When they moved into an assisted living facility, I thought I would be able to help them from a far. Not so, I learned that two elderly ladies do not really want to talk about their personal needs to a man. I was stuck, too far away to really know if they were getting what they needed. Unforeseen circumstances required I get help. I did not know there was something like Aging Advisors even through I had been researching online about what help there might be. After getting a referral, I finally called them; it was looking like I was really needing some help. I had a long phone conversation with Soni and decided right away that Aging Advisors needed to be on our team. When my stepsister was unexpectedly hospitalized Ruth became the primary contact for me. As a nurse, she was able to translate some of the information I was getting from the hospital and then at rehab she went out and bought my stepsister a proper pair of shoes to help with her physical therapy. I needed to provide a new mattress and bedding for my stepsister for when she returned from rehab. Soni gave me advice and recommendations on what she thought would work which I ordered and had delivered. It was perfect. I looked forward to Ruth's wellness visit updates on their physical and mental wellbeing. Since they would not share any personal information with me the updates were especially important. My stepsister again went to the hospital for what we thought was just a routine checkup, but it was not. Things went south in a hurry and the doctors told me the situation was grim. I asked if they would let her mother make a last visit, it was the height of the Covid-19 issues, and they said yes. I called Ruth, late at night, and asked for her help. Without question, Ruth got to work. She called the facility to have them get my stepmother ready to go out. After picking her up she drove her to the hospital and stayed with her while she said goodbye to her daughter. Back at the facility Ruth called from the car and we both spoke to my stepmother about what to expect. Her daughter died several hours after that and then she died about a month later. Thank you, Ruth, and Soni, your help over the couple of years that you worked with my family is very much appreciated. The help and confidence you gave me, being so far away, was immeasurable.

I'm a customer that submitted this business for review on yelp, and did so with the intention of giving it a great review. Like many people of our generation, our parents are living much longer. Not too long ago, people didn't live as long as they do today, so our generation is encountering something, which for the most part, is unique; dealing with the stress of managing older parents, and in my case, dealing with my mother. My situation is that my family isn't rich, and we're not poor. My mother worked for most of her life, and when she got older, it was her wish to, when the time comes, to die in her own home. There are services that are provided by NYC and New York state, but to get them, the application process is, for lack of a better word, a nightmare. The biggest issue is that one agency doesn't know what the other agency is doing, for example, they have different computer systems, and the bureaucracy is beyond belief. If I had to pay for all those services out of pocket, the cost would have depleted all her life's savings, and in the end, she would have ended up in a nursing home. With in home care, the costs to the state are significantly reduced, as is the out of pocket expense for the families. To go through the bureaucracy for someone not familiar with the system is a full time job (and it never ends.. there is always some form to fill out). When we contacted "Elder Care Advocacy", Rosemarie streamlined the process for us, guided us through the process, filled out forms and each year I contract their services as there is always some new form that needs filling out, and each year, there is a re-certification process required by New York city. The professionalism of the group that works for Elder Care Advocacy is top-notch, and I highly recommend that anyone who has parents that are getting up there in years, to contact their office and start making plans. I cannot say enough good things about this business, and my family and I would be totally lost without their services.
