Truly abysmal service. It took multiple techs to figure out how to shape nails into a very common form (despite me using proper terminology and showing photos). They eventually succeeded, yay! But not before their trial and error approach left a pinky nail with a deep horizontal divot at the very root. Tech was further unable to recognize or voice the fact that the design she was asked to perform for a regular manicure was beyond her abilities; she just powered through the appointment and charged a hefty fee as if she had actually provided nail art beyond the scope of a toddler's ability. Had to repaint and refile my nails the second I got home. Being able to admit your limitations is one of the best things you can do for your customers; it saves everyone's time. I even mentioned at the start of the visit that I would've been happy to choose a simpler design, but I felt like no one was even listening or trying to speak with me so here we are. Others have commented on their cuticles being mangled here - I second this sentiment; I spend a lot of time caring for mine and after one visit to Astoria Nails, all of that work has been undone. Staff constantly speak and laugh amongst themselves in their native language. Multiple workers came over and stared at this train wreck of a session, making me extremely uncomfortable. The worst manicure of my life. Felt extremely rushed even though it was just me and my friend there. Tech wasn't listening when I repeatedly asked her to file my nails evenly after she cut them uneven. After 2 days my nailpolish is completely chipped & peeling off. Looks pretty inside but looks can be deceiving. The tech didn't even give me a message while my nails were drying nor did she help with bringing my jacket & bag to me. This has become my go to place for a couple reasons: 1-price 2-proximity to my place 3-friendliness of staff I get a pretty regular gel mani/reg pedi here for $40, which is a great deal to me. The attendants are very nice and I've always seen them disinfect their tools, use special care on your nails etc. It's a warm atmosphere, and if you want to talk to your technician or just keep to yourself, they're open to both! When they are busy, they tend to rush, and I hate that. I mean I understand trying to get everyone in, but I don't want my nails coming out half-done. I try to go at off-peak times, to make sure the time is taken out. I do wish they had more gel colors, but I guess that's my fault for going so often! read more

Great service for their mani pedis. They take their time with you without feeling rushed to attend the next customer. They're always cleaning and theyre very hygiene-conscious. Calming atmosphere, quiet area in a good neighborhood location. Staff is really nice. Free wifi. I get my nails done to look good - not to bleed or set myself up for a staph infection. So because they cut my toe nail too deep, leaving it to bleed, trying to figure out what to do and tried to rudely brush it off as "it's ok;" is reason enough for me to not set foot in there again. read more

This place has the worst customer service. I arrived at 7:30pm and asked for a fill in and and a pedicure. I waited about 20 minutes and they sat me in pedicure chair. One lady starts doing a very rushed and poor job pedicure that I had to tell her to clean underneath my nails, like that's not her job?!?! Then another comes and looks at my nails and is like we only have one machine and it's broken, so we can't get the gel off your nails to do your nails. They were ready to go and cleaning up shop by 8pm, but claim to close at 9pm. They obviously just didn't want to do my nails. They should have told me before they started my pedicure because I wouldn't have stayed. Not professional and customer service was terrible. Don't waste your money here! I came here for the first time about a month ago, and had the best pedicure of my life. I still talk about it to my friends! It was the 'peppermint spa' and was so relaxing; the technician did such a wonderful, thorough, job, and there's a 10min massage included. I suppose the third time was NOT the charm. I'm now even more annoyed with them, because the lack of attention or understanding when they're wrong is ridiculous. The same woman who did my mani/pedi last time, was the same to do it this time around. My pedicure she did a great job on, even scrubbing under my feet making it smooth (despite not wanting to do so last time). During my manicure my thumb nail was uneven,and she wanted to leave it like that until I had to pull my hand away from her, so that she will trim them instead of her continuous filing. Trimming aside, she went on to painting my nails, and failed miserably at that. Even becoming upset when I pointedly stated that there was no way I was leaving with my nailpolish the way it was. There was streaking, lumpy, and because the first coat wasn't applied evenly, the streaks from the first coat could be seen after the application of the second coat. One of the other girls came along and re-polished all ten fingers, and was done doing so in about 5mins. Results...perfectly even polish distribution. Though she was rough, because apparently they didn't appreciate me calling them out, I had to put her back in line. My final qualm is the woman who initially did my nails inability to speak or understand english. Each time I asked her a question, she had to call on one of the others to translate for her, or just smile, and completely not answer me. I'm all for everyone having a job, but maybe teaching your workers, or requiring they learn the english language will make for better communication. I wish I could give this place more than 2 stars, I really wish I could. When I entered the establishment, I felt a bit awkward. The place wasn't busy and there was only 2 employees, 2 customers being worked on, 1 waiting, and the manager. Oh yeah, some person that was randomly doing their own nails too. No one greeted me. I knew I should have left but I decided to give this place a try... and so I stayed. I came in for a mani and pedi. The prices were okay but they also had a 15% off promo going on. Anyway, once the owner asked me what services I needed, she told me to choose a color. Their color selection is pretty okay. They have the basics and even though there aren't a lot of colors (many of them were doubles or even of a kind), I still felt overwhelmed. The brands they have are O.P.I , Essie, and 2 other ones that I never heard of. For those of you who do Gel Manicures, their selection seemed a bit limited. If you are going to do a pedicure, AVOID the 1st pedicure seat that is right by the window. It makes a loud noise when hot water is used and the water doesn't do that fun "bubbling". I sat down and I was left there. With the water running. I wasn't told how long it would be until I was going to be seen by the nail tech and nor was I told to soak my feet. It was awkward once again. I was just left there. Waiting. I waited for 15 mins, by choice. Actually, I asked the lady (who seemed to be the owner) "how long am I going to wait for?" and she told me "5 minutes". Boy was her perception of time wrong. Why didn't I get up and leave at this point? I was tired. It was hot outside and I didn't want to trek to 30th Avenue. Once one of the nail techs was done, she came to service me. Things didn't turn for the better. It got worse. It got bad to the point where I actually texted a friend "is it bad if got and left?" What happened? Here goes. Please keep in mind, throughout this whole time I was nice and I held my tongue back. I tried to keep an open mind and remind myself *this isn't a nail salon on ditmars or 30th avenue*. The nail tech asked me to put my feet inside the water. The water was cold. I know its hot outside but I like my pedicure water to be warm/hot because it is relaxing. She filled the foot bath with hot water, then the chair started making bad sounds... she stopped filling the foot bath and the water was warm/cold. Whatever. I got over it. I still stayed after all, right? Anyways, she starts to file my toenails... she files the first two toes and decides to skip the other 3 toenails. I get it. I have small toenails but the other toes need some love too! I didnt say anything. Next foot, same thing. I got over that too... until I noticed how she didnt bother to file even the big toe. I pointed it out to the nail tech. She somewhat fixed it. Time for cuticles! She oiled them cuticles right up and pushed them back. This time she pushed back 3 cuticles on one foot and 4 on the other. Wtf?!?!? Sorry. I got mad. Whens he started cutting the cuticles, she was half assing it. I pointed it out to her and she said "ill go back to it later". Um. NO. I wanted her to do it right then and there! She didn't. I was looking around for the owner/manager. Guess what? The owner/manager left. No where to be found. Not even in the rooms that were open. Great. I have a nail tech thats doing a half assed job and an owner/manager missing. At this point im thinking "I knew I should have left". If you are like me and you LOVE the massage during a pedicure, look somewhere else. The foot massage was short and not worth it. As a matter of fact, I told the lady "its fine. You dont need to do the other foot". I wanted to get out of that seat. The nail tech lady goes back to correct the cuticles and holy hell was she pulling and hurting! At some point, my toe bled a bit. Once again. Whatever, I didn't make it an issue because I doubt I would come back again. Once out of the chair, I thought another person would do my manicure. Sadly, I was wrong. Same lady. Same tools. Same crappy job. She actually made my cuticles on my fingers too, to the point where I yelped a bit. Fast forward to nail coloring time and an hour later, the manager/owner finally shows up! The same nail tech lady put the wrong nail color on the wrong nail and she tried to paint over it. I kept telling her "no, remove the bottom color and add the right color on my nail"... thats when I had it and I decided to let a bit of steam. Manis and Pedis are supposed to be enjoyable and relaxing. Unfortunately, I didn't get that from this experience. If I have to come back here again, I am requesting another person to do my nails. Hopefully that wont be the case. Maybe I might even give it a second try. The place itself is nice and the decor is nice as well... just with the employees were more experienced, welcoming, and nice. I've been here twice now but this second time really put me off for two reasons. I came in with two friends both which wanted full sets and I just wanted a soak off and a manicure. It wasn't horribly crowded so we assumed we'd be out in 2 hours tops. They started off with my friend and I because there were only 2 chairs available. At some point a third chair because available and my first friends nails were almost done so we assumed based on order of arrival my other friend would've been next in line to get her nails done. I was wrong because as soon as another woman came in, she was attended to first. I still believe that it was racially motivated. At that point we just wanted to leave. Unfortunately for me, they left me for 3 WHOLE HOURS soaking. No one would come over to remove my nails. After waiting all that I ended up getting a pretty terrible manicure. I'm not sure where this place gets off charging as much as they do. I paid $40 for a gel pedicure. The woman tried to pluck my toe hairs with a cuticle cutter without asking me first. They only accept tip in cash. Their acrylic set was a waste and didn't last very long. Seema did an excellent job on my pedicure and then I had an above average eyebrow threading from Susan. I received a complimentary shoulder massage while my nails were drying - much longer/better than the usual neck rub at a salon. This was my second time at this nail salon. The first time was merely okay! Both times, they rushed though my manicure and barely massaged my back while my nails were drying, even though no one was waiting. Also, the place was absolutely freezing!! The nail tech had a personal heater on herself and seemed okay that my hands were ice cold! When it is 20 degrees outside the heat should be on to ensure a relaxing atmosphere. The reason it received three stars out of two was because this salon had a wide range of beautiful nail polish colors and it is confidently located. This is my second time going to this salon. It's a few blocks away so I was really hoping for a good experience. The first time I went I did a manicure with gel top coat. The next day the gel peeled and chipped off from a few fingernails. This time I went to Susan and got acrylic tips with gel polish. During this time : She glued our fingers together, applied to acrylic too thick, my right hand has two misshaped/ slanted nails, and the pinky finger is supposed to be a chrome nail but to me it's just glitter. I may go back to fix the base of the shape during a refill , but it depends on how long the gel lasts this time. The work is not great. It seems clean in there and the staff is alright. I give three stars because I don't have to keep my hands in my pocket but it's definitely not top notch work. Update: 1/27/17 the thumb acrylic tip came off all together and my gel is chipped on 4 fingers. read more

I love that there is a nail salon for those of us that live near the park. Wasn't impressed with my gel manicure the 1st time I came here, but told myself I'd give it another shot. Management isn't great either- I always have say hello to them and ask how long for a particular service.Last night was my 3rd and last time. My cuticles and the skin around my nails end up looking worse than when I walk in. They also are sloppy with their gel manicures, and I have bubbles. This has happened all 3 times too. You can't beat the price or location, nor can you beat the service. Everyone was very kind and considerate. I came in for a pedicure and left with a mani as well. To be honest, it's one of the best manicures I've had. I'm a chronic nail-biter, constantly working to over-come the issue. But Manju (who was lovely!) took care of me and has cleared by fingers up so nicely that I know I won't be tempted to bite them! 1 hour & 15 mins doing a FILLING !! Came out with cuts on my fingers , she kept cutting me with the nail drill & nail file .. yet she gets mad because i moved my hand real quick ummm well I woundnt be flinching if i feel someone cutting me with the nail file or nail drill !!! 2. I had really long nails and i told her to just cut a little bit & she ended up cutting them to short .. here goes the most important part where i knew she didnt know how to do acrylic !!!! She didnt even make sure they were all the same length !!! They were all to long or to short !! I ended showing the lady in the register and she just looked at her and told me she will fix it . I insisted no because she wanted to cut them even shorter which i didnt want them to be any more shorter . She painted them and all and ended up even worse , i told her to leave it to just take my nail polish off and ill do them myself at home . No tip and i also payed $ 25 she tryed to charge me $ 10 more because i was missing two nails. Which i had no problem paying because it was a great deal from the start but who would fully pay for a really HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! I shouldve asked for a refund because its a day before and my finger nails hurt so bad bc of the cuts i have . The smallest cut hurt the most !!!WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! Not sure about a regular mani pedi, but the powder SNS manicure was the worst. One day out 3 nails were chipped I went back they fixed it the second day 2 nails chipped just showering. The products used were not the best and the finish was awful, smudged and filed too much. When I asked to speak to the person in charge she was quite aloof with me, looked at my nails, told the gir l fix it and walked away from me in a very unfriendly and uncaring manor. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 was because I had to wait a bit and they didn't really do a massage but I had my friend with me so it was worth it :) I had a gel manicure done and it was my first one ever and I will never go back to regular manicures.
