Oh Shiki, your staff is so slow and your bento boxes are so sad. Nothing like dry salmon and a horrible eel roll to make me say eek, why I'd thisbppacw still in business? Portions are small, the prices are not cheap. Not sure how they'll continue. I say get new management and new chefs and overhaul this poor sushi joint!

    California and spicy Tuna roll

Starting with the server, Auri, was great and prompt and caring, food as always delicious on time and Moscow mule and margherita were excellent. California roll, spicy tuna roll, grilled shrimp very delicious and perfect so was chicken Yakituri and shrimp and veggie tempura. Overall as always, greeted by the host, had us seated within 1 minute and right away Auri was there to greet us and take our drink order. Once again, perfect please for great food, greater service and reasonable price.

The service was very slow, at one point I started to think if they forgot us. We asked for Wifi password for my daughter's Ipad, they said they don't share the password with guests. Just why? This is not friendly in my opinion. Overall food was not delicious at all. Not the worst but definetly was not the best. Kids menu's food was nice. Just we asked to change one entree to one another but they said no, again. But like "NO" Instead of chicken entree would like to have one more cucumber sushi. Wanted to ask, why are you this strict? This should be a fun place. Overall, the place is not welcoming. I didn't like and will not come back

My friends and I went for lunch and really enjoyed it. They have lots of options on their lunch specials menu, and it is decently priced for a restaurant located in San Carlos.

Tonight's dinner was such a bad experience on many levels. 1st) my wife has been been vegan for 30+ years, we have eaten here before and she's been able to get the vegetable ramen with udon broth sub rice. Tonight they gave her a normal ramen even after she said that she is vegan and can't do meat or dairy. 2) The new containers you guys are using are terrible!!!! In the picture here shows how bad they are that they leaked through the container and into the bag. Half of the broth went into the bag. 3) the gyozas were luke warm at best and soggy. 4)The only reason I gave a 2nd star is the fact that they refunded my wife's ramen otherwise it would have been 1 star. Shiki bistro I've had your food before, DO BETTER! Make your options more available to people with food allergies or sensitivities.

    Nigiri Combo Lunch
    Kevin T.

Shiki Bistro has an extremely underrated lunch menu. The prices are phenomenal and the pieces of fish are very high quality. For just $16, you can get 9 pieces of high quality Nigiri during lunch time. It even comes with soup and salad. Shiki Bistro doesn't cheap out on their selection either, serving premium options like the scallop. In addition to the nigiri combo, there's a great selection of bentos and rolls that are offered at low prices during lunch. This is my new favorite lunch sushi spot because of the quality and most importantly the affordability!

We were able to make reservations before we headed there (15 min) away. The place was packed, but we got seated pretty quickly. Based on reviews, toro was the thing to get. With that in mind and getting recommendations from the waiter, we decided on rolls. They were all very good esp the toro ones. There was one that was not as amazing as the others. I think it was Angry Fish. The service was fast, but maybe not the most friendly. Just seems like they were rushing. They were busy, so that was probably why. Overall, I would come again for good sushi.

The sushi chefs really know what they're doing and are incredibly kind and welcoming. I also really appreciate how attentive they are without being intrusive. They seem to know when to give you privacy and space and when to interact and engage with you. They're always friendly and working with a smile, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. This is definitely a place I'll be coming back to, and I'll happily use any special occasion as an excuse to return. Seeing an all-Japanese kitchen staff and sushi chefs immediately gave us good expectations--unlike a lot of Instagram-viral sushi spots run by non-Japanese owners where we've been disappointed before. It's not a flashy, high-end fine dining restaurant, but rather a clean, welcoming neighborhood sushi joint. The overall quality is very solid: sticking to the basics, well-executed, and super fresh with zero fishiness. We ordered the 8-piece Chef's Omakase (which came with a complimentary Tamago for $63--prices seem to vary depending on the daily fresh catches listed on their daily specials board). Most people seem to order the omakase and then add extra dishes. We also ordered: * Hamachi Kama * Deep-Fried Baby Octopus (wonderfully tender and delicious!) * Salmon Tacos * Miso Soup We paired everything with a dry, clean sake that complemented the sushi perfectly. The service was exceptionally friendly throughout our meal. While it's not a "mind-blowing" fine-dining experience, finding a reliable, fresh, and well-priced sushi spot like this in the area is a huge win. We'll definitely be coming back whenever we're nearby!

Even the dessert and the miso soup had a little twist that made it unique. The chef was also very pleasant and easy to talk to. The style isn't as wild as Robins non traditional style but it truly is edomae with some elevated modern twists. One thing I noticed was almost every piece or maybe even every piece was dry aged for a few days instead of serving straight fresh. They also don't dress it up so much to take away from the fish but to compliment the fish and give it that subtle but noticeable specialness instead of just the nikiri glaze. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by how good everything was and I'd def recommend if you're an omakase enthusiast!

My client and I were talking a bit too much and they kept having to remind us so they can serve everyone doing the course experience. The ambiance of the restaurant was perfect to chat as we are on the quieter side. At this point we got pretty full but we kept going: Chi ayu handroll - so cute, a baby fish with its mouth open...but so good too. Miso soup - unique white miso, a flavor I have yet to experience until this meal Dessert - so good I didn't get a picture and can't remember what it was anymore. Overall a really good experience and I'll definitely be back! Excited to see how the menu progresses with time.

All the dishes are interesting and very flavorful, service is pretty quick as well. I've tried the Veggie Tempura and Agedashi Tofu from the bites section. Both are delicious even though these are fairly simple dishes, as expected. Tempura is oily as expected and is something which I skipped the next time to try some of the many nicer items they have to offer. It's crispy and delicious- and simple, what you'd expect from a tempura. All the vegan sushis are awesome and I especially liked their Veggie Tiger Roll and spicy veggie roll. None of the ingredients, like cream cheese overpower the flavors - everything is well balanced and each ingredient stands out uniquely on its own. Yum! It's a cute and small restaurant and they do not take reservations- only walk-ins. So I'd suggest going with some time in hand or going at an odd time. It wasn't too busy around 1:30 pm and we got a table for us pretty quickly. There's a big parking lot - so it isn't an issue there.
