I would like to give less than 1 star for RCN. Their customer service is pathetic; you get a different answer with each different person you speak to. Their Internet service is a joke. It goes out almost daily and is SO slow! They charge rental fees for every little thing that other companies do not charge fees for. Unfortunately, I am stuck with RCN, as no other provider is available to me. My neighbors even got a petition together to attempt to get another company out here! Worst. Ever. I can't say much about their television or their telephone service offerings, but my internet has been rock solid, even during extended power outages. I consistenlty match and even exceed their advertised speed limits. Their customer service is US based, and for the most part knowledgable (if calling after-hours). RCN gets my seal of approval, and I fully recommend it to anyone in the Lehigh Valley area. read more

i switched to rcn from another local company about 9 months ago, and I love it. ive never had any problems! I have the step above the very basic cable package, and cable internet. at my old place with roommates there 5 tvs with cable, I had the pc with the internet, everyone else used the wireless router. that bill was about 160 a month. this one is just 2 tvs, and under 100. I only had to call customer service once and they fixed my problem immediately. my internet and cable has never cut out.. my old cable was so laggy and pixelated that watching anything towards the end was a joke. (I would have complained but I was moving in under a month, didn't care at that point). the cable guys came out to install on a sunday!! weekend installing?! sweet. however there was a lock on the box from the old tenant here being with a different company.. my old one too lol. so they sent out two guys on Tuesday and got it all set up and installed within about 40 minutes. free install, free first month. and autopay online. my only complaint is a lot of my favorite channels are in the next step up from my package, which would be about another 15 a month. and also not a fan of the thousand channels in the guide, most of which I do not get. but I never remember what ones I do have, especially for channels I rarely watched before, so ill select a channel only to see the upgrade number. but all in all im pretty happy with rcn and the great service. I hear great and terrible things about rcn, blue ridge, service electric and Comcast though, so no company is perfect. read more

My old business i had Service Electric 3.5 years and never once did my bill change or had to call them except when it came time to cancel and move. Ive had RCN for less then 1 Year and have had to call them with billing issues, over 7 times!!!! The last time i upgraded and the guy quoted me wrong and now im stuck paying $13 more then what I was quoted, and when I call to ask about it, they flat out tell me maybe Id be better off leaving them. I own a Body shop and when I misquote something, im the one stuck eating the deficit, NOT my customer. Customer Service is Horrible, no one can help you out and the ones that you think can just will not do anything for you. Ive never dealt with such a hardheaded company in my life. They make it a real hassle to even pay them. I had to change my autopay because my credit card number changed and you can't do that online. Ok, I call in to do that, however, they stops my current autopay from going through and they tell me I have to pay it manually. I heard something on the order that I could pay over the phone for $6.95 or I could pay online and get surcharged $1.00. WE NEED A BETTER WAY No disrespect to anyone, I had RCN had a billing problem on their end and had some people on their end that should rethink their employment options in customer service. It took two months for them to admit someone their end screwed up! So like any good and p--off person would do, I changed cable companies. I went to Blue Ridge cable. Turns out it's a national conspiracy and should be investigated at the highest level. There actual product service is the worst I have ever dealt with, the people are ok to deal with but you can hear in the tone of their voice most don't have a clue and are reading of a screen. Then there's the tech that shows up to your door that looks like the wacky professor let out on a work furlough who blames the problem on an area problem they can't seem to find right up to and including outside forces, yet the guy who lives two doors down on the SAME main line doesn't have a problem. You choice, deal with good product service and poor customer service, or poorer cable and ok customer service... No matter either way you paint it, we are paying out our butts for what? Poor TV, internet and phone companies that seem to find ways to keep increasing their rates to suck customers dry!!! Got to be a better way! read more

We had the best experience ever with a communications provider today. Our reception on the TV screens was pixelated and the internet service was sluggish and choppy. When I called they did what they could over the phone and then we set up an appointment. Kevin, the service person was pleasant, courteous and knowledgeable. He found the problem outside. (God bless him for climbing that ladder in the cold and snow) The TV was fixed very quickly. He updated the modem and the first one didn't work but he got another one and everything is terrific now. read more

RCN = $$$$ + inept tech support. RCN was never cheap but I stayed with them for TV, phone, and internet for 36 years. Now my bill was jumped $60 in the last 6 months and it's taking over 5 phone calls to solve a voicemail set-up problem. I just switched TV providers from RCN to another company. So I had to return some of RCN's cable equipment. I couldn't find one of their small Motorola boxes and they charged me the brand new price of $85 for it. The box was 9 years old and is available on Ebay for $20-30. I am not very fond of RCN anymore. read more

Terrible. Whenever renting a movie the tv service kicks out and causes delays. The entire system is old fashioned and needs to adapt to the modern technology that we have in the 21st century. They are crooks! $11 late fee on a bill that was paid a week after the due date!? Not to mention that week was a holiday! They do not give you a grace period whatsoever! I can't believe how inconsiderate this company is to their customers! They charge a ridiculous amount for their service and the customer service representatives are extremely rude. This company is something else. I have brought my services with them down to just Internet - I made a payment early this morning, which my account is and was current, and just over two hours later my account was charged a second time for an unauthorized charge. I called into their customer service number, 1-800-ring-rcn and Shadira picked up my call. I informed her of what happened, as she looked into my account to find out what happened, she stated that her company does not automatically charge customers unless the account is on autopay; I informed her that I do not like autopay nor do I want to be on the program. I would prefer to make the payment online as I have been doing since I started their service in January 2015. She then proceeded to tell me that I was being charged a fee because my September bill was paid not even a week past the due date. I asked her if this was the fee and she said no, you'll see it on your next bill. I told her that my account is and was current in sept and now so why am I being charged a fee. I have compared my rcn account with my bank account and there are no discrepancies. I ended up hanging up and contacting my financial institution to enter a fraudulent claim for the second amount they debited my account for this morning, hours after my initial authorized payment was submitted. I need to wait 24-48hr before the claim is valid and my bank will initiate the fraudulent charge. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE!!!!!! I am and will be seeking out a different internet provider because I have had nothing but issues and attitude when I call their customer service department for help and issues with my bill and account. BEWARE - DO NOT SIGN UP FOR ANY SERVICES WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!! I will be spreading the word for how a customer is treated by their company and how they like to double bill customers account and state they do not see it on their end. I have been with RCN for 14 years. I am very exhausted with them constantly increasing rates. i recently worked with them on lowering rates, which were to be guaranteed for 1 year. Thru July 2017 to be exact. Recently received my bill and noticed notification of increase in surcharges and increase in RCN service charges. Called RCN to discuss increase in charges and expressed my thoughts on the increases that were not to happen until July 2017. They informed me besides the surcharge increase of $6 there will be additional rental fees of $6. What a load of BS, they find ways to increase fees thru the loopholes. After 14 years of dealing with them every year, I'm finally breaking the leash with them. Here I come dish/direct TV, or even service electric. RCN you are losing a customer after 14 years. Gave them 2 stars as they replied to my emails. Internet speed decreases dramatically during peak time 5:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m. Their advice is always powercycle your router blah, blah. I've had trouble with their service since day one. They wanted to charge me a service fee to come to my home and look at the problem. I got a polite customer service representative to waive the charge as later I found out that it was their installation fault from the start. I wasn't credited for the poor service that I was getting and will be going to another service. read more

Finally... There is a real cable company in the Lehigh Valley. When we moved back to the area, we were elated to find that there was finally some real competition in the cable market. Years ago we vividly remember being regularly nickel and dime'd to death by the local monopoly. RCN has supplied our cable for several years now and consistently the bill has been the same with no unanticipated surprises. Their prices are fair and their service has been fantastic. RCN: Unbelievably Unethical!!! Before I begin, let me start by stating that this is the first time in my life that I have written a complaint in regards to any business, company, or corporation but the injustice that I have experienced in my recent situation with RCN is simply unbelievable, inexcusable, and highly unethical. I moved to Easton from Saylorsburg in October and since living here I've been on the phone with RCN four times and had none of the issues resolved (I was also previously a customer with Blue Ridge Communications for years with absolutely no problems). First on March 14th I had purchased UFC 185. After hitting record and then ensuring it was recording on the Tivo, I was off to bed. Upon waking I immediately went downstairs and turned on the television to watch the previous night's event. I was confused when I found the event had not recorded, and promptly called RCN to investigate. I spoke to an operator who went on to inform me that she had no record of the purchase and that it was possible that there was some sort of technical difficulty which would have led to the purchase being negated. I was disappointed that I wouldn't see the fight, but said that as long as I wasn't charged it was ok. Secondly, on April 3rd after a mere 7 months of using RCN my upstairs Tivo remote control stopped working. I tried some fresh batteries and even reprogramming the remote but to no avail. Again I called RCN's customer service in order to see what could be done. The operator said that I had two options. I could either drive to Bethlehem and exchange the remote, or RCN could send me a new remote for a fee of $15. It would arrive within a week. Again I was disappointed that the remote had stopped working after only 7 months, but seeing as I work in New Jersey and felt as though driving to Bethlehem was an inconvenience, I said to go ahead and send me a remote and charge me the fee. On April 14th, after over a week with no sign of the remote I decided to place my third call to the RCN customer service. During the call the automated service stated that I had owed a fee of $220. I began running the numbers through my head, but was going to go ahead and make the payment until it was revealed that there would be a $6.95 fee for paying via telephone. Obviously I made the decision to just go ahead and just mail in a check. Once the operator was on the line, I inquired about the missing remote. She said that she had seen the record of the call, but no new remote had been sent out. She ensured me that she could have the remote sent out immediately, and that it should arrive within 2-5 business days. While on the phone, I inquired about changing my wife's name on the account from her maiden name to her married name. The operator informed me that I would need to fill out and mail in a form for a fee of $12! After 5 days had passed, still no new remote. Once again on April 20th I made the arduous call to inquire about the missing remote as well as some questions about my bill. My wife had not received a bill for the month, yet when we went online to look at our bill, we realized that there was a $60 one-time charge, along with an additional fee to the charge. Of course they do not itemize these costs so that one could see what they were actually being charged for. I also went ahead and double check that my wife had not enrolled for paperless billing and that the mailing address was correct (it was). This time I asked to speak with a manager. Once again I inquired about the missing remote. The manager assured me that it was on its way. I then inquired about the $60 one-time charge. The manager said that it was for the UFC fight that had been purchased. I went on to explain to her the situation about the technical difficulties and that I had actually not viewed the event. She said that the only thing that she could do is cut the fee in half. I then inquired about the late fee and the fact that we had not received a paper bill. She said that it was possible that it was "lost in the mail." Normally if a letter is misspent it turns up at the right address within a week or so. In our case, the bill was MIA. Again the manager said that she could cut the $11 fee in half. I said "so now I'm being charged for a fight that I didn't see, and a late charge even though I never received a bill?" She went on to basically say "yes." I was dumbfounded at the unethical business practice of RCN, and I have a feeling that my situation was not an isolated case. Below is a list of the ridiculous fees and charges that RCN imposes against its hardworking, honest customers. $12.00 fee for a name change on the account $ 6.95 fee to pay your bill via phone $11.00 late fee despite not receiving a bill in the mail $15.00 fee for new remote (21 days later, still no sign of it in the mail) *$60 charge for an event that wasn't viewed Sincerely, An Irate Customer read more

Your service stinks and your new phone menu is an endless loop. Your tech support people always try to get customers to disconnect their router because it is an inconvenience to move furniture and most people just give up. I am supposed to have "Mach 50" and my download speed is barely 20. I have two open tickets, I'm paying $250/month and I am not getting my money's worth for the crappy service you provide. Your automated phone menu prompts the customer for the reason of the call. When customer says "technical support", customer gets 2 choices, press 1 to power cycle modem (which would disconnect my phone call) or press # to return to the main menu. When customer presses #, you get the exact same greeting and customer must again say "technical support" and get the same 2 choices, power cycle or main menu. Whoever is responsible for creating this automated system should be fired. I am tempted to start a class action law suit against RCN for its failure to deliver services I am paying for. read more

Dealing with RCN is nightmare. Their service is shoddy at best, and the internet was constantly on the fritz. Calling their customer service is generally no help with any issue you may be having, and not once have they ever been helpful. RCN is incredibly good at taking what you would expect to be routine service requests or issues, and turning any contact with them into a lengthy and unproductive rigamarole. Many times have I spent half an hour on hold with them, or being constantly transferred between machines and people, and not once have I ever received useful assistance from their customer service. I also believe that RCN is currently involved in a class action law suit, where they are currently being charged of intentionally limiting users' bandwidth speeds. I can only speculate that they had been doing so to avoid updating their own infrastructure in order to provide the service that they promise. Also, they have raised my rates in the past without informing me that rates are being hiked, and with no noticeable increase in performance. I have also encountered a plethora of hidden fees, such as their $5 charge for paying your bill on the phone. My disdain for RCN runs so deep, that I created this yelp account for the sole purpose of warning future prospectives to never, under any circumstances, receive service through RCN. read more

Friday April 29 I was told someone would be here on Monday, May 2, to look into relocating our cable as noted in above review. I was told I had to wait home all day from 8 am to 8 pm, later corrected to 8 am to 9 pm by the technician. I asked my cell be called. I stayed home all day Monday (good thing as technician called home line). I kept calling and being told a half hour by three separate people on three calls. Technician finally came at 7 pm. We discussed a new cable route. I was to be called the next day, Tuesday, May 3. No calls. At 4 pm I called and was that the person I was talking to would send a note to construction to contact me. Now 7 pm on Thursday, May 5 and no calls. All I got was an RCN email at 7 pm on May 4 about my prior YELP post offering to try to help me. What a rotten way to treat customers. Tomorrow off to Verizon store to see what they offer in our neighborhood. And I will get back to YELP reply person because evidently the only way RCN gives service is when they get a one star on YELP. read more

RCN made a mistake and did not correct it!!!!!! My grandfather passed away and I made a phone call only to have them keep EVERY THING UP AND RUNNING due to trying to take care of estate, but to send bills to the lawyers address for the estate account to pay. Rachel did tell us that a death certificate needed to be sent for this address change. Death certificate was sent and everything was shut down. I DID NOT GIVE PERMISSION OR ASK FOR ALL TO BE TURNED OFF. YOU KNOW WHAT ASSUMING MEANS!? The manager (Bill) offered to start a new account, but that is not what should have happened. Oh, and start a new account with bill being $40 more. The excisting account that was NOT SUPPOSE TO BE TURNED OFF, should have been reinstated due to RCNs mistake. I now have no phone to handle estate issues, no internet to handle on-line bills, no t.v. to keep me sane at night after long days of handle packing of granddads belongings. Then we get a bill for $700 or turn in all equipment. ALL THIS FOR RCNs mistake. Thank god I do not EVER have to deal with this company where I reside! POOR MANAGEMENT, POOR SERVICE, and NO CUSTOMER SATISFACATION!!!!!!!! read more

I have had RCN for many years, after switching from several other companies, and I love the service. I have had minimal issues with the internet, phone has been solid, and cable doesn't have all the outages the other company had. The customer service has been polite and knowledgeable, and the one or two times I had a major problem, they had someone out here the next day to fix it. My only complaints are the cost and the internet speed. New customers get an amazing discount, while my service goes up exponentially every year. I only have basic TV, 110 internet, and land phone. My bill is upwards of 155 dollars a month. And I never really get 110 speed on the internet when I use the speed tester on the computer. I only get 75. That bothers me. But everything considered, from the other companies I have used, this is a real step up, and great customer service. I will probably call in and see if I can lower the speed and lower the cost. read more
