Spicy Chirashi (spicy sauce in the side)

My friends and I went for lunch and really enjoyed it. They have lots of options on their lunch specials menu, and it is decently priced for a restaurant located in San Carlos.

The service was very slow, at one point I started to think if they forgot us. We asked for Wifi password for my daughter's Ipad, they said they don't share the password with guests. Just why? This is not friendly in my opinion. Overall food was not delicious at all. Not the worst but definetly was not the best. Kids menu's food was nice. Just we asked to change one entree to one another but they said no, again. But like "NO" Instead of chicken entree would like to have one more cucumber sushi. Wanted to ask, why are you this strict? This should be a fun place. Overall, the place is not welcoming. I didn't like and will not come back

Tonight's dinner was such a bad experience on many levels. 1st) my wife has been been vegan for 30+ years, we have eaten here before and she's been able to get the vegetable ramen with udon broth sub rice. Tonight they gave her a normal ramen even after she said that she is vegan and can't do meat or dairy. 2) The new containers you guys are using are terrible!!!! In the picture here shows how bad they are that they leaked through the container and into the bag. Half of the broth went into the bag. 3) the gyozas were luke warm at best and soggy. 4)The only reason I gave a 2nd star is the fact that they refunded my wife's ramen otherwise it would have been 1 star. Shiki bistro I've had your food before, DO BETTER! Make your options more available to people with food allergies or sensitivities.

    Nigiri Combo Lunch

Shiki Bistro has an extremely underrated lunch menu. The prices are phenomenal and the pieces of fish are very high quality. For just $16, you can get 9 pieces of high quality Nigiri during lunch time. It even comes with soup and salad. Shiki Bistro doesn't cheap out on their selection either, serving premium options like the scallop. In addition to the nigiri combo, there's a great selection of bentos and rolls that are offered at low prices during lunch. This is my new favorite lunch sushi spot because of the quality and most importantly the affordability!

Years ago, this chef's choice sashimi box was a new thing, and it has always been my favorite here. No one else does it like Kiroro. They put some creativity into the box with the pairing of ingredients and also the presentation. I like the sprig of rosemary slightly lit with the smoke permeating as the server brings it to the table. They always tell you what each sashimi concoction is. The experience of indulging in these nine little wooden compartments is an exciting journey for the taste buds. It goes well with some of their refreshing sake selections. They also offer things on the menu which are not found at every other sushi joint out there. The Uni Ikura Shot is one I have yet to try. I love their Super Fish Tacos which come in fours. If you want a "riceless" sushi roll, they have the Naruto and Mario Roll. I always go for the Naruto Roll. They also have A5 Wagyu here also which you can get as sushi, or as ramen. The Hamachi Kama is quite tasty also. In fact, their entire menu is quite extensive with everything from Chicken Karaage to Unagi Ramen. It's hard for me to deviate from the box, but everything I've had here has been delicious. Kiroro has more of a casual cafe style atmosphere, but the food is definitely not atypical for an informal restaurant. Service is also friendly and attentive. It's definitely my favorite local sushi restaurant!

Or something similar to it, double toro roll, rainbow roll, lion king roll(best lion king roll because they did NOT over due it with the sauce) and last min we added on the uni which was served on a fried leaf? Forgot the name lol) everything was great.

Today I was able to meet my friend here for lunch and since it was a weekday we got a table right away at noon. To our pleasant surprise there was a lunch special offered at the back of the menu. For $17 you can a item from column A then B. I went with teriyaki beef (+1) and gyoza. The lunch special came with rice, tea and miso soup. I order the yuzu drink too. Everything was so yummy! The decor is cute with many lucky cats near the entrance and around the sushi bar. Near the back there is a huge display kawaii, anime and robotech figures. I can see kids enjoying looking at them. Looks like they have a private room option that is narrow and long with many 2 seater table side by side, maybe they open it up when they get busy. They have a parking lot that can exit through the back is what my friend told me but I found street which has a 2 hour limit. I saw a car with a parking ticket so I'm guessing they do enforce it. I still would not consider this restaurant authentic, but I did enjoy the semi-Americanized Japanese food. My family shared: * Lion King roll: snow crab and avocado topped with baked salmon, spicy aioli, tobiko, scallion, and unagi sauce * Papillon roll: hamachi and avocado topped with seared hamachi, jalapeno, spicy aioli, and ponzu sauce * Salmon teriyaki * Tonkatsu cutlet * Chirashi bowl 1 star off: The only item I did not like was the Butterfly roll because the spicy tuna was way too spicy. The best deal is their lunch special bento boxes. A protein entree comes with a small maki sushi, salad, and miso soup for $17.

No "excuse me" just a direct "are you recording?" And without giving my friend a chance to explain that he wasn't (he is just a heavy Pokémon Goer), the server went on "no recording is allowed. You can't do that" Blah blah. There are clearly better and more professional ways to handle this. And assuming customers at fault is not. We ordered two hot plates and two Kaisen don at $60 each. Hot plates are good. Kaisen don is very sad. That's the least fresh toro and uni I have ever had. My friend is not used to complaining, but I decided not to swallow it. After some back and forth, they offered to replace the toro and uni. Although it's an okay gesture, my friend was not offered the replacement-- not even asking, while we ordered the same set. The replacement didn't come with the average freshness I have experienced, but better than the original. Then we started to look at google reviews, only to find out that the ikura included in the don was completely missing. It was offered after we complained. But again, no apologies. For an expensive item with clear description of the content in the menu, I don't know if it's a mistake or not. Btw, our Kaisen don doesn't look like their official picture at all.

We really recommend checking out their off menu items (they will hand you a hand-written note when you get there) because the chef is just clearly so talented. Here are the highlights: * Ankimo Nigiri (off menu): Have to be honest, I was actually pretty scared to try ankimo (Google said it's monkfish liver - like who even dare to eat liver ), but I'm so glad I did. It wasn't fishy or difficult to eat at all, but incredibly rich and creamy. I'm obsessed!!! * Otoro (off menu): This was the star. The tuna belly was pure umami, super fatty, buttery, and literally melted the second it hit my tongue - really recommend ordering this one * Lobster Roll (off menu): As a girl who's on calories deficit, my body screams for help when I found out it had shrimp tempura (I tried to avoid fried food), but this roll was so damnnnnn savory! It's made of lobster, shrimp tempura and a combo of eel sauce, spicy mayo, and tobiko - no need anymore dipping sauce cause they were just phenomenal * Kaisen: This was a refreshing roll - made of tuna, salmon, hamachi (yellowtail), and white tuna. Shiso (perilla) really enhanced the flavor of the fish and brought fresh taste that I think is the best pairing for any sushi/sashimi dish * Woodside Roll: This was the only miss for us. It uses minced spicy tuna, which honestly ruined the texture and flavor of the fish. We prefer tasting the real meat rather than a mash :( Overall, we like everything that we order, and our bill came out at around $100 for all that we had (budget friendlyyyyy) and we were really satisfied with the sushi quality. My client and I were talking a bit too much and they kept having to remind us so they can serve everyone doing the course experience. The ambiance of the restaurant was perfect to chat as we are on the quieter side. At this point we got pretty full but we kept going: Chi ayu handroll - so cute, a baby fish with its mouth open...but so good too. Miso soup - unique white miso, a flavor I have yet to experience until this meal Dessert - so good I didn't get a picture and can't remember what it was anymore. One thing I would do differently is serve the soup first.
