Once I started taking pictures they started to "clean" and claimed they were "busy".

I don't even know where to begin! We walked in half of the tables were not cleaned very unsanitary! We sat down and we waited for over 1 hour for our food to be delivered. The server seemed bothered when we were ordering he kept saying, "No! No! No!" To everything we asked for! Horrible spot!! And on top of that when we got our food, they served us the wrong items!! I came here hungry and left hungry!!

We devoured the rolls and chirashi bowl before I realized I didn't take a photo. We ordered takeout and had the Kaigen Special Roll, Kiss on Fire, Rainbow Roll, Tempura Roll (for toddler), Chirashi bowl, salmon nigiri and hamachi nigiri. Food was fresh and delicious. Our favorite is definitely their Kaigen special roll but all rolls tasted amazing and the quality was fantastic. We will be back to try more of what you have to offer. Thank you!

My beautiful chirashi bowl: very fresh sushi!!

This place totally deserves more business than it receives! Very friendly service all around and a sushi chef who really prides himself in his work. I came on a weekday around lunch time and there was only 1 other person eating here. Very clean restaurant with a comfortable ambiance. I ordered a chirashi bowl that was meticulously created and beautifully presented. The sushi was so fresh and my belly was happy with the portions. I would definitely come back and eat here again!

Grab lunch near hospital. Yummy pad Thai (seafood). Quick pick me up food. Love it. Great, cheerful staff. Varied menu of the Asian persuasion. Tucked away...near bonfaire mini-market.

Beef pad see ew- pretty good, but not enough veggies

This about the 4th time I've come to this restaurant. They are not providing a nice portion of food, so I'm writing this review. Tonight we ordered to go: Tom Ka Kai soup- it was good. Nothing to write home about, but tasty. Seems weird that there are tomatoes in it. Pad see ew- tasty, perfect blend of flavors, nice noodle to meat ration, but only about 4 pieces of broccoli and about the same number of slivered carrots. I feel like there should be more veggies. Papaya salad- dressing/sauce tasted good, but really only papaya and no other garnishments except a large chunk of wilted lettuce filler. I cut it up at home to make sure that we had a enough salad to share since the portion was quite small. Panang chicken- this has me irritated. The sauce is a bit watery, so the flavor isn't as concentrated. I like that it's not too sweet, though. What I'm really unhappy about is that it's basically a pepper panang. The amount of chicken is minuscule. The amount is so minuscule that I had to call the restaurant to complain. Skimping on the meat seems to be quite the theme with this place since last time I ordered the shaking beef and it also lacked the fair portion of meat. Very annoying. One order of rice- it was loosely packed so I am not happy about this. For goodness sakes if you are going to skimp on portions, at least provide enough rice to fill the box. I called and spoke with either the manager or owner. I explained my disappointment and he apologized, but this is the second time that I've been compelled to actually call to complain.

The menu was huge, it must've had over 100 things on it, hand rolls, nigiri, sukiyaki, cold and hot tapas/sides, udon, and more. Narrowing down what to get wasn't easy. Since it was the nigiri and robata skewers that sold me, that's what I went with. Prices on the menu didn't seem all that high, but it definitely adds up as you start to get a few things. Between the 3 types of nigiri and 2 skewers I got and the Sukiyaki and hand roll my friend got, we were close to $100 after tax and tip, which felt high for the fact that I was still fairly hungry when we left. The interior felt trendy, sleek, and upscale, but not stuffy at all. It's not a huge space, but there's a decent amount of seating. Service was attentive and parking was easy later in the evening on a weekday.

Located in the heart of downtown Redwood City, Kemuri is a pretty big, simple, minimal, and industrial space. It has tall ceiling with skylights for natural lighting, and a nice airy feeling. On weekends, it fills up very quickly with reservations, mostly for smaller families, and singles mingling. We opted to sit at the bar & forgo the queue, and had a pleasant short time here, drinking & snacking. It has a lot of outdoor seating, and inside is spacious with lots of smaller tables & some larger ones for bigger parties. The atmosphere is upbeat, and the service is excellent. Our hostess did double/triple duty not only for seating, but taking orders, running out food, and attending to pickups & phone orders. It was amazing to watch her operate professionally, courteously, efficiently, and politely with everyone coming in. Our bartender(s) were nice, but not chatty. We ordered the Tokyo mule & Kemuri sour cocktails and I really liked the mule. It was served in a pretty large glass, and had great flavor and just enough Ketel One vodka for me to catch a buzz. The Kemuri sour was just ok, a bit too fruity and not strong enough for me as a high end cocktail. The drinks were served quickly, well-presented, and priced reasonably for cocktails. They even have Asahi & Sapporo beer on tap, which I will try next time! For food, we ordered the Ikuri smoked salmon Yaki-ono benedict with a side of pickled vegetables. Both dishes were very small, and the Ikuri salmon benedict didn't have a lot of flavor or pop, but it was served well-presented & fresh. I liked the crispy fried rice ball, but I wasn't a fan of hollandaise sauce & tiny poached egg. It all became a watery, soupy mess once the egg yolk was broken, and the salmon roe lacked any real saltiness and it did not have enough smoked salmon or seasoning. The pickled vegetables were great and served in a tiny mason jar, but I only wish that it was a bit bigger, with more veggies to snack on, but what was in it tasted very good, fresh, and tart. If I came back here again, I would order some larger rice dishes or chef's specials, plus appetizers, to fill up a little bit more. The restaurant seems very popular with families & friends coming in for casual dining. It's a very large space that can hold a lot of people, but I think the dishes are a bit too small, unless you order a lot of them. The drinks are very good, and I'd come back more to drink here, while dining on appetizers, tapas, and a few entrees. Service is excellent, and the space is very minimal, clean, cavernous & dark, and a fun place to hangout for an hour. Tip: make reservations or sit at the bar, this place is busy, fairly loud, and crowded. I'd come back during the week or later than dinnertime, to have a quieter & less rushed experience. But, I enjoyed the space & service. Food is a 3.5/5, drinks are a 4.5/5, and service is a 5/5.

The amount of dressing was about right, maybe just a touch more than ideal for me, but they were pretty light-handed with it overall. The miso soup and avocado maki were good. The avocado maki had more avocado in proportion to rice than other places, so that was nice. 3. Mochi ice cream, strawberry. This was pretty good. About average, I guess. 4. Yuzu cheesecake. Nice citrus flavor. I know Japanese cheesecakes are airier/lighter than American cheesecakes, but I thought they are usually a bit more creamy than this one. This one was more like a regular cake. It was good, though. Overall a good, casual place I'd be glad to return to for Japanese food.
