Wow, how different things are in the Infusion Room here. All new faces with a lack of that personal care and compassion. The staff that used to work in the Infusion Room here were so much more than caring, compassionate professionals, they also were friendly and uplifting to their patients and family members. It's tough enough to need and have to go through these type treatments without those administering the treatment to be Cold and without care. Compassion, grace and tack are a part of the healing process, ladies get your heads in the game of healthcare or find a new profession where curt attitudes and rudeness to those you serve won't make any difference. We will be looking for a new place for IVIG Treatments, we need our caregivers giving treatment with compassion and we believe if you're not treated well, you may not be getting well. read more

The allergy shot room really needs an overhaul. The nurses are kind but I can hear them talking sh*t the whole time about their coworkers, lives, and other patients. The hours are unrealistic for anyone with a job. How are you supposed to get shots and wait 30 minutes between 7:30-4:30 Monday- Thurs with shorter hours on Friday? Not have a job for FIVE YEARS. They will randomly close the shot room without notifying patients. The only reason I keep going is because they help. I'm sorry but the doctors need to work different (or longer) hours. Honestly, if Vanderbilt really cared about patients as human beings they would have the shot room open on weekends or after work hours. read more

I'd been sick roughly three months out of the year and had ruled out allergies as one of the times was when pollen was next to nothing (winter/Christmas I'd be sick for a month,) although two of the other times was during allergy season. I went in last year finally after being unable to breathe regularly or sleep for weeks. I was on every drug I could think of to stop the snot, but nothing was working. I had also been coughing for three weeks at this point any it hurt the breathe. I got in two days after I called. That was the first available. I was told to stop allergy meds if I could but to get in. Met with a doctor there, did an asthma test, lung capacity, allergy series, all within about two hours. Allergy series showed why I was getting sick at non-sick times (got a cat, he's an indoor/outdoor cat, comes in around Christmas, when he didn't I was at the inlaws, they got a cat, yadda yadda yadda) dust mites, and a couple of weeds. Actually there's a little more to this - the test due to having been on antihistamines two days prior was not quite conclusive on cat, but it was close enough for me to know. Second test confirmed it. I've been allergic to my part time cat but not in the summer as he's on the porch or properly airing out his kitty allergens outside. No, summer allergies are for cockleburr and English Plantain. Winter are cat and dust mite. After visit one I was armed with a nasal cleaner, the knowledge of what I generally was allergic to, some stuff to help clear me up, and a plan (clean drapes, get dust mite covers, vacuum the walls.) I got better. Fast. I went to the inlaws and downed antihistamines like my life depended on it and was able to operate/didn't look like a zombie. Allergy test number two was taken a number of months later, we'd done the testing at the first just because I was so sick, it confirmed that my "almost cat allergy" was definitely a cat allergy. They mixed up a big batch of cat, english plantain, cocklebur, dust mite, and a couple of other things and I started allergy shots. Three times a week at this point, but that goes down a bit later. Allergy shot lab I usually walk into, check in with a swipe card, and within two minutes I'm back and getting a shot. Head back to the waiting room and wait for 30 minutes to make sure I don't die, then on my way. While I'm currently unable to metric how effective the shots are (I'm at week 3 or 4 now,) what I can attest to is how this has for once given me a doctor's note to say "look inlaws, I don't hate you, my nose hates your cats and has for the past 8 years. Here's a doctor's note, I'll be sleeping in a tent in the backyard" What's really odd is I've had allergies since I was a kid. Pediatricians diagnosed me with bronchitis, sinus infections, gave me antibiotics and kept sending me on my way. Doctor as an adult never said "hey, you're always sick at about the same time every year? Why not get an allergy test?" I've had relatives convinced I was faking being sick as it was like clockwork (not my fault they gather when cats want in the house). I've probably been sick six years of my life at this point from allergies. Nobody ever suggested I go get allergy tested. Like, these are things I would expect a PCP to suggest. Sick on a schedule? Go to an allergist. Got sleeping problems? Go to a sleep study or get one of those apps to see if you're not breathing. Not breathing? Allergest. Eh, it's been a wonder, if just for the page of test results. I'm not sure if things have changed or my experience is different, but I've always felt like I was the priority. I love my doctor Christy Sparkman. She's great, honest, and really listens to what you say. That can be hard to find in a doctor! Vandy's ASAP program is great if you need specialized asthma/allergy care. When you're a new patient you have to make a 4 hour appointment. Yup, that's right take a half day off work and go to the doctor, 4 hours. It's because they re-test you for all your allergies and put you through the ringer with your breathing too. Guess it's good to have your latest test results? The only downside of their program is that you usually have to wait quite a while when you go in for your appointment. Not sure why, but that just seems to be the way it is. read more

I have been struggling with allergies for years. I finally got a recommendation from my Dr. to go to an allergist of my choice. My husband saw an article in the Tennessean about Vanderbilt's A.S.A.P. clinic. I called them and was able to get in within a few weeks of my initial call. The appt took 4 hours exactly like they said on the phone. I was so impressed with everything there and the way I was treated was amazing. I didn't feel like I was a number. I had to have an initial check up, pulmonary testing, skin testing, and a CT Scan...after I completed all tests I met with their allergy educator which gave me some very helpful tips. I struggle with severe allergies and I didn't realize how bad they were until I met with their team of physicians. I loved everyone I came in contact with...they all made you feel extremely comfortable and welcomed. They were able to change my allergy medicine based on their findings and within two days I felt like a normal person again...it changed my life for the better! I highly suggest going here if you have any issues with allergies and asthma! You will be glad you did! read more

I was diagnosed over 4 years ago with allergies. I went to Vanderbilt's ASAP program because I heard it was ranked among the top 15 in the country. However, this place is a nightmare. On your first appt. they will let you see a doctor. On subsequent appts. it is nearly impossible to see a doctor, and they push you toward a nurse practitioner. To make matters worse, if you do not like the doctor they have selected for you, then you are just out of luck because they will not let you see another doctor within the practice. On top of all of that, I cannot tell you how many times I have waited, and been lost among other patients, for 3+ hours. Trust me, you can find better quality allergists in Nashville other than Vanderbilt. I would not suggest this place to anyone! It is a money hole and nothing more. read more

Worst ever. I have asthma and a serious upper repertory cough and sinus infection. I met with a PA a week ago, never even saw a physician. I was given steroids and OTC meds. It's been a week, I've made three phone calls and never got a call back. I'm still very sick and will have to find another Dr. Disgraceful. Avoid at all costs. read more

They are a bureaucratic nightmare - and the nurse who gives the shots is RUDE. I showed up yesterday only to be told that my vials had expired. I asked why noone informed me of that, and the nurse said "that's the responsibility of the patient." You want customer service? Go elsewhere. I was referred to Vanderbilt allergy center after a series of unexplained anaphylaxic reactions. I went into the center 2 weeks after refer which is really early in a place like this. They figured out a bunch of triggers and a main allergy the first day I was there. I have a rare food allergy that was adult onset. I am still having some trouble but I can't be skin tested because of all the antihistamine I have to take to keep from having reactions. Needless to say I have only had one episode that I have had to go to the ER since which is a real step for me. I have had a doctor everytime I have gone in and her and Farenholtz are a great team and very thorough. Drawbacks for me is distance but they can't help that and that I am still not completely controlled but we are working on it there are too many hidden things in our food I inadvertently get into. read more

Its unbelievable how rude, unaccommodating and uncompassionate the people are in this office. My wife has chronic fungal sinusitis and has been receiving treatment there for 15 years. For the most part, aside from her doctor and one nurse, they have treated her like dirt the entire time. They used to be known as amongst the best in the country on the sinus side, but the one leading doctor retired last year in 2016. The people in the shot room are perhaps the most arrogant and ignorant people I have ever experienced in my life. The worst of the worst. Regardless of their training they should absolutely never be allowed anywhere near a patient. They embody all that is wrong with healthcare in this country. Rude, stupid, condescending, arrogant jerks. I would recommend going anywhere but Vanderbilt ASAP for allergy treatment. The sinus side is competent but scheduling is a nightmare. The talent is gone for the most part there as well. read more

In the past my son has received good care at the clinic. But today I have been trying since 7:30 am to get him a refill inhaler because he is having trouble breathing. The office has treated this as a non-urgent issue. First they told me it would be at the pharmacy and now have no record of the conversation and won't give him one because he has not been in for an appt in a while. I am taking time off work and my son is waiting at school for me to get one to him. I was told the receptionist would get a message to the nurses at some point today. No sense of urgency whatsoever! I am finding another way so my son does not have to go to the ER but if he does, this clinic is partly responsible. They need to get a plan for triage and also need to train their staff appropriately. They just lost a patient and I will recommend friends go elsewhere if their child's health is to be treated as important. read more
