They deserve a negative 0 stars. The location off 1604 and Culebra right by the Walmart LIED to my insurance. My husband had to have a tooth pulled a month ago April 2026. Our insurance denied the claim because the Aspen Dental location off 1604 and Culebra reported that they pulled the tooth in 2019!!!. They LIED!!!! And I had to pay out of pocket to have the tooth removed! What else did they charge to my insurance that they didn't do? I got a mouth guard and a general cleaning done here and I paid for what my insurance didn't cover the day of the appointment. they subsequently sent me a revised bill for $120.00 saying my insurance didn't cover the whole thing. As far as I can tell they are just trying to bill me twice for no reason. I called and they told me my insurance didn't cover it, which contradicts what they told me at the time of the appointment. New to area, they were close and took my insurance. After seeing my previous dentist 3 times a year (I go for an extra cleaning for staining) for over a decade, The Aspen dentist walked in and told me I had four filling shot and needed 4 crowns to the tune of almost $6000 without ever even looking in my mouth. The hygienist told me I needed a deep cleaning even though I regularly have teeth cleaned and no issues.They got my insurance coverage for that one visit, but lost a family of four as new patients. She said she couldn't do composites unless I had an expensive deep cleaning. 4000.00 billed to insurance and 800.00 out of pocket. When I show up for my composites she said she can only cover a few bottom teeth with resin and thats it. If I would have known that I wouldn't have gone forward with any services at aspen dental. Was a bit skeptical at first. I saw reviews on yelp about how some stuff was horrible. But then I came across that they had new management. I decided to give it a try. And they blew me away. I had severe wisdom teeth pain on the top and bottom of the left side of my mouth. The receptionist was super helpful, communicative, and was just super helpful. The lady who took my X-rays and gave me the run down was super helpful as well with how to deal with the pain I was feeling, it helped me get some time were I wasn't in pain. Then the doctor who performed my wisdom removal was fast, communicative, and nice. The whole staff was super helpful. The lady then gave me my treatment routine to help with whatever pain and discomfort I might have after the removal. I 100% would recommend this place to anyone looking for dental work. I have to say, as someone with previous trauma from the dentist, this clinic was amazing!! They listened to me and were incredibly accomodating. Dr Barnes saw me for severe pain for a wisdom tooth and he was able to extract it same day. He went at my pace, was extremely gentle and talked me through the entire process. I was able to put my headphones in and listen to music. The staff were super sweet as well. My pain is completely gone and swelling is minimal. I will absolutely be coming back! I got my wisdom teeth pulled on 06/15. My experience was a nightmare and so horrible. The surgeon broke a tool on my tooth and told the nurse to throw the tool away. One nurse was holding my jaw as he was trying to pull the tooth out but it would not come out. During the procedure I was screaming and the surgeon told me to be quiet. When the procedure was done I could barely talk but I was trying tell them I had so much blood in my mouth and if they could suction the blood out before being wheeled out, surgeon told me I need to start spitting out the blood and that "I can't take the suction home". Didn't give me anything to spit in. I had blood all over my neck and shirt after the procedure was done. They sowed all of my holes together and I had 5 teeth pulled all together. My mother was my driver that day, they didn't let her know anything. Only gave me like 3 gauzes and no medicated mouthwash/rise nor did he go over the healing process with me. Didn't let my mother know about the procedure they just pushed me out the room and wheeled me out. I wouldn't recommend going here for anything. My bottom lip and tongue is still numb as well and it has almost been 48hours. Again, No one said anything about the healing process. Super unprofessional! read more

Updating my review. When I went the first time Dr. Leo Davis was amazing, but come to find out he is a traveling dentist and was only there while the dentist for this location was on vacation. Dr. Rana who I saw a week later is not my cup of tea, she seemed to lack empathy, and basically told me to deal with my infection and dry socket until I could see the oral surgeon, I asked her if she could please pack it like Dr.Davis did with the medicated packing , and she acted like it was so inconvenient for her. She finally did irrigate it and pack it, which did make it feel a lot better immediately. Tara who works administration is a gem, she has complete compassion and understanding , and she had the billing codes memorized , you can tell she is a professional with a human side to her. She understood 100% why I couldn't wait for 2 weeks for the surgeon to get back in town (who also travels), and didn't make me feel pressured to schedule right then. She is amazing! read more

Went here after my previous dentist were no longer taking my insurance and thought to myself this could be my new dentist going forward. DEFINITELY NOT!!! I was in for my 6 month check up and as I was going in for my filling on my tooth the dentist knicked my front tooth with her tool and got upset I jumped and blamed me. She asked me after the jumpscare "what's the problem" I answered with a mouth full spit "you" as I pointed directly at her. She got upset and asked if she should continue forward, well no shit my whole mouth is numb and I'm not here to waste time. Anyways, I go to pay and they offer the credit card, not an issue. Horrible customer service. Especially the female at the front desk. On 11/16/21 I called to let them know I won't be able to make it to my appointment because I was sick. She brushed me off without getting my name. I told her she was very rude and I would like to speak to her manager. She told me she was at lunch and she can have the manger call me back and haven't gotten a call back yet. Dr. Patel and staff were very nice. They all took their time in explaining all dental procedures and options. Dr. Patel was very detailed about the care for my teeth and even mentioned that if I wanted a second opinion, to make sure the dentist was as detailed as he was. I appreciated his honesty the office manager was very cool and was very thorough about all expenses and options. She even looked for an oral surgeon that was in network with our insurance. I gave it four stars because the wait time was a lot longer than expected with appointments. Spent a good amount of time on the phone to schedule an appt. for my boyfriend who had an impacted wisdom tooth and severe tooth pain. The agent was so friendly, we got an appointment Same day, and he even scheduled me, in addition to my bf for a free consultation. All of that to show up to the office and be told that if we had previously tested positive for Covid we would need proof that we were retested and negative for Covid. We followed all instructions given to us at the Covid testing center and quarantined well past the recommended 14 days. And have been symptom free for well over 4 weeks. I understand that these are sensitive times, but does life just stop after you test positive? We fortunately were able to get in with the Smile Workshop which was much more accommodating and understanding that my Bf was in need of more immediate attention. read more

First of all all the people here are very nice and the prices are good. Unfortunately that's where the positives end. After a week and a half I had an appointment to get my partials they did not come in instead of calling me and rescheduling they let me take time off of work and make my appointment just to tell me they did not come in and they would call me when they did. and then when I called them to tell them them they did not fit correctly and was cutting into my gums to where I could not even wear them anymore they made me an appointment for 3 days later. This office is one of the worst run offices I have experienced. What a shame i did like going there. I will stick to Aspen since these are their Dentures but not this office. First of all, I'd like to say that Aspen Dental office in Selma has been very professional, courteous and provided me with the care you would hope for from your personal dentist. That being said, this review is prompted by my last 2 visits to another Aspen Dental off. The office at 6603 W Loop 1604 N, Ste 101,San Antonio, TX 78254. In 2015, when I arrived from California, I was in need of new dentures. I researched dental offices in San Antonio and decided to try Aspen. They gave me competitive price (I purchased the very best they offered) and guaranty so I chose them as my dentist. Everything went the way we had planned, together. No surprises. Good price, good service, good quality. After a year I needed to have the dentures relined. I called, made my appointment and the visit went smooth! My dentures fit like new again! Well, 2 years after that last visit I felt my dentures needed another refit. I had moved to the west side and opted to go the an Aspen Dental on my new side of town. I guess this is where they fall down. The office on 1604 (West side) said that, in order to get the reline they must first do a $200 procedure! Say WHAT??? Yes, no reline without the procedure. What a waste of 2 hours! I left, thinking I would find another option. Another year went by and my dentures really need an adjustment! So I made another appointment at the same office. BIG mistake! The same dentist, Reyna, came in to examine me and said "It looks like we have seen each other before." Well, after her examination of my dentures and x-rays, she sent in the office manager to again tell me that she recommended the same procedure! She also offered to follow up with the original Aspen Dental office in Selma to see if they would do the procedure. I walked out. I was not happy. When I got home, after calming down, I reached out to the Selma office and made a new appointment. They let me know that they will do the best they can to help me. I really love the dentists at this place and the receptionist who I usually speak to while I'm there is lovely, but I keep having issues with my bills! When I first came to Aspen Dental I explained that I only wanted the fluoride rinse if my dental insurance covered it. I was told it was covered, and the benefits papers I received from my insurance said it was covered too (two per year for adults). Months later I started receiving a bill for the fluoride, so I brought my papers in and showed a gentleman who worked there that my insurance covered fluoride rinses. He said he would figure out what went wrong and get back to me. I called and called but no one ever got back to me. It has now been 5 months since this guy said he would get back to me. I then began getting bills for my previous examination so I called Aspen to query that, but I wasn't given an answer and was advised to call my insurance instead. I called my insurance who then called Aspen dental. My insurance got back to me and said "Aspen dental have said the examination bill was a mistake and that you don't have to worry about that, your insurance covers it." Two weeks later I got a second bill for the examination and a third for the fluoride rinses and Aspen explained to my insurance that they had entered in a code for the fluoride that made it NOT covered by my insurance even though it should have been. It just seems like they're trying to get money out of me in any way possible. I keep calling and leaving messages asking for a call back and explaining what has happened but nobody ever calls back. I have now moved dentists and have no intention to ever pay these bills as I should have never got them in the first place since my insurance covers these procedures! TL;DR: They told me the fluoride was covered when in fact they use a different code so that it ISN'T covered after all, and my examinations ARE covered and the code even matches the one in my benefits papers but they're still trying to charge me for them. read more

This is a horrible place. The staff and Dr. Patel is very unprofessional. When I told him that I wasn't having all the work that HE insisted I need. He wanted to throw x-rays in there in which he already had emailed from my previous Dentist office. After the x-rays and he received a little money from my insurance, then he tells me that I could go to Affordable Dentist. Please don't waste your time or energy. All they care about is your money. I must add, there was one beautiful receptionist at the front desk, that was over the top friendly. There was one girl examining my mouth, she needs to be working in a factory. Unprofessional! No care for the patient, and I didn't get my cleaning that I went in for. I don't have anything wrong with my teeth according to the x-rays. I just need cleaning to clear up some gingivitis but it was so apparent they want to squeeze as much dollar they can get from me. So I had no chose but to leave without the cleaning. Now I can't go elsewhere to get cleaning because they used the x-ray portion of my insurance coverage. I would have walked away if I had known what the heck was going on but nope they just took me back there, directed me to take my jacket and purse off and proceed to take x-rays. Once that process started, it follows with cleaning right? NO! its followed with bullshit talk and belittling me for not keeping up with my 6-month cleaning, at least I don't have cavities or any problems, I JUST NEED CLEANING! I'm new to San Antonio, to Texas for that matter. So I was hoping this place would be my dentist office. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND UNPROFESSIONAL SERVICE. Being a "DOCTOR" is to serve the people, not try to squeeze as much money as you possibly can from them. Just a disappointing experience. Oh i forgot to add, when i made my appointment they asked me what the appointment is for, I said CLEANING. So i get there 15 minutes before my appointment at 12pm and there was no record of my appointment. I showed them the text I received from Aspen confirming my appointment. The best they could do was have me come back at 5pm (very inconvenient). Don't go to this place! I had the unfortunate experience of taking my son in for a new patient evaluation. It took more than an hour to get him checked in and more wait until the dentist came. Dr.Patel was nice enough but the procedure of getting anything down takes forever as the office needs to check with the insurance multiple times. Initially, they verified the copay and later when it was time for cleaning on the same day, we had to wait and have them verify with insurance again. That's when the nightmare escalated since their computer and phone system went down. We then waited another 45 min. and finally the office staff said best to go home and they will call to reschedule. So this initial visit took 2.45 hours and we still didn't get basic teeth cleaning. Furthermore, I waited 2 weeks and no one contacted me until I called back. They initially could not locate my son's records even though he got X-rays done on that initial visit. There's also a discrepancy in what the dentist recommended vs. what he documented in his chart. Being a physician myself, that discrepancy is not acceptable and the whole Aspen process for insurance verification is too burdensome and time consuming for patients. Though Dr. Patel is a fine dentist I am afraid Aspen dental has lost our business due to "Aspen protocol". My daughter happened to lose her tooth while getting her teeth cleaned. The assistants and hygienist refused to let her take her tooth home as it was considered "bio-hazard". After doing a little research myself, I disagree with the line they were feeding me that this was standard all over Texas. This place is insane. They apparently "check with your insurance" and tell you all your routine examinations, fluoride etc. are covered then still charge you for it so you have to spend your own precious time sorting it out. Then, they send false information to debt collectors. Two years after first visiting Aspen Dental (I went to two routine appointments there before realizing how terrible they are when it comes to billing and switched) I get a call from a debt collector saying I owe almost $300 for a medication I was given in May 2014. I contact my old insurance and send them a copy of my bill from that appointment, proving that I was never given a $300 medication and actually only received a $24 mouthwash. The bill shows that I PAID for this mouthwash there and then. A month later the debt collection agency calls me again saying my debt has been amended by Aspen Dental and I now only owe $24. I'm being billed AGAIN for something I already paid for? Is this how Aspen make their money? They just send debt collectors after people who have already paid and hope they don't keep their receipts? Well, I keep my receipts, unfortunately for them. Still waiting on that manager to call me back, along with the two other people from the corporate office who said they would "call me right back" over a month ago now. read more
