We have been without internet for at least two days now and no one is coming out to fix the outdoor line. We have called and no help at all. All they say is they will put a ticket in. What is a point of a ticket if no one follows it? Even when the internet works, the quality is terrible. Wish they could just send someone out to give us what we paid for - a workable internet service. All in all, definitely do not go with Astound if you have any choice in the matter. read more

An Astound VP saw the review and had their team work diligently to investigate the issues I and many others were experiencing. It was 100% an issue on Astound's end. The nodes looked to have not had maintenance done on them in years, maybe a decade or more. Illegal splitters, damaged cables, water ingress was found at the nodes as well as issues directly impacting service from the plant. The maintenance team successfully reduced the noise, creating a much better, stable signal overall over the course of 6 days. The maintenance team and their supervisors are friendly and knowledgeable. Astound's signal still is coming in too high and causing my modem to run out of spec, but the connection is overall 10x better now. The downstream power increased, but my modem's upstream power decreased a lot. This is because the noise/interference has been removed greatly so the signals are able to get through better. On the other hand I've spent a ton of hours troubleshooting, monitoring my network and helping assist Astound (for free.) I've even had to spend over a $150 dollars on parts to test and see what I need on my end to reduce the downstream signal (which looks to be a 7dB attenuator.) Even after the signal was fixed there was an issue with tons of latency. I pinpointed this to be caused by bufferbloat brought on by Astound's network router QoS settings. Astound obviously tweaked the QoS settings on their end especially since the VPN connection all of a sudden was performing better than a direct connection to Astound. I then had to turn on my router's QoS setting to manage the traffic and eliminate the remaining bufferbloat download latency which is something I've never had to do in my 15 years with Xfinity. Bufferbloat is brought on by the pipe data is traveling through being too small so the router tells the network packets to hold on while they sort things out because it's too much to handle. The fact that QoS settings have to kick in means it's too late. QoS deprioritizes certain network traffic (meaning it just drops that traffic to the floor) and lets higher priority things through first. Astound's network is too easily congested (a combination of excessive noise and outdated infrastructure.) My concern is what Astound has listed as "priority" since all of my traffic seemed to be deprioritized and I have a suspicion it could be due to me having my own modem instead of paying for Astound's inferior modem. Astound's customer service also leaves a lot to be desired. A few days ago before my now rescheduled appointment, I received a voicemail from a not so nice sounding lady pretty much telling me the issues have been resolved and that I should cancel the appointment to avoid unnecessary trip charges. The issue isn't resolved though. The downstream signal is still too strong and the supervisor explicitly said they want to find a way ro remove the three-way splitter I had to install originally in-order to lower the downstream power signal to within spec. Right now I have a 6dB high return loss attenuator installed and the network is performing better than it was originally. Unfortunately no one I'm aware of makes a 7dB high return loss attenuator so I had to settle for a regular one which should hopefully be on the way soon. 6 or 7dB should leave enough wiggle room to account for thermal attenuation. The storms over the last few days highlighted another issue. Astound's network seems to experience noticeable degradation when it's raining. This is probably once again due to high levels of water ingress (water seeping into the system causing electrical shorts and other issues.) This is again another problem I never really had with Xfinity. As it is now my latency levels under load are normally under 100 milliseconds, but when it's raining they go over 100 and the network is noticeably slower or goes out. It got to the point where my VPN became unusable as I waited for a web page to take over 20 seconds to load multiple times. To Astound's credit a direct connection over their network worked much better this time around so I suspect once again they tweaked their QoS settings. Overall, a lot of work still needs to be done in order to whip Astound into enough shape to be a true contender against Xfinity. It's pretty obvious they weren't doing nearly enough maintenance on their equipment if it at all over the last decade. Hopefully they eventually figure the rest of the issues out. Also, please send out an alert when you're working on people's lines because my network going out as I'm trying to work then I get a call an hour or two later from a maintenance tech asking me to see if my network is back online since they were working on things is not what most people are used to. I doubt a lot of people have redundant networks to deal with outages. Luckily I have a cellular modem I use to setup temporary connections at work sites that I can use as a failover because my router has dual WAN ports. read more

I have been a customer with them for over a decade when they were WOW. The service was fine enough when I was paying lower prices. However, the cost jumped up to $85 for 200 mbps. When it went from $75 to $85 last week they told me I was already on some type of promotion and there was nothing else available. When I told them I would be find a new internet company, they didn't offer anything to keep me as a customer. They also didn't tell me that they do not prorate any longer, so I'm on the hook for 3 weeks worth of service I won't be using. Supposedly they made the change last year and somehow failed to communicate that to customers. Seriously, just don't bother with them. read more

Astound is the worst ever! My internet is always disconnecting! I called for a technician to come out and I am still experiencing problems. I called to have them discount the 4 days I went without service. The nerve of them to discount me a DOLLAR and some change. I was livid! I was in the market for a fiber connection to replace my reliable DSL service, as I needed more bandwidth to support multiple devices and higher usage. I came across one of Astound's flyers advertising fiber internet at competitive rates and decided to give them a call. Unsurprisingly, their sales rep eagerly confirmed that fiber was available at my location. Based on this, I signed up for their 600 Mbps plan. I had read other reviews about their pricing practices, so I got that covered upfront. When the installation technician arrived, I noticed the cable type. Upon asking, he confirmed that there was no fiber--it was just a cable connection. In short, Astound flat-out misleads potential customers with false fiber claims. This is clearly deceptive marketing and misleading sales tactics. As if the deception wasn't enough, the service quality itself is abysmal. The bandwidth is wildly inconsistent, and the connection is so unstable that we find ourselves constantly running speed tests just to verify the bandwidth we are actually getting. Shockingly, within the first week alone, we experienced several hours of complete outage overnight. With the growing number of IoT devices in today's homes, this level of disruption is simply unacceptable. When I raised these issues with Astound, a local manager from their technical team called to check in and left his number, assuring me I could call him "anytime" if I had further issues. Well, I called three times--he neither answered nor called back! I don't know if my experience will improve in the future, but given how frustrating the first week has been, I can only imagine how bad it will get as time goes on. I changed from Xfinity to astound to get the Bulls games on TV. Since November, my internet and TV have gone down 10 separate times. Downtime has been for hours to days at a time. They come out, do something out at the line and the service works again. A week later it's down again. This Company is flat out awful reliability. Comcast went down maybe once or twice in 10 years. Had a wonderful experience yesterday. Brandon, an Astound technician, came to my home to exchange equipment for an upgrade. What a pleasant person! Brandon was so helpful, explaining the process as he went along with the installation. His work was neat and he even improved some of the cable wire setups. He also took all debris with him. Once again Astound has unacceptable customer service, 6 months to bury a cable wire, they do not return phone calls, 2 cases created Dec and April advised May 1, 2024 will be burying cables, called today to request what the date to bury cable, no date received, updated case, useless response again, they will not forward you to supervisor or manager, unacceptable! read more

Astound has no customer service, and they are not a reliable company. Do not use them! Check out the other reviews. I wish I had. I Filed a case number for a severed cable and was told in an email that it would be 24-48 hours. We are now 55 hours and counting without internet service since filing a case with no update for completing. Customer service was useless despite several phone calls. IDK seems to be their consensus. Every time you contact customer service you have to get a signal sent to your router to assure there is no connection. My cable was severed! Furthermore, when you did speak to a person, they could not provide an update or a supervisor to escalate problem. I am ASTOUNDED that they are still in business. Big mistake using them. read more

Absolutely horrible company. Spotty service. Frequent outages. Just terrible. I had WOW for ever, with very little problem. Astound has been one problem after another. And they don't care. I just moved and terminated service. They sent me a bill for $300 for equipment that they said WOW installed in 2020. Nothing is further from the truth. Customer Service said that they would investigate, but won't say who can make a decision. Avoid this company. They are crooks, and should lose their licenses. read more

Absolutely the worst service I've ever had. From day one it was nothing but excuses after excuses. Took 4 times to get installation and 1 of them they just didn't show up. I probably sent over 30 emails with the response of oh let me look into it and get back to you. Each time nothing was looked into or resolved. Not until I decided to cancel did they want to try and do something, which was also a complete fail. I requested a refund multiple times which was never taken care of. Was supposed to receive a gift card which was never sent. I think my tvs loaded and stopped more than I was able to watch. No wonder they have an F rating with the better business bureau. If I could give zero stars I would. Stay clear of this company. Unless you want months f frustration. read more

Wish I could give less than one star. I had WOW internet service for more than 10 years and I could count on one hand the number of outages that I noticed. Since RCN took over and it became Astound the network has been terrible with outages all the time. Even though most of the outages are for a short time (a few minutes or less) it is still noticeable. This has been going on for months ever since the migration to RCN. If it continues like this I will be switching to another service. read more

The tech came over yesterday and diagnosed the problem. He told me that it was the outside equipment that needed to fixed and that he would put in an order for that. He also gave me his supervisor's card and told me that if the problem persists, to call him directly. He also came in and checked out my equipment and agreed that my router/modem was a very good one and was not involved with my service issues. The tech worked for wow-way before the merger and assured me that my issue would be resolved. He was the best tech that has been out and showed me where the problem was and explained what needed to be done to fix the issue. I'll update this review after they have been out to fix the problem with the outside box. read more

So for the third time Astound was to come out today and fix my service and never showed. When I called their automated service said they had been out and fixed my problem. When I finally got through to a live person and told her I had not seen a technician, she said don't you know they are are invisible. I could not believe she said no that. She then said they would contact me. I have had problems ever since my they bought WOW. Never had a problem with WOW. Their service SUCKS. If you are considering them, RUN DON'T WALK away from them.
