Assi is an incredible food-store-- variety as far as the eye can see. If you can't find it ANYWHERE ELSE, you can probably find it at Assi. And if you're searching for a new and interesting snack food or vegetable to cook with, Assi's your best bet. I just derive so much goddamn pleasure from this place, to the point where I go there even when I am not in need of groceries. Sometimes I go and just play with (fine...provoke) the fresh crabs, browse through Bidet Land (Seriously. It exists.), or marvel at the extensive selection of state-of-the-art rice cookers. Their meat selection is pretty impressive as well-- so many different cuts to choose from, it's inspiring! One particularly memorable visit entailed oogling at a gallon of ox blood in the refrigerated section. It's a produce wonderland, a fish market, a food court and an amusement park all in one. Checked this place out yesterday. I love Asian grocery stores and this one is by far the best I've ever been to. Upon walking in, I was immediately impressed with the large produce section. There's a wide variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, peppers, herbs, etc. From there, we checked out the butcher/deli & dessert area and tasted a few samples of what they had to offer, yum! The fish and meat all looked extremely fresh and well packaged. No funny smell in this store!!! The prices were really good too! There was at least one isle dedicated to Mexican food, which I love! I made my way over to the teas and was very excited to find Thai tea and instant Bubble tea. This place is almost like a department store in the wide variety of items you'll find. I saw everything from Workout equipment to household goods to VHS rental to jewelry, perfume, clothes, shoes, even an insurance agency inside the store!!! I was especially excited to discover the food court! Their food court consists of around 7 (I didn't count) "restaurants", each one specializing in a different type of food. I ordered some spicy squid noodles and my boyfriend got some Korean pork bbq. We both liked the food, but it was nothing to really rave over. The prices were good for the amount of food we got. While eating, I noticed the prices for their Sushi and got really excited. 2 normal Maki rolls for $7.50, 1 special Maki Roll for only $7.50. This is about half the cost of other Sushi restaurants so I'm really wanting to come back soon to try it out. If it's good, I'll be here all the time! Also, HUGE selling point on this place! They have a Bubble Tea stand!!!! They offer a lot of different flavors. I ordered Thai Tea flavored and my boyfriend got White Chocolate, which was the better of the two. I love this store! It's got all my Korean ingredients and more! I just wish it was closer to where I live. They are fully stocked of pretty much anything I need and they also have a decent food court, bakery, and little shops inside in case you need make up too! I will say that regarding the food court, I would stick with Friends for food. The other ones did not fair well on my taste buds. Are you in need of Korean appliances, kitchenware, etc? Buyer beware. Love the store and have been a regular since they opened. However: a word of caution. ALWAYS CHECK YOUR RECEIPT AND THE CONTENTS OF YOUR BAG. yesterday I was charged $11 for a block of cheese labeled $5.49. Thankfully I caugh the "error" and went to customer service to get it fixed. I assumed (wrongly, it turned out) that there would be a price adjustment and refund. The attendant and this person who claimed to be the manager refused to refund the price difference and said I could return the cheese if I did not want to pay the price on receipt. They claimed the shelf price was a "mistake". Wow, what a way to run a grocery store. Put one price on the shelf and double it when it is time to pay. My local grocery store (giant) makes mistakes like this as well. However they match the shelf listed price and refund the difference or give the item for free depending on the policy of the day. Also, twice in the last year I have paid for items and reached home to find that the items I paid for did not make it home with me. Beware. read more

For the price, this is a great deal. The food plaza has a cafeteria style, but with little boutiques that sell much better food than you could get in a typical American mall. The food court has several stands to choose from. You can get Korean, Japanese, and some Chinese-style dishes. The best Korean food stand is Friends. They have HUGE portions for as little as $5-7. I particularly enjoy the kimchi fried egg. It is always very satisfying and I have enough left over for dinner or a snack. The seafood noods is wonderful. A large portion can feed a small family, if you share. Everyone that I have brough here has enjoyed it. A couple people hesitated because they had food snobbery, I guess. They didn't like the idea of cafeteria style, but once they went there they saw how much it was worth it. Give it a shot and I think you won't regret it. read more

I love this place. This place is about 1 hour from downtown Philly and 1 and 1/2 hours from the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. They have restaurants and a bakery on the right hand side of the grocery store. And also kitchen supples, clothing, cosmetics are on the right hand side of the building. read more

My favorite oriental supermarket bar none. Most oriental market are small and not clean (sorry guys, not to offend anyone here). But forget it, this supermarket meets all the 'supermarket' categories standard. And don't forget, it is dedicated to the Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, etc. market. Hard to find and unique items are on displays and on sales regularly. Moreover, the food court and nothing but delighted... The 'Sushi Express' is small but not to up to par with all the sushi bars out there. A tray to go sushi and sashimi for 4-5 people is $45. What's a bargain! The pastry shop is out of this world. A 5-6 " mocha, chocolate mousse cake is $23... Awesome! I love this place... read more

Forced to come here when I can't go to Hmart. Their delivery comes on Wednesdays, so that's when most things are restocked and fresh. Do not get meat here. 5 times have I gotten bad meat from this place, well before the date! Also, their sale items must be checked for expiration dates. Often, they have already expired or soon will be. A couple of times though, I got some things on sale because they mistakenly thought it was on sale because they mixed up the "packaged on" date and a "sell by" date. Try not to buy Assi brand products. Once got some bad seaweed laver. Oddly tasting oil? I've also seen items stocked on dry shelves, even though the packaging specifically states "keep refrigerated." Bad customer service! They always accuse you of doing something wrong and that's why the food was bad. read more

This place has all the the Asian food that an Asian family needs to survive in this neck of the woods. It's not uncommon for an entire Chinese family to pile in the family van (always either a Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey) and make the drive to the Assi Plaza to stock up for the entire month. And then the car is low-riding the entire way back because of all the cargo. And First Son has to pile the dog food-sized bags of rice on his lap for the entire hour-long drive back to Allentown... while enduring the grandparents asking if he was accepted to Princeton or Yale yet... and he's only twelve years old. The food is definitely more geared towards the Korean side of Asian cuisines but there's definitely a lot of crossover to Chinese and Japanese cooking. Large international food supermarket with a variety of products. They carry food from all over the world, and the items are organized by country. It can be difficult to figure out where to search and the store is large. I wish the food court had better quality food so I could actually eat there then shop. Plenty of parking. read more

Great fresh fish. They have whole live lobsters for $6.99/lb! and up to 12LB lobsters! They have a HUGE selection of soo many different kinds of fish. There salmon is my favorite, its fresh and CHEAP. They even have LIVE flounder and blackfish. Also, their produce is very fresh and offers a huge selection. Gotta come here when cooking a FISH or Asian dinner. and there food court is pretty good, not crazy great. read more

Going to Assi is a must for us. Sometimes we'll end up there more than we do at the regular supermarkets. Well, why not?! They've got fresh fruits and vegetables at great prices, marinated and unmarinated meats, prepared soups and foods and they've even got a food court for a quick meal. The store is more geared towards Korean foods but they do have various Japanese and Chinese items too. Now if only they could carry some Filipino items, it would be perfect for me. Assi is one of my favorite places to shop! I love the great produce prices, fun food court, and all the Asian items I could ever want. My only complaint is the fresh seafood...in the past month I have twice gotten fish that was not edible. Last week I bought 2 trouts which the fish guys cleaned and filleted for me. When I got home and wanted to make dinner I got the trout out of the fridge and was IMMEDIATELY hit with a nasty, rotting fish odor! I don't think I'll be buying fish at Assi any longer but that won't stop me from a weekly trip to stock up on fruits and veggies. read more

Love asian markets! This particular one has a nice international mixture of products, focusing primarily on asian, then secondly spanish-based foods. I enjoyed the variety offered throughout the store including the food court. Our group spent ~$150 on a variety of foods from the market, including some snacks I have not had for a while. read more

I love the Assi market w/ all my heart except for the non asian staff. I dont know what language the shelf stockers speak but don't even bother asking them to find anything. It is better to just amble around on your own in silence and figure out wtf to buy for ones self. Only 4 stars cause they didn't have hello boss in stock. Assi sells rotten vegetable. I brought a bag of soybean sprout this afternoon, and it was rotten. Give it a second thought next time you go there. Plus, checkout could be slow as their cashers varies significantly in terms of skills. read more

I have been a loyal customer at Assi for the past 6 years going there almost every weekend, spending about $100 per trip. I have probably spent over $5000 in groceries at that store throughout these years but I will be spending much less from this point onward. Let's just say that their customer service is CHEAP. Today I called to complain that I never received my jar of Chili oil that was $5.79 when I was unloading groceries at home, even though they charged my credit card for it. The manager said she needs to look at the video feed then get back to me. 10 mins later she called me back to say that the video shows that the cashier put it in my cart so I must've lost it in the parking lot. I said, well can I just get another one? Thinking come on, it is a $5 item. But she said no, she cannot help me. Okay, fine. If you are willing to lose a loyal customer for a $5 item, that is fine by me. I have been a long time customer who spend $100 every week at your place and I will try to lie and cheat you out of $5? I guess I'm not surprised since Asian people are cheap. (I'm Chinese) the only reason this place gets 2 stars is because the selection is diverse and mostly okay.
