Salmon Avo Roll & Shrimp Tempura Roll
Stephanie V.

AMAZING amazing amazing experience! Haven't been here before but was in town and needed to try it. 100/10. I'm a Sushi snob and I promise you so delicious! The food was amazing, we inhaled and ate in slow motion at the same time. Prices were also great! (I used to live in LA so I'm used to absurd prices for good sushi). Didn't get to try the boats or sashimi but I can tell you it looked amazing. Service killed it too, staff was crazy busy but still incredibly attentive!!! We sat at the bar and had a great time. The restaurant is fairly small so you will want to come with time to spare for the waitlist. They do accommodate large parties but again, small space so beware of that. WILL COME BACK FOR SURE.

Their infamous Super Sugoi Box - the best around
Elizabeth S.

I have been to Kiroro several times throughout the years since they opened. So this review is long overdue! It's the Super Sugoi Box that always brings me back. Years ago, this chef's choice sashimi box was a new thing, and it has always been my favorite here. No one else does it like Kiroro. They put some creativity into the box with the pairing of ingredients and also the presentation. I like the sprig of rosemary slightly lit with the smoke permeating as the server brings it to the table. They always tell you what each sashimi concoction is. The experience of indulging in these nine little wooden compartments is an exciting journey for the taste buds. It goes well with some of their refreshing sake selections. They also offer things on the menu which are not found at every other sushi joint out there. The Uni Ikura Shot is one I have yet to try. I love their Super Fish Tacos which come in fours. If you want a "riceless" sushi roll, they have the Naruto and Mario Roll. I always go for the Naruto Roll. They also have A5 Wagyu here also which you can get as sushi, or as ramen. The Hamachi Kama is quite tasty also. In fact, their entire menu is quite extensive with everything from Chicken Karaage to Unagi Ramen. It's hard for me to deviate from the box, but everything I've had here has been delicious. Kiroro has more of a casual cafe style atmosphere, but the food is definitely not atypical for an informal restaurant. Service is also friendly and attentive. It's definitely my favorite local sushi restaurant!

First time here, for a party of two on a Tuesday night. We got seated really quickly since there were a lot of open table around 5ish? But it did fill up later on for sure. No cons at all. This place have such great service even my friend said how attentive they were always refilling our water and asking how's everything? They also gave us a dish on the house by the chef. Little things like that makes our dining experience even better. We ordered seaweed salad, monk fish liver? Or something similar to it, double toro roll, rainbow roll, lion king roll(best lion king roll because they did NOT over due it with the sauce) and last min we added on the uni which was served on a fried leaf? Forgot the name lol) everything was great.

Vibe: 3/5 Service: 4/5 Drink: N/A Food: 5/5 Value: 4.5/5 Downing sake flights on a Sunday at noon with your young teenagers present... Not us. But the table next to us was sure having a fun lunch. We came here after looking for a lunch spot post-shopping and were pleasantly surprised. From the complimentary (!) edamame and the delicious El Camino Roll to the phenomenal, super fresh omakase and the uni served on a deep-fried shiso leaf, the quality of the food blew us away. Definitely worth every penny. It was so good, we're already talking about going back for the upgraded omakase and super Sugoi box.

Deluxe Chirashi Bowl

KIRORO! i need you in san diego. if you're looking for a go-to sushi spot, this is it. this is always on my list to hit up when i'm back home. the quality is insaneee and the prices are incredibly reasonable. for some reason, i've only ever gotten take out here but it always hit nonetheless. the deluxe chirashi is a non-negotiable. easily feeds two people. the quality of every slice of fish is comparable to japan. they also pair some of the fish with different sauces like ponzu. the presentation is top notch and they add kizami wasabi on top of the fish. their rice is so good and they provide so much of it. my favorite pieces from the chirashi are the toro and uni of course. (tbh i love them all). you'd think this bowl would be $80, but it's only $55. a steallllll! my favorite roll to order is the double toro roll. the toro on top, salmon belly and mango in the middle.. they just compliment each other so well the mango cuts into the fattiness of both fish to create a great balance. two excellent cuts of fish for $18 is such a great deal too.

Amazing options for vegetarian sushi!! We ordered Veggie on Fire, Mango crunch and Veggie Bomb, absolutely loved all 3 but Veggie bomb was our absolute favorite. Would definitely come back.

Spider crab ramen - big portion!
MJ M.

Don't know how this wasn't on my radar before but this will probably be my go to sushi restaurant in San Mateo going forward. Spider ramen - Big portion, can be shared between 2 ppl. A lot of times I find ramen broths too salty/fatty. This one was actually really nice and the fried crab was AMAZING. I also also liked the variety of veggies the soup came with. This one is a winner - solid 5 We also ordered the rainbow, dragon, hamachi avo and spicy tuna roll. All were really good (also 5s) except for the spicy tuna which was pretty spicy - maybe a medium - and wasnt as good as the others - maybe like a 3.5. But overall great food here and look forward to coming back!

Kiroro is one of my favorite sushi spots in the bay, and conveniently walking distance from my partner's apartment! When I want decent sushi, this is my go-to. Ingredients always taste fresh, and the restaurant is bright and comfortable. I like the platters they serve the sushi on. All staff I've interacted with have been kind. Not a ton to say, just a solid sushi spot you should check out sometime!

6/20/25 Zach and I were in the mood for sushi for dinner and we decided to try out a new spot. Kiroro Sushi is located in Belmont. For parking, there is a small parking lot in a plaza that is near the Safeway. We got there at 5:15pm and since we were one of the first customers that day we didn't have to wait. It's a small restaurant but during the dinner hour the space filled up quick . Here's what we ordered: - california roll - spider roll - mulan roll - spicy rainbow roll - firecracker roll Everything came out quickly. All of the rolls tasted delicious. The staff there are very friendly. They were also very on top of keeping our water cups filled. Even though it's a small restaurant, the menu is pretty expansive with a variety of rolls to choose from. Would definitely come back.

Got the Kiroro Special - worth the money. There of us shared this along with a chicken karage dish and a salad and we came out stuffed. Service was attentive. No wonder this place is popular.

Super Sugoi Box
Daniel H.

Came here recently and had a really solid experience. Made a reservation via Yelp and they had an active Yelp waitlist tablet inside as well. Was seated pretty promptly. Ordered the Super Sugoi Box and fresh oysters and both were great. The Super Sugoi Box definitely stood out, especially the uni + ikura cup. The scallops cup was also super tasty and probably my favorite bite. Service was quick and efficient, and even though it was busy and packed, they kept our water topped up the whole time which I really appreciated. Restrooms were clean too. Overall, really enjoyable spot and I'd come back.

Spider roll with nothing inside, fishy tasting soft shell crab and just cucumber.

Extremely poor quality sushi that is over priced. Sushi is so much better in San Mateo. Just drive to 25th Avenue or downtown San Mateo. Or go south to San Carlos. It's also not very hygienic, we were so worried after eating fish that isn''t fresh.

What an amazing place! Came here to eat on a quiet Tuesday night with my wife and was seated immediately after a warm greeting from the staff. The space itself has a warm and welcoming vibe filled with chatter of other people eating but not so overbearing that you can't hear your own conversation. We ordered the fish tacos, GTR roll, Belmont Roll and started with edamame. I was surprised at how quickly things came out. I'd say the tacos came out in less than five minutes and the everything else within the next five. Each roll was delicious in its own way. The staff always made sure our tea was full and swapped out plates when they were dirty. There's plenty of parking and frozen yogurt next door. This might be my new favorite Japanese restaurant in the area. Can't wait to come back.

Today I was able to meet my friend here for lunch and since it was a weekday we got a table right away at noon. To our pleasant surprise there was a lunch special offered at the back of the menu. For $17 you can a item from column A then B. I went with teriyaki beef (+1) and gyoza. The lunch special came with rice, tea and miso soup. I order the yuzu drink too. Everything was so yummy! The decor is cute with many lucky cats near the entrance and around the sushi bar. Near the back there is a huge display kawaii, anime and robotech figures. I can see kids enjoying looking at them. Looks like they have a private room option that is narrow and long with many 2 seater table side by side, maybe they open it up when they get busy. They have a parking lot that can exit through the back is what my friend told me but I found street which has a 2 hour limit. I saw a car with a parking ticket so I'm guessing they do enforce it. The bento box comes with rice, salad, and miso soup. Everything was good. The sushi was fresh and tender, and they gave me cooked shrimp, salmon, and 3 that I couldn't identify. The salad was good, too, with a creamy dressing that maybe had some sesame paste in it. The amount of dressing was about right, maybe just a touch more than ideal for me, but they were pretty light-handed with it overall. The miso soup and avocado maki were good. The avocado maki had more avocado in proportion to rice than other places, so that was nice. 3. Mochi ice cream, strawberry. This was pretty good. About average, I guess. 4. Yuzu cheesecake. Nice citrus flavor. I know Japanese cheesecakes are airier/lighter than American cheesecakes, but I thought they are usually a bit more creamy than this one. This one was more like a regular cake. It was good, though. Overall a good, casual place I'd be glad to return to for Japanese food. Service was good, although there were only two servers while we were there, and so sometimes it could be a bit slow. There were two TV screen showing sports. There is a small parking lot, or you can park on a nearby street.

Everything we ordered was absolutely scrumptious and worth the price. Our favorites were the Crunchy Lobster Roll, packed with lobster salad, salmon, avocado & cucumber, tobiko, and topped with crunchy flakes and house sauce (a fresh roll) and the Wagyu & Sea Roll, which combined shrimp tempura, cream cheese, avocado, and seared Kobe beef (a cooked roll)! Super rich and satisfying!! The Scallop Butter Yaki was also delicious, with very tender and naturally sweet scallops and seared mushrooms in house-made butter sauce. We also ordered Oyster Shooter, a good combination of oyster, ikura, quail egg, ponzu sauce, and sake. Shot was not too strong but very well combined! The highlight of our meal was definitely Beef Tongue Skewer (a daily special). We're very impressed, as the skewer was incredibly tender, fresh, and melted in our mouths. We paired everything with a Sho Chiku Bai Nigori sake, which is soooo warm and comforting, complemented our meal nicely. Service was very quick, and the staff was very attentive throughout our visit. When you have an earlier dinner (like I did this time around; 5:30pm), the service is great with the food coming out in a timely manner. I've come during prime dinner time (7pm) and the wait can be long given how small the restaurant is. And a few times we'd put our order in and it would take a good 20-30 minutes to get anything. Even when we ordered a beer and all they have to do was go to the refrigerator, open the bottle and serve it to us, it wouldn't be done until we ask about it again. A lot of folks call in to reserve tables too so if you know you want to go there, call for a reservation to avoid the wait. We really recommend checking out their off menu items (they will hand you a hand-written note when you get there) because the chef is just clearly so talented. It wasn't fishy or difficult to eat at all, but incredibly rich and creamy. I'm obsessed!!! * Otoro (off menu): This was the star. The tuna belly was pure umami, super fatty, buttery, and literally melted the second it hit my tongue - really recommend ordering this one * Lobster Roll (off menu): As a girl who's on calories deficit, my body screams for help when I found out it had shrimp tempura (I tried to avoid fried food), but this roll was so damnnnnn savory! It's made of lobster, shrimp tempura and a combo of eel sauce, spicy mayo, and tobiko - no need anymore dipping sauce cause they were just phenomenal * Kaisen: This was a refreshing roll - made of tuna, salmon, hamachi (yellowtail), and white tuna. Shiso (perilla) really enhanced the flavor of the fish and brought fresh taste that I think is the best pairing for any sushi/sashimi dish * Woodside Roll: This was the only miss for us.
