We have been fans of Tessa for a long time and were excited to try Asset. We made a reservation for my birthday with my parents and our son at 5 pm on a Saturday and let them know we would be bringing a stroller and would like a high chair. Two days before the reservation they emailed us stating summarily that 'we don't have high chairs and don't allow strollers'. Not even a qualifier 'but we will do our best to accommodate you'. Just a flat no. We have always been welcomed at Tessa, both before and after we had our son, and thought we would be treated the same at Asset. Especially at a quiet hour before it got too busy. I guess not. Interesting strategy considering there are absolutely no young families on the Upper West Side looking for a nice place to spend money.... read more

Reading the reviews and from my recent experience it would appear this establishment intentionally mistreats patrons with children. Not only was the service pitiful but the food was lackluster. Disappointing to have this on the UWS and to find out it's from the owners of Tessa. read more

I recently moved to the Upper West Side and while there are many fantastic restaurants, Asset has been my favorite so far. Their indoor spacing and cleanliness is very COVID-friendly. We walk past this place on the way home, pretty often. We were exited to see a new restaurant that was about to open....so we went there on the very first evening of its opening, around 5:30pm. The hostesses never looked at us, too busy discussing guests amongst them. We eventually asked for a menu and asked a bit about their cuisine. She managed a short "Mediterranean". Asset is one of the most amazing restaurants in New York - and I've lived there my entire life. The concept and vibe are alive, fresh and fun. But the food and wait staff bring it all together. I hosted a party there last weekend and everything went flawlessly. I expected great food, but the reality exceeded my expectations. (The steak and sea scallops were especially wonderful, as were the incredible desserts.) If you get to eat at only one restaurant on Manhattan's West Side this year, make it to Asset. We had a large party here (15 people) in one of their private rooms on a busy Saturday night and were so impressed with the quality of the food and service. Food was served family style, in enormous portions that satisfied the entire table, with a large selection on the menu (we leaned more in a meat direction but had great options for vegetarians including a delicious chopped salad and a mushroom risotto). Wine was reasonably priced and we order some delicious bottles.Pacing was perfect, with enough time for folks to eat and also socialize in between courses. Dessert was scrumptious. "We're running behind". These are not the words you want to hear from the hostess at 8:25 on a Saturday night, when you'd booked a table for 8:30. But at Asset, we weren't the only ones told this. The bar area was jammed with people waiting to eat. A half an hour later we were seated. For some reason, there was a DJ playing music at club level volume which meant we had to shout to have a conversation. The waiter finally brought us 3 small pieces of bread, elegantly presented. We fought like starving animals over that precious third piece. We assumed that the chaos and dysfunction probably extended to the kitchen so we ordered the mozzarella, figuring they couldn't screw it up. Apparently others had come to the same conclusion, because they'd run out. So I had steak frites which was ok and my wife had over salted pasta. It was an utter disaster. Absolutely superb. An incredibly strong addition to the Upper West Side. The food is as good as you find at the sister restaurant Tessa, and it features the same welcome from a staff that that really cares. I read them before coming here and it's clear to me that some of the negative reviews are completely absurd. How did somebody give a poor number of stars to a restaurant where they have not even eaten? Another person seems freaked out because they got poured the wrong glass of wine. Not charged, just poured. Grow up. The food is consistently excellent, at least at the dinner party for five that I just had, and every other visit, and the space is undeniably beautiful. Highly recommend, even by a Yelper who gives some pretty critical reviews. read more

It was a cold evening, and we didn't want to sit outside since the outdoor tables are not enclosed and there was no heat. They sat us inside, and almost every table was occupied by the time we finished our meal. Our shared orancini were good, though a bit bland. My companion loved her salmon, perfectly done. I was a bit disappointed in my Trofie with asparagus. The asparagus were sliced so thin they lost flavor, and I had to request and wait quite a while for grated cheesed (which I would have thought was a staple with pasta dishes). Dessert was described as a chocolate mousse, but it was actually a rather solid pudding (budino on the bill) and a bit difficult to manoeuver out of the glass. There was also a surprisingly long wait for coffee. I found service a bit slow and inattentive. I can't chalk this up to Covid since they didn't seem understaffed. On the whole, I can recommend the restaurant but think they should work on the service. read more

If not for a bad experience with the bartender, Omar, I would have given a higher rating. I live a block away from Asset and have been eagerly waiting for it to open. I walked in and just beamed at how beautiful and comfortable it was. Love the décor, however a little too dark. The architecture is lovely and I thought "My new neighborhood spot" We sat at the bar and ordered appetizers and drinks. I looked at my watch and it was 6pm on the nose, so I called the bartender, Omar, over and asked for my last Happy Hour drink. He refused. He said "Happy Hour is over." I said "Omar, it's only 6pm. Happy Hour is from 4pm to 6pm." He still refused, so I asked him to send over a manager. Instead of sending the manager over, he spent a very long time explaining himself. (I could see from a distance) I got up from the bar and approached the manager, I think his name is Brandon, who told me he agreed with me. That really pissed off Omar. I later stopped by Tessa and spoke with the owner, Will. He remembered me peering in the window weeks before it opened. He was very apologetic and said he'd take care of it. Why would a bartender be that rude to a patron, when the restaurant has only been opened for 1 (one) week? Is he not smart enough to want repeat customers? 5 star for the service, vibe and decor. For people who look for a restaurants to have some good long chats, this is THE place in the UWS neighborhood. The ultra high ceiling is a gem, vibe is hip (i have to say quite downtown-ish in a good way), with great cocktails and service. Nothing is in your face. All staffs are attentive and have the best attitude. Food we had were quite good. We had baby clams, the sauce is phenomenal! Entree is a grilled snapper with truffle butter, this item is not on the menu and it's the specials for the night. Truffle isn't strong but overall still a good dish. To be honest, this place is great for UWS standard. You will be able to find something quite the same quality in terms of food/drinks in another neighborhood. Hence 4 stars. read more

ASSET, new sister restaurant to one of our UWS favorites, TESSA, is such a welcomed addition to the neighborhood. I have dined both at the bar, as well as in the beautifully designed dining room. The specialty cocktails are delicious and the wine list is approachable with great selections. The menu features an assortment of shareable apps and some great pastas and grilled entrees. My favorite dish was the special truffle linguini (add to the menu, pls!!!). And they have some of the best fries, just like TESSA! The apple pie, served in a cute little cast iron skillet with ice cream on top, was the most delicious dessert of them all. The service is attentive and the managers are friendly and welcoming. I am so happy to have found a great new restaurant for when we venture to the West Side. I look forward to trying weekend brunch and will definitely be eating here many more times to come. read more

GREAT experience all around! We arrived with 7 people and they gave us a round corner table upstairs where we could hear each other talk. The decor is beautiful - great ambiance. I ordered the seared scallops on mashed celery root and it was wonderful. Everyone was happy with their food and service was also top notch. We lingered a little since the family hadn't been together in awhile and, despite a very busy Saturday night, no one rushed or pushed us out. Will definitely be back. read more

What a great addition to the neighborhood!!! Beautiful space and surprisingly huge! We had a 7pm reservation. We showed up a little early and waited at the bar. Even though we didn't have to wait too long one of the managers gave us a free round of drinks! It was dark and the music was pretty loud for us early birds but we used our iPhone flashlights and adjusted to the noise. The place was packed. I loved the harvest salad and the grilled tuna with a choice of side. (I picked the broccoli rabe). I like having the option to chose my side. My husband had the octopus and the duck. All were very good. The wine pour was smaller then I had hoped for but what can you do. I'm hoping they have happy hour food and drinks. (Maybe they already do). read more

They're still fairly new so they are working out the kinks. The service was a little slow during Sunday brunch. And the server was not as familiar with the menu options . Food presentation was great and the pancakes were great! I was surprised to see visible water spots, lite food residue on the silverware . I had to change silverware few times . Overall very good and would go back again. In town visiting our daughter and Asset was recommended. The inside is visually appealing and we sat downstairs. Would have like to see upstairs. The service was top notch, Mark our server was attentive and very knowledgeable of the menu. Drinks were good and the pour was generous. The food was very good, as we all shared. We started off with the Wagyu pigs in a blanket and Lollipop Buffalo Chicken Wings. Then we ordered the Shrimp with Brussel sprouts, Lobster Risotto, Chicken, and Wagyu Burger. We all Loved what we had. We were not impressed with the Wagyu Pigs in a blanket, would not order again and the Lollipop Chicken Wings, would like to get a few more for the price. I would recommend to management to train the hostess better, as they set the first and very important impression of Asset. How can TESSA and ASSET be so different? Service is night & day - as in ASSET servers don't really look interested or make you feel welcome, food was ok but now 'wow' like TESSA, and the whole experience was underwhelming. I suppose my opinion was also tainted by the fact that despite an early reservation on a Friday we got a pretty crap table in the middle of upstairs, despite empty tables all around the edges & empty booths downstairs ... presumably they were reserved, but there were still plenty empty by the time we left. Just doesn't have good energy for me - sorry ASSET, won't be coming back, but based on the feeling we got I doubt you're too bothered. read more

Been here twice for drinks - this review isn't about the food, i can't speak to that. However, the bartender is not good. Between two of us, we ordered three of the same drink over the course of the evening and it was wildly different each time. I've never seen such inconsistency, much less at a bar charging $15/cocktail. Luckily we were there during happy hour and it was $10/per but still very odd - the drink only appeared to be what it was supposed to be one time out of the three. Another time I came here, she held onto the credit card for an open tab (which is normal) and then insisted she didn't have it when we were ready to close (not normal). Eventually she realized she had it. However the vibe is very nice and the neighborhood needs more places like this. read more

My husband and I were fortunate to find this delicious restaurant conveniently located on the upper west side (not far from the park and American Museum of Natural History). We contacted Asset's event coordinator, Bill to plan an intimate, socially distanced dinner with our immediate families to celebrate our Central Park elopement. The upper loft of Asset was PERFECT for this special occasion. In a year where health is the utmost concern, we felt very safe dining indoors due to the size of the restaurant (HUGE!), the cleaning protocols, and the distance and partitions between tables. Cocktails and food were excellent (offering a yummy, diverse menu with seasonal touches). The apple dessert is a MUST!!! There aren't enough stars to recognize the service at Asset! Bill is an excellent communicator, making planning super easy despite extra Covid precautions and preparation. The staff were fantastic! We recommend Asset for an intimate date night (outdoor seating as well), a casual drop-in or a socially-distanced group event. read more

This place is beautiful and comfortable. Service is nice but too busy. We asked for 3 of the same beer, got a different one. The food is either a miss or hit. Appetizers are kind of a joke (like the $15 "pig in a blanket"). We got the hummus served with 5 potatoes chips. They immediately asked if we wanted extra chips. Of course we said yes and that was an extra $3. Which is nothing compared to the total amount of the bill but still. Drinks aren't very good. To end on a positive note though... the tuna is very good! read more

We had a great time and a delicious meal at ASSET. The vibe is fun and classy in a beautiful open space. Everything we ordered was tasty, including the homemade bread that was offered as we sat down. We had the snapper, scallops, grilled octopus and a pasta dish. Save room for dessert as the pastry chef is phenomenal!! This restaurant is absolutely incredible and should be top rated!!! The space is gorgeous - it's sleek and modern and is dimly lit with candlelight, perfect for a romantic date night or other special occasion. The music was a perfect volume to carry on a conversation without overhearing everyone else's conversation. The food was to die for! My date and I ordered the wagyu pigs in a blanket, arancini, cavatelli with braised lamb ragout, wagyu and lamb meatball, and hangar steak with a side of mushrooms. Literally everything was phenomenal and perfectly done, the highlights being the wagyu pigs in a blanket and the meatball with perfectly cooked sauce. We thought we didn't have room for dessert, but the key lime pie in a glass was so creamy and delicious that we ate every bite. The cocktails were amazing and the Napa Valley Quilt Cabernet Sauvignon was so smooth and one of the best wines I've ever had. Our server Carlos had a very busy section yet was incredibly attentive to our every need and gave us great recommendations. I highly recommend this amazing restaurant! read more

This is a REALLY COOL sounding place I was excited to come here. I met a friend at the bar and waited over an hour for the person next to him to leave so I could sit down. Than someone came up and tried to take the chair next to my friend. I explained I had been waiting for over an hour and he said he just wanted to sit next to his wife as there were now two open chairs. He left upset and I felt bad like a jerk. I took the 2nd chair and moved it a few spaces down to where his wife was sitting I said I will ask if people dont mind moving down. There were 3 couples in between us. I apologized for interrupting and asked one couple if they wouldnt mind sliding over they said of course not and moved. I asked the 2nd and they said sure no problem. Than someone got into my face and rudely barked at me and said "Excuse me Id appreciate it if you didnt ask the ENTIRE BAR to move down......" I said im sorry I was just trying to make it so this couple could sit togeth.... he cut me off and said "Yeah if your gunna ask people to move you ask me you DONT do it yourself......" You know what? I dont have time for this I politely asked and no one had an issue but the GENERAL MANAGER PATRICK had to speak to me rudely and unwelcoming for asking two parties just to shift down a few inches which they didnt even mind The couple came up to me afterwards and Thanked me and shook my hand and said I was a good person and thanked me. I will NEVER EVER come here again. That is not how a General Manager should treat any guest. So what? I politely asked and 4 people shifted a few inches. He dismissed me and scolded me and made me feel totally unwelcome. This happens daily at bars its not a big deal that you need to berate a customer and tell them off. Once upon a time, in the 1990's, people used to travel to the UWS from all over NYC to experience places like Fujiyamamama for food, Reebok to workout, Sugar bar, which still speaks for itself, Prohibition, even Venue, Dakota Bar and a nightclub that was on Columbus around 72nd. There were always super long waits to all the brunch spots, I can keep going...but I won't! If any of this resonates or inspires you, come check out Asset! This is a restaurant (is it a restaurant? or is it a nightclub?) that tries way too hard. It doesn't fit in with the surrounding neighborhood, and it's so loud you either shout or repeatedly say "what?!" to the person next to you. I don't think they have any idea of what they want to be. read more

Went last night and the food and service was decent but the hostess was an absolute snob. She was super rude and treated us like we were dumb. When I go out to dinner, I don't like to feel like it's a chore for people to take me to my table or even speak to me. I'm a host as well so normally I would never write a review like this but my entire party just felt so disrespected by this girl. A friend and I stopped by for an early dinner on a Thursday full of hope and enthusiasm for this new local establishment. The weather was ideal for outdoor dining and there were several available tables. We asked the hostess (I believe her name was Shay) if we could sit at a table closer to the building out of the sun, as the sun was quite strong. She replied that since there was just two of us we could not have a table for four, despite the fact that there several empty tables for four people. She proceeded to say walk-ins are first come first serve....if this is the case we were the first as there was NO ONE else waiting for a table. After being seated in the blazing sun we decided it wouldn't be an enjoyable dinner and decided to go elsewhere. We landed at another new local restaurant, Covacha, where the food was fabulous and the hospitality was over the top! I guess all's well that ends well, but it was still disappointing to experience poor service at a restaurant we were so looking forward to enjoying and supporting. Ironically, while walking home we had to pass Asset again...there were still many tables near the building that remained empty.
