The setup is good, we had made reservations, and were seated on our promised time. Sun brunch - the place was at 40% capacity. Our waitress was friendly, but not attentive at all. We did not get the complimentary chips that we noticed, other tables received, and taking our order took forever. Food was not that great either. My Breakfast Burrito ($17) lacked seasoning, and the flavor really came from Avocado! The good: An amazing happy hour frozen paloma and some delicious rice & beans (add a couple shakes of hot sauce!) The bad: Unfortunately some of the worst meat I've ever had on a taco. The pork tasted like it had been reheated 7 times - just beyond dry and crusty. The steak was extremely grisly/chewy. When my husband got invited on a random Thursday night no less to sit on a 3hr panel on The Loft hosted by Ephrat Asherie (the queen of blending B-girl energy with sleek choreo), we were STARVING by the end of it. Playa Betty's was a winner for me, Friday night around 6pm. First impressions... walked in & there were about three employees in the front "hosts". No one greeted me nor acknowledged me when I walked in. Yikes, that wasn't a good start. Thankfully my coworkers were already seated at a table so they flagged me down. Our waiter Sam was the sweetest! All smiles, great communication & she got everything right. HEADS UP to my vegans they no longer have the vegan enchiladas which is what I was gonna order according to my fellow yelpers suggestions. The food was mediocre, hospitality was lacking and should have read the yelp reviews first. Google had it as 4.5. The hostess sat us outside which was fine but threw a menu on the table and said sorry you'll have to share we are running short. Then place a tap water bottle with 2 little juice cups on the table and left. Server came over and asked what we wanted. I can't rate the food because we were never served. My friend and I popped in for happy hour and asked to be sat outside. We were sat immediately and given a carafe of water and then abandoned for 15 min. No servers present outside at all. We then saw the host and made eye contact. He came over and we explained. He said he would send a server over right away. He then came back to say all the servers were in a meeting but would be back very soon. We sat another 10 min and nothing. So we left. I really enjoyed the experience here, but if you're ordering a pitcher of margaritas (we ordered as a large group since it was cheaper than individual) I would advise against it. Perhaps it is the quality of the tequila or marg mix but they really did taste off. Had the fish tacos which were delicious and the rice and beans were also great. Guac was alright. Fantastic food, vibe, and area!! I came to Playa Betty to have dinner before a show at the Beacon Theatre (it's right across the street.) I was a bit worried since it was happy hour and the place was PACKED. I opted to sit at a table instead of the bar since it was crowded. I was seated quickly, and my food arrived quickly as well! I didn't have as much of a wait time as I feared. I drank two Palomas (shoutout to the server who came back to check in on me before happy hour ended!!) and a taco dinner, which comes with any 3 tacos of your choice and a side of rice and beans. I've been here a few times and the food for me is just mediocre. The prices here are standard. I most recently ordered the Marley taco with Jamaican-style jerk chicken with shredded kale, plantain and Scotch bonnet aioli. I was really interested to try such a different sounding taco. Super cute place! I'm forever in the beach state of mind, so while walking down Amsterdam, this place obviously caught my eye. What a great unofficial start to beach season! Got a nice table on the inside lining the open windows overlooking the street. There were so many things that looked good to me on the menu, but ultimately went with the breakfast burrito: scrambled eggs, Jack cheese, avocado, and tots (in the burrito!). The burrito arrived hot and huge, and somehow, being stuffed among everything, the tots remained crunchy. (No one likes a soggy, oily tot!). Delicious hot sauce was offered at the table along with sour cream, and I loaded that bad boy up. I'm still amazed I ate the whole thing, but it was just too good to stop.
