I called two places & after explaining my situation, the first guy said the usual stuff; "I'm slammed," "This is short notice," "I close at 5pm," finally, "if I can get to you today, it'll be at least $12." I hung up the phone quite appalled at the first guys attitude & thought I'll call the Shrewsbury Cobbler Shop, the 2nd online option from my search. No answer. Ugh!! At any rate, the online info stated he closed at 3pm & I thought "if I leave now, I can make it by there to see if they can help." Man, am I ever glad I did. I walked into the shop at 2:50pm & was immediately greeted by a polite & pleasant young man. I explained to him my dilemma, showed him my belt & his response was "let me see what I can do." He returned 3-4 minutes later & had the belt buckle reattached & the leather belt resewed around it. PERFECT!! The incredible things was when I asked how much do I owe you, he said "Oh, nothing!! It wasn't only a little thread." I was floored & so appreciate. For the locals that may know this shop, I didn't get the young man's name, but I did find out he was Joe's grandson. While he was working, I read the newspaper articles about the shop on the wall. Hopefully, this shop stays busy. In my opinion, they are the epitome of great entrepreneurs...great service, they know their craft & they are kind & take care of their customers by putting them first. I trusted them with an expensive pair of shoes and unfortunately regret that decision. First, communication was basically nonexistent. I dropped the shoes off and didn't hear anything for a week. They don't answer the phone and don't respond to messages, so if you actually want to speak with someone, you have to physically go there. Even then, the posted hours don't seem to mean much because there have been multiple times when no one was there. When I finally spoke with the owner, I was assured that the sole had been properly repaired. I wore the shoes for the first time after the repair, and the glue literally came undone. For a supposedly professional repair on a high-end pair of shoes, this is completely unacceptable. I brought the shoes back and asked for my money back because the repair was clearly not done properly. They refused to issue a refund. I'm extremely disappointed--not only because my shoes were ruined, but because of the lack of communication and the way the situation was handled afterward. I would strongly recommend taking your expensive or high-end shoes somewhere else. Based on my experience, I have absolutely no confidence in the quality of their work or their customer service. I honestly don't understand how a business can operate this way.

Instead of giving me a price, the person working at the counter asked where the left sandal was. The left sandal still had the rubber heel on, so I didn't initially take it out of my bag but did so when he asked about it. I showed it to him, and he proceeded to take the sandal and tug at the rubber heel. I told him not to do that, but he ignored me and proceeded to rip off the rubber heel on the left sandal. This was quite upsetting and shocking that he would deliberately damage the heel. After repeatedly questioning him why he purposely broke the heel of the left shoe, he claimed that it was old and was going to break off anyway. That may or may not happen, but it's not for him to decide by deliberately ripping off the rubber that was still attached to the heel. Especially since I did not agree to any repairs since he didn't provide a price. Was that his way of drumming up business for repairing both sandals? I told him he needed to fix the left sandal heel which he broke. He kept saying that the rubber heel was going to break anyway and if he tried to nail it back, the rubber would fall apart. Based on his combative attitude and unprofessionalism, I was certain that he would make sure the rubber would break apart if he touched it any further. I asked him his name but he refused to give it, whereupon I left the store. Never have I experienced a repair shop of any kind where my item upon leaving is worse than upon entering, due to the fault of the repair person. No accountability for his action. That is not the way to run a reputable business.

I had soles and heels replaced on one pair of Johnston & Murphy and heels only on another. The new…read moresoles had large gouges in several places and the repairman said it ws the fault of an old machine and wouldn't replace the faulty work. the new heels were so soft sand, pebbles and cinder became embedded in them and needed to be picked out with a screw driver; it seemed the new rubber was only a kind of putty. I showed this to the repairman who said he'd never seen such a thing in all his days. So I asked him to replace the heels with something that worked as i'd never experienced this. the repairman promptly blamed me for walking "too hard" or "in the wrong places". I would never trust them with my shoes or money again.
