of focusing on the reason I came in, I felt like the appointment was more about selling expensive treatments than helping me with my dental emergency. Took my daughter here for a broken tooth with an exposed nerve. My daughters pain was unbearable to say the least. The staff was not sympathetic at all. She asked for something a little stronger for the pain just to get her by until the next day because it was going to get pulled. She was refused. Overpriced and unpleasant experience. The office manager strongly pushed me toward a loan for dental work while I was dealing with a painful dental infection. In that situation, I agreed to the financing, but after reviewing it later, I returned and was fortunately able to get 98% of the loan refunded. The dental work ended up costing significantly less elsewhere than what I was originally quoted. I was also told that a 29.98% APR was reasonable because I could simply pay it off. I'm young, but I understand how costly that kind of interest rate can be. My first visit wasn't terrible, but it felt uncomfortable to be pressured into a financial agreement that seemed excessive. I also signed up for the Aspen Dental savings plan. A few months later, when my wisdom tooth started coming in, I became concerned and scheduled what I understood to be a free emergency screening covered by the plan. While I suspected my wisdom tooth was the cause of the problem, I wanted to make sure it wasn't something more serious, such as oral cancer or another infection that might require antibiotics. However, I was told they would not see me because I did not intend to use their services for the extraction. That made little sense to me since I was trying to use a benefit included with the plan and simply wanted a professional emergency evaluation. Instead, I was told to see my regular dentist. Overall, I felt the office was more focused on selling expensive treatment and financing than on patient care. Between the high costs, the pressure to take on expensive financing, and the refusal to provide what I understood to be a covered emergency screening, I would not recommend this corporation. read more

Called asking if they take Essence. They said yes so hubby and I made appointment for teeth cleaning for 9a.m. The gal said to arrive 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork. I did that and door was locked with a sign saying not open until 9 a.m. Saw receptionist at desk so knocked on door. She came to the door and said they dont unlock doors until 9. I told her I was told to arrive 15 minutes early and she repeated don't open door until 9 a.m. Finally got inside and they did enormous amount of xrays. I've never had so many teeth xrays! Then hygienist comes in and tells me I need 2 crowns and hubby needs work also. Dentist comes in and repeats what hygienist said. We each paid $29 but no teeth cleening until we fill out financial arrangement paperwork. I explained several times that I need antibiotic because of knee replacement. The dentist finally gave it to me at the end. I was in their office 1.5 hours and didn't even get teeth cleaned. Moral of the story is they are NOT customer oriented at all. Dentist and staff were good, skilled. I would like to sue the company however. Billing was confusing, my treatment stopped half way and I won't go back. Their corporate and billing people were horrible to deal with. Aspen has been sued because of advertising and billing practices and now I see why. I paid $4,000 and just have my temporary plate. I'm so furious. I told them my husband was very ill, not even a response. This dental practice "fits me like a glove". From the moment I entered the office the front desk happily greeted me and my daughter. I've been thinking implants would be the answer to my lost teeth but the dentist explained her plan of care for me and made sure I understood. The patient teaching was outstanding. From the Xrays to the temporary crowns, they insured I was comfortable which reduced my anxiety. The dental hygienist made sure I didn't feel pain during the deep scaling. In terms of payment plans I was approved on the spot for Care Credit. After my treatment I was given products to care for my teeth and gums, as well as written instructions to follow. I want to thank Dr Favor, the Hygienist McKenna the dental assistant Shanya who took my X-rays and put on my temporary crowns. I look forward to my dental prosthetic and ability to eat different foods. . Everybody was patient and respectful. I never felt rushed. They strive for excellence and it was met. Update: less than 6 minutes after this was posted, the Office Manager came in with a referral form with nothing but a note that said "please treat problems and issues" and a Dr Palmer's name. No other information. MY daughter sat for over an hour and a half, was never seen by a dentist and then the owner had the NERVE to dismiss me entirely, never address the problem, tried to mansplain to me that this isn't a pediatric dentistry. Well, you knew she was 6 when I made the appointment, you knew it for the last 90 minutes, knew she was in pain and did absolutely nothing for her. What a joke! And that Office Manager? Yeah. I'm looking forward to bumping into her again. I'm sitting here now. Had an appointment at 10:00 for my 6 year old complaining of pain. I get here and they decide she has to also see the hygienist so it'll be a longer wait. Then the hygienist took X-rays and said she didn't need a cleaning since she just had one 2 weeks ago so we waited for nothing. Now it's 11:09 and they've billed my insurance, the dentist still hasn't seen my child other than to pop in and say sorry it'll still be awhile - wtf?! I was referred to this location from a former employee whom specifically referred me to this Aspen Dental and to Dr Matts and Paula. She said i should ask for an exception from dr matts given my short time in st louis to follow my new patient exam with a deep cleaning (which i know i needed). I landed on the 800# without knowing it and 30 min later they said they would ask an exception for me to do a 4 quads SFP (in case it was needed) after my regular appointment and would get back to me. Since they had not gotten back to me by next day, and my insurance was unable to get a hold of them regarding roster # and adding me as a patient, i called back the office and after holding for what seemed to be too long, I landed on Ashton - unfortunately. At first Ashton asked me whom i spoke with because she had no record/ notes of the conversation. I explained she was from Jamaica and she laughed and said i must have landed on the general line! Not sure what is funny about Jamaica but.. i suppose for someone who has never left st louis it sounds peculiar. I re-explained the situation (that I am in town for only 4 days and I was hoping she could ask Dr Matts for an exception to see if they might allow me to proceed with a deep cleaning after the new patient xrays/exam . Unfortunately for me, Ashton was cold and rude and shut me down saying they dont make exceptions. Clearly i knew that was not true since the old office manager suggested i ask for it.... Plus lets face it, I was simply asking to have a longer appointment so i could do more and pay them more.... I was asking to send them more business... dont think there is anything outrageous about that?! Ashton almost barked at me and said that it was HER decision and the answer was NO. She refused to ask the dentist; she shot business down for no good reason without apology. She kept interrogating me about why I thought I needed a deep cleaning and i explained about my implant situation and how the last several times at dentists this was always needed. Eventually she re-took all of my insurance info down but never apologized once on behalf of Aspen for dropping the ball and losing the notes nor did she have the heart to ask the dentist for me given my short visit to st louis from california. Had the dentist been asked and said no, I would have accepted that but Ashton would not even ask. She ruled that office as if she was a queen! Ashton was a disaster. She was munprofessional and had an ego the size of planet for no reason! When i made it to the office: the person whom called me "sweetie" and "honey" at the front desk (but was younger than me) about ten times in a row was Ashton. She looked cheap and she acted fake. We are not best friends and it wasn't professional. A dental hygienist took care of me: she was sweet and professional and took 18 rays for me! She was pleasant and patient! Then i spoke with the dentist. Not Dr Matts. Suspect that Ashton specifically did not place me with him since i asked for him. The dentist from Iraq, didn't catch her name, was professional and quiet but listened to my concern and made things right by allowing me to get a deep cleaning that same day, which I appreciated. I then spoke with someone about insurance coverage and Ashton whom had been informed by then about my complaint, turned around and GLARED at me while I spoke with the person about paying. Paula ended up doing my cleaning. She was excellent. Fun, happy and efficient! The overall experience was disappointing only because it started so bad; it left a bad taste in my mouth. Had i not been stuck needing to do this, I would have just canceled after my interaction with "the office manager"... whom clearly has no manners and will ruin that business with her low class attitude. read more

My consultation with the office manager (a few days after initial exam) didn't seem to match anything the doctor and I spoke about. When asked if they could clear up my concerns the only option I was given was to come back in for another evaluation. Not a call from my doctor or a review of my treatment plan over the phone. One of the worst things any doctor's office could do is make you doubt whether the care you're receiving is accurate. It compounds the issue when your questions go unanswered. 01/08/24 Update: It took another week after posting this review for anyone at Aspen to contact me directly. Then they say it will take 10 days for digital versions of my x-rays to be sent to me, even though they can print a copy there. All I wanted was a partial for my bottom teeth. I agreed to there dental care plan which included upper dentures. ended up paying over $3,500+ not including the 2-3 cleanings of my 4 remaining teeth for $300 per cleaning and still didn't get a permanent partial. The upper dentures feel like there someone else's they told me just use a lot of fixodent. Unfortunately I didn't read the reviews. They are very good at passing the buck since the turnover rate there is ridiculous. read more

Very misleading, had an exam May 2023, they whole exam was a process in which they tried to sell me implants. I wanted a teeth cleaning and that never happened. I had an x ray and was told the hygienist was going on maternity leave and they will call me once she returns to set up the cleaning appointment. They never called. I called them March 2024 and then I was told I would need to sign a care plan with the office manager before I could make an appointment for a cleaning. Something that could've been done while I was waiting 10 months for the hygienist to return, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND BUSINESS at this point I don't think they know how to clean teeth the way they put you off to never make an appointment read more

NEVER would i recommend this dentist. The office is nice looking and updated but the actual MD (dentist) was beyond rude. I already knew I had tooth problems. I told him what hurt and explained my issues to him. He made me feel absolutely embarrassed about even coming in. He literally shamed me and had the worst bed side manner ever. I left almost in tears- except before I left someone stopped me and tried to sell me on a dental plan that would literally cost me a years worth of salary. Went to Aspen Dental because of a tooth pain knowing that it will have to be pulled. I told them which tooth was hurting me prior to the X-ray and then the dr came in to show me the x-ray. Also told the dr which tooth was hurting and scheduled the extraction the following day. When they pulled the tooth it hurt so bad that they assistant had to hold my arms down. That evening I took out the gauze and to my surprise they did not pull the tooth that I was complaining about. I called to complain about them pulling the wrong tooth and all they said was that I signed off on the tooth that was pulled. Since I was still in pain I scheduled the following day to have the correct tooth pulled. After they pulled it they did not prescribe any medication for the pain or infection that the tooth caused. After three days my mouth was still in pain and infected so I looked in my mouth to find something was still in the hole from the wrong tooth they pulled. I called back and told them that there was part of a f@*king tooth that was still in there. The dr got on the phone and told me there was not part of a tooth and that it could be a bone fragment. I assume that when they pulled the wrong tooth part or my jaw broke and that is what's sticking out hurting me. The dr said that since I accused them of pulling the wrong tooth and that I said the work f@*k to the receptionist that they will no longer treat me and that they are parting ways. This location and doctor, which by the way she said she was part owner, is very unprofessional and does not care about you as a patient. The only thing that they are after is your money. If you decide to go to Aspen Dental stay away from the one located on Lemay Ferry Rd. That will just cause you pain and take your money! read more

I called them to schedule ex rays and cleaning. They told me they offer the first initial ex ray and consultation free of charge. Okay, so I booked my first appointment. The day of the appointment, the staff was very nice. After my ex rays the dentist came in and gave his oral exam and said everything looked good. No cavities and I should keep doing what I am doing. That was good news to me. Then the hygienist came in and gave me an itemized full page unnecessary treatment plan with a cost of $1943.00. I told her I JUST want to have my teeth cleaned. They told me "no". They won't clean my teeth unless I sign up for this plan. I reminded the consultant that I called for a cleaning and all I want is a cleaning and I am sorry if they are not set up that way. I will be going to a traditional dentist. Aspen Dental advertisement for services were misleading and dishonest. I went for my free screening and was told I needed to have in depth cleaning on my gums and I was lead to believe that the gums were so badly affected that I would need numerous visits. I was quoted $1950 for these services. I went for my first treatment, which took about 1/2 hour and I was told I didn't even need any require any novacaine because they didn't need to go very deep into the gums, which was the opposite of what I expected. After Kelly Brandt asked me to come into the finance office, I was told I owed $1950 for the ONE procedure! I was lead to believe the whole procedure to take care of the gum disease would cost $1950 not each visit! This is outrageous and I was shocked. Please be aware of this business. read more

If you care about your teeth or your wallet, DO NOT GO TO HERE!! I came in for some discomfort and a small black spot thinking it was a cavity. After the X-ray (he did not even manually check my teeth) I was told it was not a cavity, but I did have a different cavity, my teeth look good, keep doing what I'm doing. I then went in for a cleaning the next week, she scrubbed the stain(cavity) for about 10 minutes and was told it maybe the beginning of tooth decay and to keep an eye on it. then go in the following week to fill the cavity they found on the x-ray. After I am all done, I am asked when I am coming in to fill my other cavity (the stained one) My mood switches from happy excitement to angry disbelief. I SPECIFICALLY came in to fix one thing, after leaving work early 3 times and spending almost $300 I am still in discomfort with a cavity. Real issues call for a REAL DENTIST. Made the mistake of scheduling an appointment before reading reviews. The first operator was very kind and helpful and gave me so much assurance that this place was going to be great especially since they could get me in the next day. When I began to read the reviews after scheduling the appointment I was hesitant so I decided to call back and just cancel the appointment. When I spoke to the second operator and told her I wanted to cancel, she contradicted me and continuously told me not to listen to the reviews. She also told me that people only post the bad reviews which is incorrect. I work at a specialty doctors office and we have thousands of great reviews. If this place was actually that great it would have more than one star. She continued to contradict me with attitude more than three times even though I told her I wanted to cancel. Instead of her apologizing and just canceling the appointment she continued to judge my opinion and was beyond rude. For this being my first experience with this company, it was not professional at all. I will definitely share my experience with others. If a patient wants to cancel an appointment there should not be any sort of judgment as to why the appointment is canceled. I was told that I needed a $5000 cleaning and they would not do anything else until I had that done. My insurance pays for a cleaning but they won't change anything unless you agree to their treatment plan. Why don't they tell you that up front? The group of people who work at this South County location are amazing. They truly want to help. From the moment I walked in the door I was treated with respect and pampered. Ashley C. And Brittany W. greeted me the day I stopped in to make an appointment. They both listened to my needs, responded so kindly and made me feel at ease immediately. The next day I came back for my appointment and the dental assistants (Racierra C., Jordan and Lawanda ) were all smiling, patient and friendly. They took my x-rays and measured my numbers as I have periodontal issues and if you have it you know theses measurements I'm referring to, while be taken care of by the dental asst. Dr. Sonn came in to do his assessment. Hands down best dentist I've ever met. He was straight forward and didn't give me a crazy treatment plan. He addressed all of my dental needs and then I was taken to the finance department which I was dreading $$ but to my surprise it was quick and way cheaper than I expected. The finance gentleman was knowledgeable and patient as well. Aspen Dental is truly making going to the dentist so transparent and easy.
