I kind of couldn't taste it because I asked for it to be cooked medium but they cooked it burnt. Not even well done. The beer selection is pretty good and have some nice craft beers. So... there is this new pub in Playa Vista. Where is it you ask? In Whole Foods?!?!? Yup, that's right. Whole Foods has a restaurant that has very good food and local brews. -Happy Hour: There is $2 off on drinks (happy hour!) everyday from 4-7p which is great as well as weekday happy hour specials on food. -Food: I ordered the fish and chips which was good and would definitely order again. My hubby ordered the burger and enjoyed it. We also shared a sushi roll which wasn't the best but wasn't bad. They do have a nice selection of food and drinks with vegan and veggie options. -Location: In the Whole Foods in Playa Vista. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. -Ambiance: Hip, clean restaurant where you almost forget you're in a grocery store. -Parking: They have a huge parking structure. Since they are still building this center out there is a ton of parking. -Additional tips: Get drinks and food here before catching a Cinemark movie all in the same center! read more

Truly the worst service I've had at a bar. The food and drinks weren't even bad. The service was just so awful it still deserves a 1. It took 15 minutes to even have our orders placed. The hot food bar in Whole Food's is my go-to but while visiting this particular branch, I opted for the pub instead because not all Whole Food's have a mini pub inside so why the heck not! The Astro Pub is located inside and at the very corner. Enter from the small gate by the outdoor dining area and you won't miss it. There was no wait on a sunday night but there was still a good amount of people there which was promising. Upon getting seated inside, our server helped my boyfriend choose something new from their fairly extensive list of brews, which was already a surprise because we honestly were not expecting so much on their menu. A lot of the brews they do have at the pub can also be found at the beer section of the store. We are a fan of the beer aisle in WF so yay! We ended up ordering a saint archer's white ale for him and a strawberry ale from a local brewery for myself, the brussel sprouts, margherita pizza, and bulgogi poutine to share. The brussel sprout appetizer was my favorite of the meal, definitely a must try! The poutine was served as thick slices of potatoes and not as fries. Though I am not usually a fan of wedged potatoes, it went really well with the amount of cheese and bbq sauce. Would order again! I thought the pizza was alright, not my favorite but I'm not a big fan of flat bread pizzas to begin with. My boyfriend on the other hand loved it. Not a restaurant I can see people going out of their way for but hey if you're in the area looking for good food, definitely give this place a try. The price for quality is just right. Pros: * SUPER AWESOME craft beer selection on draft, for incredibly cheap prices, especially during Happy Hour (4 to 7 pm). * Friendly servers. Cons: * The only food I tried, the classic burger (available as part of a Thursday Burger & Beer $10 special), was extremely disappointing. Super basic & uninteresting. One of the worst restaurant burgers I've had in a long time. Uninteresting meat, no special toppings, tiny & uninteresting bun (way smaller than the burger--made for a big mess). * Extremely limited seating, at least until/if they reopen the outdoor seating area. * Extremely limited dessert selection. They have a bakery & coffee bar at Whole Foods there-Astro Pub should have awesome desserts & coffee, too! Huge potential, but needs some reworking. Today we had the worst experience at Astro Pub. They have hired a host and he is behaving more like a bouncer instead of a host. Not welcoming at all! He blocked me as I was entering the place to join my tween daughter who had already been seated and had ordered food. Instead of welcoming me or asking me if he could help getting me seated he shouted at me saying:" you don't enter without checking with me first and you didn't give me your name." Even when my friend and I said we are joining a kid who is already seated he didn't back down and continued to follow us and shout. You would think we had breached some airport security laws! A couple of waitresses who have known us ( we eat there a few times a week since they had opened in June) tried to calm me down. One even said that it was the host 's first day! BINGO! The host's name was Marvin. I was so upset that I asked to speak to a manager. One showed up and had quite a bit of attitude! Not ur typical manager. She said she was in charge of all areas. Next thing I knew another person shows up and said he is a manager of Astro pub.His name was Zeke. Sadly, Zeke only defended Marvin and did not seem to care about the embarrassment his host had caused a couple of regular customers. I was quite flabbergasted that Zeke didn't apologize nor did he acknowledge the host 's aggressive and unwelcoming attitude. It didn't occur to him that a new host might need training. So if you see a bouncer type in front of Astro Pub standing behave as you would in front of a night club! Having said all that, the majority of other employees there are quite nice and welcoming. my kid loves going to Astro pub for their burgers and Mac n Cheese in the cast iron. We have been going there since they opened in June and we generally love the atmosphere there. But we will not be going back there at least for a very long long time. read more

If you don't care about he food them I would say consider his one step above McDonald's. Staff didn't ask me once how my food was. IMHO, if you're Whole Foods, you should offer something unique, of good value with decent wine and that actually is a few steps higher than fast food... I seriously think they CAN DO BETTER! My husband and I were so excited about the new whole foods opening up in our neighborhood. When we heard there would be a little pub inside with daily specials we were even more excited. We could now walk to happy hour! Unfortunately, there's been nothing happy about it. :( We've been here at least 4 times and the service keeps getting worse and worse while the food remains mediocre and overpriced. They removed most of the outdoor seating so quarters are close when you want to eat on the patio. And don't bother trying their new brunch. It seems like a good deal but it's not worth it. Food was just ok and we didn't get our coffee until half way through and our mimosas came out last. Yup, last. To top it off, you'll find inattentive parents that let their obnoxious children run around while the servers turn a blind eye. Not exactly a relaxing Sunday morning. If Astro pub doesn't make some serious changes fast, the new restaurants popping up are sure to take all of its business. Good luck, Astro. We really wanted to love you but it's just not working out. We live in the neighborhood and were excited when Whole Foods and Astro Pub opened up by us. We've been to Astro Pub five times or so and each time has been worse than the last. The food has always been mediocre at best while service has always been on the terrible side. We kept giving it a chance since it's so close and convenient for us, but today was the last time we'll ever go. We came in to try their new brunch platter around noon on a Sunday. There were about 3-4 tables of people inside and one other table outside (the drop off of patrons each time we have gone has been noticeable). We were seated outside with a less-than-friendly welcome of our server dropping the menus and walking away. Fast forward 10-15 minutes and no one has come back to take our order. Meanwhile, the server for the table next to us has come out three times to drop their drinks and food. I go inside and ask if we're supposed to order at the counter to which I receive a "oh, we each thought the other was taking take of your table." Fair enough, I guess. Although, hard to understand how there could be much confusion when there's 3 servers and 5 tables. Our server finally comes out and we order the brunch platter. We wait about 10 minutes and the food arrives -- but no drinks. We don't say anything at first and start to slowly eat hoping they'll be along soon. 10 minutes later, still no drinks or sign of our server. Finally she arrives to drop off empty coffee cups, cream and sugar and leaves. A sign that drinks are coming soon, I guess? Another 5-10 minutes goes by (we've had our food for a good 15 minutes at this point) before I catch her attention to ask if we're getting our mimosas (part of the brunch platter). She says they are coming out and heads back in behind the bar to avoid us for another 5 minutes. Finally, the server comes out with our mimosas and coffee. We've nearly finished eating by this point since we've had our food for so long. Never any kind of apology, no 'sorry for the wait'. Nothing. To top it off, apparently the patio at Whole Foods doubles as a daycare for oblivious parents. The table next to us (who received much better service from what we could tell) had their two kids with them who they felt it appropriate to let roam around the patio space as though it were a playground while they laughed and yelled across our table for them to come back when they would wander off. Oh, and they played terrible children's sing along songs on their phones at full volume for all to enjoy. To summarize, unless you enjoy overpriced, mediocre food with terrible service in a setting that doubles as a daycare/playground, never come here and thank me later. read more

2nd time here. Food is pretty good, very reasonable prices. Service, however, is really bad; it's completely understaffed. They *never* clear the tables and since people sit down and eat on real plates with real utensils and aren't asked to buss their own tables when they finish, it's a problem (and messy) when it gets busy. If they added like one more waitstaff, had someone bussing, or asked patrons to clear their tables when finished, I think it would flow more smoothly. Unfulfilled potential. Astro pub had a rough start and has gone downhill from there. They've made a number of questionable management decisions (like closing the outdoor patio) that make me think this place will only be successful until the other restaurants open at the runway. In general the food is pretty good and reasonably priced. The service, while well intentioned, is not very experienced or attentive. I've been here a bunch of times and rarely do my drinks arrive before my food. I've had appetizers brought out after my main course. And it's a miracle if everyone in your party gets their food at the same time. We've even had a glass of wine that we ordered before ordering food get brought at the same time as the bill. Finally if you don't have malt vinegar, you shouldn't have fish and chips on the menu. read more

I can't believe it's taken me this long to try Astro Pub. Slipping into a cozy little Jetson-like booth, I didn't feel like I was in Whole Foods anymore. My mom ordered the burger and was a little disappointed, but I decided to go vegan that night and went for the coconut cast iron tofu skillet, and the firecracker roll (vegan sushi). I'm glad I got the two dishes, as one would have been enough. The tofu skillet was so unique and flavorful and served with some hearty bread for sopping up all the delicious sauce. And the firecracker roll was fresh and tasty, though wrapped in seaweed (the server said no seaweed, so was an unpleasant surprise for me....) but still pretty good. I would definitely go back for happy hour, and for sure get the tofu skillet again. read more

I joke that this is my happy place where I go to hide and eat 5-dollar sushi paired up with sparkling wine. The fact of the matter is that I really love it here. I've been coming since it first opened, and my first serving experience was with Stacey. She passionately and patiently ran me through the different craft beer options and made me feel welcome in this new and strange place. She's part of the reason why I come back again and again. I was excited to hear that WF had finally opened one of their pub/restaurants in L.A. as I've visited a few other elsewhere (San Diego for one) and enjoyed their beers and lunch specials. However, this being L.A. of course, meant that my expectations were too high. To start with, the entrance is a bit confusing for most people as there was a sign that said "please wait to be seated" but no server/host in sight. Most people came, waited for a few minutes and then either left or just did what I did and sat themselves at either the long bar or a table. Eventually a server would show up----not friendly, not happy but someone who looked like they'd been pulled from the sandwich making operation on the other side. The other big disappointment I had was that the daily lunch specials were not good deals. I've dined at the store in SD and enjoyed a delicious mac n' cheese combo with a draft beer for $7----here you need $12-18 to get the same thing. And the beers are only cheap during their happy hours (another fact of living in high priced L.A. I guess). I decided to try the cheese plate and wine special which included a glass of house white or red for $12. It took the server about 10 minutes to get me that glass of wine and when she finally did I wanted to return it because the glass was so spotty and looked unclean that I was sure I'd get eColi from it. I decided not to because the chance of her returning within the lunch hour was lower than the chance of me winning that night's Powerball lottery. When I finally got the cheese plate, it was very good and I could tell it was a good sampling of cheeses from WF's selection but there were too many olives and not enough crackers (forget about getting any bread!). In the end, with the extremely poor service on a day that wasn't that busy, I figured that coupled with the high prices and dirty glassware that I'd probably not come back except maybe to try a beer during happy hour-----if they wash those glasses first that is! read more

Very slow service - I've been here 3 times because it is a block from where I live and every time the service had been really slow!!! I waited 15 minutes for a water, how is that possible? The places wasn't packed and it's just water. The food is small portions - mediocre. It's just like Whole Foods - the allure of "healthy organic" overpriced items, overpriced because it's mediocre. We were checking out the new Whole Foods Sunday. We had tickets to the movie and were checking out this new shopping center. We planned on going to Hopdaddy for lunch after Whole Foods. While checking out the amazing variety of prepared foods offered by the pound, we noticed they also had a restaurant. They had a special of a ribeye sandwich and any beer for $12. I was instantly hooked. Wife had a Lemon Drop and Avocado Roll and I got the special with a dark beer. Bartender had me try both dark beers first. I liked the oakey one. Wife loved the Lemon Drop and my Steak Sandwich was enormous on a giant piece of country bread served with fries and chimmichuri sauce and aioli too. I put one sauce on one bun and the other sauce on the other bun. Huge tasty sloppy sandwich. I loved the tender ribeye. I finished the whole Sandwich and lots of fries. It was so tasty and everyone was so helpful and efficient. I could barely eat a tiny dinner 7 hours later. We will be back for sure. There are Happy Hour deals most nights and nightly combo specials that include a beer and entree for just a couple dollars more than the beer alone. You can't beat that. I'm still thinking about that sandwich and it's a day after. That really says something. read more

this place is amazing. it's way better than that crap pub across the way, hop doddy's. the service is on point. the food is legit. the specials are there! happy hour you can get beers for under $5. if you're in the know. they have stellas in bottle behind the counter that are unadvertised for like $3 on happy hour as well! the fish and chips special w a beer is phenomenal and easily could be shared for the size of the two pieces of fish they give you. i've shut this bar down on many an occasion - so til like 10p. good place to people watch as well seein all the bourgeois peeps come in and out. get in the know. this place is bomb. read more
