So glad a previous writer said to look for the gas station as a landmark and parking lot, I would have driven past it and gone elsewhere. It is modest in appearance from the outside. We almost didn't go in. Once inside, we were greeted right away and seated. The menu is not overly ambitious... just 2 sides of a page for either breakfast or lunch, separate menus. But what they cook, they do well. My husband ordered the cheesteak sub, and it came with French fries, perfect! He shared his fries. I got the French Onion Soup, well done, and the cheese browned on top. It had incredible flavors, including oregano and a bit of heat to it. The descriptor stated sweet and savory, that sweetness, I have to disagree. It was perfect without any hint of sweetness. Drinks were very large, much bigger than expected. I was prepared not to go because maps said they closed at 8pm and it was already 7:45p. Come to find out they closed at 9. Even so, because there were no customers they had planned to close their kitchen early. Luckily for us, the host/server was so kind to check and confirm that we could still dine in. They had already cleaned the dining area so we sat near the bar. It was all the same. It's a table with chairs. Where you have it doesn't change the experience. My sister ordered fried pickles and she said she didn't like it as much as she would like. She said it didn't retain that picked taste. I tried it and I thought it was fine. Then again, I am not a fan of pickles so there's that. My brother tried the fish tacos and he praised our server for recommending it. He said it was really good. There were fish and chips that I didn't get to take a photo of. It's the same fish that's in the tacos so it only means those were quite good too. I asked for the fettuccine Alfredo pasta with added shrimp and chicken. That was so so so so so good! I could not even say that how I described it did it justice. It's a must try! It was incredibly delicious! The chicken nuggets for the kids were bigger than expected. They looked like tenders! I would rejoice but the kids were sad it was not nuggets. I would say that was an upgrade! The portion was good too. I should've ordered that meal for myself! Lol. My niece left her quesadillas only because she was picking off of my daughters fries that came with her hot dog. I can't really say much about the hot dog. It's a hot dog! I suppose the only thing I wasn't prepared for was the kids beverages weren't quite included in their meal and was a separate fee. Apart from that, everything was great. Used Yelp to find a place to grab brunch close to where I was staying for the weekend and this place looked rated well enough to give a try. It's a very small place for the restaurant side and I was just lucky enough to get there in time on a Sunday for the breakfast menu. I've had a similar dish on OCMD and this would not be as good, but the sauce was tasty and overall an okay breakfast. Waitress was super nice and efficient. Our food came out fast and hot. Aside from the great service, they left the door open, I assume for fresh air, so the flies come in and you are constantly swatting them away from your plate of food. Popped in for a later dinner - about 8:30 on a Friday night. There was a party of about 40 seated together, pretty loud. Our waitress ( from Siberia) was just lovely and did her best to seat us and get us served right away. We actually moved to a table on the bar side as the big party table was so loud, however the music on the bar side was just as loud. We ordered the crab dip with pretzels and fish and chips. Probably because they were so busy the fish and chips were really over cooked. The crab dip was dry. We boxed up and left. They do have free parking and it looked like the bar is fully stocked. I left my phone to charge while eating here so I don't have any pictures but- this was a nice experience at around 11 on a Saturday morning for brunch, and thanks to our friends who walked over sooner - sat at the bar. The place had a nice feel to it - looks like a good place to go off the beaten path. I would try other options, and in the adjacent gas station convenience store- there is a pickup window where you can order from the restaurant instead of sitting and dining in. We started with mimosas and bloodies, Nd the bartender (who is also a teacher) was very nice and attentive. The menu had a variety of options from the traditional breakfast meals, to Benedict's, and omelettes. I opted for the bacon and cheese omelette - which you can customize which cheese you want on it - and it was very tasty. One of my buds, who had just woke from a 16 hour coma, ordered too much which allowed me to try their Belgian waffle. Was nice and airy and had a good flakiness to it. They seemed to be observing Covid precautions with the diner side available and spaced seating for customers to dine in. A few minutes later she comes back I give my order of steak and eggs (any kind) in which I ask for Benedict and home fries. The waitress seems unsure if I can get that type of combo. I show her in the menu where all of the options I want for eggs Benedict are there and the menu says any style. She says she will check on it. About 10-15 mins later the food comes at no point in between the wait peroid did she come back to inform me if it was ok or not. Moving along unlike the other tables there wasn't condiments readily accessible. We had to wait for the waitress to come back 5 mins later to ask her for condiments. The steak I ordered medium well was dry and tough to cut through especially when they give you a butter knife lol. The eggs benedict was over cooked and I was deprived of the juicy yolk which would've helped the dry potatoes. I was thoroughly unimpressed with this meal. Maybe it was the understaffing or just a rough start to the morning but I didn't feel the down home hospitality you receive when you enter a diner. The meal and service didn't reflect it either. Just moved to the area and live close by. The bar is in a gas station parking lot so honestly I wasn't sure what to expect. But the interior was clean and the restaurant side was modern and updated. Where has this place been all the times (50 years) we've come to OCMD? We went for breakfast & were the only ones there for a while. Meals we had were standard Benedict, Fried Green Tomato Benedict, and a veggie-cheese omelette. All the meals were delicious & the portions generous. The hash browns were very tasty! Long story short, I ordered a patty melt, medium, with cheddar & American cheese, mushrooms, no onions, with fries. In this COVID recovery period, there are many ways that businesses are responding to the lack of a full workforce. During the 2021 White Marlin Open, many places have restricted hours and had turned away business. A small group of us went to the Assateague Diner and arrived about 25 mins before closing. Given what we had experienced at other restaurants that week, we expected to be turned away. Instead, we were pleasantly surprised. The bartender was also covering all the tables in the restaurant area. She invited us in with a cheerful and positive attitude (which had seemed to be in short supply all week). She asked us to please bear with her as she was covering all table service by herself. How we were treated for the next hour should be a training course for all servers. She had little control over the volume of people in the restaurant, what they would ask for and when, how long it was going to take the kitchen, or even how well the food turned out. What she did impact was everyone's perspective across the entire experience. By being positive, entertaining, and diligently trying to get everyone served quickly, she impressed upon all in the restaurant a sense that, even in the chaos, all was well. Beyond the impeccable service, the food was quite good. We were wanting a break from seafood and the burgers and other sandwiches were very good. I had the cheesesteak and, while admittedly hungry, it was one of the best cheesesteaks I have had (I did note in other Yelp reviews it was good before ordering). We visit Ocean City and Assateague yearly and will make the Assateague Diner a regular stop from now on. read more

I have had food from Assateague Diner twice now via a delivery app. My sister helped me order both times. First time she treated and this second time was just easier as she was in the app. I don't know why I didn't review the first time and I don't know why I don't have any pictures from this second time. However I can tell you that since both times were off season and during the pandemic, it was nice to know that I have this solid go to option when I am in Ocean City. Both times I got the fish tacos. The first time we had some cheese fries that I should have known would not travel well and I did not have a toaster oven to attempt a proper reheat. The microwave was okay but not great. This last time, as we were all starving we got fish tacos again but also got a burger and wings to share. The wings were gigantic and awesome with a kick from the Old Bay. The people here are really nice and tries to make sure everything is going well. I had the western omelet with biscuits and my friend had a steak omelet with fruits. The fruits didn't look fresh, it must have been sitting there for a bit. The eggs were REAL!!! you dont really see that in many breakfast places. The biscuits were also good but I wish they were more buttery, it was on the dry side. My other friend enjoyed their chicken and waffles which I actually tasted and must say they were good. They use chicken tenders instead of regular chicken! There is room for improvement with some of the food quality: home fries and fruits! There was a Yelp deal I used to get $5 off as well! Small dive bar with a good location in West OC. Bartender doubles as the wait staff in the diner side of the joint. There is normally not another waitress in the dining room with the exception of weekend breakfast. So, the bar customers usually wait for the bartender to be done servicing the dining room before getting served. You may sit unacknowledged for 5-10 minutes waiting for a drink at the bar. Ordered the crab soup on a Saturday afternoon and it was curdled. We notified the bartender, and she made faces at us and grabbed the soup saying a nasty comment to us. We ordered the cheeseburger sliders instead and they were wonderful! Annie did not take the cost of the soup off of our check. Very rude bartender! We will not be back on Saturdays knowing that day is her regular scheduled day to work. Went back on a weekday to give the place another try. Signage says for help to go to bartender, so I did only to be given an attitude that I was no in the correct part of the store.
