We had a beautiful condo in the 200 block that was very clean, very comfortable and very quiet. Our view faced the tennis courts and the water. Kitchen was well stocked with anything you might possibly need to make any kind of meal. The grounds are maintained and the walk to the beach is short and easy. Parking is a breeze, parked right outside our condo. As a frequent visitor of the islands this has been my favorite stay by far. No maid service but it's fine because anything you need is right there in the condo. Washer, dryer, dishwasher, even extra sheets and blankets. Well done Aston. Totally recommend. read more

The Good The Bad and The Ugly. Good: friendly staff, good location, MOST of the rental was clean, all necessary kitchen appliances and a washer and dryer. Bad: Burned out bulbs, tall steps to enter first floor with no handicapped access (unit 411-ground level), no instructions for portable air conditioning unit, incorrect and incomplete instructions for TV, cable, & DVD use. Ugly: Please look at these bathroom photos. Does this look like anyone has cleaned some areas in the past year? This is just BAD. Conclusion: You will not have the vacation of your dreams here. If you can stomach the bathroom flaws you can probably have an acceptable experience staying here. For starters, not gaslighting me that I booked a room with a queen bed and a crappy sofa bed for NINE days of vacatuin with my college-age son, with an entrance off the parking lot. I booked and paid.for a room with 2 queen beds like i always do. The air conditioner wasn't working well either. But take a look at it so no wonder. The front desk folks were pretty unkind about these things.. The beach out front is nice and Coconut Grove Marketplace nearby is convenient for meals,.decent coffee and the weekly Farmers Market. But it's very expensive. Staying at Kauai Shores next time - everyone was pleased.with their tooms there and the yummy restaurant, Lava Lava. My mom booked this place when she attended Kauai Marathon back in 2017. If you are looking for a hotel with full kitchen at a reasonable price, this place is a good option. It is cheaper and more spacious than regular hotels. The buildings are very old. We heard a lot of squeeking from upstairs and our bedroom was right by the outside stairs so you can hear everything everytime someone comes back or out, and kept waking me up. They have a pool you can use...was a bit of walk from our building. If you are staying for a long term, this place is good. However the resort fee is a BS I think. All they had a little pool. If you have a choice, pick upstairs...less noise. read more

I loved staying at the Aston at Poipu Kai! I was here for a week and a half, and I couldn't be happier with my experience here. My flight landed super late, and the check in office was already closed when I arrived. However, there is an phone outside the office, where you call and they give you the lock box code to get your keys. My condo had a full kitchen (which I took full advantage of) as well as a washer and dryer. I didn't have central AC, but it wasn't a problem for me because the fans and the island breeze always kept it cool enough for me. There was a small AC unit in the bedroom, but I honestly never turned it on. This isn't a hotel, so there is no daily cleaning service. However, about 5 days in someone came in to replace my towels with fresh ones! Bonus: it's 5 min walk away from Poipu beach park. If you can, try to go during sunset at least once. I booked the Aston Poipu Kai through Costco Travel. I should have done more research. I thought it was a hotel. The website seemed to show me the same thing. I could have done without the ridiculous cleaning fees. This could be worked into the nightly rate. Fortunately, our condo was actually very nice. Everything was very clean. Updated kitchen and bathrooms. They had all the needed kitchen equipment to each lunch/dinner at the condo. A must when in Hawaii! We got a view of the ocean if you are standing in the living room. I was not expecting that so that was nice too. One thing I loved about the Aston Poipu Kai was the location! It is very close to everything on the south shore. A great area. Although, we did not realize we could walk to the beach until three days into the vacation. This would have been nice to know earlier! The lady at the front desk gave me a map of the site, recommendations for places to eat, and even DVD rentals. I would stay here again as long as I had an updated unit. read more

I read about how some of these rooms are outdated and how some have been remodeled. We ended up with a room that had not been updated in 20 years, room 511. For the price I was still satified because I wanted 2 bedrooms and two bathrooms. Not having AC was not an issue and I can't sleep if I'm hot, so I was concerned about that. We were in Condos near the tennis courts and had 2 pools nearby that were not busy and very clean. The grounds are perfect and well maintained. If you want to snorkle and boogie board the public beach on the west side is fantastic. There is even a sheltered area for little kids. The sand is free of rocks and there are restrooms and showers. We got snorkle gear from Boss Frogs and were amazed at all the colorful fish. To get a newer room the staff told me to call right after the reservation is made and ask to have a renovated room reserved for you. DO THIS! I will post the map showing all the condos. The ones closer to the Ocean on the Poipu Beach side are REALLY nice and I would guess more money. We liked this better than our stay in Maui near Black Rock! read more

It was the first time I ever stayed in one of these hotels, where it's not your typical hotel room in a building or tower. I knew before hand when I booked on hotels.com, so I was pleasantly surprised when I got to the hotel check-in, and the lady at the desk said that I got a house to stay the night. AWESOME! It was a 3 bedroom, 2 bath. Unfortunately, I was staying just 1 night. The check in and out process was speedy and the hotel staff was friendly. It's a great place to stay though. Poipu is so lovely and minutes drive from Poipu beach. The accommodations are top notch, so you do get what you pay for and it is awesome. Spacious, economical, and luxurious at the same time. When you do Poipu, do Aston at Poipu Kai! I was here with a friend of mine, whom ran the 2011 Kauai Marathon, whereas I just ran the half marathon. The house itself was amazing. RENTAL UNIT: Myself, my husband and 2 friends stayed at the Aston Poipu Kai for 6 nights in September. When booking our reservation with Costco, all stock photos were of lovely, updated units. We also cross referenced the Aston website and noticed that their photos are of updated rooms. We did, however read a number of reviews that warned us of the varying condition/style of rooms, so over a month before our check-in we called Aston to request an updated room. The gentleman we spoke with on the phone was very nice and professional, and left us with the impression that our request would not be an issue. Unfortunately [after a crazy day of flight delays on our way to Kauai] we checked in to a super outdated room. Sticky, old furniture and decor that looked like my grandma's 1980 beach condo. We were NOT pleased - especially after having been told that we would receive a remodeled unit.The bedding was all old quilts, and there were personal family photos & decor around the unit - which is not something we could have expected - Costco & Aston disclose that units are independently decorated, but we did not know that there would be family memorabilia, and gaudy decor all over the place - kinda thought Aston would monitor that sort of thing, so renters would feel comfortable. We felt that this property was marketed more as a rental condo/hotel-ish environment, not a timeshare where we're staying in someone's home... The night we checked in, we were all really disappointed so I called the front office. I spoke with a nice representative who apologized (not her fault, but I appreciated her empathy for our disappointment). Because it was after normal office hours, she said there was nothing that could be done that night, and that we would need to come to the office in the morning and speak with another team member about switching rooms. I was content with that offer, but it was frustrating to have to move all our things into this second story unit (couldn't leave our baggage in the car, for fear of break in). The next morning, I went in and another nice, professional representative offered us keys to two separate units and allowed us to look at both and decide where we'd like to move (very nice of her). Both were upgrades that would be comped as an "apology", which we appreciated. We ended up moving from an outdated 2bd/2bath garden view unit to an updated 3bd/3bath partial ocean view unit.. Once we moved we felt much more comfortable - no family decor, no yucky granny furniture/linens. Overall, I would say if you're considering renting at Aston Poipu Kai, be very aware that the photos online are not an indication of the type of room you're getting... could be old, could be new... I guess that's just the gamble you take. Unfortunate. However, their staff was very kind, professional and accommodating, and we did appreciate that very much. RESORT FEE: If our trip had ended there, we would have ended on a positive note. Unfortunately, I was left feeling confused by their resort fee. We knew we had to pay the $20/day resort fee, but we were under the impression that the fee would be collected in exchange for certain services (parking, movies, coffee/tea, linens/sheet changes, pool usage) but that was largely not the case. Because of that, we feel that we paid quite a bit of money for very little of what was promised. -First of all, I don't think I should be paying for parking when we're staying at a condo that has a plethora of parking options... that's ridiculous, and just feels like a scheme for Aston to collect more money on top of our reservation. -Second, we received no in-unit service whatsoever. No "daily tea/coffee" as advertised on our Costco booking, no new towels, no sheets changes... a gentleman came by on our first morning (right when we moved in) asking if we would like new sheets, and we obviously said no, because they hadn't been slept in. I assumed he would return another day to bring new towels/refill coffee/tea, but no one entered our unit for the next 5 days. Honestly, I normally wouldn't care too much, but 6 days is a long time to be using the same towels when we were each showering twice a day, and nothing dries because of the humidity... And when I'm paying $20/day, the least they could do is bring 4 new towels and some coffee... -This was disclosed on the website, but the pool located next to our unit was closed, so we had to drive to a neighboring collection of units to use the pool/hot tub (Hot tub was SCALDING hot, we never saw a single person in it). Just another little inconvenienced that added to my frustration about paying $20/day... Overall, I wish we could get a refund for this fee... we didn't have the use of a convenient pool, we received no in-unit service, and I think its ridiculous that we were being charged for parking... The whole fee just felt like a scheme to collect a bunch of money on top of our already significant rental fees. Not cool. read more

IT WAS MY OWN PERSONAL HOME AWAY FROM HOME! I spent a week at this place and had a really great time. For the amount of money we paid, it was a perfect spot for my family and I. Granted we were told ahead of time, that as soon as we landed in Kauai, we needed to make sure to stop by Costco to stock up and then we headed to the Aston at Poipu Kai! I called the main office and the woman on the other end was so helpful with directions and got us right there! When we pulled up, we checked in (which was a quick process!) We headed to our house and started the unloading process!! The house was BEAUTIFUL!! It was a 3 bedroom home with a HUGE kitchen, living room, and dining room which was great for us. Unfortunately, there isn't air conditioning BUT you are in Hawaii! No need for air conditioning, cause there are HUGE windows in the house and once you open them all up the breeze keeps the house cool and at a perfect temperature. Now when it comes to housekeeping, don't expect for maids to come in and totally clean up your home or even make the beds, but you do get fresh towels every day and they take out your trash, which was most important to me! Overall, I feel like its a great place to stay when you are on Kauai! You don't have to worry about annoying our loud neighbors like you do in a hotel, and you can definitely relax in Paradise! read more

This is a buyer beware, Aston does not show the actual room you will be staying in just examples, so renting from them is a mystery you will not fully understand until your room is assigned. This unit we are in as I write is in the 400 building, 2 BR ground floor. It is well kept and has all the items expected. Bedrooms look out to the Parking lot/street which is very busy, noisy, like being next to a freeway, the air conditioner will over-ride the traffic noise if you do not mind that noise. The unit is a very small washer and dryer, this would work for 2 and maybe some small children, however we rented the space for 5 adults and you basically need to wash every day as washer will only hold about 2 of the bath or pool towels with maybe a few small items. This was a big disappointment, we have rented other properties in Poipu and never paid so much for so little in return, no view. We will never book here again and we will never use booking.com to find a rental property, no option to review on that site. Staff is courteous and helpful. read more

Aston at Poipu Kai is a complex of several different privately owned condominiums. Because of this, the style and quality of the condos can vary (though there's clearly a standard). If you're looking for first class resort quality atmosphere, make sure you're in one of the newest remodels or go to the Grand Hyatt down the street. If you're looking for a place to stay with your family, to sprawl out and make home for a week, this is your best bet. I have to comment on everyone complaining about the lack of A/C -- this has never been a problem for me, and I like to sleep in the cold. Keep the windows open and the fans going. The Hawaiian islands are treated to the Trade Winds which keep the area from getting sweltering despite the tropical location. The condos are designed to let the breeze in, with lots of windows and slatted doors. There's screens on all the windows so you don't have to worry about bugs. I really don't understand how it's an issue. The main selling points here are the room style and location. I can't imagine spending more than a few days in a hotel; I don't travel that way if I can help it. I love being able to have space to spread out, to cook my own meals, to come back from a day out and not have to walk through a hotel lobby. You don't get some of the amenities of a hotel, but I gladly trade a hotel breakfast for my own coffee maker and an in-suite washer and dryer. In terms of location, Poipu is just great. Very close access to the beach, with both snorkeling and boogie boarding/body surfing. (A short walk from some condos, a slightly longer walk from others.) Good restaurants a short drive away. Koloa is ten minutes away and has a farmers market as well as some nice shops. You're roughly an hour from Waimea and roughly an hour from the north shore. If you want to hit all points on the island, Poipu is the best jumping off point, in my opinion. read more

We'd definitely go back! We weren't sure what to expect and up until the day before we didn't realize it was a condo. My husband & I got a great deal for the weekend. We didn't realize how big the condo was, especially for just the two of us for the weekend. In the long run, we saved a lot of money. We brought our own breakfast, coffee and snacks and when we landed we picked up water, milk, and any other liquids at the store. So we did get to use the kitchen which saved us on going out to eat. We really liked the location and amenities. Wish we could have stayed longer. read more

Close to beach and everything u could need great staff, very clean grounds

When we first walked into the condo, we were shocked at how spacious the area was but once you settle in, the problems with the room become clear. We bought a sampler packet from the Point at Poipu for a week at their resort but because of construction, they moved us here. The room that we stayed in is the only one with A/C (yay!) but they were in the process of painting the patios so we had all of the patio furniture (there are 3 patios total) in both bedrooms and the living room. When we called to see if we can get it moved out of the room they said we would have to wait until the paint dries outside. Seriously? We were on the first floor and both of the bedroom patios are directly off of the walking path yet the curtains for the room are sheer and you need to pull the curtains taught to try and stretch out the fabric to fit the entire frame. Another issue was that the painters were just painting away when I walked in the room and nearly fell back into the wall out of shock. I would think that any renovations that take place occur when the rooms are unoccupied. The next morning, we woke up to construction on the wall or roof (all we heard was long and persistent hammering and drilling) at 7am. Brilliant! Back to the first night, we took a shower in the absolutely decadent master bathroom and quickly passed out on the super springy bed. The next day, we swapped rooms with my parents and while I was taking a shower in the second bathroom, I looked up at the shower head and found half of it completely rusted. The second night, we slept in the second bedroom that had two twin beds that they had offered to push together and place a plank to create a "whole" bed. It took them a day and a half to come and push the beds together but by that time we had found out that any movement you make on the bed ripples through the mattress like an earthquake so we decided to keep the beds separate. That night my husband and I barely slept. I rolled around on the mattress unable to get comfortable and ended up walking out to the couch at 4am and was able to get about an hour of sleep before everyone woke up. I have been in my fair share of hotels, motels, and hostels and these beds are the worst I have ever "slept" in. We were booked for an entire week but after two days, my husband and I bailed and crashed with my mom in her condo at a different resort. Never again. Minus four stars for beds, patio furniture, and the shower head and plus one star for free wifi and spacious rooms. read more

This resort is sorely lacking. First the website says they have a fitness room...wrong, second the unit was clean but there is definitely some deferred maintenance. This is the first non short term rental, or corporate managed resort that charges a cleaning fee and doesn't provide mid stay cleaning. So while it looks reasonable there are hidden fees. The staff is courteous and do try to be helpful, but this is definitely a resort that is counting every penny. read more

We stayed a week in condo 511 (2 bedroom & 2 full baths) at Aston at Poipu Kai. The condo was outdated with an old kitchen (early 1990s based on the chocolate brown sink). The carpeting was also worn. On the plus side, it was clean and housekeeping came by daily to change towels and remove garbage. The sheets were changed once during our stay. That's fine; my sheets at home don't get changed that often. I checked in after office hours. That process actually pretty easy. Then I had to go down to office the next day for my "welcome" and to be told I would be charged $18/day amenity fee. The total for the week was a bit less than $1600.00. The lack of air-conditioning freaked out my roomies. Housekeeping promptly brought extra fans and a blanket for me. I was happy with the ceiling fans and shutters built-in. Be sure to close the shutters at night. The many birds make quite a racket at the crack of dawn. As advertised, the condo was an easy walk to the beach and there was a large lawn area for my toddler granddaughter to run around in. Tennis courts, 2 pools and a gas grill were also nearby. read more

I could not have had a better stay last month at this condo resort. It is located perfectly next to the ocean, and conveniently to shopping, restaurants, and other resorts which have those things as well. My condo for the price was immaculate. It was a bit dated - but I had a full kitchen, 2 levels, and 2 bedrooms/bathrooms for the price of 2 nights at the local Hyatt. The grounds are kept up and the staff was AMAZING in helping me travel around Kauai. It was my first time, and honestly, we've already planned to come back in January and will be booking our stay with you. Thank you a million for the wonderful condo. 301 was amazing. read more

We stayed for a total of ten days, taking a second floor unit. The unit is fully furnished spacious and includes all amenities you could think of, including wifi, and dvd rental. We also had a shade umbrella which was a must down at the beach. The office is very responsive addressing your requests and makes a real effort to make your stay as pleasant as they can. Though maintenance (cleaning) can be a little slow to follow eventually they mostly came through. The resort is very green, blooming and has wide lawns of grass. A very natural continuum of the magnificent scenery around. We loved the location with respect to the island as it was a good starting point both for exploring the north and the Waimea Canyon. The unit does not have AC but is equipped with vents all around. There were some nights we wished we did have but overall the night do get nice and the warn weather we had was a little unusual. If you have kids you might consider requesting a base floor unit which will make it easy for the kids to explore and grounds while letting the adults keep an eye. Overall, we had a great stay the island has so much to offer and it's going to be hard for us to leave. Aloha read more

At government rate you get a room on Poi Pu Rd. The condo is great with a full kitchen, washer/dryer, dinning room, living room, lanai, and queen size bed. No AC but in March the temp mild with a nice breeze. Flat screen TV with a PS3 for DVD. Walking distance to shops, beach, and restaurants. Liuhe is 20 min and PMRF is 45 min. If checking in after 2000 call for instructions on how to get room keys. Grounds have pools and Webber grills. Maid service is provided. read more

I have traveled a great deal. This place is ok but be aware there is no air condition, which was really uncomfortable and hard to sleep. Mattresses were cheap and gave us all back aches. They only clean 1 x a week. About 30 min. form airport and an hour or so away from nice beaches. BEWARE, they kept charging my credit card to place holds for no real reason tying up my card by about $500. You have to pay additional taxes which vary on the time year. This condom was overpriced, overrated & misrepresented by both AAA & "Pleasant Holidays" who they go through. Unfortunately, I trusted our travel agent to know what she was talking about. She didn't. First & foremost, I asked if the place had air conditioning. She said yes it did, & I thought that was that, but N0 A/C! The temperature was at least in the mid-80's daily with the humidity the same or higher, since it rained at least once every day. Even the overhead fan in our room made extra noise. I also asked if we could get a quiet room on the top floor & she said she'd do that for us. We were put on the 2nd floor, & the elephants above us stomped around on & off all day & night long, & woke us up at 3:15 AM, 6:30 AM & 10:30 PM, which differed daily. To make things even worse than they were, there was a note on our door one day that they were going to spray pesticides in & on the place the next day, which we reported & put a stop to. Why wasn't this scheduled when no one was there? These 'unpleasant holidaze' will definitely leave a lasting impression on us. Staying here ruined our entire vacation & we'll never come back again. If you can't even trust your travel agent, you might as well just make the reservations yourself. Next time, we will! Price is Never any guarantee of quality anymore, especially at a place like this! Minor issues with our place included a closet-like bathroom door, extremely uncomfortable sofa bed, strange TV setup with components blocking view of the screen, lack of basic cooking supplies (oil, salt, etc.) and a sprinkler system directly outside the lanai that went off loudly awaking us in the middle of the night every day. The unit did feature a washer and dryer which came quite handy for getting beach towels dry and a large kitchen with dishwasher. There was no AC but we managed with the ceiling fans and didn't even make use of the portable units. Overall the unit was clean and just fine if you can get over the quirks. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful in getting "futons" to put on top of the sofa bed to pad it. The pool with an ocean view is lovely and we made use of the included DVD rental machine. There were also boogie boards, beach chairs and a beach umbrella in our unit which we quite enjoyed. It is perfect walking distance to Poipu Beach (great for snorkeling and for kids) and surrounded by excellent restaurants and shopping. This resort needs some assistance In the communications department , we had to leave our towels in the room upon check out, so we go to the pool to relax and enjoy the rest of our stay, only to be asked to leave by security, we have security out name and room number and security leaves only to come back and ask us to leave since we checked out !! Really not only did they verify that we were guests of the hotel we were told that we have already checked out and we must leave!!! Ruined our whole day!!! Security made us feel unwelcomed and we are very sad that our stay ended with such disappointment the room was wonderful the staff was friendly and helpful it's the security I could do with out!! They stated they are not governed by the Aston hotel and advised me to go ahead and complain!! How rude!! read more
